John P. Garvey Jr., 78, of Sebastian, Fla., died Wednesday. Born in Syracuse, he lived in Syracuse more than 20 years before moving to Florida. He retired after 15 years with the Florida Turnpike Authority and previously was deputy director at the Veteran's Administration, Syracuse, for 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Sebastian Church and a member of the American Legion in Syracuse and Pompano Beach, Fla. She had worked for the family of Dr. Edward Cummins as a caregiver and housekeeper. She was a member of United Community Church. Survivors: Four sisters, Leola Grant of Cortland, Jane Glazier of Binghamton, Lucy Sexton of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Viola Shutts of Lake Como; a brother, Roger Glazier of Cortland. Clifford Roy Kent, 81, of Matthews, N.C., died Wednesday. Born in Syracuse, he lived in Syracuse 76 years before moving to Matthews. He retired as a supervisor from Kilian Manufacturing Corp. He was a volunteer at Crouse Hospital for 14 years and at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews, for four years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 61 years, Rose E.; three daughters, Eleanor Supernault of Charlotte, N.C., Judy Kent Chapman of Winters, Calif.; and Deborah Kent of Dixon, Calif.; a son, Cliff Jr. of Winters, Calif.; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.
