Sydney W. Gott

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Sydney W. Gott, 86, of Alliance, Ohio, and formerly of Harpursville, N.Y., went quietly home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2003, at 3:10 a.m., after an extended illness at Altercare Nursing Home in Alliance, Ohio.

He was born on June 7, 1916, in Veteran, Alberta, Canada, and was the son of William and Mary (Reid) Gott.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris (Bates) Gott; five children who survive their father, Shelda and Richard G. Cobb of Limaville, Ohio, Sally and Ferdinand F. Schambach of Sommersville, Conn., Sydney F. and Chryl Gott of Mooresville, N.C., Sharla and Ronald L. Tuttle of Coventry, Conn., Sela and Steve R. Saunders of Stafford Springs, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren from all over the USA who he loved dearly; two sisters and brothers-in-law, May and Thomas Denton of Roswell, N.M., and Alma and Douglas Seymour of Huntsville, Ala.; also several nieces and nephews.

His parents and his 12 siblings predeceased him.

He was a member of the Bolton (Ohio) Methodist Church and former member of the Harpursville United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., before the funeral service.

Funeral services will be held at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home, 69-71 Maple St., Harpursville, on Monday, March 3, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Sandra L. Whelan, pastor of Harpursville United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Pratt Cemetery, Harpursville, in the spring.

Isabel Jesberger

ONEONTA — Isabel Jesberger, 91, died at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, following a brief illness.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 29, 1911.

She was a member of Oneonta Christian Science Church, where she had been a reader and a librarian for their reading room. Isabel taught Sunday school at the church and was also a member of the board of trustees. She belonged to the Eastern Star, Home Bureau and was an active member of the Mount Vision Senior Citizen's Group.

She married Eugene Jelley in 1930, and they resided in Malverne, N.Y. Soon after they were married, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Marjorie Lawrence Jelley. Isabel's husband, Eugene, predeceased her in 1941.

Isabel married George Jesberger, also of Malverne, on Sept. 8, 1945. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Mount Vision, and settled on a farm to raise poultry. Mr. Jesberger died in 1977.

Isabel is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Boyce Rogers of West Oneonta; a granddaughter and her husband, Susan and David Ploutz of Oneonta; a grandson, Robert Rogers and a granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Sorensen. Also surviving Isabel are the great-grandchildren she loved so dearly, Nicholas Woodcock, Austin Rogers, Kaitlyn Hutzel, Ian Rogers and Caleb Rogers.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The family will have visiting hours on Sunday, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Monday, March 3, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home with the Rev. Edward Carlson officiating.

Burial will be later in Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta.

Ernest W. Goodrich

WALTON — Ernest W. Goodrich, age 90, of Walton, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in the New York State Veterans Home Oxford, after a long illness.

Mr. Goodrich was born in Beerston, N.Y., the son of the late Edwin and Nellie Goodrich.

Mr. Goodrich married Emma Feltman on Sept. 28, 1940, at the First Baptist Church, Walton.

He was an assembler, employed by S. J. Bailey's Furniture, Walton, for many years. He was a man devoted to his family, who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Goodrich; one daughter, Pamela and John Westbrook of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; one son, Charles and Gale Goodrich of Walton; six grandchildren, Michel and Warren Finch of California, Denise MacDonald of Downsville, Derek Flores of Ogden, Utah, Charles Goodrich Jr., of Delhi, N.Y., and Christopher Goodrich of Walton, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Will Goodrich, Bruce Goodrich, Maurice Goodrich, and Sturgis Goodrich, and one sister, Crystal Graby.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 3, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 55 Townsend St., Walton.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, in the spring.

Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Walton or the Walton Emergency Squad. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

Elizabeth Zabriskie

WALTON — Elizabeth Zabriskie, 79, formerly of Walton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in LaFayette, N.J., after a long illness.

Mrs. Zabriskie was born in Sparta, N.J., the daughter of the late Jacob and Elsie Robbins Bedell.

She was a homemaker her entire adult life and considered taking care of her family her most important job. She enjoyed crocheting and made many wonderful things for people.

She married John B. Zabriskie on June 14, 1941, in Butler, N.J. He died July 5, 1990.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol Kolakowski of Franklin, N.J., Geneva Mann of Ringwood, N.J., and Georgianna Zabriskie of Franklin, N.J.; one son, John Zabriskie of Walton, N.Y.; one brother, Herb Bedell of Masonville; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Vera Shilling; a sister Violet Bedell; and a brother, Howard Bedell.

Friends may call Saturday, March 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where funeral services will be held Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carl M. Butler, pastor of the Pines Brook Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions in Elizabeth's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Pines Brook Baptist Church, or a charity of one's choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Christine Frondelli

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Christine Eriksen Frondelli, 49, of Santa Monica, Calif., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at her residence.

Christine was born on Nov. 17, 1953, in Columbia, S.C., the daughter of Kay J. and Rose M. (Fox) Eriksen.

As a child, she traveled with her parents overseas with her father's military assignments from 1956 to 1960. Upon returning to the States, they settled in Albany. She graduated from high school there and went to London for a year, and later to New York City, where she worked as a waitress in various restaurants, along with attending acting classes in the evening.

In 1991, she married Michael Frondelli from New York City and they moved to California, as he was with Capitol Records in Hollywood, and very much involved with music.

They enjoyed a great life in Hollywood, where she met many celebrities as they attended all the "Grammy" and "Oscar" award dinners and shows.

She did a few television bit parts and was on one of Jerry Seinfeld episodes.

Christine is survived by her husband, Michael; her mother, Rose Eriksen of Oneonta; three aunts and an uncle, Margaret Fox and Louise Grant, both of Oneonta, Mary All of East Meredith, and Joseph Fox of Oneonta; as well as several cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

The immediate family will meet privately at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, and proceed to St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor.

Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

The family would appreciate Mass intentions, or memorial gifts to St. Mary's Church, in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Alfred N. Winnie

CHAUMONT — Alfred N. Winnie, 76, of Hart Road, Chaumont, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 28, 2003, at his home. He had been ill with cancer.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Oneonta, the son of Nelson and Laura Wayman Winnie.

He graduated from Worcester Central School and attended Russell Sage School of Business for accounting.

He worked for a time with the railroad. He worked with G.S. Van Wormer Oil Co. of Albany.

He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950 until 1952. He came home and served in the Army National Guard and then served 28 years with the Army Reserve.

He became an accountant for Mobil Oil Co., working in Albany and Rochester.

He married Kay A. Makely on Sept. 24, 1955, in Worcester. The couple lived in Albany and Spencerport until retiring in 1985, when they moved to Chaumont.

He was a member of Chaumont Lodge F.&A.M. No. 172 where he served as master in 2002. He was also a member of Jeff-Lewis Square Club, Black River Auto Club, Antique Auto Club of America, Oneonta American Legion and VFW, and a lifetime member of NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; two daughters, Mrs. Ken (Linda) L. Towne of Chaumont and Mrs. Richard (Donna) L. Nelson of Rochester; one son, Dr. Ronald and Michelle Winnie of Saratoga; seven grandchildren; sister, Marion Herzog of Cobleskill; and three nieces.

A Masonic memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.

There are no calling hours. He will be cremated.

Donations may be made to Chaumont Lodge No. 172, care of Roswell Gotham, P.O. Box 11, Chaumont, NY 13622 or the American Cancer Society.

Earl 'Jake' Beers

WALTON — Earl "Jake" Beers Jr., 38, of Walton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born May 26, 1964, the son of Earl L. and Linda (Simpson) Beers Sr., in Cooperstown.

He was a 1982 graduate of Walton Central School. He was employed by Clune Lumber Corp. of Otego, as a lumber handler.

Jake was a lifelong resident of Walton. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting, fishing and nature in general. He also loved music and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Jake is survived by his loving parents, Earl and Linda Beers, of Clayton, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Geraldine Beers of Walton; two sisters and three brothers, Billie Jo Simpson and Keith Schermerhorn of Walton, Cassandra Beers and Mark Jones of Morris, Everett and Melissa Beers of East Bend, N.C., Leon Beers of Clayton, N.C., and Michael Beers of Clayton, N.C. Also surviving is his girlfriend, Sherry Finch of Walton, and her children, Daniel Scutt, Brandon Scutt, Ethan Scutt and Wendy Arnold; also, his very special niece and nephews, Brandi Mae Ford of Clayton, N.C., Jason Simpson of Walton, George Klinger of Walton, Fred Ford of Walton; his great-niece, Serena Simpson; and great-nephew, Dakota Cower.

His maternal grandmother, Rebecca Layton; and his maternal grandfather, Leon Simpson; and his paternal grandfather, William Beers, predeceased him.

There will be no calling hours.

A service to celebrate the life of Earl "Jake" Beers Jr., will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Christ Episcopal Church, 41 Gardiner Place, Walton, with the Rev. Suzanne Cole officiating.

Arrangements are by Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Chapel, 102 Delaware St., Walton.

John Henry Barry

STAMFORD — John Henry Barry, 84, of Benjamin Road, Stamford, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003.

He was born June 15, 1918, at home in Grand Gorge, the son of Arthur J. and Rose (Jump) Barry.

He married Marjorie Mattice on Sept. 8, 1940, in the Grand Gorge Parsonage, Grand Gorge.

Employment included set-up machine operation for General Motors. He, however, was a full-time family man. "He will be sorely missed by his wife and family and All who knew and Loved Him."

Mr. Barry is survived by his loving wife, Marge, of 62 1/2 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ed Madore, Benjamin Road, Stamford; sons, Gary and his wife, Judy, of Thomaston, Conn., Steve and his wife, Geraldine, of Torrington, Conn., Ron L. and his wife, Wilma, Barry of Manorkill; and several grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are six sisters, Virginia Dunn, Catherine Mazurick, Judy Mihalek, Alice Beane, Ola DiMaro and Edna Mailhot; and a brother, Ralph Barry, all of Connecticut.

He was predeceased by a son and grandson.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at noon at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Rev. Van Louie, of Calvary Church in Jefferson, officiating. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in the spring in Grand Gorge.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Stamford Emergency Squad, Stamford.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Frank P. Olivieri

WALTON — Frank P. Olivieri, 86, of Walton, passed away peacefully with his wife, Janet, by his side on Sunday morning, March 2, 2003, at home, after a long illness.

Frank was born in Brooklyn, the son of the late Masjimino and Tresina Olivieri.

On May 20, 1989, he married the former Janet Pugnier.

He was a mechanic for many years, employed by Varsity Bus Company, Queens.

He was a former member of the Walton Fire Department and the Fast Brook Hunting Club.

Frank loved animals, having owned a pet shop when he lived on Long Island, and had a particular love of raising pigeons. He spent his free time taking care of his pigeons, woodworking and working around his home.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Pugnier; two daughters, Teresa Boucher of Hampton Bays, and Annie Olivieri of Arizona; one son, Frank P. Olivieri Jr., of Smithtown; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael Olivieri.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 4, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where a Mass will be celebrated at the funeral home Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Walton, officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, on Long Island.

Memorial contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

John R. Foland

LIVERPOOL — John R. Foland, 60, of Liverpool, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.

Born in Oneonta, John received a bachelor's degree in engineering and his master's in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He was employed for more than 30 years by the New York State Thruway Authority and was the Syracuse Division director.

He was actively involved in youth sports, enjoyed coaching soccer, as well as volunteering in the community. He was an avid lover of nature, enjoyed learning about the environment around us and traveling with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, including his wife, Ann, of 19 years; his children, Debbie Foland Donahue, David Foland and Colin Donahue; three grandchildren, Ashley, Michael and Ryan; his parents, Max and Odette Foland; his brothers, Robert and Gregory Foland; his sister, Maxine Seamans; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday, March 3, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool, followed by a celebration of his life at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, P.O. Box 236, 291 State Highway Route 6, South Wellfleet, MA. 02663.

William W. Weaver

MARGARETVILLE — William W. Weaver, 48, of Margaretville, died suddenly Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville.

William was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Margaretville, the son of Bruce and Ellen Johnson Weaver. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Andes Central School in 1972.

William worked as a carpenter in Margaretville. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his son, Eric, of Aulander, N.C.; two daughters, Allyson Meyers and Laura Weaver, both of Edneyville, N.C.; mother, Ellen Weaver, of Andes; brothers, Michael Weaver of Delhi and Patrick Weaver of Andes; two grandchildren, Emily Meyers and Matthew Weaver; an aunt, Viola Weaver of Delhi; and other aunts; and several nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes on Monday, when the family will be in attendance from 5 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Margaretville, with the Rev. William A. Gorman, pastor, as the celebrant.

Burial will be in Andes at a later date.

Memorials to the Margaretville Emergency Squad in the name of William W. Weaver are appreciated.
