Barbara A. Basilio

ONEONTA — Barbara A. Basilio, 68, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at home.

Barbara was born Nov. 30, 1934, in Utica, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Masercola.

She married Fred F. Basilio on July 14, 1956.

She was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Oneonta Country Club, the Women's Golf Association, and was a past volunteer at Family Services in Oneonta. She was an avid golfer and downhill skier.

She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was also a caring and devoted friend to many. The love and happiness she gave her family and friends will never be lost. She was deeply loved by her two granddaughters.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred F. Basilio; her mother, Margaret Masercola of Oneonta; two daughters and their spouses, Bonnie and Steven Havens of Oneonta, and Lauren and Jeffery Knapp of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and son, John Basilio of Sarasota, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie Havens; and her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and James Doellefeld of Albany. She is also survived by several loving relatives in the Basilio family.

Calling hours will be private.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Rather than flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Dorothy J. Kehoe

ONEONTA — Dorothy J. Kehoe, 90, a longtime resident of Oneonta until 1994, passed away at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill, on Saturday, March 29, 2003.

Mrs. Kehoe was born on Sept. 14, 1912, in the Stapleton area of Staten Island, one of six children of Thomas and Ellin Gorman Lynch. She was predeceased by her five siblings, James Lynch, Gladys Lynch, Mary Hood, Gertrude Sheilds and Elinor Murphy.

Mrs. Kehoe spent her early life in Staten Island, graduating from Curtis High School and then working at the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.

She married Joseph F. Kehoe, also of Staten Island, on Jan. 22, 1947. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Oneonta area, which became their home. Mr. Kehoe died on Jan. 25, 1978.

She is survived by three children, Hubert Stevenson of Oneonta, Joseph F. Kehoe of Oneonta and Jeanne Kehoe of Mt. Kisco. In addition to her children; she is survived by 11 grandchildren, and their children.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Stevenson.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Oneonta until leaving the area to live with her daughter.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

D. Angelia Rezen

MIDDLEFIELD — Mrs. D. Angelia Rezen, 87, of Middlefield, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare.

She was born in Mt. Clair, Neb., on June 6, 1915, a daughter of Giles and Delia (Brinkerhoff) Knapp.

Angelia graduated from Schenevus High School.

She married her loving husband, Victor Rezen, on Jan. 27, 1939. He predeceased her on Nov. 13, 2000. Together they operated their dairy farm for many years.

Angelia was a member of the Women's Republican Committee for many years; the Middlefield Community Club; Middlefield Methodist Church; a 4-H leader; and a longtime member of the Middlefield Election Board.

Besides working alongside her husband on the dairy farm, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was a school bus driver. She was a much loved "surrogate" mom to many of her daughter's friends and acquaintances. She was also a noted cake maker for many special events throughout the county.

Angelia is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan Rezen and her husband, Chris Debow, of Holden, Mass., and Nancy and Harold Erway of Middlefield; three grandchildren, Patti Erway, Eric Erway and his wife, Christine, and Victor and Janet Erway; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including Dolores Coleman of Cooperstown and Betsey Snyder of Latham; two sisters-in-law, Ida Lee of Cooperstown and Evelyn Spence of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, Paul Raymond Rezen of Hartwick.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ron Fralick, pastor of the Middlefield Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be later at the Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Middlefield Volunteer Emergency Squad, 208 County Highway No. 43, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155; attention: Douglas Roberts.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Harriet K. Wedge

ONEONTA — Mrs. Harriet K. Wedge, 101, formerly of 7 Woodside Ave., Oneonta, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 28, 1902, in Norwich, the daughter of Jay R. and Altheria (White) Keator.

She married Harold H. Wedge on June 5, 1926, in Deposit. After their marriage, Harriet and Harold bought their home at 7 Woodside Ave., Oneonta. Mr. Wedge predeceased her on Aug. 24, 1985.

Harriet attended and graduated from Norwich High School in the Class of 1922. She also graduated from Central City Business School in Syracuse in the Class of 1923. For a time, she worked with Crane Silo Co. in Norwich.

Harriet was very active with the Girl Scouts of Oneonta for 10 years, from 1938 to 1948. From 1956 to 1962, she served on the Otsego County Executive Committee of the Cooperative Extension service as well as the local unit.

She was a member of the Martha Chapter of Order of Eastern Star of Oneonta; the Oneonta Camping Club; the National Fan Club of USA; the Good Sam Recreational Trailer Club; the Oneonta Unit of the AARP; the Oneonta Senior Citizens; the Holiday Bowling Senior Citizens; as well as a member of the D.A.R. of Oneonta Chapter.

Harriet enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV. They were fortunate enough to have traveled all the way to Alaska.

In 1986, she became a member of the Emmons United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Lynn and Shelly Keator of Cazenovia.

Harriet was predeceased by her brother, Lynn Keator, who died in 1964.

Funeral and committal services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Rodney Johnson, pastor of the Emmons United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta.

Nancy M. Murphy

MORRIS — Nancy Murphy Murphy, 68, of Morris, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at her home.

She was born April 18, 1934, in Gilbertsville, the daughter of Arthur and Marjorie Douglas Murphy. She was a graduate of Gilbertsville Central School.

She married William Murphy on Aug. 22, 1954, in Gilbertsville.

Nancy was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, William: her children and their spouses, William Murphy and wife, Barbara, of South New Berlin; Jack Murphy and wife, Diane, of Mt. Home, Idaho; Dennis Murphy of Mount Upton; Roger Murphy and his wife, Marilyn, of Udall, Kan.; Patricia (Patti) Howland and husband, Ray, of Morris; her grandchildren include, Kevin and Keith Murphy of South New Berlin, Kraig Murphy of the U.S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas, Laura Murphy of Derby, Kan., Becky Murphy-Henderson, Winfield, Kan., Andy, Tina and Scott Murphy, all of Udall, Kan., Benjamin and Sarah Murphy of Mt. Home, Idaho, Benjamin Howland of the U.S. Army, Fort Drum, Alexander and Logan Howland of Morris.

She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Douglas Murphy and wife, Marion, of Oneonta, Lucy Upham and husband, Walt, of Westmoreland, Thomas Murphy of Sidney, Marvin Murphy of Brooksville, Fla., Kathy Schober and husband, Walter, of Hillsdale.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Funeral services will be private at a later time with the Rev. Ann Blair, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Morris, officiating. Burial and committal services will be at a later date in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Morris Emergency Squad in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Theda Carr

ONEONTA — Mrs. Theda Carr, 82, of Oneonta, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, Stamford.

She was born April 2, 1920, in Oneonta, the daughter of Earl and Edna (Oles) Torrey.

She married Norman F. Carr Sr., on June 30, 1938, at Goodyear Lake. Mr. Carr predeceased her on March 22, 1999.

Theda enjoyed making and decorating cakes as well as gardening.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Evelyn and Philip Ericson of Maryland; a daughter in law, Norma Carr of Oneonta; a granddaughter and her husband, Colleen and Nicholas Aufmuth of Fly Creek; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kara Aufmuth of Fly Creek; and a sister in law, Luella Torrey of Norwich; also several nieces and nephews.

Her son, Norman F. Carr Jr.; her sister, Dortha Cook; and two brothers, Ernest and Herbert Torrey predeceased Theda.

There will be no calling hours.

Graveside services for Mrs. Carr and her husband, Norman Carr Sr., will be held at a later date in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Norman F. Carr Jr. Scholarship Fund, care of Duncan Davie, town of Oneonta, West Oneonta, N.Y. 13861, in loving memory of Theda Carr.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta.

George Solovitch

CLAYTON — George Solovitch Jr., 56, of Lyellton Drive, Clayton, passed away March 29, 2003, in the evening at the Samaritan Medical Center Emergency Room, Watertown.

He was born March 9, 1947, in Oneonta, the son of George and Frances L. Lawler Solovitch.

He attended Oneonta public schools, graduated from the Oneonta High School and the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, with a bachelor of arts degree in business.

He was a member of the Oneonta Elks Club and the Oneonta Country Club.

He lived in Syracuse and then West Monroe.

George married Janet I. Mallory on Aug. 31, 1985, in the Grenell Island Chapel, Clayton, where they moved in March 2001 and they resided there until now.

He was the district manager for the Combined Life Insurance Co.

He was an avid trout fisherman, deer and bird hunter, and a golfer.

George is survived by his wife, Janet I. Solovitch, Clayton; his parents, George and Frances L. Solovitch, Oneonta; stepson, Gilbert L. Steele and his wife, Susan Zippel, Syracuse; stepdaughter, Irene S. Steele, West Monroe; and four stepgrandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Cummings Funeral Home, 320 John St., Clayton. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, with Fr. Christopher C. Carrara officiating, at the funeral h.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y. 13220.

Wilber O. Heath

SIDNEY — Wilber O. Heath, 87, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Feb. 13, 1916, son of the late Olin and Edith Mae Heath in the town of Franklin.

Wilber married Esther Townsend in May 1950, in Mount Upton.

He was employed as an assembler at E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney; he retired in February of 1981.

Wilber was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Heath, Sidney; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Heath, Bainbridge, and David and Kathy Heath, Sidney; three brothers and sister-in-law, Frederick and Marilyn Heath, Sidney, James Heath, Winslow, Ariz., and Daniel Heath, Oneonta; three sisters, Christine Camp, Garden City, S.C., Florence Coon, Oxford, and Beatrice Allen, Rome; four grandchildren, Amber, Alicia, Shanalin and Darien Heath; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Richard; and a sister, Esther Birdsall.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the chapel, with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the Untied Methodist Church of Sidney, officiating.

Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Upton.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the United Methodist Church of Sidney, Liberty Street, Sidney.
