ONEONTA — Clarence "Ace" Robst, 78, who died March 29, 2003, is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Marsh of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Helen Greiner of Franklin; a brother, Bernard and his wife, Inez, of South Carolina; a niece, Joyce Sherwood of Binghamton, and several other nieces and nephews. A sister, Elsie Adele, predeceased him.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Herbert VanBrink

COOPERSTOWN — Committal and military services for Herbert "Tim" VanBrink, 82, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Beatrice Pizza

ONEONTA — Graveside committal services for Beatrice (Bea) Pizza, 77, who died Feb. 2, 2003, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Harlan E. Hine

REDFIELD — Graveside committal services for Harlan E. Hine of Redfield, who died March 25, 2003, in Oswego, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Cook Cemetery, West Oneonta, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Edna Waro

COOPERSTOWN — Burial and committal services for Edna Waro, who died Dec. 18, 2002, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Westville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Louise E. Rubberdt

ONEONTA — Graveside committal services for Louise E. Rubberdt, who died Jan. 16, 2003, at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, Stamford, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Edna M. Small

EAST SPRINGFIELD — Ms. Edna Small, 88, passed away Friday, May 9, 2003, at her home.

She was born July 6, 1914, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Warren Herbert and Emma Marie (Pauley) Small.

A lifelong area resident, she graduated from East Springfield High School in 1931, and Hartwick College in 1935 with a bachelor's degree.

She worked for Dingman's Supply, Cherry Valley, for several years, and at the Bassett Hospital admissions office from 1952 until retiring in 1979.

Edna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, East Springfield, since 1928, the Otsego Chapter of the DAR since 1938, Springfield Grange No. 1523 since 1933, Pomona, State and National Grange, Roseboom Area Senior Citizens and Cooperstown Christian Women's Club.

She was a volunteer at Bassett Healthcare for 10 years, for several years she delivered "meals on wheels" and she volunteered at the General Clinton Library in East Springfield.

Survivors include two cousins, Ruth Posselt of New Jersey and Edward Hawley of Albany; and other second cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in the First Presbyterian Church, East Springfield, with the Rev. Susan Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Contributions in Ms. Small's memory may be made to the Central Association for the Blind, 507 Kent St., Utica, N.Y. 13501.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Helen E. Quinlan

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Helen E. Quinlan, 86, of Flint Ridge Drive, Colorado Springs, Colo., died Friday morning, May 9, 2003, at Mount St. Francis Nursing Home, Colorado Springs.

Her first husband, Fred Quinlan, died in 1965, her second husband, Robert Quinlan, died in 1994.

Born in Dundaff, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Glenn H. and Luella Wagner Wall.

She was a graduate of Carbondale High School. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

In past years, she was active in the First Congregational Church, River Edge, N.J., and the Methodist Church in Schenevus, N.Y. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Chapter R. in Teaneck, N.J.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by a son, Andrew, and his wife, Linda, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a grandson, Jonathon.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in the Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart, Pa.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity or the American Cancer Society.

Marion N. Howes

SIDNEY — Marion Nancy O'Dell Howes, a resident of Sharon's Adult Home in Sidney, passed away at The Hospital in Sidney on Friday, May 9, 2003.

She was born in Walton on March 18, 1928, to Ada Northrup O'Dell and Wilburt O'Dell, the youngest of seven children.

She is survived by her son, John, of Deposit; and a brother, William R. O'Dell Sr. of Walton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Marion Howes; and five sisters and brothers.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be at the Walton Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, with the Rev. Robert Pope officiating.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Delaware County ARC in the memory of Marion Nancy Howes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Home, Sidney.

Bertha F. Mahardy

ILION — Bertha F. Mahardy, 82, of Ilion, formerly of Mohawk, and widow of Mark W. Mahardy, died on Saturday, May 10, 2003.

A son, William, and his wife, Alice, Mahardy of Richfield Springs; and a daughter, Elaine, and her husband, Eugene, Emrich of Ilion; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs.

Memorial donations may be made to Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica.

STAMFORD — Memorial services for Clayton Sparkes, who passed away on May 8, 2003, will be held at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Elliot Oakes officiating.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Lester Brigham Jr.

ONEONTA — A committal service and burial, with full military honors, for Lester Albert Brigham Jr., 63, who died Dec. 24, 2002, will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2003, in Hartwick Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Klosheim, pastor of the Community Bible Chapel in Toddsville, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Wesley R. Page

SOUTH TRENTON — Committal and military services for Wesley Richard Page, 35, of South Trenton, formerly of Cherry Valley, who died suddenly on April 5, 2003, as the result of a motor vehicle accident, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating. Burial will follow.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

William P. Stevens

TROY — William P. Stevens of the Beechwood Retirement Community, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

Born in Norwich, on Sept. 28, 1914, he was the son of the late William H. and Pearl Parsons Stevens, and the beloved husband of Marjorie Wendler Stevens, to whom he was married on April 9, 1944, and celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Mr. Stevens graduated from Norwich High School in 1932, attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, Class of 1938, with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Stevens was very proud of his RPI heritage and was most proud of his son, Robert, his daughter, Sue, and his grandchildren, Mark and Ann Larsen graduating from RPI, making them a three-generation legacy family.

He was very active in RPI until his death, and was awarded the RPI Alumni Key, was the Class of 1938 Correspondent and was the founder of the Retirees Group of the Hudson Mohawk Chapter of the RPI Alumni Association.

Mr. Stevens was employed by the Bendix Corporation for 39 years from 1939 to 1978. He was employed in the Electrical Components Division in Sidney, as a research electrical engineer and was the Director of Engineering and Quality Control at Dage Subdivision of Bendix in Franklin, Ind. Mr. Stevens held two patents.

In 1978, he retired to Castleton-on-Hudson until 1999, when he moved to the Beechwood Community in Troy.

Mr. Stevens was a member of the Otschodela Council, Boy Scouts of America in Oneonta. He was a member of the Executive Board, was the Council Training Chairman, was the District and Neighborhood Commissioner, was the Silver Beaver Recipient and was on the Council Long Range Planning Committee. He helped establish the council trust fund in the 1950s, which today largely funds the council.

Mr. Stevens was very active in the Episcopal Church. He was a warden of the vestry, the vestry at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sidney, was a warden of the vestry, the vestry and the church historian at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Albany, and the vestry at the Episcopal Church in Franklin, Ind.

Mr. Stevens had many hobbies, including genealogy, home repairs, vegetable gardening (specializing in onions), and had built homes in Sidney and Castleton and a family cabin at Hadlock Lake in W. Fort Anne. He had also cataloged three genealogies in the New York State Library in Albany.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stevens, is survived by his three children, W. Frederick Stevens of Guilford, Robert M. Stevens and his wife, Carolyn, of Littleton, Mass., and their children, Lawrence and Stephanie Stevens, and Sue and Robert Larsen of Averill Park and their children, Mark and Ann Larsen; his brothers and sister, Harvey Stevens of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Orrie P. Stevens and his wife, Ann, of Wyndmor, Pa., and Carolyn Stevens Carter of Stewart Manor; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Heaman Stevens.

Calling hours will be at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon.

His funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 107 State St., Albany. Burial will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 107 State St., Albany, NY 12207 in memory William P. Stevens.

Virginia S. Bateman

COOPERSTOWN — Committal and burial services for Virginia S. Bateman, who died Jan. 9, 2003, will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Carrie E. Moore

LAURENS — Graveside committal services for Carrie E. Moore, who died Nov. 18, 2002, at her residence, will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Clara C. Roe

EAST WORCESTER — Friends are invited to join the family of Clara C. Roe, 78, who died April 25, 2003, for a graveside memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, with the Rev. John Mills officiating.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Benjamin T. Shaw

SIDNEY — Graveside services for Benjamin T. Shaw, who passed away Jan. 10, 2003, will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Woodland Cemetery in Delhi, at 11 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Barbara Renaud Nelson

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Barbara Renaud Bobbie Nelson of 414 Buccaneer Road, Wilmington, N.C., died Friday, March 7, 2003, at New Hanover Hospital, Wilmington.

She was born May 13, 1919, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Armour L. and Elsie Renaud.

Bobbie received a B.A. degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., and a M.S. from Queens College.

She was a full-time homebound teacher for the Sewanhaka Central High School District (L.I.) and taught Social Studies and English at Floral Park Memorial Jr./Sr. High School for several years before retiring and moving to Wilmington in 1976.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, George E. Nelson; daughter, Joan Nelson Francis of Wilmington, N.C.; and son, Richard Jay Nelson and wife, Susan Bonacci Nelson, of Williamsburg, Va. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Michelle Francis Konyen (Ed) of Toronto, Canada, Clinton "Todd" Francis of Arlington, Va., Erika Nelson Francis (Mark) of Winchester, Va., and Jay Douglas Nelson of Richmond, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Tyson Reese Francis and Elizabeth Morgen Konyen; her brother, William (Bill) Peterson of Lake Placid, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Marguerite Renaud Knight; and stepmother, Ruth Peterson Renaud.

Funeral services were held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Wilmington, on March 10, 2003.

Internment will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Nelson family plot, Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, N.Y.

The family offers their appreciation for the love and compassion expressed to them during their time of bereavement.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Thelma M. Domion

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Thelma M. Domion, 81, of Domion Road, passed away on Sunday evening, May 11, 2003, in Folts Homes Inc., Herkimer.

She was born on June 4, 1921, in Milford, a daughter of the late Seth and Jennie (Tompkins) Martindale. Raised and educated in Milford, she graduated high school in 1942.

On June 26, 1958, she married Victor Willard Domion in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. They shared a devoted union of 40 years until his passing on April 23, 1998. For many years she and her husband worked a dairy farm, retiring in 1985.

For a short time she did crocheting work for Greenleaf Goods in Meredith. From 1987 until 1994 she worked at the Pennysaver in Richfield Springs.

Thelma will be remembered as a loving, caring and hardworking person, with a happy attitude and a love for life. She loved animals, especially cats, dogs and horses. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Joann Domion of Richfield Springs; one brother, Lewis Martindale of Milford; one sister, Dorothy March of Oceanside, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stuart Martindale.

Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. Sister Patricia Woolheater of St. Joseph's Church will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday morning one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

Interment will follow services in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
