ONEONTA — Committal services for Margaret H. Edwards, 74, who passed away on Jan. 31, 2003, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, with the Rev. Tom Babiuch, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Avis B. Pritchard

MASONVILLE — Memorial services for Avis B. Pritchard, who passed away on Feb. 16, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Federated Church of Masonville, with the Rev. Robert Howand officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., 179 Main St., Unadilla.

Sheldon E. Shaw

DELHI — Graveside committal services for Sheldon E. Shaw, 92, a life-long Delhi area resident who passed away on March 7, 2003, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Shaw Family plot in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. The Rev. Jeffrey Staples, Pastor of the Delhi First Baptist Church, will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet and Son, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Wanda DiGiacomo

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — A graveside funeral service for Wanda DiGiacomo of Midlothian, Va., who passed away on Nov. 25, 2002, 91 years old, and was the widow of Salvatore DiGiacomo and mother of Sally Zuck, will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 11 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Dixon Bartle, Rector of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Alicia J. Harris

VANHORNESVILLE — A graveside committal service for Alicia J. Harris, 18, who passed away on Jan. 10, 2003, will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2003, in VanHornesville Cemetery. Sister Patricia Woolheater will officiate.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Grace LaFrance

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — A graveside committal service for Grace LaFrance, 72, who passed away on April 8, 2003, will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Sister Patricia Woolheater will officiate.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Beatrice M. Jackson

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Beatrice M. Jackson, 84, of Cooperstown died Wednesday evening, May 14, 2003, at The Meadows.

Bea was born on Aug. 1, 1918, in the town of Springfield, a daughter of Floyd and Edith (Buchanan) Judson.

On Feb. 7, 1942, she married George A. Jackson in First Baptist Church of Cooperstown. Mr. Jackson died on March 17, 1979.

Raised in Cooperstown, Bea graduated from Cooperstown High School with the Class of 1938, and then came under the employment of Drs. McDonald and Pitcher as a dental assistant.

Following her marriage in 1942, she devoted her life to raising her family and caring for their home. She especially enjoyed tending to her gardens, cooking, and baking great apple pies.

In the mid 1950s, she became employed by Miss Margaret Ross and Miss Edith Morrell at their home on Main Street in Cooperstown, where she managed their household affairs, until retiring in the early 1960s.

Since her husband's death in 1979, Bea made her home on Lake Street in Cooperstown. For the past five years, she had resided at Woodside Hall, until moving to The Meadows this past April.

A longtime devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, Bea served there in many capacities over the years, especially in the area of teaching Sunday School and coordinating the monthly church suppers. She was also a member of the "Double X" Club in Cooperstown, enjoyed playing bingo, and was an avid bowler, at one time bowling on a state championship team. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

Bea is survived by one son, David M. Jackson and his wife, Judith, of Ballston Spa; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret J. Peck and her husband, Joseph, of Schenectady; four grandchildren, Stacey Peck and her fiance, Christian DeLoach, of Albany, Matthew Peck of Schenectady, Kenneth Strait of Bandera, Texas, and Kathy Nichols and her husband, Brian, of Oneonta; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cooperstown, officiating. The committal service and burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Woodside Hall Activities Fund, Attention: Margaret Banks, 1 Main St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

William John Durkin

EDMESTON — William John Durkin, 76, of Edmeston died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, May 14, 2003, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born Aug. 24, 1926, on Staten Island, the son of John and Elizabeth (Whyte) Durkin.

He married Barbara (Carey) Durkin, his wife of 55 years on Sept. 14, 1947. She survives.

Mr. Durkin grew up on Staten Island and was a graduate of New Dorp High School. He later moved to Edmeston, where he has been a resident since 1971.

He was employed as an oil burner serviceman for T.F. Quinlan & Sons of Staten Island for 39 years. Also worked as an elevator adjuster for the Otis Elevator Co.

Mr. Durkin proudly served with the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate during World War II.

He was a member of Senior Citizens groups in New Berlin, Edmeston, New Lisbon and Bridgewater; served as the treasurer for the Edmeston Senior Group; 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus.

He was a member of St. Theresa's of the Infant Jesus Church in New Berlin, and St. Anthony of Padua Church on Staten Island.

Mr. Durkin had a passion for learning and reading and enjoyed working with plants. His family always came first and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Durkin is survived by his children, Barbara J. Durkin, Oneonta, Elaine and Gary Fortin, Wrightstown, N.J., Richard Durkin and Isaura Perez, Napierville, Ill., Arthur Durkin, Staten Island, and Sean and Suzanne Durkin, Staten Island; grandchildren, Christopher J. Fortin, Meaghan Siobhan Durkin Foy, Eric William Durkin, Kevin Patrick Durkin, Brian Francis Durkin and Erin Elizabeth Durkin; a great-grandchild, Sean Cailean Sanders Fortin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, George Durkin.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday evening.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin, with Father Francis Case of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin, officiating.

Interment will be in the Edmeston Union Cemetery, Edmeston.

Anthony Bartiromo

OTEGO — Mr. Anthony "Tony" Bartiromo Sr., 65 years old, of Otego, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown.

He was born Jan. 3, 1938, on Staten Island, the son of Antonio and Angelina Caruso Bartiromo.

Mr. Bartiromo married Patricia Walsh on May 20, 1990, at Oakwood Heights Community Church of Staten Island.

He is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Bartiromo was a ceramic tile setter having his own business on Staten Island.

The Bartiromos have lived in Otego since 1990. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Bartiromo enjoyed living in the country with his wife, Pat and their dog, Rusty. He was very proud of his country and was very patriotic. He was fond of the fellowship at Gus' in Otego.

Mr. Bartiroma is survived by his wife, Patricia Bartiromo, at home; by Patricia's two sisters and their husbands; and her two brothers and spouses and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents.

There will be a Memorial Mass at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, with Father Paul A. Roman, pastor of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church as celebrant.

There will also be a memorial service at the Oakwood Heights Community Church on Staten Island.

At Mr. Bartiromo's request, there will be no public visiting hours.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605.

Fred J. Blasetti

LAS VEGAS — Fred J. Blasetti, 83, formerly of California and Oneonta, N.Y., and most recently of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in Las Vegas.

He was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Berwick, Pa., the son of Serafino and Saveria (Romiti) Blasetti.

Fred served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. When the war ended in Europe, he was reassigned to the Pacific theater of operation from which he was discharged in 1945, as a technical sergeant.

Upon returning from the war he worked in the D&H roundhouse. After working there for a few years, he moved to California, where he was employed by General Motors. After retirement he moved to Las Vegas.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Blasetti) Rubell, her husband, Mike, and their sons, Michael, Jeffrey and David; a daughter, Shirley (Blasetti) Kiefer; a son, Fred J. Blasetti Jr., his wife, Karen, and their children, Rita, and Fred Blasetti III.; a daughter, Kathleen (Blasetti) DeNoia, her husband, Ray, and their sons, Jason and Johnnie.

He is also survived by a sister, Irene Starkweather of Albany; a brother, Carmen Blasetti and his wife, Lois, of Oneonta; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Enrico Blasetti, Anna Primiani, Peter Blasetti and Mary Ferguson.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 19, 2003, at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Brenda L. DeMatteo

SIDNEY — Brenda L. DeMatteo, 53, of Sidney passed away after a courageous battle on Thursday, May 15, 2003, in The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born Aug. 30, 1949, daughter of Victor and Flossi (Fisk) Miller in Sidney.

Brenda graduated from Sidney High School and was employed as Certified Nurses Aid for The Hospital in Sidney and later was a home health aid for the local area prior to becoming a homemaker.

She married John DeMatteo on May 12, 1973, in Sidney.

Brenda loved to garden and was gifted at refinishing furniture and antiques.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 30 years, John DeMatteo, Sidney; her parents, Victor and Flossi Miller, Sidney; son, Matthew DeMatteo, Groton; daughter, Johanna DeMatteo, Sidney; two granddaughters, Leah and Emma DeMatteo, Groton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vicki and David Kulze, Sidney, and Cheryl and David Sofra, Raleigh, N.C. parents-in-law, Emilio (Chief) and Theresa DeMatteo, Bainbridge; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by a son, Brent L. DeMatteo.

Upon Brenda's request services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Brenda's name to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Alex Neish Doig

VANHORNESVILLE — A memorial service for Mr. Alex Neish Doig, 92, who passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Folts Nursing Home, Herkimer, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the VanHornesville United Methodist Church, VanHornesville, with the Rev. Cindy Makarchuk officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Lloyd Tilley

MOUNT VISION — Graveside services for Lloyd Tilley, 82, of Mount Vision, who died on Dec. 15, 2002, will be held Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Mount Vision Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Yoder officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Francis Husselbeck

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — The Rev. Francis E. Husselbeck, 72, of Mercy Care Lane, former Pastor of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, May 15, 2003, in Our Lady of Mercy Life Care in Guilderland.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1930, in Albany, a son of the late Francis E. and Margaret Grace LaBombard Husselbeck.

In 1949, he graduated from Keveny Academy, Cohoes. He went on to Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Conn., where he received an associate's degree in Philosophy in 1952, and graduating from St. Bernard's Seminary, Rochester, with a bachelor's degree in Theology in 1954. His ordination as a Catholic Priest took place on May 31, 1958, upon completion of continued studies in Theology and Seminary from St. Bernard's.

In the spring of 1979, he continued studies in Theology at the North American College, Rome, Italy. For 45 years he served the Albany Diocese as a dedicated priest. His assignments as a priest were as Assistant Pastor of Our Lady of Victory, Troy, Associate Pastor of St. Columbus Church, Schenectady.

He served as Chaplain of the Schenectady County Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Associate Pastor of Holy Spirit Church of East Greenbush, serving as the Administrator from March to June of 1968. He then served as Associate Pastor of Our Lady Mercy, Colonie, and from Dec. 1968 to Feb. 1979 he was Pastor of St. Ann, Fort Ann Church. During this time, he also served as Chaplain at the Comstock Correctional Facility.

From September of 1979 until August of 1985, he was Pastor of St. Anges/St. Patrick Church, Cohoes. In August 1985, he came to Richfield Springs, where he served as Pastor of Saint Joseph's Church until his retirement in August of 1998.

He is survived by a brother, Joseph A. Husselbeck; two sisters, Ellen T. Feeney and her husband, Gary, Sister M. Francesca Husselbeck, RSM; a sister-in-law Marilyn Husselbeck; five nephews: Eric and his wife, Michelle, Husselbeck, Kurt and his wife Andrea, Husselbeck, Kevin and his wife, Shannon, Husselbeck, Shawn Gary Feeney, Shannon Patrick Feeney, two nieces, Kellie Kathleen Nedoroscik and her husband, Frank, and Judy Husselbeck; grandnieces and grandnephews: Ryan Husselbeck, Owen Husselbeck, Kassandra Husselbeck, Zachery Nedoroscik, Frank Nedoroscik and Shannin Nedoroscik.

The reception of the body will be held on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m. in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, followed by public visitation from 4 until 7 p.m. At the conclusion of visitation, a Parish Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Benentende presiding and the Rev. Robert Shinos as Homilist.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Cohoes. Bishop Howard J. Hubbard will officiate as principal celebrant. Preceding the Mass, visitation will be held in the church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Father Husselbeck will be laid to rest in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.

Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs or Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercy Care Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Harriet Tiderencel

ONEONTA — Harriet A. Tiderencel, 65, of Oneonta passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born on May 21, 1937, in Binghamton, N.Y., the beloved daughter of Kenneth and Helen (Pedro) Frederick.

Harriet married Donald P. Tiderencel on June 30, 1956, in Binghamton. Harriet lived many places during the 22 years Donald served in the military, including Plattsburgh, N.Y., Dover, Delaware, and Brindisi, Italy.

She lived on Woodside Avenue in Oneonta for 27 years. She retired from the State University College at Oneonta Bookstore in 1991.

Harriet will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her fun sense of humor. She was a caring friend to many.

She enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, bargain shopping, and most of all, her grandchildren.

Harriet is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Donald; their children, Donald Jr. of Binghamton, Ronald and Janis of Maryland, N.Y., and Janice and Timothy Pidgeon of Oneonta. She leaves eight grandchildren, Elease, Joseph, Kristina, Lorraine, Lauren, Kelly, Brendan and Zachary, who will all miss her dearly; one great-granddaughter, Jayla Grace, and very special friends, Carol and Charlie Bollinger.

The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday May 20, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Paul Roman officiating.

The family thanks Dr. Hones, Dr. Naqvi, Dr. Levy, Dr. Santos, Dr. Sabella, Nurse Michelle White, Oneonta Fire Department ambulance crew and the staff at Fox Hospital ER and ICU for their support and care, and for helping to make her passing peaceful.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harriet's memory may be made to the Oneonta Fire Department Rescue Fund or Catskill Area Hospice, Inc., 542 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.
