Bruce H. Carter, 83, of Green Street, Port Byron, died Wednesday. He was born in Conquest. He was a toolmaker for Gleason & Avery in Auburn for many years. Peggy Hamlin Walker, 78, of 106 Lakeview Drive, Liverpool, died Thursday. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Liverpool High School and Crouse Memorial School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City for 15 years and also at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Crouse Irving Memorial Auxiliary and Trinity United Methodist Church. Her husband, Dr. Robert L., died in 1982. Survivors: Two daughters, Patricia Makuch of Flemington, N.J., and Cynthia Walker of Dayton, Minn.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Maurer Funeral Home. Robert H. Ahearn

Robert H. Ahearn, 78, of North Syracuse died Wednesday. He was born in Boston and lived in the Syracuse area for 41 years. He retired as a warehouse manager in 1987 after five years with Devoe Paint. He previously worked eight years at Syracuse University Research Corp. as a purchasing agent. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He retired with rank of sergeant first class after 22 years with the Army. He served as a machine gunner in the Third Infantry Division during World War II, fighting in the European Theater. His wife, Elfriede, died in 1997. Survivors: A daughter, Cynthia Smith of Alberta, Canada; a sister, Lynne Huddleston of Georgia; his companion, Tomoko Schaus of Syracuse; four grandchildren. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich and the African Violet Club and a former leader for 4-H. She also was active in Cooperative Extension. Her husband, Clayton, died previously. Survivors: A daughter, Cynthia Bower of Baldwinsville; a son, Richard of Bealeton, Va.; two sisters, Clara Rutan of Willet and Mildred Fish of Cincinnatus; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Raymond B. Burke, 93, of Van Duyn Home & Hospital, Onondaga Hill, formerly of East Syracuse, died Friday. He was born in East Syracuse. He retired as a fire inspector in 1971 after 29 years with General Electric Co. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, East Syracuse. He was a former member of East Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the General Electric 25-Year Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Yolanda, died in 1999. A son, Robert, died in 1984. Survivors: A daughter, Susan A. Smith of Syracuse; a son, the Rev. Richard R. of Fredonia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She worked many years at Auburn Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1984 as an instructor in the licensed practical nursing program at BOCES.
