William O. Schoenfisch

MOHAWK — William Owen Schoenfisch, 90, formerly of Kingston, N.Y., West Paterson, N.J. and Jersey City, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2003, in the Mohawk homestead where he resided since 1999.

He was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Jersey City, N.J., a son of the late Henry Oscar and Elizabeth (Glasson) Schoenfisch. Raised and educated in Jersey City, he graduated from Dickinson High School.

In 1940, he married Helen Logan Duff in Jersey City. Helen died Nov. 19, 1988.

During World War II, he served with the United States Navy Seabees on many of the Japanese-held islands in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged Jan. 26, 1946, receiving a citation from President Truman and a letter of commendation from Secretary of Defense James Forrestal. For more than 30 years, he worked as a real estate broker. From 1950 until 1970, he worked for John J. Connelly and Associates in Totowa, N.J., and then for Century 21 in Little Falls, N.J. He retired in 1990.

After his retirement he moved to Kingston, where he resided until moving to Mohawk. While living in New Jersey he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a member of American Legion Post No. 0238 of West Paterson, N.J., for 57 years.

Mr. Schoenfisch was a community-minded man, an outstanding example of true volunteerism.

He took great pride in his volunteer work at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. He received citations and personal letters from then Mayor of Kingston T.R. Gallo, Governor Mario Cuomo and U.S. Congressman Maurice Hinchey, as well as a testimonial from Benedictine Hospital for his accomplishment of thousands of volunteer hours served.

While living at the Mohawk homestead he continued to do volunteer work. He enjoyed working with the pre-school program at the YMCA in Mohawk and writing poems for people he met.

Surviving are two sons. William Kent Schoenfisch and his wife, Nancy Gail, of Richfield Springs, Donald Stuart Schoenfisch of Brockton, Mass.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Schoenfisch of Waterford, Jeffrey Schoenfisch of Virginia Beach, Va., Brian Schoenfisch of San Diego, Calif.; one great-grandson, Cameron Schoenfisch of Virginia Beach, Va., and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Interment will take place in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, N. J.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Alan R. Pitreau

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Alan R. Pitreau, 64, formerly of South Cairo, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his home in Titusville, Fla., following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born in New York City, he lived most of his life in the Columbia and Greene County area, attending Coxsackie schools and working for Universal Match Corporation. At the time of his illness, he was employed by Patch Communications in Titusville.

Alan enjoyed collecting matchbook covers and sports cards. In recent years, he enjoyed learning about computers and sharing that knowledge with friends and family.

Alan moved to Florida five years ago and loved entertaining his family at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Wilma (Teter); his children, Christine (Eric) Blahut, Joan (Robert) Vincent, Cynthia Gottlieb, Alana (Michael) Brown, Melissa Lipari and Brian Slater; grandchildren, Stanley, Adam and Colin Burch, Eric Blahut, Michelle Curtin, Marc and Ryan Vincent, Jessica Slater, Lisa, Nicole and Joseph Gottlieb, Troy and Nathan Brown, Christopher, Stephanie, and Sean Slater, and Haley Andrews; one great- grandchild; a sister, Dolores, (Anthony) Race; sisters-in-law, Carol Cossette, Judy Orbacz, Irma Ruston, Ruth Waterman, and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert Pitreau and Rose (Farrell) Pfeffer; a son, Michael Slater; and his longtime canine companions, Abby and Rudy.

Those wishing to pay respects may call at the Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, Town Hall Drive, Greenport, between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with interment at the West Ghent Cemetery.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Hospice of St. Francis and the staff of Patch Communications.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis, PO Box 5563, Titusville, FL 32783 or the Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support and Education.

Henry A. Aney Jr.

COOPERSTOWN — Henry Abram Aney Jr., lifetime resident of Cooperstown and surrounding area, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2003.

Henry, with more than 23 years of service with the Cooperstown Elementary School, had many friends in the area.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Joan, son-in-law, Jack, three grandsons, William, Brett and Shawn, granddaughter-in-law, Stacy, great-granddaughter Emma, Carol's husband Rich, as well as many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie, and his daughter, Carol.

The Aney family thanks the many friends who enriched Henry's life, assisting him to remain independent in his senior years.

As he wished, there will be a private family interment service at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Henry's name to the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, PO Box 322, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Mary A. Ranieri

BRADENTON, Fla. — Mrs. Mary A. Ranieri, 93, of Bradenton, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her residence.

She was born in Sparta, Sicily, on Jan. 21, 1910, and moved to Oneonta from New York City in 1933, where she remained for 40 years.

Mary was a homemaker, member of Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church and a past charter member of the Italian-American Club of Oneonta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick, in 1994 and a son, Jack F. Ranieri, in 1991.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Agatha M. Ludlam of Bradenton, Fla., her sons Joseph D. Ranieri of Bradenton and John M. Ranieri of Marco Island, Fla.; her sister Mamie Pipitone of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 on Friday, July 4, at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manasota Chapel, 1221 53rd Ave. E., Brandenton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manasota Chapel, with Fr. Edward Moretti officiating.

Entombment will be at Manasota Memorial Park, Brandenton.

Norma S. Stever

DOWNSVILLE — Norma S. Stever, 97, died at her home in Downsville, N.Y., on Tuesday, July 1, 2003.

She was born April 22, 1906, in West Kill, N.Y., the daughter of Nellie Cole and Ellsworth Emerson Sharpe.

She was first married to Peter J. Reynolds, who died in 1935. Her second husband, Vernal H. Lord, died in 1953. She later married Clifford K. Stever, who died in 1982.

She was a licensed practical nurse, having received her training in Ithaca, N.Y., and was devoted to her vocation. She was a charter member and secretary of the Lexington Fire Company Auxiliary. She also served as an aircraft observer at the observation post in West Kill, N.Y., during World War II and assisted her husband, Clifford K. Stever, in his survey work. She enjoyed sewing and needlework. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

A daughter, Rita R. Finkle of East Branch, N.Y., and son, Bernard J. Reynolds of Pflugerville, Texas, survive her. Nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert S. Reynolds, in 1945, five sisters, Minnie Sharpe, Dora Lutz, Sarah Lutz, Lydia Bloodgood and Goldena Sabot and a brother Delavan Sharpe.

Friends and relatives may call at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main Street, Hunter, on Sunday, July 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, July 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Haines Falls, N.Y. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Flannery.

Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in South Jewett, N.Y.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, Lexington Historical Society or the Downsville Rescue Squad, in her memory.

David 'Doc' Patchen

BAINBRIDGE — David J. "Doc" Patchen, 52, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at his home.

He was born April 5, 1951, son of Donald and Elizabeth (Hitchcock) Patchen in Sidney.

David graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1969 and then attended Broome County Community College and graduated in 1971. He was employed at Quest International in Norwich.

At one time David ran a small engine repair shop in Bainbridge called Mower Dr. He was also a commercial pilot. David loved woodworking. It started as a hobby and turned into a passion. Sharing time with family and friends brought him great joy.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Patchen of Bainbridge; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Pat Chambers of Syracuse, Diane and Gary Gardner of Afton; four nephews and their families, Kirby Lord, of Texas, Erik Lord of Syracuse, Tim Gardner of Afton, Joe Gardner of Kentucky, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Patchen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2003, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Douglas Horne, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Afton, will officiate.

Friends may call one hour before the service at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave, Endicott, NY 13760.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

David W. Shaw

DELHI — David W. Shaw, 86, of Treadwell Road, Delhi (Town of Meredith), a native and life-long area resident, passed away peacefully at home Friday morning, July 4, 2003, with his family by his side.

The son of Parker W. and Mary (Smith) Shaw, he was born Nov. 2, 1916, on the family farm in the town of Meredith, received his education at Delaware Academy and graduated from the Delhi Agricultural College, later marrying Jeanne L. Fuller on Jan. 27, 1946, in Delhi. She died Oct. 12, 2001.

A four-and-a-half-year W.W. II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army anti-aircraft artillery regiment, stationed in England, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany.

In early years, David was a cattle dealer, subsequently operating his own dairy farm for 20 years and, later, a small trailer park near his home, remaining active until several weeks ago.

An organized and disciplined man of varied interests, he took great pride in his flower garden, was an avid league bowler, enjoyed deep-sea fishing and horseshoe pitching, as well as traveling in his motor home, having taken two cross-country trips with his wife, also spending four winters in Riverview, Fla.

David was a life-member of the Meredith Baptist Church where he was a deacon, trustee and, at the time of his death, financial secretary; The Gideons International; and Donald W. Gleason Post 190, American Legion.

Surviving are his son, Lawrence E. Shaw of Delhi; two daughters, Patricia (David) Cronk and Marcia L. Shaw; two grandchildren, Cheryl Lucas and John Scott (Annemarie) Cronk; a great-granddaughter, Ella Susanne Cronk, all of Lehigh Valley, Pa.; a brother, Paul (Joyce) Shaw, Delhi; a sister, Elizabeth (George) Blanchard, Sidney; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Shaw, Delhi, Dorothy Shaw, Sidney, and Mary Shaw, Riverview, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a close friend, Janet Silvernail, Oneonta.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Sheldon, Benjamin and Oliver Shaw, and a sister, Esther Butler.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, July 7, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Meredith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Staples and the Rev. Mario Gazzilli officiating.

Burial will follow in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville, with military honors by the Gleason American Legion Post.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meredith Baptist Church or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Jacob H. Froehlich

UNADILLA — Jacob H. Froehlich, 79, of Unadilla, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford, N.Y.

He was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Oneonta, N.Y., the son of the late Jacob L. and Daisy (Derhammer) Froehlich.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was stationed in Guam and Saipan with the 20th Air Force Air Depot Group during most of his service time.

Jacob was a retired iron worker and was employed for many years by the Iron Workers Local No. 158 in Binghamton, N.Y. He was also employed for a time with the D and H Railroad. At one time he was a part-time patrolman with the Bainbridge and Sidney police departments.

He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church of Sidney, Sidney Elks Lodge No. 2175, Sidney VFW Post 7914 and Sidney American Legion Post No. 183.

Jacob is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, June McKown of Smethport, Pa., and Alice and Gary French of South Plymouth, N.Y.; his former wife, Marie Hover Froehlich of Unadilla; four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew McKown and Heather and Jeremy French, and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Scott McKown and Erin McKown.

Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., Unadilla, Monday, July 7, from noon until service time when the family will be present.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, from the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla. The Rev. James Vargo, Pastor of St. Lukes Lutheran Church of Sidney, will officiate.

Burial with be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, with full military honors.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Ursula A. Rossi

ONEONTA — Ursula A. Rossi, 70, of Oneonta, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

Ursula was born June 27, 1933, in Oneonta, the daughter of Emilio and Michelina Rossi.

She was employed by New York Telephone as the chief operator until she resigned to care for her mother. In her later years she worked as an aide at Riverside Elementary School. She was a member of St. Mary's Church Rosary Society and former member of St. Mary's Altar Guild, the Oneonta Business Women's Club, and the Oneonta Italian American Club. Her main interests revolved around church activities at St. Mary's.

She is survived by her sister, Anne F. House of Oneonta; her nephew, LeRoy House of Wexford, Pa.; her niece, Mary Emily House of Oneonta; two grandnieces; one grandnephew; and several cousins.

She is also survived by many loving friends.

Friends are invited to call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at which time the family will be in attendance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Tammy Sue Augugliaro

CHARLOTTEVILLE — Tammy Sue Augugliaro, 39, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 2, 2003.

She was born on May 17, 1964, in Cobleskill, the daughter of Thomas Augugliaro and Wilma Harrington.

Tammy was a graduate of Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport, Class of 1982. Tammy was a bartender at the End Zone in Worcester, the Red Barn in Summit and the Pour House in Oneonta.

She is survived by her three children, Desiree and Matthew Rap and their father, Stephan Rap, and Vincent Butler and his father, Tammy's fiancι, Richard Butler; her mother, Wilma Feciskonin of Charlotteville; her grandmother, Flora Harrington of Cobleskill, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Augugliaro and her dad for many years, Julius Feciskonin.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.

The funeral service will be a 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Sutch, pastor of the Davenport and West Davenport United Methodist Churches, and the Rev. Carol Wilson, pastor of the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Charlotteville Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Charlotteville Fire Department or the Charlotteville First Responders, PO Box 122, Charlotteville, N.Y., 12036.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Leonard J. Larson Sr.

MASONVILLE — Leonard J. Larson Sr., 55, of Masonville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at The Hospital in Sidney.

He was born Feb. 10, 1948, son of the late Carl and Maria (Caddell) Larson Sr., in Patterson, N.J.

Lenny married Catherine Lozito on July 3, 1971, in Patterson, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Larson, of Masonville; two sons, Leonard J. Larson Jr. and Amber Cook, of Bainbridge, and Brian K. Larson, of Sidney; one daughter, Christina Larson, of Masonville; two grandchildren; one brother, Charles Larson, of Sidney; three sisters, Jean Cole, of Masonville, Lois Pace, of Prospect Park, N.J., and Kathy Alimaurat, of Haskell, N.J.; and several nieces nephews and cousins.

He is also predeceased by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in Masonville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonville Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
