Peter Puglisi

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. — On July 10, 2003, Peter Puglisi of Jensen Beach, Fla., went to his heavenly home.

Prior to residing in Florida, Peter lived in Otego, N.Y., for many years. As the owner of Pizza Land Restaurants in Oneonta, N.Y., and Sidney, N.Y., he had strong business and personal relationships to many in the area.

Peter leaves on the earth his beloved wife, Frances, of Jensen Beach, Fla.; children, Carmelo (Pete) Puglisi, Orlando, Fla., and Sarah Puglisi Lynch of Campenos, Brazil; their spouses Patricia Puglisi and Daniel Lynch; the joys of his life, the Puglisi-Lynch grandchildren, Pete, Jessie and Michaela Puglisi; Patrick and wife, Maria, Kevin and Katie Lynch. Also, sister-in-law, Nancy Garufi of Oneonta, who was more of a lifelong sister; his nephews, Tino and Vinnie Garufi, who were more like sons to Peter and brothers to Sarah and Carmelo, of Oneonta, their respective wives, Debbie and Therese, and their children.

Peter loved to hunt and to have his family visiting him. Once in heaven, his best friend, Sam Emerick, will show him the good hunting spots and great places to walk.

Peter will be cremated and a memorial service will take place at a later time.

William P. Armour

UNADILLA — Graveside committal services for William P. Armour, who passed away Jan. 16, 2003, will be held in Unadilla Center Cemetery, Sunday, July 20, 2003, at 9 a.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of Funeral Directors James S. Westcott and James C. Magee.

Richard F. Beadle

SOUTH NEW BERLIN — A memorial service in memory of Richard F. Beadle will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 18, 2003, at the South New Berlin Firehouse.

Dick passed away June 11, 2003, in the Veterans Hospital in Albany.

Andrew DuMond

MASONVILLE — Andrew DuMond, 67, of Masonville, went to be with his Lord at 3:10 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born March 13, 1936, in Sidney, the son of the late Clarence Elmer and Ella Mae (Bartlett) DuMond.

Andy grew up in Masonville and was a 1955 graduate of Sidney High School.

Andy chose Shirley Banks of Unadilla to be his wife in 1960. Andy and Shirley have been residents of Masonville for the past 40 years.

Andy was Athlete of the Year in high school, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.

He was an employee of Borden's in Bainbridge, for 45 years.

He was a born again Christian and was very active in his church, the River Street Baptist Church in Oneonta. He served his church as a lay preacher, chairman of the Board of Deacons, trustee, youth director and teen Sunday school teacher.

He was a good and faithful man and will be missed very much.

Andy is survived by his wife, Shirley DuMond, of Masonville; his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Jr. and Cherice of Masonville; his daughters and a son-in-law, Julia and Frank Vanca of Sidney, and Aleasha Thomson of Masonville; his grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua and Jason DuMond of Masonville, and Roseanna Vanca and Frank Vanca Jr. of Sidney; his mother-in-law, Edna Banks of Mount Upton; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His family would like to invite you to join in the celebration of his passing from his earthly life to his heavenly home, at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003, in the River Street Baptist Church, 133 River St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, (directly off Exit 10 of I-88) on Friday, July 18, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Elisabeth A. Latt

EAST WORCESTER — Elisabeth A. Latt, 96, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at The Meadows in Middlefield.

She was born Oct. 18, 1906, in Danzig, Germany, the daughter of Karl Gustav and Margarethe Helene (Hackbardt) Preissing.

She married Gert L. Latt on June 18, 1931. He predeceased her on Feb. 26, 1997.

She is survived by four children, Ann-Mari Maher, Helgi and husband, Clarence Mepham, Gunner Latt and Holger and wife, Sondra, Latt; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the East Worcester Cemetery, State Highway 7, East Worcester, with the Rev. Warren Babcok, retired, officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Louise May Merwin

MIDDLEBURGH — Mrs. Louise May Merwin, 79, of Mount Path, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Mrs. Merwin was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Binghamton, the daughter of Louis and Elsie (Hamm) Anderson.

She was a lifelong area resident of Schoharie County, living in Jefferson and the town of Broome, as well as Middleburgh.

Mrs. Merwin was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Ruben Wayman Sr., her second husband, Walter Merwin, a son, Ruben Wayman Jr., and a grandson, Johnathan Howard Rivenburg.

Survivors include two daughters, Viola Slater of Middleburgh and Joyce Walker of Harris; two sons, William Miller and Howard Wayman, both of Middleburgh; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Palmer & Shaylor, Inc., Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, with the Rev. Carol Coltrain officiating. Burial will be in Keyserkill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Broome Volunteer Fire Department, care of Bill Smith, 1373 State Route 145, Middleburgh, NY 12122.

Everett C. Pulver

ONEONTA — The memorial service for Everett C. Pulver, 75, who died July 9, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Church Of The Holy Spirit, Arch Street, Schenevus, first with a Masonic service then followed by the Memorial Mass, with the Rev. Richard Knudson, as celebrant.

Everett was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, Inc. & Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Anthony J. Maneen

ILION — Mr. Anthony J. Maneen, 57, of 174 W. State St., passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2003, in University Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes, kidney and heart disease.

He was born in Ilion on June 22, 1946, the son of the late Samuel C. and Jennie Terzo Maneen.

Anthony attended Ilion schools and graduated from Ilion High School with the Class of 1964. He later attended and graduated from Albany School of Pharmacy with the Class of 1974.

He was married to Jean Keddell on July 30, 1966, in the Church Of The Annunciation in Ilion.

Anthony served as the supervising pharmacist for the opening of Carl's Drugs in Herkimer in 1976. He later was the owner and operator of Maneen's Village Pharmacy in Richfield Springs and later of Maneen's Pharmacy in Newport for many years. Following his retirement, he worked part-time as a pharmaceutical consultant for local pharmacies in both the Herkimer and Oneida County areas. He had most recently worked with the Oneida County Correctional Facility in the pharmacy.

He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen Of Apostles Church and a member of Knights Of Columbus Council No. 518, Ilion, as a Third Degree Knight, Ilion Elks BPOE Lodge, Ilion Moose Lodge No. 1010 and the Mohawk Valley Pharmaceutical Association.

He was a former member and past president of the Ilion Little League, Jaycees and served as an umpire for local football games.

He served with the Herkimer County Legislature since June 1995 and was the presiding chairman since January 2002.

He was an avid Yankee fan and was very athletic while in high school and college, playing football. While attending college, he played for Union College in Albany.

Anthony is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Jean Maneen; three sons, Samuel C. Maneen of Woodbridge, Va., Francis A. Maneen of Rochester and Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Maneen, serving with the United States Air Force in Ramstein, Germany; one brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Linda Maneen of Greenville, S.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mayme and Gerald Fluharty of Frankfort; his cherished granddaughter, Briana Maneen; his mother-in-law, Ruth Keddell of Ilion; in-laws, Lorita Keddell, James and Pat Keddell, Sister Margaret Keddell, Barbara Griffin, Paul and June Keddell, Peter and Deb Keddell, Mary Patelos and Kenneth and Francine Keddell; his Godchildren, Daniel Fluharty, Erick Judson, Andrea Keddell-Heintz, Lindsay Lockett and Joseph De Stafano; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Francis Keddell, and brother-in-law, Dan Kedell.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home Inc. Members of the Knights Of Columbus will meet Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home for services.

His funeral will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, at 10:15 a.m. from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, and at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Queen Of Apostles Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John Yanas, pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney, Diabetes or Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Jonathan R. Peet

DELHI — Jonathan Robert Peet, 34, a native and lifelong Delhi resident, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003, at his home.

The son of Robert A. and Ann N. (Williamson) Peet, he was born Oct. 2, 1968, in Delhi, was a graduate of Delaware Academy and SUNY Canton College of Technology, where he received his degree in mortuary science, with certification by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards, subsequently obtaining his state funeral director's license and joining his father in the operation of the family funeral business, Hall & Peet Funeral Home.

Jonathan was also a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy (1988-93), serving as a sonar technician in the Pacific Fleet.

He was confirmed in the United Ministry of Delhi and served as a Youth Advisory Delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA, Indianapolis (1984); was a member of the former Delaware County Men's Choir; Past-Master of the Delhi Masonic Lodge; Walton Royal Arch Masons; Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Delaware Masonic District; Delhi Odd Fellows Lodge; Past Vice Commander of Donald W. Gleason Post 190, American Legion; and Delta Kappa Sigma treasurer and pledge master at SUNY Canton.

Compassionate and thoughtful of others, Jonathan possessed a passion for music and his guitar. He was also a sports enthusiast and longtime Atlanta Braves fan.

Surviving are his parents of Delhi; four sisters, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Sabino of Ithaca, Jennifer (Jason) Peet-Smith of Yokosuka, Japan, Robyn (Christopher) Rawls of Wappingers Falls and Allison (Joseph) Sitts of Madison; his grandmother, Barbara Peet of Holiday, Fla.; an aunt, uncle and three cousins.

Friends are invited to call at the family home on Sunday, July 20, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Monday, at the United Ministry of Delhi, by the Rev. Lisa Heckman, with military honors by the Gleason American Legion Post. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Delhi, will be appreciated.

Sawyer E. Kinch

DELHI — Sawyer E. Kinch, who was loved by many, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 17, 2003, with his family at his side.

He was born March 29, 1933, in Delhi, the son of Raymond and Mary (Bell) Kinch.

On March 30, 1957, he married Florence Dubben in the Middlefield Baptist Church.

Sawyer enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War as a construction engineer.

After his time in the service, he worked at the Edelweiss Cleaners in Delhi for 11 years. In 1964, he went to work for the Delaware County Highway Department. There he worked as a heavy equipment operator, painter and parts manager. He retired from the highway department in 1988. Upon his retirement, he spent much of his time playing golf and enjoying his family.

The most important part of Sawyer's life was his family. He always made time for gatherings with his daughters and their families. The annual Kinch family reunions were times he especially cherished. The arrival of his two grandsons was Sawyer's greatest joy. Andy and Connor were truly the light of his life. Sawyer touched the lives of many, sharing a conversation, telling a joke or lending a helping hand.

Sawyer is a retiree of the Delhi Fire Department. He was a member of the Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post No. 190 in Delhi. He enjoyed camping and taught his children to experience the adventure of it. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching other family members the skill and love of the game.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Florence Kinch; two daughters, Sharon Kinch-Mead of Oneonta and Lori Kinch-Ashley of Otego; two sons-in-law, James Mead and Samuel Ashley; and two grandsons, Andrew Mead, 13, and Connor Ashley, 2. He also leaves behind his brothers and sisters, as well as their spouses, Wilhelmina (Billie) and George Sturdevant, Lynwood and Ruth Kinch, Howard Kinch and Millie Cronk and Barbara Mathiesen, all of Delhi, and Raymond and Gerry Kinch of Oceanside. He also leaves sisters-in-law and their spouses, Margaret Yerdon of Cherry Valley, Mabel and Ted Graham of Bellevue, Wash., and Flora and Raymond Polulech of Hartwick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two infant brothers.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, July 20, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi, where the family will be in attendance. Memorial services will take place on Tuesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the United Ministry of Delhi with the Rev. Lisa Heckman and Commissioned Lay Pastor John W. Truscott officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and the Delhi Fire Department Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Lester K. Banks

ARKVILLE — Mr. Lester Kenneth Banks, 79, died on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

He was born on July 14, 1924, in Monroe, the son of Casper Banks and Emma Hauver.

He married Beverly Jane Decker on May 2, 1969 in Monroe.

Lester grew up in the Millbrook Valley and spent most of his life in Arkville.

He was employed at the Armand Erpf Estate for 32 years as a chauffeur and caretaker. His love for flowers showed at the many gardens surrounding the estate.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also was an avid race car fan. His talent showed through when he was challenged in the construction of model cars, planes and houses.

His sense of humor was always apparent, even after his illness started in 1988. He touched everyone with his wit and spunk, even until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Banks, "His Bevy," of Arkville; one daughter, Susan Fronckowiak of Escondido, Calif.; two grandsons, Eric and Cain Fronckowiak; one great-grandson, Cody Fronckowiak; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, July 20, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 21, at Hynes Funeral Home. Paul J. Nuzzi will be officiating. Burial will be at the Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns, at a later date.

In his memory, contributions can be made to the Margaretville Ambulance Squad or to Hospice of Delhi.

Josephine Augi

JEFFERSON — Mrs. Josephine Augi, 85, died on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born in Sicily, on Oct. 20, 1917, the daughter of Giuseppi Failla and Itria Baldanza.

Mrs. Augi has been an area resident for 15 years, relocating from Brooklyn, N.Y.

A loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, she will be remembered always by her son, Robert, and his wife, Holly, of Jefferson; her sister, Mary Costanzo of Staten Island; her brothers, Mario Failla of California, Vincent Failla of Omaha, Neb.; and her special niece, Mary Greenman, of Staten Island. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, on Sunday, July 20, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Ligato on Monday, July 21, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart RCC in Stamford. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Kenneth G. Howe

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Kenneth G. Howe, of Winners Circle, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Saratoga Hospital. He was 72.

Born on Jan. 6, 1931, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Alfred and Alice (Kealy) Howe.

A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Howe worked as a sales director and was employed by the Ramada Renaissance in Saratoga Springs and the Otesaga Inn in Cooperstown.

He loved horse racing and enjoyed spending time at the Saratoga Race Track.

He is survived by his two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Howe, both of Florida; a sister, Alice Weber, and her husband, William, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at St. Martin's Church in Amityville, and calling hours were held prior at Massapequa Funeral Home Inc. in Massapequa Park. Burial was in the family plot at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Due to a clerical error, the obituary was not submitted before the services. Any memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020.

Howard E. Pearsall Jr.

HALCOTTSVILLE — Mr. Howard E. Pearsall, Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1920 in Staten Island, the son of Howard Edgar Pearsall and Hazen Kern.

He married Marianne Egerer on July 29, 1950, at Town of St. George, Staten Island.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and retired from the B&O Railroad in Brooklyn.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post in Greene County.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Pearsall of Halcottsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Mercedes and Benedict Gruosso of Roxbury; two grandsons, Joseph and Thomas Gruosso; and two brothers, Elwood and Herbert Pearsall.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Arthur Pearsall.

Funeral services will be private.
