Glenn R. Bowker

WALTON — Glenn R. "Mike" Bowker Jr., 54, of Walton, passed away Friday evening, July 18, 2003, at home, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born in Walton, the son of Glenn R. and Ella Gray Bowker on July 22, 1948.

He was a graduate of Walton Central School and SUNY at Morrisville. Upon returning from college, he operated the family farm until his death.

Mike married the former Janice C. Redder on Oct. 11, 1969, in Horseheads. He loved the farm life, and enjoyed and participated in tractor pulls. He also enjoyed belonging to and competing with the Walton Pistol Club. He was a life member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Janice C. Bowker; two sons, Glenn R. and Michelle Bowker and Dale M. Bowker, both of Walton; his mother, Ella Bowker of Walton; one granddaughter, Samantha R. Bowker of Walton; four sisters, Betsey and Eric Edwards of Northboro, Mass., Barbara and John Danylak of East Nassau, Linda and Gary Lalone of Tyre, and Lisa and Robert Huyck of Treadwell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Glenn R. Bowker Sr.; and a sister, Sally Bowker.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, July 21, 2003, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Church, Benton Avenue, Walton, with the Rev. Michael Flannery officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that Mike be remembered with a contribution in his memory to either the Catskill Area Hospice, or to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available at the funeral home.

Victoria Egnaczak

SIDNEY — Victoria H. "Vickie" Egnaczak, 86, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on July 18, 2003.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1916, to the late Maxmillan and Eva (Sczurmanski) Wepasnick in Olean.

Vickie married Chester B. Egnaczak in Olean, on Sept. 21, 1946. He predeceased her on April 29, 1984.

Vickie retired from Bendix. She worked for several years in the molding department.

She was also known for making delicious and beautiful cakes and loved to work in her flower gardens.

She was also active in the McDonald Hose Ladies Auxiliary.

Vickie is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Monica (Thomas) Jensen, Norwich, Mary (Richard) Cicotta, Fairport, and Vicki (Bill) Hood, Sidney; one son and daughter-in-law, Bernard and Susan Egnaczak, Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, Andrea Zurbruegg, Liverpool, John Zurbruegg, Tempe, Ariz., Katherine Jensen, Norwich, Brian Hood, Raleigh, N.C., and fiancee, Amanda Frederick, Danielle Hood, Lewisburg, Pa., Jaime, Erin and Alexander Egnaczak, Fayetteville, also, sister, Wanda Korba, California, sister-in-law, Corda Wepasnick, Maryland; good friend, John Gallagher; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Alexander Zurbruegg; and brothers, William and Leonard Wepasnick.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, when the family will be in attendance at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, the Sidney Emergency Squad or the Sacred Heart Church.

Lester K. Banks

ARKVILLE — Mr. Lester Kenneth Banks, 79, of Arkville, died on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

He was born on July 14, 1924, in Monroe, the son of Casper Banks and Emma Hauver.

He married Beverly Jane Decker on May 2, 1969, in Monroe.

Lester grew up in the Millbrook Valley and spent most of his life in Arkville.

He was employed at the Armand Erpf Estate for 32 years as a chauffeur and caretaker. His love for flowers showed at the many gardens surrounding the estate.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also was an avid race car fan. His talent shone through when he was challenged in the construction of model cars, planes and houses.

His sense of humor was always apparent even after his illness started in 1988. He touched everyone with his wit and spunk, even until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Banks, "His Bevy," Arkville; one daughter, Susan Fronckowiak, Escondido, Calif.; two grandsons, Eric and Cain Fronckowiak; one great-grandson, Cody Fronckowiak; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Calling hours were held Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, July 21, 2003, at the Hynes Funeral Home, with Paul J. Nuzzi officiating. Burial will be at the Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns, at a later date.

In his memory, contributions can be made to the Margaretville Ambulance Squad or to Hospice of Delhi.

Frederick Websdell

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Frederick J. Websdell, 85, widower of Phylis M. Thompson Websdell, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at his residence.

Mr. Websdell was born in Tidenham, England, a son of the late Frederick and Maude Mary Turner Websdell. His daughter, Thelma P. Davidson; his sister, Helen Maud Jolly; and his son-in-law, Joseph M. Keith, all predeceased him.

He was a former resident of Oneonta, where he was employed at Key Bank. He moved to Myrtle Beach in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Deanna J. Keith of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Shirley A. Greenman and her husband, Michael of Aynor, S.C.; a son-in-law, Gary Davidson of Crossville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A gathering for family and friends will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, July, 22, 2003, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, S.C.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box 50640, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29579.

Christopher G. Sargent

ALTAMONT — Christopher G. Sargent, 29, of Altamont, formerly of Oneonta, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at St. Clare's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Schenectady, and is the cherished son of Marvin G. and Joann Amatuccio Sargent of Altamont.

Christopher was a volunteer with the Lawrence Fire Department, before moving to Altamont. He enjoyed working on cars.

Christopher is survived by his parents; his beloved wife, Christy L. Sargent. He was the devoted father of Daniel, Christopher and Daren Sargent; loving brother of Paul Sargent of Altamont, and Joseph and John Sargent, both of Oneonta. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, Route 155, south of Central Avenue.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie.

Lucille M. Chilletti

NORWICH — Lucille Mary Chilletti, 90, of Sidney, passed away, Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Gilmour Healthcare Facility in Norwich.

She was born Dec. 31, 1912, daughter of the late James and Mabel (Sullivan) Grogan in Hallstead, Pa.

Lucille was employed in the parts department for E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when she retired in 1969.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Grace Velasco, Dade City, Fla., and Mary and James Leonard, Bainbridge; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by daughter JoAnne Sobers; and a brother, James Grogan.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, when the family will be in attendance at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Great Bend, Pa., at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney.

Bernald 'Bud' Lamb

KENNESAW, Ga. — Mr. Bernald "Bud" Lamb, of Kennesaw, Ga., formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died July 18, 2003.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Lamb.

Surviving are his daughter, Carol Black of Kennesaw, Ga.; his sons, David Lamb of Lawrenceville, Ga., Richard Lamb of Minnesota, and Buddy Lamb of Brandon, Fla.; his mother, Rosamond Jenner of Oneonta, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Emeric D. Everett

ONEONTA — Emeric D. Everett, 95 years of age, of Oneonta died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Masonic Home, Utica.

He was born Dec. 9, 1907, in Binghamton, the son of Ralph and Margaret (Rogers) Everett.

Emeric graduated from Walton Central School.

He married Luella Titus on March 19, 1933, in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Everett died on Jan. 10, 1994.

Emeric served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was honorably discharged as a corporal.

He worked for NYSEG as the department C.P.R. in Oneonta for 40 years before his retirement.

Emeric was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Oneonta; a member of the Oneonta American Legion Post No. 259; a member of the Oneonta Lodge No. 466 F.&A.M. as well as a Quarter Century Club of NYSEG.

He is survived by a niece, Sally Titus of Unadilla; a grand nephew, Larry Everett of Snoqualmie Path, Wash.; and four great-grandnieces, Laura and Kristen Everett of Snoqualmie Path, Wash., Patricia Grow and her family of Bainbridge, and Sonia Hall of Bainbridge.

Emeric was predeceased by a brother, Harold Everett; a brother-in-law, Harlow P. Titus; and two nephews, George Titus and Travis Everett.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Adrian McFarlane, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Oneonta Lodge No. 466 F.&A.M., 322 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Oneonta American Legion Post No. 259, 279 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Emeric D. Everett.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

John S. Hinkley

BLOOMVILLE — John S. Hinkley, 83, of Bloomville, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, at his home.

He was born on June 6, 1920, in Bloomville, the son of John and Susie (Lott) Hinkley.

He married Dorothy Barnhart on Feb. 28, 1947, in Bovina Center.

John and Dorothy ran the family farm for 31 years.

John served on the board for GLF and Agway. He was also on the Kortright Town Board. He wrote insurance for Midrox and worked at Delhi Tech. Before becoming ill he was employed by Riverside Cemetery in Bloomville.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Hinkley; three daughters and one son, Joyce Haliday of Jacksonville, Fla., James Hinkley of Indiantown, Fla., Jane Mattice of East Berne, and Jan Bevins of Bloomville; two granddaughters; four grandsons; one brother, Howard Hinkley of Colliersville; two sisters, Martha Brockway of Hobart, and Loreen Rich of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and two sisters, Gertrude Sackett and Frances Bullis.

Memorial services will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Bloomville Methodist Church, with Pastor Steven Young Kim officiating. Friends are invited to a reception at the Hinkley home immediately following the services.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in John's memory can be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 20 Elm St., Delhi, NY 13753.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Hobart.

Catherine K. Howe

SIDNEY — Catherine Kulze Howe, 48, of 1 Demarest Ave., Sidney, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2003, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Feb. 9, 1955, in New York City, the daughter of the late Fred and Adelaide Cleaver Kulze.

Cathy was a graduate of the Sidney High School Class of 1973, and completed her education at Corning Community College.

She was employed for several years at New York State Electric and Gas.

Cathy was a member of the First Congregational Church, Sidney, and the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, Lake Placid.

She is survived by two daughters, Melanie Howe of Clinton, and Melissa Howe of Sidney; brother and sister-in-law, David and Vicki Kulze of Sidney; two stepsons, Alan Howe, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Germany, and Richard Howe of Bainbridge; three grandchildren; two nieces and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, from the First Congregational Church, Sidney, with her Pastor Pat Robinson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call at their convenience Wednesday, July 23, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with her family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Oncology Unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13900.

Gladys McCarthy

LAURENS — Ms. Gladys A. Hrdlicka McCarthy, 84, formerly of Lake George, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Oneonta.

She was born June 23, 1919, in Manhattan, New York City, the daughter of Dolibor and Louise (Boldt) Hrdlicka.

Gladys entered the field of insurance after graduation from Wadleigh High, Manhattan. She held a number of office positions in different clubs in the Lake George area.

Gladys moved to Oneonta in 2001, to be near her daughter, Jo-Ann Winslow. She resided at Robynwood Adult Home, Oneonta, until entering the nursing home in May.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo-Ann and her husband, Edwin Winslow, of Laurens; sons, Edward and his wife, Rita McCarthy, of Argyle, John and his wife, Joyce McCarthy, of Cary, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Betty McCarthy of Bonita Springs, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Hrdlicka of New Jersey; and her favorite cousin, Henry Harding of Wisconsin.

She was predeceased by a son, Warren J. McCarthy, and grandson, John B. McCarthy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Paul R. Messner officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. McCarthy's memory may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Laurens, NY or the Pruyn Building Cancer Pavilion, care of Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
