Charles M. Antoni, 85, of 211-500 Lafayette Road, Syracuse, died Friday. Born in New York City, he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1937 and Lehigh University in 1939. He retired in 1983 after 35 years as a professor of civil engineering at Syracuse University and Cornell University. He was a member of First Unitarian Universalist Society of Syracuse. Survivors: His wife, the former Elinor Maas; two daughters, Cynthia Thomas of Geneva, Switzerland, and Lucy Chamberlain of Warners; three sons, Thomas Waldorf of Sandy, Utah, Raymond Waldorf of Pasadena,  Calif., and Richard Waldorf of Manhattan Beach,  Calif.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson. Services: Private. Spring burial, Valhalla Cemetery. No calling hours. Greenleaf Funeral Home, Syracuse, has arrangements. Gerald J. Conway

Gerald J. Conway, 56, of 13 Perry St., Auburn, died Monday. He was a life resident of Auburn. He graduated from St. Alphonsus School, Mount Carmel High School in Auburn and Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls. He retired in 1997 after 25 years as a city of Auburn firefighter. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, International Firefighters Association and Auburn Firefighters Benevolent Association. He was a member of Utopia Club and its vice president for 16 years. A Navy veteran, he served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. Survivors: His wife, the former Dawn Griffin; two daughters, Jackie Lyn and Kimberly Ann Conway, both of Auburn; a son, Scott F. of Auburn; his mother, Marie Parker Conway of Auburn; a sister, Joyce Sherman of Camillus; two brothers, Richard of Rochester and Kenneth of Red Creek; a grandchild. Services: 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Plis Funeral Home and 11 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church. Burial, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, 220 State St., Auburn.

Raymond Erickson

Raymond Erickson, 88, of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., died Jan. 29. Born in Kaleva, Mich., he lived in Pennellville most of his life, moving away a few years ago. He was a mechanic at Carrier Corp. in Syracuse for many years. He was a member of Callimachus Lodge 369 Free & Accepted Masons in Phoenix, Lake Ontario Commandery 32 Knights Temple in Fulton, Lake Panasoffkee Moose Lodge 1179 and American Legion Post 113 in Baldwinsville. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and served as a sergeant. His wife of 35 years, Jessica, died Jan. 10. Survivors: Several nieces. Services: 11 a.m. Monday in First Congregational Church, 41 Bridge St., Phoenix. Burial, Roosevelt Cemetery. No calling hours. Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, has arrangements. Tommie Hemphill

Tommie Hemphill, 50, of 108 Magnolia St., Syracuse, died Jan. 30 at Rosewood Heights Health Center. He was born in Detroit. He was an assembly worker at Chrysler Corp. for 28 years and an Army veteran. His father, Thomas Hemphill, died previously. Survivors: Three daughters, Antria and Shantel Hemphill, both of Detroit, and Yolanda Hemphill; his mother, Nancy Beaty Hemphill of Detroit; three brothers, Fred, Ricky and Harold; four grandchildren. Services and burial: Will be in Detroit. Greenleaf Funeral Home, Syracuse, has local arrangements.

W. Kenneth King

W. Kenneth King, 90, of Lakeland, Fla., died Monday Born in Auburn, he had lived in Marcellus and Skaneateles before moving to Florida. He retired in 1978 as regional manager for Red Star Express after 43 years. He was a member of Skaneateles Lodge 522 Free & Accepted Masons and Dutch Hollow Recreational Association in Owasco. His wife, Marian E., died in 1987. Survivors: Two sons, Wayne of Cranford, N.J., and James of Exeler, Pa.; a sister, Jean Carter of Fulton; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home. Spring burial, Amber Cemetery. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 77 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, with Masonic services at 8:30 p.m.

Albert D. Kurtz, 79, of Placitas, N.M., died Jan. 26. Born in Syracuse, he lived in Onondaga County, mostly in Mattydale, for 37 years. He retired in 1974 after 30 years as a toolmaker at New Process Gear. He was a member of United Autoworkers of America, Mattydale Volunteer Fire Department, Centerville Lodge 648 Free & Accepted Masons and Malden Road United Church of Christ. His wife, the former Ida E. Raymond, died in 1998. Survivors: Two sons, Timothy of Janesville, Wisc., and Michael of Placitas; five sisters, Dorothea Payette of Kirkville, Marguerite Bruno of Mattydale, Bertha Chapman of Ballston Lake, Aurelia McLaughlin of Clay and Elizabeth Kurtz of Rome; a brother, Edward Kurtz of Hudson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Frank S. LoRusso

Frank S. LoRusso, 84, of Naples, Fla., died Saturday. Born in Long Island City, he moved to Florida in 1972. He was in the Army for six years, the Air Force for 16 years and the Civilian Federal Service for 13 years. Survivors: His wife of 59 years, the former Caroline Costello; a daughter, Rita M. Bebee of Malvern, Pa.; two sons, Frank S. of Rochester and David L. of Syracuse; two sisters, Mary  Jackson and Isabelle Corigliano, both of Rome; two brothers, Matthew and Rinaldo, both of Rome; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Services: 8:15 a.m. Friday at Pirro & Sons Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Burial, Assumption Cemetery. John Norman

John Norman, 89, of Ridgefield, Conn., died Jan. 13 of lung disease. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Syracuse University and received a Ph.D. from Clark University. He lived in Syracuse 50 years and moved away about 30 years ago. He was a professor at Syracuse University and a member of the U.S. Delegation to the San Francisco Conference in 1945 that founded the United Nations. He served as a section chief in the State Department's Office of Intelligence Research and as an historian on Sino-Soviet affairs in the State Department. He was an agent of the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. Survivors: His wife of 54 years, the former Mary Lynott; four daughters, Anne  Johnson of Nuremburg, Germany, Sheila Hanula of Arlington, Va., Eleanor Mika of Houston and Kathleen VonJenna of Redding, Conn.; three brothers, George of Westminster, Md., Rudolph of Fort Myers, Fla., and Henry of Reston, Va.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services: Were in Ridgefield. Jowdy Kane Funeral Home, Ridgefield, had arrangements.

Robert E. Parker, 67, of Syracuse died Sunday. He formerly lived in Elmira. He was a machinist at Selflock Screw Products in North Syracuse and an Air Force veteran. Survivors: Two brothers, Raymond Jr. of Horseheads and David of Gillett, Pa.; two sisters, Marian Hungerford of Corning and Corenne Fagan of Elmira. Services: 1 p.m. today at Barber Funeral Home. Nathan Rosenfeld, 94, of 2660 E. Fayette St., Syracuse, died Tuesday. He was born in Syracuse. He was a licensed master electrician and worked as an independent contractor from 1936 to 1970 and then operated DeWitt Lawn Mower and Allens Bicycle Shop in DeWitt with his son. He was a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun. His wife, Mildred, died in 1996. Survivors: Two sons, Allen of DeWitt and Carl of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Sally Hurwitz of Boca Raton, Fla., and Evelyn Wallace of DeWitt; five grandchildren; one great-grandson. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial, Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. Calling hour, 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 1909 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. Edward J. Schenk, 78, of state Route 20, Madison, died Monday. He was a construction worker his entire life and retired from Snyder Construction in Oneida. He was a member of Madison United Methodist Church. Survivors: Three daughters, Susan Blinebry of Hamilton, Cindy  Johnson of Eugene, Ore., and Galyn Schenk of Watkins Glen; a son, David of Cresswell, Ore.; four sisters, Ruth Jacobs of Winter Haven, Fla., Helen Altamuro of Wampsville, Bonnie Sullivan of Canastota and Kathleen Megyesi of Portland, Ore.; six brothers, Harry of Eaton, Harold of Solsville, Ernie and Fred, both of Knoxboro, Ben of Sherrill and Bill of Canastota; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Viola E. Fancher Weaver, 81, of East Syracuse died Monday at Loretto. Born in Syracuse, she lived in East Syracuse 49 years. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Matthew's Church in East Syracuse. She was a member of American Legion Arthur Butler Post 359 Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Simon Praise Post Auxiliary. Her husband, John L., died in 1979. Survivors: A daughter, Nancy  White of Syracuse; a brother, Edwin Fancher of St. Louis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
