He was a counselor at Southwest Community Center and had worked at General Electric Co. for 19 years. He was a member of People's AME Zion Church and was on its usher and trustee boards. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife, Harvelia; two daughters, Evelyn Akbar of Los Angeles and Deborah Baugh of Syracuse; two sons, Denvil Jr. and Brian, both of Syracuse; a stepdaughter, Sara Vassar of Syracuse; three stepsons, William and Fredrick Sullivan, both of Syracuse, and Harry  Johnson of New Jersey; a sister, Dorothy  Washington of San Antonio,  Texas; five brothers, George and Donald Coleman, both of Los Angeles, Carl and Charles Coleman, both of San Antonio, and George Blair of Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Salvatore "Sam" Lupo, 75, of 116 Curtis Place, Auburn, died Thursday. He was a life resident of Auburn. He worked at Alco Products in Auburn for more than 30 years and also worked as a security guard for several companies in Auburn. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a former member of the Sportsman's Club in Auburn. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Mary, died in 1975. Survivors: His companion of 21 years, Stephanie Carabajal; a daughter, Cathy Tanner of Skaneateles; a son, Michael of Auburn; seven brothers, Paul, John, Tony, Frank, James and Tom, all of Auburn, and Joe of Arizona; four grandchildren. Helen C. Mereweather, 91, of 3 Kings Court, Camillus, died Thursday. Born in Merrickville, Canada, she had lived in Florida 18 years before moving to Camillus. She had been a clerical worker for The Syracuse Newspapers. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus and a member of the Seminole Elks Club's Ladies of the Sea in Florida. Her husband, Leonard, died in November. Survivors: A daughter, Carole Sampsell of Camillus; a son, Robert T. of Bentonville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Harold H. "Jerry" Girard Jr., 78, of East Syracuse died Saturday. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Nottingham High School and attended Syracuse University. He retired in 1983 after 37 years at Carrier Corp. He was a pilot in the Army Air Forces during World War II. Survivors: His wife of 52 years, the former Helen Puchir; three daughters, Susan Seaton of Prescott, Ontario, Jean Grevelding of Jamesville and Patricia Dahlin of East Syracuse; a sister, Lucia Mitchell of Bear, Del.; four grandchildren. He retired in 1977 after 15 years as superintendent of the Slippery Rock (Pa.) School District. He was a communicant of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and member of the American Association of School Administrators and the Lions Club. His wife, the former Virginia Kurtz, died in 1996. He graduated from Warners High School and Central City Business Institute. He retired in 1994 as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in San Diego and had worked for Deluxe Lines in Syracuse. He was a member of Warners Fire Department for 23 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and received a Silver Star and Purple Heart. His first wife, the former Ruth E. Smith, died in 1990. Survivors: His wife of 10 years, the former Joyce A. Pacelli; two daughters, Cynthia E. Faddis of Eugene, Ore., and Dina M. Bird of Syracuse; a son, Dale D. of Smithsburg, Md.; a stepdaughter, Deborah A. Van Dewalker of Baldwinsville; two stepsons, Michael J. Ray of Baldwinsville and Scott T.
