Marion Grabowski

STAMFORD — Marion Grabowski, 79, died Sept. 24, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Marion was an area resident for 13 years.

She was the beloved wife of Alexander Grabowski, loving mother and mother-in-law, of Barbara and Louis Malandra of Central Islip, Ronald and Margie Grabowski of Smithtown; proud grandmother of seven; and great-grandmother of five. Also surviving are her brothers, Frank Wilson of Waverly, Glen Wilson of Angola; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home immediately following calling hours at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Elliot Oaks officiating.

Interment will take place on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton on Long Island.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Keith D. Gransbury

SELKIRK — Keith D. Gransbury Jr., 39, passed away suddenly on Sept. 24, 2003.

He was the son of Margaret Sands; stepson of Howard Sands; and the son of Keith D. Gransbury Sr.

Keith was a computer analyst for the Colony Liquor Dist. of Kingston and Albany.

He was a 3rd Degree Black Belt Tae Kwondo Instructor. He was a member of the Volleyball U.S.V.B.A. in Albany and the O.C. Ski Club Volleyball League.

Keith put himself through Fulton Montgomery Community College and S.U.N.Y. Albany, where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science.

Besides his parents, Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Francie DeSarno Gransbury. He is the loving father of Kale and Kaden Gransbury. He is the brother of Cheryl (Craig) Martin of California, and Trevor and Brian Sands, both of Pennsylvania; stepbrother of Douglas (Colette) Sands, David (Donna) Sands and Teresa (Scott) White. He was the son-in-law of Myrna DeSarno; brother-in-law of Robert and Cynthia Eichelman. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Durant Funeral Home, 17 Languish Place, across from the Stone Ends Restaurant, Glenmont.

Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Kale and Kaden Scholarship Fund, care of Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, 18 Computer Dr., E. Albany, NY 12205.

Mildred E. Hard

SIDNEY — Mildred E. Hard, 86, a resident of the Skilled Nursing Facility The Hospital, Sidney, and formerly of 32 Willow St., passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Sept. 23, 2003, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born June 22, 1917, in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Olive I. Knapp Hard.

For several years she worked in the Walton area.

She is survived by four sisters, Belva Wilson of Sidney, Inez McCumber of Sidney, Shirley Davidson of Sidney, and Phyllis McMullen of Bainbridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two brothers, Kenneth and Keith Hard predeceased Mildred.

Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until time of funeral and committal services at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Michael Shank, Vicar of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of her family in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Alton G. Scutt

CONESVILLE — Alton G. Scutt, 84, of 680 Bull Hill Road, Conesville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

He was born March 10, 1919, in Gilboa, the son of Burton H. and Winifred (Brainard) Scutt.

Alton married Mary Ellen Haner in Manorkill, on Nov. 16, 1940. She predeceased him on Nov. 26, 1998.

Alton was a lifelong resident and for a number of years owned and operated a small dairy farm.

In 1957, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 106 of Albany and was a member for 46 years.

He worked as a heavy equipment/master mechanic for various companies and on numerous construction projects in the area, including General Dynamics at the West Milton nuclear site, Interstate 88 and the Blenheim-Gilboa power project.

After retiring from construction, Alton sought public office and served as Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Conesville from 1988-1995.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Marjorie and Jim Stanton of Jefferson, Kendra and Don Cornell of Gilboa, Lawrence "Buz" and Emma Scutt of Leesville, La., and Randall Scutt of Sharon Springs; his grandchildren, Deborah Bendel of Lincoln Park, N.J., Paul Scutt of Rensselaerville, Luther Mount and Holly Scutt of Leesville, La., Christopher Putman of Middleburgh, Selena Putman of Bloomville, Zane Cornell and Lacey Cornell of Gilboa, Travis Cornell of Ft. Sill, Okla.; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Mominee of Colonie; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Alton was predeceased by sister, Evelyn Bailey, and his brother, Herbert "Pete" Scutt of New Port Richey, Fla.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Conesville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kristina Hansen, officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Manorkill Rural Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Alton's memory to the Conesville Rescue, Gilboa.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Joseph Manzer

OTEGO — Joseph Manzer Sr. "Lil Joe," 78, of River Street, Otego, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Joseph was born May 14, 1925, in Albany, where he resided most of his life.

He and his wife, Bernice ran Little Joe's Refuse for a number of years until his retirement. After his retirement he and Bernice moved to Otego.

Joe enjoyed collecting antique keys, coins and matchbox cars. He also enjoyed dining at local restaurants and socializing with local members of the community.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Bernice A. Manzer, on Feb. 16, 2001.

Since the loss of his wife he has devoted his life to his two schnauzers, Toby II and Max.

Joseph is survived by five children, Butch, Gracie, James, Joseph and Karen Manzer, all of the Albany area; two stepsons, George Minor and his wife, Jeannine of Oneonta, and Scott Stark and his wife, Tracey of Wisconsin; and many loving grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, the Rev. Craig Merritt, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, Otego, will officiate. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Otego Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Otego, NY 13825, in memory of Joe's wife, Bernice, to improve the "Bernie Room" (a room dedicated for the use of children).

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

David Harrington

GUILFORD — David Harrington, 68, of Shumway Hill Road, Guilford, and long-time Guilford resident, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 2003, at his home.

David was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Sidney Center, the son of Edward and Ethel (Edwards) Harrington. At the age of 8, David moved with his family from Sidney Center to Shumway Hill, where he attended the Mount Upton school. He continued to live on Shumway Hill for the rest of his life.

Serving his country during the Korean War, he was a cook in the U.S. Army

On May 25, 1957, he married Rosemarie Macumber Harrington who passed away Jan. 18, 1995.

Over the years, David was known as a man who loved to work. He drove a milk tanker for several area milk haulers and worked as a logger and operated a sawmill with his brother in Bainbridge. For about 12 years, David worked as a truck driver for the town of Guilford Highway Department, retiring in 1997.

David was a true fan of country and bluegrass music. Years ago, he would travel around to different schools with his children as a DJ doing record hops. He also enjoyed watching nature programs.

David is survived by his children, Roger Harrington and his wife, Heather, of Washington, Connie Pennington and her husband, Greg, of California, Md., Carol McGrath of Norwich, Rex Harrington and his wife, Janice, of Winfield, Kan., Cindy Redmond and her husband, Chris, of Ohio and Christina Winn and companion Tim Byrne of Greenville, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Also surviving are his sister, Araminta Fravel of Norwich, and his brothers, Paul Harrington and his wife, Kay, of Guilford and Robert Harrington and his wife, Bonnie, of Bainbridge. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Funeral services for David will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church, will officiate.

Internment with full military rites will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery of North Guilford.

Donald L. Gove

WESTFIELD, Mass. — Donald L. Gove Sr., 78, of Westfield, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born July 18, 1925, in Wentworth, N.H., son of the late Lewis W. and Pearl E. (Terpenning) Gove.

He attended local schools and graduated from Plymouth, N.H., High School.

He was employed as the plant engineer for Lane Construction Co. of Meriden, Conn., for 46 years, retiring in 1990.

Donald was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II as a member of the 244th Combat Engineers attached to the 3rd, 7th, and 9th Armies, serving in Northern France, Ardennes, Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Westfield and a member of the American Legion Post 124 in Westfield.

Donald leaves his wife of 55 years, Bernadette (Kasheta) Gove; one son, Donald L. Gove Jr. of Westfield and two daughters, Frances J. Stefanowich and her husband, Stanley W., of Westfield, and Susan J. Fortier of Stamford. He also leaves three brothers, Leigh D. Gove of High Gate Springs, Vt., Carl D. Gove of Tacoma, Wash., and Keith L. Gove of Hampden, Maine; and his sister, June E. Winsor of Rumney, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Michael Stefanowich and his wife, Stacy of Suffield, Conn., and Kristen Stefanowich of Manchester, Conn.

Donald was predeceased by an older brother, Leo Gove, and a son-in-law, Raymond L. Fortier of Stamford.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral will be Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church at 9:15 a.m.

Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Mass Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Agawam.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1111 Elm St., Suite 9A, West Springfield, MA 01089.

Rose J. Briguglio

ONEONTA — Rose J. Briguglio, of Oneonta, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, unexpectedly, at the Union Hospital in Union, N.J.

She was born in Astoria, L.I., the daughter of Andrea and Rose (Minerosa) Amarose.

She married Frank A. Briguglio Sr. on Oct. 19, 1941, in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta. He passed away on Nov. 15, 1998.

Rose was active with her husband in the operation of Eastern Steel and Metal Co. and Tri County Glass Corp..

She was a member of St. Mary's Church.

At one time, she was active in the former Junior Board of Fox Hospital, as well as the Otsego County Democratic Party.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frank A. and Kyle Briguglio Jr. of Stuart, Fla., and a granddaughter, Amy Briguglio of London, England.

Also surviving are two sisters, Carm Higgins and her husband, Tom, of Vestal, Nancy Smedira and her husband, Nick, of Endwell; a brother, Dr. Anthony Amarose of Chicago; an aunt, Mary Jubar of Oneonta, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Anthony N. Briguglio in 1991, and two sisters, Mary Dorazio and Vera Spadafora.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions may be made to Briguglio Family Foundation, 185 N.E. Edgewater Dr., Stuart, FL 34996, or to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.
