Owen H. Becker

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. — Owen H. Becker, 65, husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Hartmann) Becker of East Hampton, Conn., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Born in Syracuse, he was the son of Harry and Alice (Godard) Becker. He attended Syracuse schools and graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, with a BA degree in psychology.

He was employed by IBM Corp. for 29 years in human resources and personnel administration, retiring as site services manager in Essex Junction, Vt. In 1995, he joined Bank North Group of Burlington, Vt., and served as Executive Vice President of Administration for five years. He served as Chairman of the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce from 1997-1998, as well as serving on many business and community boards in Chittenden County, Vermont.

In addition to his wife, "Peggy," he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Janine Becker of Trumbull, Conn.; a son, Christopher Becker of Bridgeport; a daughter and her husband, Susan B. and Thomas Meotti of Glastonbury; a sister, Carol Jane Wilsey of Kendall; and six grandchildren, Alysse, Rachel and Jack Meotti of Glastonbury, and Julianne, Jennifer and Olivia Becker of Trumbull.

A procession will form at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpke., Glastonbury, CT 06033 at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003.

Roy C. Castle

SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. — Roy C. Castle Sr., 57, a retired factory worker for General Electric, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003.

Mr. Castle was born in Conesville, and came here from Delanson, in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Castle, Silver Springs; son, Roy Castle Jr., Delanson; daughter, Jodi Wilson, Clarksburg, W.Va.; brothers, Gene Castle and Kenneth Castle, both of Gilboa, Leonard Castle, Schoharie, and Dale Castle, Oneonta; sister, Clara Castle, Gilboa; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Florida Cremation Society, Ocala.

Marjorie I. Church

DELHI — Marjorie I. Church, 68, of Leisure Village, Delhi, a lifelong Delaware County resident, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.

The daughter of Horton A. and Florence M. (Tiffany) Tweedie, she was born June 30, 1935, in the town of Hamden, and married Robert F. Church Sr., Oct. 9, 1952, in Mundale.

A homemaker most of her life, "Marge" resided in Delhi for the past 28 years, where she was a nursing aid for 10 years at Countryside Care Center and, subsequently, a clerk at the former Brooks Drug Store.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Robert F. Church Sr.; five children, Patricia Church of Delhi, Joyce Warner of Sherburne, Robert Church Jr., Linda Moore and Malcolm Church, all of Walton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Arvella Goodrich, Loretta Davis, Thelma Brown and Phyliss Neale, all of Walton; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Carroll "Stub" Tweedie.

Friends are invited to call 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, by the Rev. Bert More, with burial following in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Memorial contributions to O'Connor Hospital Building Fund, Delhi, will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Alvin E. Harris

MILFORD — Mr. Alvin E. Harris, 77, of Milford, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003.

He was born in the town of Otego on Aug. 6, 1926, a son of Alva and Margaret (Carr) Harris.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford. Burial will follow in Milford Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Marjorie (Dolly) L. Hildenbrand

MIDDLEFIELD — Mrs. Marjorie (Dolly) L. Hildenbrand, 75, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at her home.

She was born April 19, 1928, in Catskill, the daughter of Herbert C. and Annabell (Pond) Plankenhorn.

On Nov. 19, 1946, she married John Hildenbrand in Westville. He predeceased her Oct. 15, 1992.

She moved to Middlefield at the age of 4 in 1932, where she remained a lifelong resident. She worked for many years as a waitress and retail clerk at businesses in the Cooperstown area. She left her trademark over many years by wallpapering numerous residences and commercial buildings throughout the Otsego area.

She was elected Town Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Middlefield for over 25 years, retiring in January 2001. Even though hours of operation were posted, her doors were always open to serve the public. She received a Public Service Award in 2000 from the League of Women Voters, Cooperstown Area.

With her husband, John, they opened the Pick-Up Grocery Store in 1982, closing the last grocery store to be operated in the Township of Middlefield in 1992, at the time of John's death.

Dolly was a forming member of the Middlefield VFD Auxiliary in 1955, and a lifelong member of the Middlefield Baptist Church, Middlefield.

Survivors include three sons, William and his wife, Brenda of Pollocksville, N.C., Bruce and his wife, Deborah of Milford, and Brian and his wife, Louise of Severn, Md.; a daughter, Melinda Christman and her husband, Alan of Westford; a sister, Marguerite Roberts of Saugerties; three aunts; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Kathleen (Kitty) Bridger and Betty Lowe.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the Middlefield Cemetery, Middlefield, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating. Burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Middlefield Cemetery Association, care of Harriet Bogardus, 100 Rezen Road, Roseboom, NY 13450.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Blanche D. Howard

PRATTSVILLE — Blanche Dibble Howard passed away Sept. 12, 2003, at Florida Hospital, Orange City, Fla.

She was born Sept. 16, 1905, in Prattsville, the daughter of William and Alice (Barnum) Dibble.

Blanche lived on the same farm she was born on, in Little West Kill, until she could no longer take care of herself.

She was a homemaker, always gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and helping with the farm work. She was a former Sunday School teacher and a faithful church member. For more than 50 years she wrote the Prattsville news for the Windham Journal.

She was predeceased by her husband, Julius Howard.

Blanche is survived by her son, Elwood Howard; daughter-in-law, Katherine Place Howard of De Leon Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Nancy Walker, Cindy Howard, both of De Leon Springs, and William and his wife, Lori Kellerhouse Howard of Grand Gorge. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren: James Dickerson and Jeremy of De Leon Springs, Alec Howard, Sierra Howard and Kerrigan Howard, all of Grand Gorge.

Blanche was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She gave freely of her time to her family, friends and neighbors.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

"Grandma," you will always be loved and cherished.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington, with the Rev. Elliott Oaks officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under direction of William A. Tari.

Jean B. Tremper

MARYLAND — Jean Beaulieu Tremper, 81, of Maryland, died at her home on Sept. 30, 2003.

She was born March 28, 1922, in Oneonta, to Joseph and Lillian Young Beaulieu.

Jean attended and graduated from Oneonta High School.

After a courtship of 31/2 years due to World War II, she and Charles Norman Tremper were married in Oneonta, on Jan. 20, 1946.

Jean worked for Wilber National Bank in the trust department, as window decorator for J.C. Penney Co., and secretary and real estate salesperson at Frank Fatta Real Estate before she and her husband, Charles opened Tremper's Real Estate, which they ran until retirement in 1987.

Jean was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oneonta and was active in the Elizabeth Women's Circle acting as their treasurer for 24 years. She was also a member of AARP and the Otsego County Seniors Group.

She enjoyed dining out, socializing and playing cards with family and friends. During her quieter times, she would do crafts, flower gardening and sewing, everything from doll clothes to Christmas tree skirts for family members.

Jean is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; her 2 daughters, Constance (Connie) Lee Schiliro of Portsmouth, R.I., and Sharon Marie Rumenapp of Oneonta; four grandchildren, David Rumenapp, Christian Rumenapp, Marc Schiliro and wife Jamie, and Karyn Schiliro; one great-granddaughter, Madisyn Mello; sister, Doris Gallagher of Oneonta; and special friends, Janet and Gary Woodrow.

Jean was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth B. Molineux and Virginia Simpkins.

Calling hours with the family will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, by the Rev. Thomas Clemow. Interment will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Jean's honor to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

JoAnn Dumond

WALTON — JoAnn Dumond, a lifelong Walton resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. She was 62.

Mrs. Dumond was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Walton, to Oscar and Anna Hood Cleaver.

She was married to Richard Dumond, who survives.

She was a Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Walton Fire Department.

Mrs. Dumond will be remembered for being a loving and caring mother, always supportive of her husband and family, a good friend to many and just an amazing woman.

JoAnn Dumond is survived by her husband, Richard, at home in Walton; children, Dawn and husband David Davis, Richard Dumond Jr. and Jeff Dumond; and grandchildren, Lindsay Dumond, Scott B. Davis and Tyler Davis.

The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Carroll Cemetery in Trout Creek, with Pastor Carl Butler, of the Pines Brook Community Church, Walton, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 356 N. Midler Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206 would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, Walton.

Marian L. Butler

DELHI — Marian Leslie Butler, 94, a lifetime resident of Delhi, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born on March 17, 1909, the daughter of Thomas and Edith (Jenks) Leslie.

She married George C. Butler on March 27, 1951, in Delhi. He predeceased her on April l, 1985.

A 1929 graduate of Delaware Academy, Marian was employed as a bookkeeper at the Delaware National Bank of Delhi. She was also a secretary at the Delhi 4-H Camp Shankitunk.

Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi. She was church organist for many years as well as a member of the church choir, church bell choir and the Presbyterian Women's Association. She and her husband also enjoyed membership in the former Watauga Chapter 315 O.E.S. and Willowemac Chapter 304 O.E.S. of Walton.

Marian was a wonderful person and a great friend to the following people: George Davis, Jeanette and Ed DeWitt, Barbara and Ron Geywitz, Isabelle and Susan Freer and many more too numerous to mention.

Marian lived at her home on Orchard Street most all of her life and was the best neighbor anyone could ever have. She was like family to Chester and Shirley McAdams and the only grandmother Kim and Kelly ever knew.

Much thanks to Robinson Terrace and its staff for the wonderful care they provided.

Friends may call at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, on Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Miriam Hathaway officiating.

Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

A luncheon in Marion's memory will follow the Tuesday services in the church hall.

Contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi, Delhi Fire Department and the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, P.O. Box 88, Delhi NY 13753.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.
