Vicki L. Holdener

MARGARETVILLE — Vicki L. Holdener, 50, of Margaretville passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital in Margaretville.

Vicki was born on Oct. 17, 1953, in Freeport, the daughter of Carl Wallman and Catherine Parker.

She married Thomas W. Holdener on Dec. 9, 1973, in Freeport.

Vicki graduated from Freeport High School in 1972. She moved to Margaretville in 1987.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Holdener; one son, Thomas W. Holdener Jr.; two daughters, Mary Catherine Holdener and Christina Holdener Amundsen; two grandchildren, Steven and Devin Amundsen; her mother and father, Carl and Catherine Wallman; two sisters, Susan Lamphier and Terry Linton; three nieces; and one aunt and uncle.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service by the family at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Committal services will be private.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Margaretville Memorial Hospital Ambulance Fund.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Robert Clark

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Robert Clark, 84, formerly of Rosewood Terrace Adult Care Facility on Gould Street, entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2003, in Eden Park Nursing Home, Cobleskill.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1919, in Lewis County, where he was raised, educated and was employed at one time.

He moved to Richfield Springs in 2000, and has resided in Cobleskill since July 2002.

At Robert's request, his funeral service and interment will be private.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs.

William P. English

MORRIS — William P. English, 69, of Morris passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born in Centereach, on July 3, 1934, the son of Michael Francis English and Florence V. (Callan) English.

He married Barbara (Bryant) Tommasini on Dec. 17, 1977, in Aquebogue. They were formerly of Mattituck. He was employed by Grumman Aerospace of Calverton, as a production control supervisor for over 30 years.

Bill enjoyed pen and ink sketching, woodworking and was an avid reader.

He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Morris Rotary Club as well as a member of the DAV, national Chapter, and the "Man to Man" group of Bassett Healthcare.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of Morris. He was the loving father of Wendy Gajowski and husband Mark, Paula D'arienzo, Michael Flora, Patrick English, Nancy Tommasini and husband Gary, and Robert Tommasini. He was the loving grandfather of Mark Gajowski, Gregory Gajowski, Michael Flora, Steven Tommasini, Amanda D'arienzo, Ryan English, Aaron Plotke and Rachael Plotke.

He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Renate, Colette and Phyllis English; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

A wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Burns officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Hillington Cemetery, Morris.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Elizabeth Connolly

EAST MEREDITH — Elizabeth M. Connolly, 82, of East Meredith passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at her residence.

Born on June 14, 1921, in Stony Point, she was one of 11 children born to William and Grace (Johnson) Stalter.

She was married to Arthur Connolly Sr., and he predeceased her on Aug. 10, 1992.

Prior to her retirement, Betty worked as a secretary for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River for many years.

She is survived by a sister, Thelma Connolly of West Nyack; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Arthur Connolly Jr. in 1998.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, NY 13820, with the Rev. Kenneth Baldwin officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Charlotte Valley Cemetery, West Davenport.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home at which time the family will be in attendance.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Helen Bautochka

SHARON SPRINGS — Mrs. Helen Bautochka, 78, of State Route 145 in the town of Sharon, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, after a short illness.

Born in South Amboy, N.J., Mrs. Bautochka was a 1943 graduate of Hoffman High School in South Amboy.

She was a longtime resident of Schoharie County and had lived in Sharon Springs since 1959.

For 20 years, Mrs. Bautochka owned and operated the Sharon Tavern with her husband, Michael Bautochka Sr. They retired together after selling the business in 1979.

Since 1971, Mrs. Bautochka was a member of the Canajoharie Chapter of the Women of the Moose No. 987. She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks in Cobleskill.

Her husband, Michael Bautochka Sr., whom she married Oct. 10, 1943, died in 1994.

Survivors include one son, Michael Bautochka Jr. of Rochester; three daughters, Anna Bautochka of Sharon Springs, Kathy Venette of Sharon Springs, and Patricia Maher of Cicero; two sisters, Elizabeth Combs of Warren, Mich., and Anna Krutel of East Brunswick, N.J.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Lappeus Funeral Home, 113 Park St., Sharon Springs. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Spring burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad, in care of Mr. Steven DiCicco, PO Box 154, Sharon Springs, NY 13459.

Helmut Schulz

OTEGO — Mr. Helmut "Joe The Blueberry Man" Schulz, 82 years of age, of Otego died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at his residence.

He was born March 17, 1921, in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Bruno and Herta (Bitterlich) Schulz.

Joe grew up in Apalachin, and moved to the Endicott area in his early years. He later moved to Staten Island where he drove truck for the Laverna Fuel Company retiring in 1982. After his retirement he was a security guard in the New York City area before moving to the Otsdawa in Otego where he and his close companion, Rose Podesta owned and operated the Blueberry Farm.

Joe was a Merchant Marine from 1951-1956.

He is survived by one son, David Schulz of Newark Valley; one daughter, Herta Haltiner of Erie, Pa.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; as well as many friends.

Joe was predeceased by his parents and his close companion, Rose Podesta.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Allison Jay Bookhout, Catskill Area Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be held in the spring in the Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Helmut "Joe The Blueberry Man" Schulz.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Donna E. Lent

AFTON — Donna E. Lent, 59, of Afton passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

She was born April 29, 1944, daughter of the late Clyde and Bette (Cornwell) Farrington in Deposit. Donna graduated from Deposit Central School in 1962.

She married Douglas Lent on March 24, 1978, in Afton. She was employed as an aide in the computer lab for the Afton Central School for 17 years.

Donna loved to Country line dance; she taught classes in the area for many years and even choreographed a few herself. One that was especially popular is for the song "Blue" performed by Lee Ann Rimes. She was also a member of the Nineveh Presbyterian Church.

Donna is survived by her husband, Douglas Lent, Afton; her son, Robert Lent and his wife, Patricia of Oneonta; seven daughters, Denise Smith and Richard Porter, Afton, Tina Stanton, Virginia, Colleen Hayes and her husband, Johnny, North Carolina, Kim Dodd and her husband, Tom, Afton, Karen Eldred and Samuel Nichols, Cooperstown, Christa Stevens and Courtney Westcott, Binghamton, and Lisa Lent and Matt Tanner, Afton; her sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Jim Barnes, Mount Upton; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Carol and Bobby Knapp, Afton, Doug Stevens, Afton; stepbrother, Gary, Deposit; stepsister, Gail, Deposit.

Friends may call Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral and committal services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the funeral chapel at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas Horne, pastor of the Nineveh Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial contributions may be made in Donna's name to the Nineveh Presbyterian Church.

Betty M. Roberts

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Betty M. Roberts, 73, of State Highway No. 28, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her bedside.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in the town of Burlington, daughter of the late Harold and Alice Mae Jenkins Pierce.

A lifelong area resident, she was educated in Basswood and Richfield Springs schools.

On March 13, 1949, she married Charles E. Roberts in Waterville. Mrs. Roberts had worked as a seamstress in various clothing manufacturers in Richfield Springs and Herkimer, retiring in 1972.

She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Old Stone Church in Schuyler Lake. In her leisure time she found great pleasure in reading and knitting.

To Betty, her family was foremost. She found great joy in the care and nurturing of being a devoted wife and mother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She filled her family's lives with happiness and sweet memories that will stay in their hearts forever.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Charles "Pat" Roberts; one son, Charles E. Roberts Jr.; three daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Jon Grogan, Peggy and Thomas Dziadik, Virginia and Randy Nabinger, all of Richfield Springs; one sister, Laura Poulson of Cobleskill; 12 grandchildren, Brett Slocum, Kenneth Duncan, Casie Coley, Charles E. Roberts III, Jaclyn Roberts, Tanya Coley, Laura Duncan, Leah Duncan, Robert Coley, Joanna Onyan, Cory Grogan and Randy Lee Nabinger; three great-grandchildren; several in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, three sisters, Mildred Bowen, Lillian Cornell and Virginia Fassett, and three brothers, Eugene, Harry and Charles Pierce, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in. J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Young officiating.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Roberts will be laid to rest in Schuyler Lake Cemetery next spring.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dorothy Robinson

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — Dorothy L. "Dee" Robinson, 47, passed away Dec. 9, 2003, entering her Lord's heavenly home following a brief illness at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.

Dorothy was born May 21, 1956, in Oneonta, to Stanley and Lorraine (Soules) Cole.

Dorothy married Lyle Robinson of Davenport on Feb. 14, 1997, in Laughlin, Nev.

Dorothy graduated in 1973 from Unatego Central School and in 1977 from the State University College at Oneonta with a degree in teaching. She worked for many years at Corning Corp. in Oneonta before retiring and moving to Arizona.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lyle, of Bullhead City; two sons, Eric Smith and Adam Smith of Zebulon, N.C.; mother, Lorraine Cole, Otego; brother, Michael Cole of Baltimore, Md.; paternal grandmother, Margaret L. Cole of Sidney; aunt, Frances Baciuska, Afton; two uncles, Clinton Soules, Sidney, and Roger Cole of Largo, Fla.; two great-aunts, Ruth Germond of Sidney, and Mildred Austin of Cortland; five stepchildren, Paula, Tracy, Stacy, Lyle Jr. and Mark Robinson; several stepgrandchildren; as well as many relatives and friends.

Dorothy was predeceased by her father and three grandparents.

A memorial celebration of Dorothy's life will be held in the spring, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Otego.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838.
