Paul E. Pendergast, 86, of River Road, Phoenix, died Friday at Andrew Michaud Nursing Home, Fulton. Born in Syracuse, he attended Phoenix schools. He retired after several years in the maintenance department at Nestle in Fulton. He attended St. Stephen's Church and was a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Onondaga County Farm Bureau and the New York State Draft Horse Club and was a Democratic committeeman for Lysander. Survivors: His wife of 62 years, the former Gertrude Wojcik; two daughters, Carolyn Fairbanks and Rosemary Narewski, both of Phoenix; a son, Stephen J. of Peru; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Services: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church. Burial, Pendergast Cemetery. Gertrude K. Swerdlow

Gertrude Katz Swerdlow, 86, of 521 Hillsboro Parkway, Syracuse, died Saturday. Born in Chicago, she was a Syracuse resident since 1957. She also lived in France, Burma, India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Micronesia. She graduated from Syracuse University. She was a senior economist and a professor of economics at Onondaga Community College, retiring in 1976. She was co-founder of Families against Cancer and a consultant to the National Cancer Institute. She attended Temple Adath Yeshurun and was one of the recipients of The Post-Standard's Achievement Awards in 1994. Her husband, Irving, died in 1992; a son, Dr. Paul, died in 1985. Survivors: A daughter, Dr. Joby Swerdlow of Manlius; a son, Dr. Joel of  Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren. Services: Noon Tuesday at Temple Adath Yeshurun. Burial, Adath Yeshurun Cemetery. He was a drywall finisher, first for Truax and Hovey and then was self-employed. She had worked at the former Conn's Knitting Mill, Oswego, and was a member of State Street United Methodist Church in Fulton. Three sons died previously, Ronald in 1992, William in 1997 and Charles in 1999. Frederick R. "Ted" Platt, 83, of Brown Street, Elbridge, died Monday. He was a life resident of Elbridge. He had worked at Merchants Bank and Platt & Tweedie in Elbridge and retired in 1987 from Hillyard Floor Treatment Co. He was mayor of the village of Elbridge for 27 years and served on the board of directors of Skaneateles Savings Bank. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife of 59 years, the former Mary Scullion, died in 2001. Survivors: Four daughters, Karen P.  White of Elbridge, Terry Brown of Minoa, Marcia Holbrook of Skaneateles Falls and Meghan Platt of Skaneateles; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She retired in 1987 as an assembler with General Electric in Liverpool after 42 years. She was a member of Trach-Auringer Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7325 Auxiliary in Constantia and Raymond Faulkner-Cook American Legion Post 858 Auxiliary in Cleveland. She had attended Central Square Wesleyan Church. Her husband, Francis DiGeorge Sr., died in 1976. She was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader for several years. Her husband, Bernard A., died in 1993.
