Margaret A. Scott

DELHI — Margaret A. Scott of Delhi died Dec. 23, 2003, at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.

She was born May 5, 1932, in Hudson, to Barent Hoysradt and Florence Paris VanValkenburgh.

Margaret started college at Vassar then transferred to SUNY at Delhi, getting an associate degree in food service management. She then taught for several years at SUNY in the 1960s and 1970s.

Margaret married Tracy Matthews in Otsego on May 30, 1989, and he predeceased her in October 1992.

Margaret attended the Delhi Community Church, was stage manager for Victory Players and involved in several productions at various locations. She loved bingo, dancing with her square dance club and was an avid flower gardener.

Margaret loved traveling to everywhere, Scotland, England and other parts of Europe, and her favorite were cruises to Alaska, Panama Canal and anywhere in the Caribbean.

Margaret is survived by her children, Wayne H. Yorganson and wife, Shirley, of Hartwick, Glenda D. Yorganson-Ford and husband, Stewart Ford, of Huntersville, N.C., and Leslie L. Van Zandt and husband, Cliff, of Davenport; grandchildren, Mathew Yorganson, Michael Van Zandt, Krystle Knapp, Bryan Yorganson, Andrew Van Zandt and Joseph Van Zandt; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and son C. Eric Yorganson and granddaughter, Tabitha Yorganson.

Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Delhi Community Church with the Rev. Paul Meisel officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Memorial donations may be made in Margaret's memory to either the American Cancer Society or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Edith E. Earl

SIDNEY — Edith E. Earl, 82, a former lifelong resident of Otego before moving to Sidney in 1985, died Dec. 24, 2003, in Binghamton.

Edith was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Otego, to Sherman B. and Elizabeth C. Callahan Lent.

She graduated from Otego Central School Class of 1939. She then attended Oneonta Business School.

Edith married Everett E. Earl on May 24, 1940, in Syracuse. He predeceased her Nov. 6, 2000, after 60 years of marriage.

In the 1960s Edith worked at Bendix in Sidney and then devoted her energy full-time to being a homemaker.

She was a Baptist with membership at Wells Bridge Baptist Church and having attended First Baptist Church, Bainbridge.

Edith was an avid letter writer and never forgot birthdays, anniversaries or special occasions of family or friends.

Edith was a loving mother to Wayne E. Earl of Oneonta, Terry Earl and wife, Catherine, of Oneonta, and Gary Earl and wife, Sherry, of Unadilla. She was the loving grandmother to Rodney Earl, Jacqueline Earl, Shawn Earl, Todd Earl, Aimee Dunn, Jonathan Earl and Angela Vernon; and also seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Grace Lent; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother, Ralph Lent.

At her request, there are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Otego Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Edith's memory to Catskill Area Hospice or Upstate Home for Children and Adults in Milford.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Joyce E. Brazee

NEW BERLIN — Joyce Elizabeth Brazee, 70 years old, of New Berlin died Dec. 23, 2003, in Norwich.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1933, in Binghamton, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Knauer) Harris.

She married Ralph Brazee Sr. on April 7, 1951. He predeceased her Oct. 13, 1999.

She spent her childhood in Oxford and attended Oxford Academy.

Joyce enjoyed crocheting and donated much of her work to raise money for the New Berlin Youth Days and other community fund-raisers.

Joyce is survived by her children, George Allen and Michelle Brazee, Pittsfield, Myrna and Frank Simonds, Texas, Ralph (Yogi) and Linda Brazee, West Burlington, Kitty and Mike Wilcox, Sherburne; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Anna Brazee Platta on July 22, 1996.

She worked for Tacco making television antennas before retiring in 1974.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to Long Term Home Health Care of Chenango County.

George J. Haddad

BAINBRIDGE — George John Haddad, born Jan. 18, 1928, in Waterbury, Conn., died on Christmas, Dec. 25, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

He was the son of John and Almazza (Naim) Haddad, who pre-deceased him.

George was a longtime resident of Bainbridge, having moved there from Brookfield, Conn., in 1970.

George was in Waterbury, Conn., and lived in Danbury and Brookfield, Conn., for many years. He attended elementary schools and Henry Abbott Technical Schools in Danbury. He stopped his schooling to work and help provide for his family. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17, attended Basic Training at Parris Island, S.C., and served in the Occupation of China at the end of WWII.

He married Shirley Kierkegaard on June 2, 1949, and resided in Brookfield, Conn., from 1950 until 1970.

He was a member of the Brookfield Sportsman's Club. George was also a longtime firefighter with the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department, rising to chief prior to his move to New York. In Brookfield, he started Progressive Auto Service with his brother-in-law Grant Pope and ran that business until his purchase of a dairy farm in Bainbridge in 1970.

He and Shirley decided that farming would be a great way to raise their family and they spent the next 20 years actively involved in the dairy operation and selling of farm equipment. George used his mechanical skills on the farm and his carpentry and masonry skills constructing several buildings and two homes with his sons over the years. He retired from farming in 1990.

He had been active in the Bainbridge community serving on the B-G Schoo1 District Budget Advisory Committee, the Bainbridge Town Tax Assessment Grievance Board and was a past member of the Bainbridge Rotary Club. For many years he was on the board of directors of the Eastern Milk Producers Cooperative Association lnc., serving as treasurer until his retirement. He received a Distinguished Service award in 1989 from the milk coop for his work as delegate and treasurer. George was also was on the board of directors of the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council Inc.

More recently he was an active member of the Susquehanna/Afton Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Bainbridge and maintained a 40-year membership with Union Lodge No. 40 of the F.&A.M. in Connecticut. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Danbury, Conn.

In recent years, George spent his time enjoying his family and friends, attending auctions, playing cribbage and pinochle, playing dice and watching Westerns.

George and Shirley traveled here and overseas following their retirement. George particularly enjoyed visits with family in Lebanon and Germany. He was a great cook and liked nothing better than feeding his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Haddad and five children, daughter Kathleen of Bainbridge, son Gerald and his wife, Patti, and their children Leslie, Sara, and Eric of Bainbridge, daughter Penny of Syracuse, son John and Chris Crave of Bainbridge, and Timothy and wife, Robin, and daughter Gina of Bainbridge.

He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Sadie and Grant Pope of New Milford, Conn.; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Georgette Haddad of Waterbury, Conn.

He is also survived by his Uncle Labib Naim of Lebanon and cousins, Richard and Mary Antous of Danbury, Conn., and John and Elham Naim of Danbury, Conn.

Numerous cousins, nephews and nieces here in the USA and overseas also survive him.

He was predeceased by a sister Lorraine Trotta and brothers Fred and Abraham.

There will be no calling hours. Friends may call on the family at the farm in Bainbridge.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Bainbridge United Methodist Church on North Main Street.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department and its Emergency Squad, Susquehanna/Afton Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, Bainbridge United Methodist Church or St. Ann's Catholic Church in Danbury, Conn.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dorothy Memorial Home of Afton and Bainbridge.

William E. Ward

BAINBRIDGE — William Edgar Ward, 89, of Bainbridge, passed away in St. Cloud, Fla., on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003.

A life-long resident of Bainbridge, he was born Sept. 14, 1914, the son of Edgar C. Ward, and Celia Corbin Ward.

He married Erma McCumber on Sept. 20, 1947.

He was employed at Bendix in Sidney, retiring in 1978, after 43 years.

He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Bainbridge; a lifetime member of Sidney Elk Lodge No. 2175; member of the Algonquin Grange; past master and 50-plus year member of the Bainbridge Masonic Lodge; and a lifetime member of the International Aerospace and Machinists Union in Sidney.

Through the years, Bill enjoyed flying a plane, his snowmobile, fishing, hunting, reading, traveling, including many trips to Canada and Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Erma; one son, William Ward Jr. and wife, Martha, of Bainbridge; grandchildren, R. Jeffery Ward of Lancaster, Louann Roberts of West Windsor, Gregory Ward of Chenango Forks, Karen Smith of Preble, Douglas Ward of Homer, Shawn Ward of Scott; and great-grandchildren Brian Curtis, Jason Curtis, Courtney Ward, Jeremiah Ward, Crystal Smith, and Merton Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Helen Francis Ward; his son, Ronald Lavern Ward; granddaughter, Janet Ward, grandson; Scott Ward; and great-grandson, Brandon Ward.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial and Masonic

service will be held at the Landers Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28.

Those who wish, may call at the funeral home at their convenience. The family will be in attendance for the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Patricia M. Barnes

SIDNEY — Patricia Moran Barnes, 85, of Sidney, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at her home.

She was born March 17, 1918, daughter of the late George E. and Mary T. (Newman) Moran in Sherburne.

Pat graduated from Sherburne High in 1935 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the College of St. Rose in 1939.

She was employed by The Hospital in Sidney as a Registered Nurse when she retired in March of 1976.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney.

She is survived by her husband, S. William Barnes, of Sidney; one son and daughter-in-law, William S. and Debra Barnes, of Sidney; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Stephen DeLap of California, Anne and Eric Bernstein of Washington, Catherine and Craig Spinning of Oregon, Joan and Dean Mather of Endicott; one sister, Grace Davidson of Sherburne; one brother-in-law, Donald Barnes of Syracuse; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Nell Barnes of Binghamton and Kathryn E. Barnes of Ithaca; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Barnes was predeceased by a sister, Mary Wickham, and a great-grandson.

Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 28. The family will be in attendance from 5 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 121 Main St., Sidney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Liberty Street, Sidney. The Rev. Gordon Polenz, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Malachy's Cemetery in Sherburne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney (Endowment Fund), the Sidney Emergency Squad, River Street, Sidney, or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
