Frederick S. VanWinkler

SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Frederick S. VanWinkler, 65, of Springfield Center, passed away at Bassett Healthcare on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.

He was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Springfield Center, the son of Steven and Ethel Mae (Butts) VanWinkler.

On June 7, 1958, he married Beverley Wightman in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cooperstown. She survives.

Mr. VanWinkler worked for years on highway construction. One such project was State Highway 80. He also was an avid fisherman.

Besides his wife, Beverley VanWinkler, of Springfield Center, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Lisa of Richfield Springs, Jeffrey and Cheryl Burtch of Milford; a daughter Shelly VanWinkler of Albany; and grandchildren, Tia, Taylor, Kaitlin and Kyle VanWinkler; brothers Vernon and his wife, Barbara, VanWinkler of Afton, Steven and Sharon VanWinkler of Saratoga Springs, Edward VanWinkler of Cedarville, David VanWinkler of Springfield Center, and a sister May Gregory of California.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with Father John Roos officiating.

Burial will take place in the Springfield Center Cemetery in the spring.

There will be no public calling hours but a gathering will be held immediately following the funeral service at the East Springfield Fire House.

Contributions in Mr. VanWinkler's memory may be made to the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home Cherry Valley.

Anna Dohse

SIDNEY — Anna (Fucci) Dohse, 84, of Sidney, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, following a long illness.

She was born May 11, 1919, in Cadosia, where she was raised. The daughter of the late Dominic Fucci and Orsula (Esce) Fucci, she was a graduate of Hancock High School in Hancock.

Anna was also a graduate of the Southern Tier Beauty Academy in Binghamton. She owned and operated a beauty parlor in Deposit in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Anna also worked as a beautician in Sidney in the early 1940s. She began working at the Sidney Central School cafeteria in 1958 and retired in 1984 as the head cook.

Anna was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Sidney and a member of the church Rosary Society. She was a former member of the Sidney BPW. She was a member of the town election board.

She was the wife of the late Howard C. Dohse, who died in July 1987. They married in Albany on June 3, 1945.

She is survived by one son, Dennis R. Dohse and his wife, Cynthea C., Dohse of Brewster, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, on Monday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heath Church, Sidney, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Internment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney,

Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Rose Pearl Waring

KEESEVILLE — Rose Pearl Waring, 77, of the Port Douglas Road, Keeseville, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had resided since May of 2002.

She was born in Neversink, Sept. 5, 1926, the daughter of Arlie J. and Eva Sutherland.

Rose attended Hartwick College in Oneonta and resided there for many years.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, flowers, music and dancing.

Survivors include her loving and devoted companion, Walter "Jim" Hubble of Lansing, Mich., with whom she resided in North Palm Beach, Fla., for 23 years; two daughters and one son-in-law, Constance and Richard Thomas Jr. of Keeseville, and Victoria Waring of Mount Ida, Ark.; one son, David Warring of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Warren Odell of Oneonta; a granddaughter and fiance, Erin DeLacy and Kenneth Eckhardt of AuSable Forks; grandson and fiance, Brian DeLacy and Amber Smart of AuSable Forks; a stepgrandson and fiance, Richard Thomas III and Jessica Howerton of Keeseville; a stepgranddaughter, Leeann Thomas, currently serving aboard the USS John F. Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 101 Broad St., Sibley Hall, Suite 227, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Dorothy R. Daniels

WALTON — Dorothy R. Daniels, a lifelong area resident, formerly of Walton, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi, where

she had been residing. She was 87.

Dorothy R. Daniels was born on Aug. 10, 1916, in Rock Rift to Charles and Elsie Greenman Kelsey.

She married Frank R. Daniels in Walton on June 25, 1936. He predeceased her on June 25, 1985.

Mrs. Daniels was known as "The Avon Lady." She enjoyed participating in Senior Meals and Thursday night Bingo.

She especially enjoyed doing things for her grandchildren and she will be remembered for

her sense of humor and love of life.

She was a member of the WiIlowemoc Chapter 302, Order of Eastern Star, for more than 50 years.

Dorothy R. Daniels is survived by her sons Lyle, and his wife, Dorothy, Daniels, Dean, and his wife, Barbara, Daniels; a daughter, Linda Smith, all of Walton; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by four sisters and a brother.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, Dec. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware Streets, Walton.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at Lyon Bros-Way Inc. Funeral Home with Pastor Delbert Ripley officiating.

A private burial will be held in the Walton Cemetery.

James Henry Davie

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — James Henry Davie, 96, of Oregon Ave., St. Cloud, Fla., died Thursday Nov. 27, 2003, at Plantation Bay Health Care.

He was a retired D&H Railroad worker in Oneonta.

Born in Schenectady, he also owned a feed and coal business in Oriskany Falls.

He was a longtime resident of Central Florida having moved there from Oneonta. During the war he was the Civil Defense Director of Oneida County. He was very active in Rotary International, achieving the position of District Governor from 1969 to 1970. He was a member of the Nazarene Church of St. Cloud.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Davie, of St. Cloud; sons J. Henry Davie Jr. of Spencer, Richard (Dick) Davie of Hamilton; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; and 31 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Mr. Davie was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion, and second wife, Mildred; daughter Dorothy, and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were Dec. 7 at St. Cloud Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Myron Sartin officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Cloud.

Alice E. Retsis

ROXBURY — Alice E. "Lee" Retsis, 64, of Roxbury, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at her home in Roxbury.

She was born Dec. 23, 1939, in Milton, Mass., to Walter F. and Elizabeth Burke.

Lee was raised in Milton, Mass., attended St. Agatha Parochial School and Milton High School. She was an expert travel agent and spent many years sending others on their dream vacations.

Lee was a special friend to the students of Roxbury Central School, especially Science Olympiad, because she planned their accommodations. She felt a lot of pride in the children's accomplishments. Lee spent several years as Aretha Franklin's road manager.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Margaretville.

Lee is survived by a brother, Walter F. Burke of Milton, Mass.; her devoted friend, Helen Minier; and a cousin, Carolyn Brumburgh.

Calling hours will be Monday, Dec. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Margaretville. The Very Rev. James J. McDevitt, will be the celebrant.

Burial will be Milton Cemetery, Milton, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Arthur L. Archambault

SIDNEY — Arthur Leo Archambault Jr., 53, of Sidney passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born Aug. 21, 1950, son of Arthur L. and Dorothea (Hall) Archambault Sr. in Suffern.

Through ARC, Arthur worked for Resources for Industry in Walton.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 277 in Sidney and was an active bowler. Arthur was such an avid pro wrestling fan that he went to Las Vegas to see a premiere match.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dorothea and Richard DeYoung, Sidney; brother, Mark Archambault, Sidney; stepbrother, Richard and Carol DeYoung III, Brookfield, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Jessica and Andrew Hinkley, Unadilla, Eric Archambault, Sidney, Lori Archambault, Sidney; and several other nieces and nephews and friends in Sidney.

Arthur's father predeceased him on March 1, 1959.

Friends may call Friday, Jan. 2, 2004. The family will be in attendance from 5 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Moose Lodge No. 277, Sidney, will hold a service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney, will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to ARC — RFI, Route 206, 190 Prospect Ave., Walton, NY 13856.

Carrie W. Keto

ONEONTA — Carrie W. Keto, 87 years, of Oneonta died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of Einar and Elsie (White) Wickholm.

On June 28, 1941, Carrie married Jouko Waldemar Keto at Emmons Farm.

Carrie was a secretary and retired from SUCO in 1982. Prior to working at SUCO, she was the secretary at the First United Methodist Church, the Farone Law Office as well as several other area businesses.

She was a member of the League of Women's Voters; the Democratic Committee; the Golden Alumni at SUCO; and the Legal Secretary Association. Carrie was a volunteer at Catskill Area Hospice. During the elections she would watch the poles as people voted. She enjoyed art and was also a volunteer for the Council of Arts and would watch over the art gallery.

She loved to travel and go to Broadway Theater Productions. Carrie enjoyed tracing her Finnish background and traveled to Finland four times. Every year a Finnish Festival was held, and Carrie was fortunate enough to have attended each of the festivals except one since they began.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jouko Waldemar "Wally" Keto, of Oneonta; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Lucy Keto of Cooperstown Junction and Ronald and Celeste Keto of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Joseph Keto, Cricket Keto, John Keto and Tammy Segar, all of Oneonta; two great-grandchildren, Codi and Dustin Keto of Oneonta; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ray Keto of Pennsylvania; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carrie was predeceased by one brother, Harold Wickholm.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be held in the spring in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 116 Main St., Delhi, NY 13753 in loving memory of Carrie W. Keto.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
