Louis D. Aulicino
BOVINA — Louis D. Aulicino, 65, of Bovina died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.
He was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Astoria, the son of Louis and Christina (Spierto) Aulicino.
He married Amelia Scerbo on June 7, 1958, in Astoria.
Mr. Aulicino was a custom carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper, teaching educational courses on trapping for the New York State Trappers Association. Golf was his favorite sport.
Devoted to his family, he is survived by his wife, Amelia, in Bovina; a son, Louis J. Aulicino of Oneonta, and his fiancee, Jennifer Carr, and children, also of Oneonta; a granddaughter, Emily Christina Aulicino; two sisters, a sister-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Bovina, with Father Jason Catania officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in the Bovina Cemetery, Bovina Center.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Bovina Emergency Squad.

Alton C. Cole
TREADWELL — Alton C. Cole, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.
Alton was born June 2, 1912, on West Platner Brook, Delhi, to Henry and Anna Smith Cole. He was the youngest of eight children.
Alton married his loving wife, Elizabeth Currie, on July 22, 1939.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Alton operated a milk hauling business, owned and operated a school bus to A.L. Kellogg School, a bus transporting employees to Scintilla in Sidney during World War II, and also the Treadwell Garage. In the mid-1940s, Alton and Warren Weerheim started the Treadwell Lumber Company, manufacturing hardwood lumber, which they owned and operated until the mill burned in 1969. After the fire, Alton owned and managed a wholesale division of the company until his retirement in 1980, when he sold the business to his son James.
Alton served for many years on the A.L. Kellogg School Board, as well as the Board of the Western Delaware BOCES. He served as a Delaware County Republican Committeeman and was a charter member of the Delhi College Golf Course, which he joined in April 1964. Alton was a member of the Oneonta Elks Club since 1944, and a member of the West Delhi Presbyterian Church.
Alton is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Cole; sons, James (Barbara) of Wells Bridge and Robert (Joan) of King William, Va.; grandchildren, Sharon Cole, Juliann Cole, Melissa Ferguson, Thomas Goodrich, Glenna (Patrick) Carey, and Sandra Goodrich; great-grandchildren, Abreanna Goodrich, Beth Ann Carey, Zacharia Carey, Ashley Goodrich, Devon Ferguson, Ethan Ferguson, Connor Ferguson and Logan Thomas. A sister, Charlotte Baker; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, the Rev. John and Donna Currie; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Alton introduced his granddaughters Sherri and Julie to his love of horses when they were very young children. He spent countless hours, days and years with Sherri and Julie taking them to riding lessons and competitions, watching them ride and sharing their successes with them.
Alton was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Clifford, Clyde and Claude, and sisters, Betty Bennett, Ella Peaslee and Lura Stewart.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. His brother-in-law, the Reverend John Currie, will perform the services. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, in the spring.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Treadwell Emergency Squad.

Margaret A. Bacon
DELHI — Margaret Ann Bacon, 54, of Roscoe, formerly of Delhi, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
The daughter of James and Frances (Dantz) Haley, she was born Jan. 15, 1949, in Saratoga Springs.
"Peggy" grew up in Andes, later living in Delhi, where she worked at O'Connor Hospital for 18 years, most of that time on the dietary staff. She had been a resident of Roscoe for the past three years, and was a fan of Elvis Presley and his music most of her life.
Surviving are her friend and former husband, Edward W. Bacon Sr., of Roscoe; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward W. and Grace Bacon Jr., of Andes; two grandchildren, Torin and Serena Bacon; her mother, Frances Murray, of Coral Springs, Fla.; a brother, James Haley, of Amsterdam; two nieces; two nephews; and many friends at O'Connor Hospital.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Delhi Alliance Church, with the Rev. David Wheatley Jr., pastor, officiating. A reception will follow, at which time the family will receive friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to O'Connor Hospital Expansion Fund.

Mary Cazza
ONEONTA — Mary Cazza, 94, of Oneonta passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.
She was born April 6, 1909, in New York City, the daughter of Matteo and Maria (Cannella) Scavone.
She married Vito DeSalvatore in 1926, and he passed away in 1945. She then married Emilio DeFiore, and then Carmen Cazza. They both predeceased her.
She was a seamstress for many years at the Jonathan Logan Dress Company in Oneonta.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Rosary Society, the Young at Heart Group, and the Italian-American Club.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph and Ardyce DeSalvatore of Oneonta, Nicholas and Dolores DeSalvatore of Norwich, Theresa DeSalvatore of Oneonta, and Jeane Natoli of Norwich; a sister, Theresa Sparaco of Oneonta; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen DeSalvatore; and a grandson, Matthew Natoli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Sidney C. Utter
DAVENPORT CENTER — Sidney Charles "Chuckie" Utter died Jan. 7, 2004, at his home in Davenport Center.
Chuckie was born Jan. 14, 1971, in Oneonta, to Sidney W. and Joan A. Sands Utter.
He had worked for Hartwick College for 10 years as a floater custodian in the maintenance department. Through work he was a former member and officer of SEIU Local 200.
Chuckie enjoyed hunting, working on cars and motorcycles, and reading. He loved people and was devoted to his friends and family. His dog "Mugsy" reciprocated Chuckie's love, perhaps knowing he had been rescued from a shelter.
Chuckie is survived by his father, Sidney and wife Barbara Utter of Davenport Center; mother, Joan Utter and Roger Winne of Davenport Center; son, Sidney Charles Utter Jr. of West Davenport; sisters, Edie and husband William Halstead of Davenport Center and Susan and husband John Rifenburgh of West Davenport; half sister, Terri Jo Burgher of Portlandville; stepbrothers, Chad Winne and Brett Winne of Davenport Center; grandmother, Edith Sands of Davenport Center; close nephew, Christopher Utter, and best friend Charlie Bordinger, both of Davenport Center; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Saturday, Jan. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Funeral service will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Virginia M. Butts
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Ms. Virginia M. Butts, 87, of Gatehouse Court, Daytona Beach, passed away Jan. 8, 2004, at her home.
Virginia was born on May 13, 1916, in Roxbury, the daughter of Herman and Hazel (Ahl) Wiedemann. She moved to Daytona Beach in September 2002, from Oneonta.
She worked for Sears for 13 years. She graduated from the A.O. Fox Memorial Licensed Practical Nursing Course in 1964. She worked for A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital for three years, she retired as an LPN from the University Hospital in San Diego, Calif., in 1987.
She was a member of the Sensational Seniors Travel Club, Daytona Beach, and she was vice president of the Valley Travelers, El Cajon, Calif.
She enjoyed traveling, ceramics, arts and crafts.
Virginia is survived by her son, Richard L. Butts of Oneonta; her daughter, Elaine Rummell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; her daughter-in-law, Marion Butts of Otego; her brothers, Merritt Wiedemann of Daytona Beach, Carl Wiedemann of Chittenango, and Douglas Wiedemann of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Marilyn Jenkins of Sherburne, Va., and Vivian Hamwey of Oneonta; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sally Gwynne Jones Mullen
ONEONTA — Mrs. Sally J. Mullen, 68, of Oneonta, died at her home on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004.
She had been a Hospice patient at her home since October. She died of pancreatic cancer, which she fought for three years.
Sally was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Williamsport, Pa., the daughter of William G. and Sarah B. Jones of Philipsburg, Pa.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta, where she was at one time director of Sunday school education.
Sally Mullen is survived by her sister, Jane Jones Vance (Mrs. John Vance), of Arlington, Va.
She was aunt to Keven Vance, Peter Vance, David Vance and Colan Vance, and great-aunt to Matthew Gerson and William Gerson. She was cousin to Joanne Bucholz, Carol Cramer, Margaret Howe, Rita Howe and Cecelia Rudy.
Sally was married in Morrisdale, Pa., in 1960, to Mr. James M. Mullen of Oneonta, who survives her.
She is also survived by her daughter, Megan G. Mullen of Racine, Wis., and her son, Micah D. Mullen of Raleigh, N.C. She was grandmother to Micah's two sons, James H. Mullen and Peter G. Mullen of Raleigh, N.C.
Sally was mother-in-law to Eileen Adamo Mullen.
She was an elementary school teacher in Paoli, Pa., Clearfield, Pa., and State College, Pa., pubic schools.
Sally served as school substitute and aide in the Oneonta schools and served for many years as the librarian at Center Street School in Oneonta. Sally served as coordinator of gifted education with her "Unicorn" program in the Oneonta City Schools. She worked also as director of the Saturday Seminars Program under The Catskill Area School Study Council at State University of New York at Oneonta. She was a key force behind "Odyssey of the Mind" programs while with the Study Council. While with the Oneonta schools, she started and taught in ACES (After School Enrichment) Program and COPS, another school enrichment program at Center Street School.
She was awarded the "Outstanding Educator Award" in 1990.
Sally Mullen was a benefactor of historical preservation. In 2003, she was awarded the Otsego and Schoharie Counties Historic Preservation Award. She served as president of The Greater Oneonta Historical Society and received the society's Albert Morris Award.
Mrs. Mullen was a graduate of Bucknell University (BS); State University at Oneonta (MA); and State University at Albany (MLS). She completed gifted education studies at the University of Connecticut. She was a graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola (Pa.) High School.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Joseph F. DiMaggio
JOHNSTOWN — The Rev. Joseph F. DiMaggio, former pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown, entered into eternal rest on his 75th birthday on Friday, Jan 9, 2004.
He was born Jan 9, 1929, in Frankfort, the son of the late Lawrence and Josephine Simonette DiMaggio.
Graduating from Frankfort High School in 1946, he entered St. Andrews Seminary, Rochester, in September of 1946 and graduated in 1949.
He entered Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, where he graduated in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in theology and education.
Father DiMaggio was ordained March 26, 1955, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany by Bishop Gibbons.
His first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Francis DeSales Church in West Albany. He was then assigned to St. Peters Parish and Academy in Saratoga Springs where he served as assistant pastor and professor of moral ethics until 1969. Father also served as chaplain for the fire and police departments in Saratoga Springs. Father then became assistant pastor of Christ the King Church in Guilderland until 1974. Father then served as administrator of Sacred Heart Church in Watervliet. He then became pastor of Holy Cross Church in Morris, before being appointed as pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown in 1977, where he remained until his retirement on Jan. 1, 2002. Father also served 10 years as Catholic chaplain at the Hale Creek Correctional Facility. He also was a member and past chaplain of Saratoga Springs Council Knights of Columbus No. 246.
Father DiMaggio is survived by three sisters, whom he referred to as the Golden Girls, Mrs. John E. Roberts (Pearl) of Prescott, Ariz., Mrs. Roger Gaspa (Katherine) and her husband, Roger, of Utica, and Mrs. Otto E. Dreikorn (Saundra) of Jupiter Island, Fla., and six nieces and one nephew.
Father was predeceased by his brother, Charles A. DiMaggio of Utica, on Jan. 9, 1986, and two brothers-in-law, Otto E. Dreikorn and John E. Roberts.
Funeral services will begin with a reception of the body on Monday, Jan. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 1 Cayadutta St., Johnstown. A parish Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Most Rev. Bishop Howard J. Hubbard as the main celebrant. Friends may call before Mass from 9 until 10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Joseph F. DiMaggio Memorial Fund, 200 Beach Rd., Penthouse C, Jupiter Island, FL 33469. Proceeds from the memorial fund will be distributed to Father DiMaggio's favorite charities.
