Thomas H. Kennedy Jr.

MILFORD — Thomas Harold Kennedy Jr., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Syracuse, the son of Thomas Harold and Grace Lola (Bresee) Kennedy Sr.

He married Mildred E. Newell on Jan. 11, 1946, in the Pine Grove Methodist Church, Colonie. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., for a year before moving to Milford, where they remained.

Mr. Kennedy served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the New York Company A, 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mt. Division. He was honorably discharged May 15, 1946.

When Tom and Milly returned to Milford, they joined Thomas H. Kennedy Sr. in the operation of the Texaco Gas Station and Luncheonette. They purchased the business in 1960 and successfully ran it until retiring in 1978. He also was a substitute mail carrier for Ralph Rowe, out of the Milford post office.

He assisted his wife in their very extensive genealogy research work, traveling great distances to obtain the needed documentation for the various family histories they compiled. He was a member of the Milford American Legion, Post No. 1566, Cooperstown Veterans of Foreign War, Post No. 7128, and the Davenport Historical Society. He was an avid bowler, traveling throughout the United States to participate in various tournaments.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Mildred, who died Feb. 24, 1999; and his son, Lloyd Terrence (Terry) Kennedy, who died Nov. 9, 2002.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Kennedy Green; niece, Nancy Green Milavec and husband Robert, and nephew, Timothy D. Green and wife Barbara, and both their families, all of Worcester.

Funeral services will be held at the Milford Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Kazinski, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends may call Monday, Jan. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The Milford American Legion Post No. 1566 will conduct a memorial service at this time.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 359, Milford, NY 13807.

Burial will be in the spring. Members of Milford American Legion Post No. 1566 will perform a full military graveside service then.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Annie Whitaker Ludington

EDMESTON — Annie Whitaker Ludington died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born in Trout Creek, the eldest of six children born to Clair L. and Mildred Drake Whitaker.

Annie Whitaker graduated from Walton High School in 1925 and from the Teachers Training Class at Delhi Tech in 1926.

She was employed in the Delaware County Clerk's Office for several years. Later, she resided in Edmeston, where she was employed by New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Co., from which she retired in 1964.

She married Norwood M. Robinson in Edmeston in 1936. He died in 1977. She married Ralph E. Ludington of Sarasota, Fla., in 1981.

Mrs. Ludington resided in Edmeston for more than 60 years. During that time she was a loyal and faithful member of the Edmeston United Methodist Church and served as its treasurer for many years.

She was very active in community affairs. She was a lifelong supporter of the American Red Cross and served for a time as membership chair of the Northern Otsego County Red Cross chapter. Annie served as a Bassett Hospital volunteer for more than 25 years and was a volunteer at Sarasota Memorial Hospital when living in Florida. She was a blood-bank volunteer and blood donor. She was always involved in a supportive role in all Rotary Club community projects and was a member of the Edmeston Women's Club and local and national DAR organizations.

Mrs. Ludington was very sports-minded and especially enjoyed the high school and town team sports. She was an avid bowler, golfer and bridge player.

Also, her flower beds and vegetable gardens brought her joy and satisfaction.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her special nephews, James Turner of Cooperstown and Robin (Hilda) Turner of Hobart; her sister Wanita Lewis (Donald) of Sarasota, Fla.; her sister Helen Greene of Cooperstown; and sister Mildred (Mimi) Lehman of Cooperstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her brothers John and Lavern predeceased her.

Memorial services for Mrs. Ludington will be in the Edmeston United Methodist Church pending arrangements.

Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Edmeston United Methodist Church or to the Edmeston Emergency Squad.

Funeral arrangements are being shared by the Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, Fla., and the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Gertrude W. Egry

POUGHKEEPSIE — Mrs. Gertrude Whipple Egry, 87, of the Lutheran Care Center, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, after a long illness.

Gertrude was born on Aug. 8, 1916, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Clyde and Lena Coe Whipple.

Raised and educated in Oneonta, it was on Aug. 8, 1935, her 19th birthday, that she married Julius Egry Jr. They moved to Coxackie, where she worked in her grandfather's hotel for a short time before moving to Schenectady. There she worked for Sokolov's department store and General Electric. Her husband of 23 years died in 1958.

She attended Albany Business College, worked for Sealtest Foods and for the General Electric Co. as a keypunch operator and in computer-related jobs for 26 years, until her retirement in 1982.

A member of Bellevue Reformed Church in Schenectady, she liked to entertain friends and family, play cards and go to the shore. She was interested in all crafts, crocheting and furniture refinishing. In 1985, she moved to Rhinebeck, then Millbrook in Dutchess County. Her last years were spent at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie as a result of emphysema.

Survivors include a son, Donald C. Egry of Verbank, and his wife, Janice; a niece, Sally Whipple Martin of East Meredith; a nephew, Duane Whipple of Davenport Center, and their families. A brother, Lester Whipple, predeceased her in July 2002.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, from the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville, with Jack E. Arnold officiating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia.

Memorial contributions in Gertrude's name may be made to the National Emphysema Foundation, 15 Stevens St., Norwalk, CT 06850, or to your county SPCA.

Pamela A. Ferraro

MARGARETVILLE — Pamela A. Ferraro, 60, of Margaretville, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at home.

She was born April 26, 1943, in the Bronx to Charles Borey and Gizella Boratko.

She married James V. Ferraro Jr., DDS, Sept. 1, 1962. He died Dec. 5, 2002.

Pam graduated with a bachelor's degree from Delhi Tech. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

She assisted her husband in his dental practice and was also a drug and alcohol counselor at Kingston Hospital.

Pam was devoted to her religious organizations and loved working with flowers. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister.

She is survived by three sons, James V. Ferraro III of Margaretville, Jon T. Ferraro of Arkville and United States Army Pvt. Michael A. Ferraro, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky.; a grandson, Trevor Jon Ferraro, with whom she loved spending time; and a sister, Susan Borey.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Jan. 11, and Monday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. each evening at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell, celebrant.

Burial will be later in Margaretville Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville or Living Word Chapel in West Hurley.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Helen H. Schollhamer

SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Mrs. Helen H. Schollhamer, 76, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Meadows.

She was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Otto and Helen (Bodmann) Keil.

Helen married Frederick C. Schollhamer in Sacred Heart Church, on April 24, 1949, in Hartsdale. He survives.

She was a 1946 graduate of White Plain High School. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Cary Mede Estate, Springfield Center.

She was a member of the Springfield Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer for the New York State Historical Association.

Survivors, besides her husband, Frederick C. Schollhamer of Springfield Center, include two daughters, Dorothy Schollhamer and Marjory Schollhamer of White Plains.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, at noon at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. John Roos officiating. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A spring burial will take place in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Mrs. Schollhamer's memory may be made to the Springfield First Responders or the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Marion Zegel

BLOOMVILLE — Marion Zegel, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born March 26, 1920, in Southold, the daughter of Minnie and Otto Schwan.

Marion married Henry Zegel on Aug. 30, 1941, in Islip. He predeceased her in May 2000.

Mrs. Zegel was a resident of Islip for 38 years and Port St. Lucie, Fla., for 23 years.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and William Lofstad of Bloomville; grandchildren, Christine Kaufman of Hobart, David Lofstad of Hampton Bays and Stacey Sackett of Massapequa; and great-grandchildren, Eliza Smith, Seth Smith and Logan Kaufman.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Services will take place at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Robinson Terrace, Quality of Life Fund, 28652 St. Hwy. 23, Stamford, NY 12167.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Hugh W. Vaughan

WELLS BRIDGE — Hugh W. Vaughan, 64, of Wells Bridge passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at his residence after a long courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born June 12, 1939, in Oneonta, the son of Woodrow W. and Beatrice (Dibble) Vaughan.

He married Marge Sutton on Feb. 10, 1962, in Maryland. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.

Prior to his illness, Hugh worked for Amphenol in Sidney for 43 years, and while there he was a member of the IBEW, and served as a local steward.

He was a 30-year member of the Wells Bridge Fire Department, and served as its chief for seven years. He was a fire commissioner, as well as a commissioner of the Wells Bridge Water District.

Hugh collected antique cars and was a member of the Reminiscers Antique Car Club of Oneonta. He also enjoyed collecting antique radios and baseball cards, along with being an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Marge Vaughan, of Wells Bridge; his children, Denice and (Floyd) Hamm of Wells Bridge, and Bill Vaughan and his fiancee, Missi Ferguson, of Treadwell; his grandchildren, Kaline and Matt Moore, Kristin Quigley, Stephani Vaughan, Woody Vaughan, and Devon, Ethan, and Connor Ferguson; a brother, James Vaughan of Oneonta; and a sister, Dianna and (Pete) Mathewson of West Oneonta. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Robert Sutton of Maryland; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion and William Walrath of Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Edith Sutton of Maryland and Dottie Sutton of Schenevus; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, from 6 to 8 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. David Steensma, pastor of the Wells Bridge Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, where military honors will be accorded by a detachment representing the U.S. Navy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wells Bridge Fire Department or the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.
