Joan Feyh

WALTON — Joan Feyh, 56, of Walton, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2004, at home after a short illness.

Joan was born in Queens, daughter of Nicholas and Sophie Gray Corona.

On March 22, 1991, she married William Feyh in Walton. He survives.

She was a secretary, employed by Delhi Academy in Delhi. Joan loved to garden, and was very proud of the stone wall she and Bill built around her home. She attended the First Baptist Church of Delhi.

Joan is survived by her husband, William Feyh; two daughters, Jill S. and Donald Pritchett of Sanford, Fla., and Laura Nicholetti of Austin, Texas; two sons, Todd A. and Stacy Mueller of Palmetto, Fla., and Michael Feyh, Deer Park, Long Island; her mother, Sophie Corona, Deer Park, Long Island; 11 grandchildren, Steven Mueller, Portia Luca, Samantha, Brandon, Jessica and Donald III Pritchett, David, Matthew, and Jennifer Feyh, and Michael and Kevin Nicholetti; two sisters, Evelyn Raffaele of Deer Park, Long Island, and Jeannie Grace of Queens; one brother, Thomas Corona of Bay Shore; and a special friend, Charlene Palmatier.

She was predeceased by her father, Nicholas Corona; and a sister, Jane Blau in December 2002.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jeffrey Staples, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Delhi, officiating.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the North Babylon Cemetery, North Babylon, Long Island.

Memorial contributions in Joan's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820, who did a wonderful job of taking care of Joan and her family these last few weeks. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Paul Ludwig

SIDNEY — Paul Ludwig, 74, of 1 Pearl Street East, Sidney, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Paul and Margaret Deitlein Ludwig.

On Jan. 10, 1954, he married Edna Hoegler in Ridgewood, Queens.

Paul was a veteran with the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ludwig was a police officer for the New York City Police Department from 1957 until his retirement in 1990.

Paul attended the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney. He was a member of the Walton V.F.W., Charles L. Jacobi Post 183 American Legion, Sidney, Loyal Order of the Moose No. 277, Sidney, Sidney Lodge No. 2175 B.P.O.E., Delaware County Shields and the P.B.A. of New York.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Ludwig, of Sidney; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Pamela Ludwig of Ft. Sill, Okla., William Ludwig of Old Bridge, N.J., and Stephen and Eleanor Ludwig of Manlius; and five grandchildren, Michael, William, Lissette, Emily and Katelyn Ludwig.

Friends are invited to call after noon today, Jan. 12, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with his family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. The Sidney Elks Lodge will conduct ritualistic services at 8 p.m. today.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, from the Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, officiating.

Burial will be later in the Prospect Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Charles Harris

DELHI — Charles Harris, 91, of Delhi passed away Jan. 8, 2004, at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Albany.

He was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Tuskegee, Ala., the son of Charles and Annie Harris Sr.

He was married to Grace Dewitt Harris.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Harris was a union heavy equipment operator out of Syracuse. He was past master of Chenango Lodge 32 PHA, Binghamton; past worthy patron of the Sheba Chapter 3 OESPHA, Binghamton, life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post No. 1055, Delhi, member of the American Legion No. 190, Delhi, and a member of the Local 410, Binghamton, Heavy Equipment Operator.

Charles was a great outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.

His wife, Grace Harris, Delhi; a stepson, George Dewitt, Albany, and his children, grandson, George Dewitt Jr., Albany and granddaughter, Consuela Levy, Florida; a daughter, Sandra Harris Felton, granddaughters, Amira Davis, and Chanda Felton and grandson, James Felton, all of Endicott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Leatherstocking Region Office, SUCO, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Jeffrey Staples officiating.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Carl Barkman

MARGARETVILLE — Carl Barkman, 88, of Margaretville passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, Fla.

Carl was born on Oct. 4, 1915, in Margaretville, the son of Claude Barkman Sr. and Iva Mae Finch.

He married Mary Pedulla in Colliersville; she died Oct. 1, 1990.

Carl was a U.S. Army veteran, who served during World War II. He received the Purple Heart award. He worked for New York state D.O.T. for 30 years in Margaretville.

Carl was an avid golfer and worked at Lou's Golf Driving Range for many years. He was a member of the Middletown American Legion Post No. 216.

Carl is survived by two brothers, Donald Barkman of Dover Plains, and Raymond Barkman of Schoharie; one sister, Mary Spickerman of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six brothers, Claude Jr., Virgil, Cleneth, Dick, Samuel and Edward.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Middletown American Legion, Post No. 216, Margaretville, NY 12455.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Verna I. Morley

WHITNEY POINT — Verna I. Morley, 82, formerly of Whitney Point went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004.

She was predeceased by two brothers, four sons, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Stanley Morley, Homer; seven children, Barbara (Lewis) Pixley, Marathon, Gary (Nantholie) Morley, North Pitcher, Richard S. (Nancy) Morley, Delhi, Carol (Clinton) Baldwin, Cortland, David (Ellen) Morley, Marathon, Madeline (Sheridan) Stone, South Plymouth, and Rosemary (Leslie) Thornton, Homer; 37 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Verna was a member of the Whitney Point United Methodist Church, a school bus driver for many school districts, a member of the Rebeccahs, Grange and a past 4-H leader. Verna and her family showed their Guernsey Cattle for many years at county, state and national shows.

The family will receive friends at the Whitney Point United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004. The Rev. Ronald Wenzinger will be officiating.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Whitney Point United Methodist Church, 7311 Collins St., Whitney Point, NY 13862.

Arrangements are by the Nichols Funeral Home, Whitney Point.

Estella J. Pearsall

MOUNT UPTON — Estella J. Pearsall, 87, a resident at the Gilmour Health Care Facility, Norwich, and formerly of Oxford Street, Mount Upton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, in Norwich.

She was born March 28, 1916, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Walter and Grace Parris Jones.

On Feb. 15, 1942, she married Lawrence W. Pearsall. He predeceased her on March 15, 1986.

Estella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Edward Ziobro of Mount Upton; and three granddaughters, Heather Ziobro of Mount Upton, Heidi Ziobro of Boston, Mass., and Hayle Ziobro of Washington, D.C.

A brother, Donald Jones and a sister, Athalia Jones, predeceased Estella.

Private graveside services will be held at the family's convenience at the Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Mount Upton Fire Department and Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838.

Warren B. Ryther

MORRIS — Warren B. Ryther Jr., 84, of Morris died at his home on Jan. 12, 2004.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1919, in Eden, the son of Warren and Catherine (Coleman) Ryther.

He married Harriet M. Hurlbut on Dec. 4, 1942, in Oxford.

He was a 48-year resident of Morris where he served as superintendent of the Morris Central School from 1955 to 1975. He previously was superintendent of the Guilford Central School from 1951 to 1955, and he was interim superintendent at the Grand Gorge Central School from 1975 to 1977.

He taught physical education at Guilford Central School from 1941 to 1942, and at the Avoca Central School from 1946 to 1951. From 1978 to 1985, he was clerk/treasurer of the Village of Morris.

A graduate of Eden High School and Ithaca College, he had a master's degree in educational administration from Alfred University. He also did graduate work at Cornell University, Syracuse University and State University at Albany.

He served his country during World War II in the United States Naval Reserve, first as a Chief Specialist and then as a commissioned officer. He served aboard the U.S.S. Clermont with Naval Amphibious Forces in the Pacific.

He was a member of the Morris United Methodist Church, having served as Lay leader, treasurer and choir member. He served the Morris Rotary Club twice as president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1980. He was a member and past commander of the Butternuts Valley American Legion Post No. 1135 for 34 years. He served as Master of Ceremonies at the Morris community observance of Memorial Day.

An avid sportsman, he was a member and past president of the Butternut Valley Rod and Gun Club. He had served as director of the following: Tri-County Motor Club, Catskill Mountain Educational Center, Otsego Urban Rural Self-Development Association (O.U.R.S.), Opportunities for Otsego, the Otsego County Association for Retarded Children and the Otsego County 4-H Committee.

He was a trustee and former president of the Morris Village Library and was chairman of the Butternut Valley Health Center at its Inception in 1978. In 1985, the Louisville Grange named him Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

In 2003, the community athletic fields adjacent to the Morris Central School were named in his honor. He was a member emeritus of the American Association of School Administrators and a member of the New York State Council of School District Administrators.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Harriet; two sons and their wives, Warren III and Jane of Garrattsville, and Richard and Norma of Pittsford; a brother, Coleman Ryther of Canandaigua; and sisters, Evelyn Savage and Marjorie Murphy, both of Eden; and his grandchildren, David, Brian, Allison, Christopher and Suzanne: and a great-granddaughter, Emma.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Morris at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial donations to the Morris Methodist Church or the Youth Programs of the Morris Rotary Club in Warren's name.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Carlton H. Eldred

ONEONTA — Carlton H. Eldred, 81 years of age, of Oneonta died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born May 19, 1922, in Roseboom, the son of Carl B. and Clara (Brown) Eldred.

On Jan. 13, 1944, Carlton married Ella Close in Oneonta.

Carlton served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He worked for Lane Construction in Meriden, Conn., for 38 years before retiring.

Carlton had a strong interest in harness racing and had also owned and raced horses.

He was a member of the Emmons Methodist Church, Emmons.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ella Eldred, of Oneonta; his three sons and their spouses, Michael Eldred of Saratoga, Dennis and Diane Eldred of Ithaca, and Scott and Donna Eldred of Grenada; his 11 grandchildren, Deanna, Lance, Jessica, Kayla, Ashley, Peter, Todd, Susan, Lindsay, Ethan and Jacob; his five great-grandchildren; his sister, Gertrude Shader of Argyle, Texas; and his niece, Patricia Taub of Argyle, Texas.

Carlton was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Clara Eldred.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Rodney Johnson, pastor of the Emmons Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Milford Cemetery, Milford.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Emmons Methodist Church or to the Oneonta Rescue Squad in loving memory of Carlton H. Eldred.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
