Robert K. Davis

UNADILLA — Robert K. Davis, 86, a resident at Robinson Terrace, Stamford, and formerly from Unadilla and Sidney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Stamford.

He was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Scranton, Pa., the son of the late Benjamin and Edith Wisby Davis.

On Jan. 31, 1942, he married Ruth Kenner in Scranton, Pa. She predeceased him on Jan. 15, 1986.

Bob was supervisor for the E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, from 1949 until his retirement in 1980.

He was a longtime member of the Sidney United Methodist Church and Sidney Lodge No. 801 F&AM. He was a former member of the Sidney Lodge No. 2175 B.P.O.E.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Douglas Doi of Oneonta; two grandsons, Staff Sgt. Douglas Michael Brent of the U.S. Air Force, Honolulu, Hawaii, and David Ernest Brent of Auburn; brother, Richard Davis of Las Vegas, Nev. Bob is also survived by his family at Robinson Terrace.

A brother, Benjamin Davis, predeceased him.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Jan. 14, 2004, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of his church officiating.

Friends are invited to call from 6 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel on Wednesday.

Burial of his cremains will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, Pa.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Sidney United Methodist Church.

Cora Hilsinger

WORCESTER — Cora (Pickard) Hilsinger, 94, died Jan. 12, 2004, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Mrs. Hilsinger was born in Westford on April 8, 1909, the daughter of Martin and Gertrude (Gano) Pickard.

She graduated from Westford Union School in 1927 and attended Oneonta Normal School.

On Oct. 1, 1934, she married Jason N. Hilsinger, who predeceased her Feb. 4, 1969.

She was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of which she was treasurer for 19 years. She was also a charter member of the Worcester Women's Club, the Worcester Historical Society and for 14 years served as the Tax Collector for the Worcester Central School District.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna R. and Jack Nagle of Worcester; a grandson, David and wife Joya of Berkeley, Calif.; a granddaughter, Kim (Nagle) Gibbons of Ashburn, Va.; three great-grandsons, Gradyn and Chase Nagle and Taylor Gibbons; and one great-granddaughter, Erin Gibbons. She also has several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Two sisters, Marcia Pearsall and Neva Foutch predeceased her.

There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Hilsinger is to be cremated and a memorial service will be held later, at the convenience of the family.

It is requested that any memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 310, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Viola M. Dandignac

UNADILLA — Viola M. Dandignac, 98, of Unadilla passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.

She was born June 30, 1905, in Glendale, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Furgen) Welsch.

She married Edward C. Dandignac Sr., on Dec. 31, 1927, and he died on July 10, 1986.

Mrs. Dandignac was a member of the Aahmes Caldron No. 81, Eastern Star, Binghamton, and its past matron, as well as being a member of the Unadilla Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children, Virginia Scott of Sun City Center, Fla., Edward C. Dandignac Jr. of Austin, Texas, Robert J. Dandignac of Unadilla, and Ralph C. Dandignac of Delhi; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Petterson of Carmel; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, John Welsch and a sister, Mildred Kennaugh.

A service to celebrate her life will be held in the spring in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, NY 13820. The date and time will be published in a future edition of The Daily Star.

Memorial contributions may be made to A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home patients' fund.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

William Herbert

SIDNEY — William Herbert, 72, a resident at the Sharon's Home for Adults, 77 River St., Sidney, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Livingston Manor, the son of the late Roy and Kathryn Davis Herbert.

On Sept. 9, 1977, he married Ethel Jean Clink in Albany County.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jean Herbert, of Sidney; daughter, Dena Lynn Hitt of Unadilla; son, Nathan James Herbert of Bainbridge; two sisters, Phyllis Egnor Mattice of Oneonta, and Frances VanSandt of Alaska; brother, James Herbert of Bainbridge; special friends, Don and Sharon Cole of Sidney; aunt, Edna Davis of Sidney. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brother, Roy Herbert, and a sister, Virginia Foland, predeceased him.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, with the Rev. David Woods officiating. Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Sidney Emergency Squad if desired.

Rita Ann O'Morrow

UNADILLA — Rita Ann O'Morrow of Unadilla passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill.

Mrs. O'Morrow was born in Fly Creek on June 27, 1906, the daughter of John and Sarah (Hughes) Dibble.

Most of her life was spent in the Worcester, Sidney and Unadilla areas. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney.

Survivors include her brother and his wife, Oloff John and Helen Dibble of Cherry Valley; her sister, Orpha Farr of Liverpool; a special niece, Ina Tuttle of Cherry Valley; a nephew and his wife, George and Alba Dennis; and several other nieces and nephews including Joan, Allen and John.

She was predeceased by her sister, Orgencia Dennis of Sidney.

The family will receive friends at noon one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., 179 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Gordon Polenz, pastor of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Sidney, officiating.

Interment will be in the spring at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Worcester.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home Inc., of Unadilla.

George Clarkson

ONEONTA — George W. Clarkson, 85, of Oneonta passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Lenox, Pa.

He married Verna Carley on Sept. 15, 1944. She died Feb. 17, 1994. They opened Clarkson Electric Motor on Main Street, Oneonta in 1949, after his retirement his son, Rodney continued to operate the family business until 2001.

He is survived by three children, Rodney and Kathy Clarkson of Oneonta, Stanley Clarkson of Victor, and Wendy Tomey of Wynnewood, Pa.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Clarkson to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Melville G. Hay

SCHENECTADY — Melville G. Hay, 78, of Schenectady and formerly of Oneonta, died Jan. 10, 2004, in Schenectady.

He was born March 11, 1925, in Oneonta, to John Earl and Alma J. Miner Hay.

Melville graduated from Oneonta High School and then entered the United States Navy, serving in World War II on the USS Texas and saw action in Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a lifetime member of the Oneonta VFW Post 1206.

Melville is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Kendall and Charlotte Hay of Oneonta; brother-in-law, Charles Aspenwall of Mexico; nephew, Wesley Aspenwall of Epping, N.H.; and niece, Alma Jane Scaggs of Mexico.

Following Melville's wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.

Burial will be in West Oneonta Cemetery in the spring.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

August 'Al' Waldner

SUMMERFIELD, Fla. — August "Al" Waldner, 87, a retired testing technician for NASA, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Summerfield Hospice Suites.

A native of Brooklyn, he moved to Summerfield from New Smyrna Beach in 1994. Mr. Waldner was Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Waldner, of Summerfield; daughters, Barbara Ahlheim of Westbury, Nancy Haines of Hicksville, and Sharon Wood of Richfield, Conn.; son, Paul Waldner of Hamburg, Germany; stepdaughters, Roberta Persing of Schenectady, Charlene Jaklitsch of East Meredith, and Denise Wakin of Laurens; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

All Faiths Cremation Society, The Villages, of Lady Lake, Fla., provided information.

Burial will be in the summer at the convenience of the family.

Joyce Marie Craft

LAKELAND, Fla. — Mrs. Joyce Marie Craft, 63, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Jan. 13, 2004, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1940, in Hobart. She moved to Lakeland from Highland 13 years ago.

She was a dispatcher for New Paltz and Poughkeepsie police departments. She was a member of Vineyard Rebekah Lodge No. 572, Odd Fellows, Highland.

Her husband, Robert Harry Craft Sr., predeceased her.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Harry Craft Jr., Orlando, Fla., Timothy Craft, Hyde Park, and John Craft, Etters, Pa.; one daughter, Josephine Bowen, Milton; two sisters, Florence Bower, Phoenicia, and Janice Lifer, Kingston; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Bloomville.

Carlton H. Eldred

ONEONTA — Carlton H. Eldred, 81 years of age, of Oneonta died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in the Milford Cemetery in Milford.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta.

Allison E. Burroughs

Allison E. Burroughs, 7, of Cold Brook Road, Homer, New York, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at University Hospital, Syracuse.

She was born in Cortland December 15, 1995, the daughter of Eric K. and Heidi Voss Burroughs.

Allie was currently in kindergarten at Homer Elementary School and attended the First Baptist Church of Homer.
Allie is survived by her parents; two brothers, Nathan and Isac; her sister, Marissa; paternal grandparents, Mahlon and Sandra Burroughs of Homer; and her maternal grandparents, Erwin and Erna Voss of Johnstown; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Homer.

Interment in the Cold Brook Cemetery will take place in the spring.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home in Cortland.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Central New York Friends, a service for the developmentally disabled. Contributions can be sent to: CNY Developmental Services, Attn: Sue Foster, 36 Owego St., Cortland NY 13045.

A. Wendell Hollenbeck

A. Wendell Hollenbeck, 91, of Lakeside Drive, Mayfield, died Friday April 4, 2003 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility following a long illness.

He was born in the Town of Mayfield on February 16, 1912. The son of the late Andrew M. and Edith Loucks Hollenbeck.

Mr. Hollenbeck was a graduate of Johnstown High School and attended Johnstown Business College. He worked as an apprentice at the Fulton County Machine and Tool Company. He also was a machinist at General Electric Company, Wood and Hide, Fultonville Machine and the Fulton County Silk Company for many years.
He was the owner and operator of Holly's Service and Marine on Lakeside Drive, Mayfield, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Hollenbeck was a member of Fish House Masonic Lodge since 1947, where he served as master of the Lodge in 1955 and as chaplain. He was appointed Grand State Representative to the Grand Lodge of Queensland. he was a member of the Sacandaga chapter of the Royal Arch Masons. He served as chaplain and as High Priest for three terms. He was also a member of Sigma Bodies, Scottish Right Masonry, Valley of Schenectady, the Fulton Scottish Right club, Johnstown, Cyprus Temple, Albany, Cyprus Temple Clown unit and Adirondack Shrine Club. He was a member of Juanita Chapter order of the Eastern Star since 1951. He has served as patron for eight terms. He was also district Grand lecturer of the Fulton-Hamilton-Herkimer-Montgomery district. He holds affiliations with Saint Monica Chapter OES Johnstown, and is a member of the Kayadetta Court Order of Amaranth of which he served as patron in 1979. He was active in the farm bureau for many years, the Mayfield PTA, Fulton County 4H leader and member of the executive committee of the Fulton County 4H.

He attended the North Main Street United Methodist Church of Gloversville and was a member and past president of the Mayfield Marine and Merchants Association and was a member and past president of the Great Sacandaga Marine Association.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Lippert Hollenbeck whom he married April 22, 1936 in Johnstown, NY; a son, A. Marwen Hollenbeck of Lafayette, Tenn.; a daughter, Margaret Leane Bonfey of Mayfield, NY; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday April 7, at the Northville Funeral Home where a Masonic Ritual will be conducted at 7 p.m. and an Eastern Star Ritual will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday April 8, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, Springfield, Mass., or the charity of one's choice.

David C. Fosmire

David C. Fosmire, 82, died Friday at the St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. He was born March 17, 1921 in Gloversville, the son of Thomas A. and Kate Lockyer Fosmire. Mr. Fosmire graduated from Gloversville High School Class of 1940 and later received a teacher degree from Union College.

He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Fosmire was employed by Brandeise University in Boston, MA and later taught school in Greenville, Maine and retired from the Wappinger Central School District where he taught for over 35 years. He attended the 1st Baptist Church of Amsterdam.
Mr. Fosmire married the former Geraldine Mead. She predeceased him on October 10, 2001.

He was survived by 2 sons, Thomas Q. Fosmire and his wife Donna of Cincinnati, Ohio and David C. Fosmire Jr. and his wife Elaine of Tucson, Arz; 1 daughter, Deborah Donovan and her husband Steven of Poughkeepsie, NY; 1 brother, Leicester Fosmire and his wife Bettye of Fonda, NY; 1 sister, Beverly Gardner and her husband Jay of Florida; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the M.S. Foundation.

James J. Glode

Mr. James J. Glode, 39, of Riceville Road, Gloversville, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after being stricken at home.

He was born in Glens Falls April 10, 1963 and was a graduate of Broadalbin High School.

Mr. Glode served in the U.S. Navy.
Jim attended Mayfield Methodist church and was a member of the Mayfield Servicemen's Club.

He owned and operated Riceville Automotive.

Survivors include his parents, Roger and Maureen Booth Glode of Gloversville; his wife, Colleen Beach Glode of Gloversville; two daughters, Jessica and Sabrina Glode of Gloversville; two stepchildren, Derek and Lisa Hakes of Gloversville; one sister, Susan Kippel of Queensbury; one brother, John Glode of Fonda; three nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mayfield Cemetery at a later date.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Fulton County Ambulance.
