Pauline R. Lyons

EAST MEREDITH — Pauline R. Lyons, 71 years of age, of East Meredith went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, after a short but very courageous battle with cancer. She passed away at home with all her family supporting her.

She was born June 4, 1932, in North Harpersfield, the daughter of Cyrus E. and Hazel (Rifenburg) Moore.

She married William E. Lyons on Feb. 17, 1948, in Roxbury. William predeceased her on Aug. 10, 1992.

Pauline was a machine operator and assembler at Astrocom in Colliersville, where she retired in 1992.

She enjoyed planting flowers and taking care of her home, which she lived in for 40 years. She also enjoyed spending a lot of time with her children and her grandchildren and her many friends.

She was a member of the Singles Club at the Country Rock Cafe, where she met her dear friend, Stanley Valentine.

Pauline touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, William Gary Lyons, and his wife, Charlotte, of Panama City, Fla.; her daughters, Betty Fancher and her husband, Wade, of Cobleskill, Irene VanGelder of Washington, Pa., Cindy Reynolds and her husband, Gary, of East Meredith, and Connie Manon of Oneonta; her 14 grandchildren; her 18 great-grandchildren; her brother, Harold Moore of Oneonta; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Cyrus and Hazel Moore; her dear friend, Stanley Valentine; her brothers, Walter Moore, Charles Moore and Cyrus Moore; and her sisters, Dorothy Moxham, Clara Clark and Frances Manon.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating.

Calling hours will be offered on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be held in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Janice B. Perrone

ONEONTA — Janice B. Perrone, 68, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at her home.

She was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Johnson City, the daughter of Howard and Mary (Kitchen) Bigelow.

Janice was a graduate of Oneonta High School, Class of 1953.

She married Gregory M. Perrone on Oct. 8, 1960, in Oneonta. He predeceased her Dec. 10, 1999.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta and was employed at Time to Travel in Oneonta.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed traveling.

Janice is survived by her children, Vincent Perrone of Oneonta, and Veronica and husband Harold Pollack of Flossmoor, Ill.; two granddaughters, Rebecca and Hannah Pollack; as well as many friends.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Feb. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch as celebrant.

Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons at a later date.

At the request of the family, in lieu flowers, contributions may be made to The Arc Otsego Vocational Service, 102 Browne St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

James Richard 'Dick' More

WOODBURY, Minn. — James Richard "Dick" More, 78, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, following a long illness.

Born April 16, 1925, in Oneonta, Dick was employed with the electrical division of 3M Co. for 34 years. He was a WWII veteran, proudly serving as a Marine in the South Pacific. He was also a 50+ year member of the Brotherhood of Free Masons.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Ruth.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jacqueline; will be dearly missed by his loving children, JoAnn (Stan) Hagen and James W.; his four dear grandchildren, Brad More, James (Jenni) More, Katie More and Jennifer Hagen; precious great-grandson, Jackson More; sister, Virginia Elliot Fox of Garrattsville; along with nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 2025 E. River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Herbert C. Baldwin

FRANKLIN — Herbert C. Baldwin, 73, of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

He was born March 2, 1930, in Afton, the son of Claude and Bessie (Phillips) Baldwin.

Herb owned and operated Herb's Refuse Service in the Franklin and Treadwell area for 26 years. Before that he worked for ECD Bendix in Sidney.

He enjoyed bowling and participated in one of the local leagues until a year ago.

Herb is survived by his No. 1 woman in his life for 36 years, Evelyn Beames of Franklin; his children, Rosemary Davis of Florida, Herbert C. and Karen Lowe of Sidney, Pamela Conklin of Unadilla, Merle and Jean Ring of Arizona, Carolyn and Angelo Ortiz of Unadilla, Betty and Kenny Shaw and Bruce and Jean Shaw of Treadwell; a brother and two sisters, Claude and Reba Baldwin, Barbara J. Baldwin and Beatrice E. Funke, all of Oneonta, as well as many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Ted Baldwin; a daughter, Bonnie Barse; and a brother and a sister, Orville W. Baldwin and Bernice D. Becker.

Friends may call on Monday at the funeral home from noon until service time.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 1, in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. Mitchell Spring, pastor of the Spirit and Truth Church of West Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Fannie K. Dart

PORTLANDVILLE — Fannie K. Dart, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, in Zephyrhills, Fla.

A funeral service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Ann E. Guiney

OSWEGO — Ann E. Guiney, 89, a former Little Falls resident and most recently of Bishop's Commons, Oswego, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Oswego.

She was born June 21, 1914, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Cody) O'Neil and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. Raised in Little Falls most of her life, she moved to Cooperstown in 1940, then moved to Oswego in 2002.

She was married to Robert Guiney on Nov. 29, 1942, at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. Mr. Guiney passed away on Nov. 24, 1989.

At one time she was employed at the former Melrose Shoe Company in Little Falls.

Mrs. Guiney was a member of the Holy Family Parish and was a former member of its Rosary Society.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Guiney of Lake Worth, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Bergene, and husband, Ted, of Oswego; four grandchildren, Chris, Jon and Kimberly Bergene and Tiffany Gloodt; three great-grandchildren, Jenna Bergene and Chris and Kaitlyn Gloodt; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws, including a special niece, Jane McDonald, and a special nephew, Bud O'Neil.

She was predeceased by a son, Patrick Guiney, on June 26, 1992; and a brother, George O'Neil.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 1, at 11 a.m. from the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, and at 11:30 a.m. from the Holy Family Parish (corner of Main and John Streets) where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer.

All memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Parish.

Harry W. Kurtz

ONEONTA — Dr. Harry W. Kurtz, 91, formerly of Oneonta, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 25, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Harry was born in Ephrata, Pa., on Aug. 6, 1912, son of Oscar Kurtz and Annie Wiest Kurtz. He grew up in Denver, Pa., and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. He received a master's degree from Pennsylvania State University and graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

He worked as an analytical chemist with Succhard Chocolate Co. in Lititz, Pa., as a Chemist for America Cyanamid Co. in Bound Brook, N.J., and taught secondary math in Claymont, Del. He served four years in the Army during World War II as a German interpreter in England, North Africa, Sicily and Italy.

Harry married Anita Miriam Allen in Wilmington, Del., in June of 1942. Following World War II and graduation from Palmer, he and Anita settled in Oneonta in 1948 where he was a chiropractor for 50 years.

Harry was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Oneonta, served on the board of trustees of the Oneonta YMCA, served on the Oneonta Zoning Board, belonged to Oneonta Elks No. 1312, Oneonta Masonic Lodge, Oneonta Country Club and to the Oneonta Rotary Club, where he served on the board of directors.

He is survived by sons, Terry A. Kurtz of Knoxville, Tenn., and Randall C. Kurtz of Schenectady; daughters, Penny A. Kurtz of Watervliet, and Barbara D. Brigode of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Glenda Pace Kurtz; and sons-in-law, Guy Spataford and Harold Brigode.

Harry was predeceased by his wife, Anita.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church in Oneonta, with Pastor Paul Messner officiating.

Harry is to be interred together with his wife, Anita, in the family plot in the Middle Creek Cemetery, Ephrata, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Harry's name to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, 1838 Greene Tree Road, Baltimore, MD 21208.

Mary L. Traverse

SIDNEY — Mary L. Traverse, 73, of Sidney, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born April 2, 1930, daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary (Ricci) Ruggiero in Bridgeport, Conn.

She married Charles E. Traverse, on May 26, 1947, in Hoboken, N.J. He predeceased her on Jan. 2, 1983.

Mary was employed as a bank teller for People's Bank in Monroe, Conn., when she retired.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Gregory McDermott of Monroe, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Nichole Traverse of Elk Grove, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Scott McDermott, Michele and Paul Mahler, James and Mirabella Traverse, Alison Traverse Warren and Jillian, Kelsey and Caitlyn Traverse; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth McDermott; a brother and sister-in-law, Vito and Connie Fusco; cousins, Sharon MacArthur, Scott and Mary-Lynn Henchey, Tamara Henchey Kiss and Larry and Harriett Henchey; four sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and the many special friends who helped Mary over the years.

She is also predeceased by a brother, Domenic Ruggiero, and sister, Rita Dancho.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Liberty Street, Sidney.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
