Madison K. Hilgers

DeLANCEY — Madison Kaydence Hilgers was born April 13, 2004, at 6:02 a.m. and went to be with the Lord at 6:27 a.m.

The doctors did everything they could do, but God knew she needed to be with him. God did what was best for this beautiful child, and though her life was short on earth, she will be forever in his Kingdom, and we will see her once again when we too arrive.

She is survived by her parents, Keven and Dawn Hilgers; one brother, Alexander; her grandparents, Betty and Jack Brissette, Deb and Tom Vradenburgh and Lori and Edward Hilgers; great-grandmothers, Estell White and Mabel Hilgers; great-grandparents, Mim and James Dickson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services for friends of the family will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Assembly of God of Delhi, Meredith Street, Route 28.

Gilbert 'Gib' Finkle

ANDES — Gilbert "Gib" Finkle, 86, of Andes passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

Gilbert was born July 28, 1917, in the town of Andes, the son of Reese and Elizabeth Liddle Finkle.

He was married to his wife, Ruth Ellett for 50 years. They married on Sept. 30, 1945, in Arena.

Gib served his country for several years during World War II.

A lifelong Andes area resident, he was a cattle dealer by trade for many years. Gilbert was a member of the Andes American Legion and the Delhi VFW Post.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Andes; three sons, Darwin of Andes, Darrel of Owatonna, Minn., and Dwayne of Andes; two granddaughters and two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Andes United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Danield McCollister, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Andes Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorials to the Andes Emergency Squad in the name of Gilbert Finkle are appreciated.

Bradley L. Onyan

COOPERSTOWN — Bradley L. Onyan, 51, passed away Friday, March 26, 2004, at his home.

Bradley was born on April 29, 1952, in Hamilton, to Norma (Rothwell) Onyan and Hobart Onyan.

Bradley attended Cooperstown Central School and attended Delhi College, where he studied carpentry.

Bradley is survived by his mother, Norma Onyan, and Ed Smith, of Cooperstown; his father, Hobart, of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Joanna Clothier Onyan of Herkimer; a son, Garrett Clothier Onyan of California; a sister, Louise Wayman of Cooperstown; brothers, Gregory of Fly Creek, and Terry and wife Wendy of Fly Creek; grandmother, Myrtle Rothwell of Sherburne; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Ernest Rothwell of Plymouth; and grandparents, Lester and Blanch Onyan of Hamilton.

A brief memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Following the service there will be a small gathering for reflective time with family and friends at the Cooperstown Veterans Club on Main Street, Cooperstown.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Isabel L. Barber

NINEVEH — Isabel Lillian Rose Barber, 80, of Nineveh and Lake Cit, Fla., died after a brief illness on Thursday, April 8, 2004.

She was predeceased by her husband, Claude L. Barber.

Mrs. Barber is survived by her special companion, Edward Mack; her daughters, Claudia L. Fiske and husband Daniel E. Fiske, Coventry, Janet R. Loudon and husband Donald Loudon, Greene, and Colista L. Galloway and husband Mike Galloway, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Ingraham, Norwich; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Barber retired from RiverMede Manor Nursing Home. She was a long-time member and officer of the Alice Rebekah Lodge 419 and the Moose Chapter 502 in Sidney. She also enjoyed many activities at the Eastern Broome Senior Center in Harpursville, and enjoyed dancing at the Singles Club in Oneonta.

Memorial services will be held at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home, 69-71 Maple St., Harpursville, on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 1 p.m., the Rev. Douglas Horne, pastor of the Nineveh Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Coventryville Cemetery, Coventry, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Isabel Lillian Rose Barber, may be made to American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Herbert Fitzgerald

AFTON — Herbert Fitzgerald, 75, of Afton passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at his home.

He was born Jan. 9, 1929, son of the late William and Mary Hunter Fitzgerald in Brooklyn.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Herbert married Joan Philippi on Dec. 23, 1978.

He was employed by the New York State Division of Youth Camp Brace in Masonville when he retired. He was also the Code Enforcement Officer and the Animal Control Officer for the village and towns of Bainbridge and Afton, as well as the humane officer for the Chenango County SPCA.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Fitzgerald; daughters, Patricia Ryan, Geanne Best and her husband, Glenn, and Joan Archer and her fiance, Richard Struble; sons, Jeremy Fitzgerald, and Patrick Fitzgerald and his fiancee, Erin Skinner; brother, William Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Tracie Hauptmann, Lindsey Best, Sierra, Grace and Eden Archer, Stella Fitzgerald, Sean, Edward and Matthew Ryan.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Fitzgerald.

Friends may call Saturday, April 17, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2004, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Linda King Watkins officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY, Chenango County SPCA or the Alzheimer's Association, 1406 Monroe St., Endicott, NY 13760.

Billye A. Vagliardo

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Billye A. Vagliardo, 80, a 12-year resident of Winter Haven, formerly of Oneonta, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Meadow Assisted Living Establishment in Winter Haven.

She was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Winston-Salem, N.C., the daughter of William and Lucille (Woolridge) Albright.

She married Carmen J. Vagliardo on Dec. 28, 1965, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Before her retirement, she worked for 22 years at SUNY Oneonta, and before that, she taught physical education.

She was a member of the Lake Alfred First Baptist Church and a former member of the Oneonta Country Club.

Billye loved to participate in a variety of sports, especially bowling, golf, tennis and softball.

She is survived by her husband, Carmen Vagliardo of Winter Haven, Fla.; her children, Sherry Dobson of Hamlin, Thomas James of Destin, Fla., and Leslie James of Washington, D.C.; her stepchildren, Carmen Vagliardo of Oneonta, James Vagliardo of Apalachin, and Rosemary Hassick of Oneonta; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Bernice Daniels of Texas.

It was Billye's wish that there be no formal funeral service.

However, expressions of sympathy may be directed to Carmen Vagliardo, Swiss Golf & Tennis, 1023 Eagle Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33881.

Bertil K. Holm

SUMMIT — Bertil K. Holm, 78, a former long-time resident of Charlotteville and current resident of Summit, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1925, to the late Oscar and Edith Weiklund Holm in the Bronx.

Bertil joined the United States Navy in 1943. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, during which time he sustained injuries that resulted in tremors of his hands and arms. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled in and graduated from Rutgers University in Farmingdale, N.J., with a master's degree in agriculture.

In 1944-45, Bertil purchased his mother's home in Charlotteville and started an egg business, formerly known as Charlotte Valley Farms. In the 1970s he gained employment with Cooperative Research Farms and moved the home office from Syracuse to his home in Charlotteville, where he worked until his retirement in 1990.

He is best known for his contributions, both financially and spiritually, to area churches, particularly First Summit Baptist Church of Charlotteville and East Worcester Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Alicia, of Summit and her children, Nicholaus and Michelle, both of Chillicothe, Ohio; along with her nine grandchildren; his son, Jeffrey, of Worcester, and his children, Jesse and Samantha; a sister, Linnea Strom of Ellicott City, Md.; five nieces and their families and two nephews and their families. His second wife, Winnie M. Holm, whom he married on June 10, 1988, still resides in Spring Valley, Calif.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Heinig Holm, in 1987.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel St., Cobleskill.

Funeral services will officiated by the Rev. Alan Miller of Richfield Springs, at the funeral home, at noon on Tuesday, April 20.

Interment will be in the Charlotteville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.

William R. Kelsey

FRANKLIN — William R. Kelsey, 74, of Franklin passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born March 14, 1930, in Fly Creek, the son of Harry and Katherine (Munson) Kelsey.

He married Maryland Robinson on July 6, 1947, in Franklin.

Bill owned and operated Robinson-Kelsey Department Store in Franklin for 40 years. He also was a partner in Bill and Ed's TV Repair and Appliance.

He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Lighthouse Church in Unadilla.

He was a charter founder of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, and a former school tax collector for the town of Franklin.

Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and riding his motor scooter around the Franklin area. He especially loved family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Maryland Kelsey of Franklin; his children, Chris Kershner of Columbus, Ohio, Connie Fullington of Franklin, Carol Streeter of Maryland and Cindy and Jim Carey of Franklin; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son and a son-in-law, William Kelsey Jr. and Ed Fullington.

Friends may call on Saturday from 6 to 8 at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, at which time the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 18, at 3 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Lighthouse Church, Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla, with the Rev. Michael Amos, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Lighthouse Church for the Deacon's Fund.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Thomas Osborne

ONEONTA — Thomas Osborne, 57, of Laurens, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 26, 1946, in New Berlin, the son of Donald (Dutch) and Shirley (Emhof) Osborne.

He married Debra Lillibridge Sept. 29, 1979, in New Hartford.

Tom attended school in Norwich and graduated from Earlville Central School in 1964.

He worked for New York Telephone Company for 25 years as a telephone installer and then supervisor. Following his retirement from the telephone company, Tom started his own business, Alarms by Osborne, installing security systems and video equipment, which he did for the past 10 years.

Tom was a member of the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) and the INHRA (International Hot Rod Association). He owned and raced a car named "Brain Fade" at Lebanon Valley Speedway on a regular basis. Tom and his dear friend, Doug Bush, were instrumental in starting the Southside Autorama in Oneonta. He loved to participate in and enjoyed all motor sports.

He was an avid bowler on the D&H League for many years and also played in a pool league for Millie's. Tom also played semi pro football for the Oneonta Indians. Tom, affectionately known as "Big Guy" to his friends and family will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Debra Osborne of Laurens; his parents, Donald "Dutch" and Shirley Osborne of Otego; his sister, Connie Piccirilli and her husband, Peter, of Scotia; his special nephew, Jaimy Piccirilli of Scotia; and his special niece, Amy Jo Piccirilli of Rotterdam.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Thomas "Big Guy" Osborne will be held on Sunday, April 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Laurens Fire Department in Tom's memory.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Herbert Fitzgerald

AFTON — Herbert Fitzgerald, 75, of Afton passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at his home.

Evelyn C. Utter

CHERRY VALLEY — Mrs. Evelyn C. Utter, 89, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at The Meadows, Cooperstown.

She was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Salt Springfield, the daughter of Sidney and Elsie (Whyland) Prime.

On Nov. 20, 1933, she married Almond Utter in Fort Plain.

She was a graduate of Springfield High School.

She worked for Beech-Nut Life Savers, Canajoharie. She was a member of the Cherry Valley Fire Department Auxiliary and the Cherry Valley Rebekah Lodge 546.

Survivors include her husband, Almond Utter; two sons and their wives, Dean and Karen Utter and Derwin and Rosada Utter, all of Cherry Valley; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

There will be no public calling hours.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at the Grace Episcopal Church, Cherry Valley, with Father Norman Sieme, retired pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Utter's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad, PO Box 504, Cherry Valley, NY 13320 or the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

James W. Garvin

FLY CREEK — A graveside committal service for James W. Garvin Jr., who died March 3, 2004, in Cooperstown, will be held at 1.:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Hartwick Cemetery, with Thomas E. Pullyblank, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
