Glenn R. Latta

LEEDS — Glenn R. Latta, 64, of Leeds died unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, April 17, 2004.

Mr. Latta was born on Sept. 25, 1939, in Conesville, to the late Ralph and Annott Chamberlin Latta.

He was a graduate of Cairo-Durham High School and owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Leeds from 1979 to 1999. He currently was employed as a welder with Taconic Farms in Germantown.

He was an avid woodworker and well-respected Rottweiler breeder for over a decade.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 21, at 11 a.m. in the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill, with the Rev. Vicky Eastland, pastor of the First Reformed Church, and the Rev. John J. Murphy, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, officiating.

Private cremation will follow in the Albany Rural Crematorium with interment of the cremains in the Colleburgh Cemetery.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Latta is survived by his four children, Mrs. Joseph (Laurel) Gerardi of Queensbury, Mrs. James (Lisa) Bercier of Long Island, Glenn R. Latta Jr. of Gouverneur, and Grant Latta of Leeds; two daughters-in-law, Trina Latta and Kelly Latta; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Nicholas, Sam and Joseph Gerardi of Queensbury, James, Matthew and Lucas Bercier of Long Island, Cooper and Gavin Latta of Gouverneur, and Alyssa Latta of Leeds; two brothers, Ronald Latta of Coxsackie and Wilford Latta of Gilboa; sister, Gail Forkan of Washington state; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, June Laux of Gilboa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greene Animal Welfare Alliance, PO Box 209, Athens, NY 12015.

Eugenie W. Call

COOPERSTOWN — Eugenie W. Call, 90, of Brunlar Court entered into eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, April 15, 2004, in her home.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1913, in Burlington, Vt., daughter of the late John and Eugenie Willetts Deyette.

Mrs. Call was raised in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School with the "Class of 1933."

A United States Navy veteran, she served our country proudly during World War II. She was honorably discharged in September of 1945 with the rank of Seaman 1st Class.

On June 20, 1945, she married Woodrow W. Call. After a loving and devoted union of 25 years, Mr. Call preceded her in death in March of 1970.

For 20 years Mrs. Call was a postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Northville, retiring in 1977. She came to Cooperstown in 1990, coming from Hope.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Gloversville. She was also a member since 1946 and past commander of American Legion Post No. 1076 in Northville.

To all that knew her, they will remember her warm smile.

Although Mrs. Call leaves no immediate relatives, she does leave many wonderful friends.

It was her wish that services and interment be private.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Congregational Church, Gloversville or the Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs.

Albeama Gabrosek

FLY CREEK — Mrs. Albeama E. Gabrosek, 74, of Fly Creek died Monday morning, April 19, 2004, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Albeama, or "Beamie" as she was known by her family and friends, was born on Aug. 11, 1929, in the town of Hartwick, a daughter of Willard and Ella (Southworth) McLean. Raised and educated in Hartwick, she led a life devoted to her family.

On July 15, 1968, she married Kenneth Gabrosek in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown. She enjoyed tending to their home and especially loved flower gardening and photography.

Beamie is survived by her loving and caring husband, Kenneth, of Fly Creek; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Carol McLean of Hartwick; two grandsons, Eddie and Chuckie McLean; four great-granddaughters, Jessica, Brenda, Amanda and Shelby; six sisters, Edna Ruland, Beatrice Crockford, Beulah Osborne, Columbine Oblak, Marjorie Snyder and Alberta Eastman; one sister-in-law, Miss Anna Gabrosek of Fly Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated later this week at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Northeastern New York Chapter, 1717 Central Ave., Suite 105, Albany, NY 12205.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Stanley Harrington

ONEONTA — Graveside committal services will be held for Stanley D. Harrington on Thursday, April, 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Jay Henderson officiating.

Mr. Harrington passed away on Jan. 29, 2004, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Barbara Christensen

WEST ONEONTA — Graveside services for Barbara Christensen, who died March 29, 2004, will be held on Friday, April 23, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Viola M. Dandignac

UNADILLA — A service to celebrate the life of Viola M. Dandignac, who died on Jan. 10, 2004, will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Kip Stratton, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Florence L. Crain

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florence Louise Crain, 53, of Jacksonville, passed away March 27, 2004.

Born in Cooperstown, she was the daughter of the late John J. Crain and Florence Smith Crain.

Surviving are two sisters, Patricia Knapp (Carl) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joyce Helmke (Richard) of Ocala, Fla.; three brothers, William Crain (Sally) of Elizabethtown, Richard Crain (Mary Ann) of Ilion, and John (Louise) of Phoenix, Ariz.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Christ Church, Jacksonville, Fla., and at the Herkimer Area Resource Center in Herkimer, on April 7, 2004.

Interment will be later in Cooperstown.

Martha A. Calvey

ONEONTA — Martha A. Calvey, 80, of Oneonta passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Pleasant Valley, the daughter of Riely and Viola (Evans) Goodrich.

She was married to Daniel T. Calvey, who died on Sept. 30, 1953.

A homemaker, Martha was a member of St. Mary's Church.

She is survived by a son, Robert B. Calvey of Sinclairville; a sister, Frances Matson of Binghamton; two brothers, George Goodrich of Florida, and Clifford Goodrich of Sioux City, Iowa; as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Martin Calvey in 2003.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Edith M. Cooley

ONEONTA — A committal service for Edith M. Cooley, who died on Feb. 4, 2004, will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodney Johnson officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Jennie Lambrecht

TROUT CREEK — Jennie C. Lambrecht, a lifelong resident of Trout Creek, died on Monday, April 19, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Mrs. Lambrecht was born July 13, 1907, in Trout Creek to William and Lena Brundage Finch.

She was a housewife and a member of the Royal Rockers in Trout Creek. She was a great mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Lambrecht is survived by her children, Leona Cilibrasi of New York City, Joanna Kennedy of Chatham, Edward Lambrecht of Franklin, and Judith McCall of Walton; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Family members who died earlier include her husband, Louis Anthony Lambrecht; and her children, Anthony Lambrecht, Phyllis Blaisdell and Evelyn Walker.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware Street, Walton.

Service will be at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Light of New Hope Community Church officiating. Interment at the Sidney Center Highland Cemetery.

Donations to the Trout Creek Emergency Squad in her name would be appreciated.

Doris A. Likewise

OTEGO — Doris Alice Likewise, 89, of Otego died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.

She was born in Deansboro, on Jan. 10, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Harriet (Sweet) Parry.

Doris was married to Jack Likewise, who passed away many years ago.

She had been employed by the New York State Division of Taxation and Finance in Albany, until her retirement 24 years ago. She was a resident of Otego for the past 10 years and formerly lived in Glenmont.

Doris is survived by her sisters, Beverly Naas of Pittsfield and Shirley Perry of Eaton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her brothers Edwin and Gordon Parry; and her sister, Mildred Aikins.

Doris requested that no calling hours or funeral services be held. A private memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Frank J. Weisser

COOPERSTOWN — Frank J. Weisser died at Bassett Healthcare on Monday, April 19, 2004.

He was born in New York City on Oct. 12, 1928.

Frank's family moved to Franklin Square, L.I., in 1929, where he grew-up and attended grade school and later Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park.

He worked at a hardware store in Hempstead, L.I., until he moved to Phoenix Mills in the 50s to live with his mom and pop. His father was employed for 25 years with Bell Labs before retiring and moving to Phoenix Mills.

His parents moved to Cooperstown in 1978, but Frank chose to stay on the Phoenix Mills property. He loved his van and working on his property.

Frank worked for 37 years in the Bassett Housekeeping Department. A few years ago, he entered Woodside Hall where he was well taken of by Peggy Hall and her staff.

He leaves behind a sister, Louise Weisser of Cooperstown; numerous cousins on Long Island and in Germany; and his friends in Cooperstown.

His dear cousin, Margaret, died recently, someone who gladly gave him her time when she visited.

Special thanks to all the Bassett people who helped with Frank's care, especially Dr. Dennis Savoie who was his long-time physician and Allan Schramm.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in St. Mary's Cemetery, Index.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Bassett, 1 Atwell Road., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Gladys B. Doig

WORCESTER — Gladys Benson Doig, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004, after a lengthy illness, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since November of 2000.

She was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Belvedere, Ill., the youngest of eight children, to Swedish emigrant parents, Gep and Elsa (Nelson) Benson, who moved from Sweden to Illinois in 1884 and 1885, respectively, then moved to Decatur in 1920.

Mrs. Doig attended a one-room schoolhouse until 13, then transferred to Worcester High School, graduating with the Class of 1928. She was also a graduate of Course Irving Hospital School of Nursing 1931.

She married Arthur B. Doig, the principal of Worcester Central School for more than 40 years, on June 30, 1931.

Mrs. Doig was active in both the Worcester First Presbyterian Church and the Worcester United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the Worcester Women's Club. As a fund-raiser for the Women's Club, she looked to her Swedish heritage, and for many years planned and oversaw a popular Swedish Smorgasbord. She was an active supporter of the Salvation Army, most especially its Thanksgiving gift of food baskets for the needy, and the American Red Cross, organizing the first Blood Bank to be held in Worcester, and remaining active in that program for many years thereafter.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald A. and Donna of Canton, William Arden and Ruby of Williamsburg, Va., and David J. and Diane of Savannah; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, in October of 1969, and an infant daughter, Elizabeth Anne, beloved to her parents and never forgotten.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Strang, pastor of the Worcester First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Contributions may be made to the Arthur B. and Gladys B. Doig Scholarship Fund, Worcester Central School Alumni Association, care of Barbara Ives, Treasurer, 200 Up County Road, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Vivian G. Hyde

MORRIS — Vivian Gertrude Hyde, 88, of Morris died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born in the Bronx, on June 16, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Loretta (Ryan) Keppie.

She married George Raymond Hyde Sr. on Sept. 19, 1937, in Yonkers, a marriage of 67 years.

She was a homemaker and had also been employed by the Manor House Estate in her younger years. She had resided in the Morris area since 1947.

Vivian is survived by her husband, George Raymond Hyde Sr. of Morris; her children, George Raymond Hyde Jr. of Morris, Wesley Hyde and wife Roseanne of Denver, Colo., and Loretta Exline of Wichita, Kan. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loretta Kelley of Long Island.

She is predeceased by a grandson, Michael Hyde; a granddaughter, Michelle Hyde; as well as a brother; and four sisters.

Calling hours will be held at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris on Friday, April 23, 2004, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time a funeral service will held with the Rev. John Burns officiating.

Internment will be at a later date in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.

It is the families request that in lieu of flowers, friends make contributions to the Morris Emergency Squad in her memory. Envelopes for this purpose are available at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
