Catherine M. "Kate" Welch, 86, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of 120 Grace St., Syracuse, died Saturday. She was a graduate of St. Lucy's Academy. She worked for New York Telephone and Syracuse city schools. She was a life member of St. Lucy's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Her husband, Joseph F. Welch, a son, John D. Welch, and a daughter, Mary K. Craig, died previously. Survivors: Two sons, Edward J. of Roanoke and James R. of Rochester; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church. Burial, St. Agnes Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 3700 W. Donald M. Arnold

Donald M. Arnold, 88, of 6961 Island Road, Cicero, died Saturday. He was born in New York City. He retired in 1975 as a tool engineer after 40 years. He was a member of The Industrial Club and the New Process Gear bowling team and golf league. He played trumpet for the Rhode Island Dance Band for many years. Survivors: His wife of 67 years, the former Margaret Fitch; four daughters, Lois Murphy of Big Moose, Mardi Arnold of East Syracuse, Sally A. Daniels of Renton, Wash., and Debbie Dennee of Spring Hill, Tenn.; a son, Thomas of Nelson; a sister, Elizabeth Arnold Williamson of Ponca City, Okla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services: Private. His body was donated to Upstate Medical University. No calling hours. Sehl Burns Funeral Service, Jamesville, has arrangements. Zachary M. Emerton

Zachary M. Emerton, 19, of Liverpool died Sunday. Born in Fort Bragg, N.C., he graduated from Liverpool High School in 2001. He was a freshman at the University of Buffalo in the computer engineering program. He worked at Wegmans on Route 57 in Liverpool for two years. In high school, he was a member of the Liverpool Marching Band and jazz band. He was a communicant of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Liverpool. Survivors: His mother, Deborah Hunt Emerton of Liverpool; his father, Roland Emerton of New Hartford; a sister, Clara L. Emerton of Liverpool; his paternal grandparents, Roland and Maryjean Emerton of Portsmouth, N.H.; his maternal grandparents, Tom and Sandra Hunt of Liverpool; his paternal great-grandmother, Priscilla Alvanos Tetreault of Greenland, N.H.; his maternal great-grandmother, Norma Schillinger Hunt of Baldwinsville. Esther Francisco Emm, 89, of Syracuse died Monday. Born in North Syracuse, she graduated from Syracuse University School of Music in 1936. She was a self-employed piano teacher for many years and was organist at St. Daniel's Church. Her husband, Albert, died in 1959. Survivors: Two daughters, Nancy and Pauline Emm, both of Liverpool. Services: 8:15 a.m. Friday at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Daniel's Church. Burial, Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 900 N. Luella S. Gaylord

Luella S. Gaylord, 84, of East Syracuse died Friday. Born in Otego, she lived in Syracuse since 1963. She retired in 1979 from Agway in DeWitt. She was a member of DeWitt Community Church and its Senior Ladies Circle. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Her husband, Robert, died in 1980. Survivors: Two daughters, Sandra Schnitzler of Cazenovia and Kathleen Reese of Quincy, Mass.; a brother, George Starr of Cooperstown; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Services: 4:30 p.m. Friday in DeWitt Community Church. Spring burial, Hillington Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church after the service. Lois Milliron Jensen, 74, of Baldwinsville died Tuesday. Born in Punxsutawney, Pa., she lived in Baldwinsville since 1962. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Baldwinsville. Her husband, Paul E., died in 1997; two sons also died previously, Eric in 1962 and Mark in 1990. Survivors: Seven daughters, Barbara Jensen of Syracuse, B. Jean McPeak of Solvay, Theresa Scaturro of Key Largo, Fla., Lynn Bellatreche of Madison, Wis., Mary L. Jensen of Fulton, Alison McGill of Binghamton and Amy Mercadante of Baldwinsville; three sons, Bryan M. and Warren V., both of Baldwinsville, and Andrew E. of Geneva; two sisters, Theresa Allshouse of Brookville, Pa., and Mary Lou Ramsey of Hawaii; two brothers, Warren Milliron of Niagara Falls and Richard Milliron of  West Virginia; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Augustine's Church. Burial, Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the church. Robert "Froggy" Kowalski, 68, of Syracuse died Thursday. He was born in Buffalo. He worked at McDonald's on South Crouse Avenue in Syracuse. He had worked at Hofmann Hot Haus in East Syracuse. He was equipment manager for the Syracuse Brigadiers Senior Corps and was a member of the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Drum Corps. Survivors: Several friends. Dr. Myron I. Lichtblau

Dr. Myron I. Lichtblau, 76, of DeWitt died Sunday. He was born in New York City. He graduated from City College of New York in 1947, received a master's degree in 1948 from the National University of Mexico and a doctorate in 1957 from Columbia University. He retired in 1998 as professor of Spanish and Latin American literature at Syracuse University and was a former chairman of the foreign language department. He was a member of Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas. He was former president of Rabbi Epstein Hebrew High School and editor of The Symposium Journal. He was author of 13 books and 150 articles specializing in Argentine literature. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in Europe. A son, Mark R., died in 1963. Survivors: His wife of 45 years, the former Bernice Glanz; a daughter, Anita Lichtblau of West Newton, Mass.; a son, Eric of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Jacqueline Dobkin of Staten Island; three grandchildren. Services and calling hours: Were in Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas. Birnbaum Funeral Service, Syracuse, has arrangements. Lelan G. Rogers, 80, of Ponce Inlet, Fla., died Feb. 25. Born in Fulton, he lived there until 1992. He graduated from Syracuse University. He retired in 1975 as co-owner of Riverside Dairy in Fulton. He was a former communicant of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Fulton. He was a life member of the American Numismatic Association and Florida United Numismatists. Survivors: His wife of 32 years, Katherine; three stepdaughters, Janice LaVeck of Fayetteville, Donna Rushak of Hannibal and Midge Fiori of North Syracuse; two stepsons, Charles LaVeck of Baldwinsville and Arthur LaVeck of Marriottsville, Md.; two sisters, Natalie Johnston of Fulton and Jaleen McKaig of Hot Springs, Ark.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Hildegard B. Findel Schwedes, 83, of Northrup Boulevard, Syracuse, died Monday. Born in Freiburg, Germany, she came to the United States in 1949 and lived in Somerville, N.J., until 1966, when she moved to Syracuse. She worked at Shop-Rite in Somerville and was a founding member of the Bavarian Club Almenrausch. She was a member of Arion Singing Society, Arion Ladies Auxiliary and German American Society of Central New York. Her husband, Gerhard, died in 1991. Survivors: Four sons, Gerhard and Rolf, both of Syracuse, J. Erik of Cincinnati and Herbert of Middletown, N.J.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Gang Memorial Chapel. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 104 Fordham Road, Syracuse.

Francene M. Walters Signor, 53, of Grove Street, Moravia, died Monday at Howd Nursing Home, Moravia. Born in Cortland, she attended Moravia schools. She was a secretary at Chronicle Guidance Publications in Moravia and had also worked at Cornell University and Cornell Credit Union. Her mother, Beatrice Walters, died in 1969. Survivors: Her husband of 33 years, John; a daughter, Pamela Raner of Locke; a son, Jeffrey of Buffalo; her father and stepmother, F. Norman and Gwen Walters of Interlaken; five sisters, Darlene Mulvaney and Norma Bancroft, both of Moravia, Irene Conklin of Locke, Kathleen Stayton of Groton and Audrey Krull of Auburn; four brothers, Greg and Frank Walters, both of Moravia, James Walters of Cortland and Anthony Walters of Interlaken; a grandson. Katharine L. Webster deClercq, 92, formerly of 42 Church St., Cortland, died Monday. She was born in Homer. She and her husband operated a grocery store on Tompkins Street in Cortland more than 15 years. She retired from A. Louis Men's Store in Cortland. She was a 50-year member of Memorial Baptist Church in Cortland and was its financial secretary and a deaconess for several years. Her husband, F. Lester, died in 1970. Survivors: A cousin, Edith Hall of Homer; a niece and a nephew. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial, Cortland Rural Cemetery.
