Laura L. Bourn

MERIDALE — Laura L. Bourn, 81, of "Peaceful Flats," Oneonta, a former longtime Meridale resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday morning, May 7, 2004, with the comfort of her loving family by her side, at home.

The daughter of the late John E. "Jack" and Lillian L. (Rhodes) Tuthill, she was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Hoboken, N.J., coming to Delaware County in 1931. She married Ernest L. Bourn of Treadwell on April 28, 1942.

A traditional homemaker, Laura was not only a wonderful mother, but became a "dad and best friend" to her daughters, as well, after the death of Mr. Bourn on March 8, 1959.

Laura enjoyed a variety of crafts, was a talented seamstress, attended NASCAR races in Charlotte, N.C., with her family, often watching the races after church on Sundays, too. Helping many, she had a special love for people, treasured her friendships and will be long remembered.

A member of the Delhi Alliance Church, she lived in Meridale for 56 years, moving to Oneonta in October 2003, where she attended the River Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Lillian and Robert Frisbie, Mary and Roger James, all of Lake Ariel, Pa., and Carol and George Couse of Oneonta; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Daniel (Mary) Johnson, Karen (Robert) Mooney, Stephen (Tammy) Johnson, Joseph (Dee) Fitch, Rusty James, Julie James, Kyle (Barry) James, Kim (Ron) Morse, Dee (Mel) Fuller, Roger (Ann) Frisbie, Walt (Karen) Frisbie and Donna (Michael) Harkins; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Grace) Tuthill of Delhi and Charles (Viola) Tuthill of Sidney; a sister-in-law, Beverly Tuthill Vergason of Greene; eight nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

She was pre-deceased by a brother, David Tuthill Sr.

Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 9, when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at the Delhi Alliance Church, with the Rev. David Wheatley and the Rev. Mel Farmer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catskill area Hospice or the Delhi Alliance Church.

Arrangements are entrusted Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Russell Z. Nasholds

BERNE — Memorial services for Russell Z. Nasholds, 88, who died Feb. 19, 2004, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Berne. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne.

Arrangements are by Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.

Joan B. Page

ONEONTA — Joan B. "Joanie" Page, 65, of Oneonta, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2004, at her residence, with her family at her side.

She was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Oneonta, the daughter of William H. and Ruth A. (Ruland) Whispell.

Joanie worked for a time for Kmart and for several years for KMS Plastics, as well as volunteering many hours for the women's auxiliary of the Moose and many other social functions.

She was a 40-year member of the Women of the Moose, and a past senior regent. Joanie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, jigsaw puzzles and talking on the phone to her many friends. She also treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody Page O'Neill of Otego, and a son, Ronald Page Jr. of Otego; her mother, Ruth Whispell of Oneonta; her longtime partner, Al Palmer of Oneonta; three grandchildren, Joshua Sandell, Shawn O'Neill and Dakota Storm Page; two brothers, Edward H. and Virginia "Ginny" Whispell of Laurens and Harry D. Whispell of Oneonta; her stepbrother, Anthony Fairbairn and friend, Patty, of Liberty; her former husband, Ronald W. Page Sr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Bruce McArdle, pastor of Susquehanna Valley Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until service time.

Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery, West Jefferson.

Joanie's family extends their appreciation for the loving care given to her by the staff at Bassett Hospital and the staff of Catskill Area Hospice. She loved you all.

It was Joanie's wish that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Elizabeth Dauchy

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Elizabeth L. Dauchy, 88, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away on March 5, 2004.

Elizabeth was born in Morris on April 26, 1915. She was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and taught junior and senior high school. She taught at Conniston Junior High for 16 years; was a member of the Retired Educators of Palm Beach County, the State of Florida Retired Teacher's Association and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Dauchy, and his wife, Lea, of Albany, Ga.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lake Worth, with the Rev. William E. Hamilton officiating.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at All Saints Chapel Cemetery, Morris.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Saints Chapel, Morris.

Jean Van Brink

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Jean Van Brink, 73, passed away Friday, May 7, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born May 2, 1931, in Unadilla, the daughter of Stewart and Mildred (Hall) Vroman.

On Dec. 19, 1953, she married Herbert (Tim) Van Brink in East Springfield. He predeceased her Nov. 24, 2002.

Jean was a graduate of the Oneonta High School, Class of 1949. She graduated from Cortland State Teachers College in 1953.

She was employed as a physical education teacher at Cherry Valley and Springfield central schools from 1960 to 1968. She worked as a kindergarten teacher for Springfield Central School from 1968 until her retirement in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Robert and Shannon Prime of Richfield Springs and James and Susan Wengenack of Delanson; two sons, Frank Van Brink of Somerville, N.J., and Bruce Van Brink of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Todd and Nathan Prime, Ashley, Courtney and Teddy Van Brink and Jared and Alissa Wengenack; sister, Harriet Cimko of Oneonta; a brother, James Vroman of Otego; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Herbert (Tim) Van Brink, she was predeceased by three brothers, Stewart, Robert and Richard Vroman.

There will be no public calling hours.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with Pastor Lyman Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Esther E. Ackerley

CHARLOTTEVILLE — Esther Elizabeth "Granny," Ackerley, 92, of Charlotteville, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Hobart, the daughter of Stephen O. and Elizabeth (Hoagland) Hillis.

Esther attended the District Four one-room schoolhouse until completion of the eighth grade.

She married Hugh Ackerley on Oct. 15, 1931, in the town of Kortright. He predeceased her April 14, 1983.

Moving to Charlotteville in 1947, Esther lived with her family until 2002, when poor health forced her to take up residence at Robinson Terrace. She was a member of the Charlotteville Methodist Church until its closing. She enjoyed visiting with people and sitting in the warm sunshine doing crossword puzzles.

Esther was predeceased by a brother, Harry Hillis, on April 26, 2002; her daughter, Marie Churchill, on June 5, 2003; and her son, John S. Ackerley, on March 3, 2004.

She will be remembered by her daughter-in-law, Doris Ackerley; son-in-law, Duane Churchill; and grandchildren, Diane (Churchill) Dick, Daniel, Douglas and Andrew Churchill, Dennis Ackerley, Jill (Ackerley) Fyfe, Jodi (Ackerley) Clapper and Paula (Sanflippo) Morrell. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 10, 2004, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery, South Kortright.

Donations in Esther's memory may be made to the Charlotteville Fire Department and/or Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Marion Eastwood

COOPERSTOWN — Graveside memorial and committal services for Mrs. Marion C. Eastwood, 94, who passed away Friday, April 9, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, with the Rev. Persis Williams officiating in the Springfield Center Cementery, Springfield Center. Burial will follow.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Andrea DiMatteo

ONEONTA — Andrea "Andy" DiMatteo, 88, of Oneonta passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born July 24, 1915, in Altofonte, Italy, the son of Joseph and Maria (Amato) DiMatteo. Andy immigrated here from Italy in 1937 and soon became an American citizen.

He married Edna Tompkins Schwartz on Sept. 23, 1967.

For a period of 27 years, prior to his retirement, he worked on the D&H railroad. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and a former member of the Oneonta Eagles Club and Sixth Ward Athletic Club.

Andy enjoyed dancing, traveling, as well as being an avid card player. He also took great pleasure in his automobiles, which he kept in A-1 condition.

He was very proud of his family, and greatly enjoyed all of the family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Schwartz DiMatteo, of Oneonta; a sister-in-law, Anita Sturiale of Corning; his nieces and nephews, Tom Sturiale of Framingham, Mass., Joseph Zummo of Norwich, Rose Marie Zummo Bratland of Bethesda, Md., Charles Carman of Oneonta, Casmiro "Jack" Zummo Jr. of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Zummo of Oneonta; a cousin, Ann Cortese of Pearl River. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, both in Italy and the United States.

He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Sturiale; three sisters, Frances Carman, Anna Sciortino and Catherina Zummo; two nephews, Samuel Zummo and Frank Sturiale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Daniel J. Horton

WALTON — Daniel J. Horton, 69, of Walton passed away at home suddenly Saturday evening, May 8, 2004.

Dan was born in Great Neck, Long Island, on March 28, 1935.

He was a heavy equipment operator, employed by the village of Kings Point, Long Island.

In 1991, he moved to the Walton area. He attended Trout Creek Community Church. He was a former member of the Alert's Fire Department, Great Neck, the Fire Department Benevolent Association and a member of the Alert's Fire Department race team.

On Aug. 22, 2003, he married the former Barbara Francisco in Trout Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Horton; a son, Brian and Terry Horton, of Great Neck, L.I.; a daughter, Laura and Gary Fraraccio of Maspeth, L.I.; a stepson, Duane and Kelly Rosa, Summit Point, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Kristie and Scott Polomcean of Trout Creek; the mother of his children, Genevieve Munnelly of Long Island; four grandchildren, Alexandra Horton, Abigail Rosa, Justin and Kolby Polomcean; two brother- and sisters-in-law, Jackie and Linda Sulla, Great Neck, and Cecelia and Richard Northrup, Walton; stepmother-in-law, Beulah Francisco, Delhi; stepfather-in-law, Howard Robinson, Franklin.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions in Dan's memory may be made to the Walton EMS. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Nick Sank

SIDNEY — Nick Sank, 89, of Sidney passed away Friday, May 7, 2004, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

He was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Czechoslovakia, to Michael and Mary (Vislocky) Senk, and immigrated to the United States with his mother and brother in the 1920s.

Nick married Margaret Sicora on Sept. 12, 1937, in Queens. She predeceased him on March 27, 1991.

Nick is also predeceased by a son, Nicholas Sank, and daughter-in-law, Irene Dean.

He was employed as an engineer for Local Union 32B32J Building Services in New York City when he retired.

Nick is survived by his brother, Michael Sank, Belmar, N.J.; sisters, Annie Svenda, Brooklyn, N.J., Katie Verpert, Lake Ariel, Pa., Helen Zwarych, Floral Park, and Julie Galaga, Bellrose; grandchildren, Irene Vermilyea and Vincent A. Luca III, Manchester, N.H., Donna and Corey Dean, Masonville, Kimberly Becker, Manchester, N.H., Ludwig Becker III and Kirsten Lanfair, Manchester, N.H., Amy Dean and Charles Heap, Christina Dean and Steve Eastwood, Masonville, and Debra Sank, Brooklyn; goddaughter, Kathleen Brewster; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 10, 2004, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Sidney, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Jozef Antonowicz

MIDDLEFIELD CENTER — Mr. Jozef L. Antonowicz (Joe Anton), 51, of Middlefield Center died late Friday morning, May 7, 2004, at Little Falls Hospital, following a long illness.

Jozef was born on Sept. 14, 1952, in Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside, Long Island, a son of Edwin Z. and Wanda R. (Nasierowski) Antonowicz.

Jozef, a self-employed electrician, was known as Joe Anton. Joe's business, Anton Electric, has served Cooperstown and the surrounding area for more than 25 years.

He is survived by his parents, Edwin and Wanda Antonowicz of Middlefield Center; his daughter, Kelly Jo, of Cooperstown; his older brother, Edwin Jr. and his wife, Mary, and their son, Justin, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; his companion, Christine Benson; his uncle, Edward Nasierowski in Arizona; his aunt, Janie Nasierowski of Cooperstown; and his cousins and friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Art Derouin for his help and concern during their time of need.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, when Jozef's family will be in attendance.

Private interment will take place at the family plot in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Leslie B. Boutcher

UNADILLA — Leslie B. Boutcher, 66, of Unadilla passed away Saturday, May 8, 2004, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born June 17, 1937, son of the late James and Indabella (Way) Boutcher in Patchogue.

Leslie served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1962. He married Cecelia Attrino on June 24, 1955, on Long Island.

Mr. Boutcher was employed as a salesman for York Rake in Unadilla when he retired in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cecelia Boutcher, Unadilla; son, Victor Boutcher, Michigan; daughter, Yolanda Boutcher, Oneonta; grandchildren, Jacqueline Boutcher, Anthony Wright and Cindy Wright, all of Unadilla; Chelsea Leonard and Amanda Koeppe of Oneonta; Harley Swift, Unadilla, and Cody Tiffany, Unadilla; two brothers, John and Susan Kirchner, Connecticut, and James Kirchner, Long Island; three sisters, Judy Carman, Florida, Colleen Fava, South Carolina, and Virginia Watts, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also predeceased by two brothers, James and George Boutcher, and sister, Edith Alden.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, in the funeral chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc. Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838.
