Florence M. Whittenburg

ONEONTA — Florence M. Whittenburg, 91, of Oneonta passed away, Thursday, May 27, 2004, at her residence.

She was born June 30,1912, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Walters) Lotter.

She married Ludwig Larson in 1932 and later married Guy Whittenburg in 1956. They both predeceased her.

Florence worked as a clerk for Suburban Propane in Richfield Springs for 23 years and retired in 1974.

For 15 years, she lived Clairemont Oaks, a senior citizen highrise in Decatur, Ga.

Florence was very active at Clairemont Oaks and enjoyed her work as a volunteer. In July 2003, she and her daughter moved back to New York. Florence was a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Larson of Oneonta; her granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Kevin Stanton of Oneonta; her two great-granddaughters, Dana Greene and Kylee Stanton, both of Oneonta; her niece, Matilda Barrett and her family of Peachtree City, Ga., and her nephew, John Viehmann and his family of South Carolina.

Florence was predeceased by her sister, Matilda Viehmann, and her nephew Frank Viehmann.

A service to celebrate the life of Florence M. Whittenburg will be held on Tuesday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at the West Oneonta Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Thurber officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Oneonta Baptist Church, County Route 8, West Oneonta NY 13861, in loving memory of Florence M. Whittenburg.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Dorothy E. "Dottie" Schreher

WALTON — Dorothy E. "Dottie" Schreher, 82, of Walton, a lifelong resident, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, after an 18-month battle with cancer at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton.

Mrs. Schreher was born in Walton on Aug. 21, 1921, to Ruth Kemp.

She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Walton Fire Department.

Mrs. Schreher loved animals, traveling to Florida with "Red" in the winters and around the countryside the rest of the year. She always put others before herself and she enjoyed her Saturday morning coffee at T.A.'s restaurant.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Laverne "Red" Schreher; and several nieces and nephews.

Her brother, Robert Kemp, and sister, Helen Ireland, predeceased her.

Mrs. Schreher's family is very grateful to the staff at Delaware Valley Hospital and to Catskill Area Hospice for their wonderful care during Dottie's illness.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, in the Walton Cemetery with the Rev. Mario Gazzilli officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Walton Emergency Squad, 61 West St., Walton, NY 13856 or Catskill Area Hospice, 116 Main St., Delhi, NY 13753.

Arrangements are by Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., Walton.

Charlotte E. Baker

DELHI — Charlotte E. Baker, 95, of Delhi, formerly of Walton, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center.

Mrs. Baker was born April 4, 1909, in Franklin, to Henry and Anna Smith Cole. She married Franklin Baker in Walton. He predeceased her in 1963.

Mrs. Baker lived in Delhi for the last nine years. Before that she lived in Walton.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and attended the First United Methodist Church in Walton.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her children, Susan (Stephen) Brainard of Walton; Katherine (Charles) Mack of Norwich; Pricilla (Ken) Lewis of Orlando, Fla.; and Franklin (Audrey) Baker of Orlando, Fla.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Her brothers and sisters predeceased her.

Her family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at which time a funeral service will be held at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home with the Rev. Peggy Fabrizio officiating.

Interment will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Roland J. Washburn

UNADILLA — Roland J. Washburn, 91, of Unadilla, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004, at his home.

He was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Roscoe, the son of Archie and Mary (Buchanan) Washburn.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Unadilla for many years before his retirement.

Roland was a member of Joyce-Bell Post No. 578 American Legion of Unadilla and the Otego Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sister, Louella Washburn, of Unadilla, his brother, Harold Washburn, of Unadilla; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Craig Merritt, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, June 1, from noon until service time at 1 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, Funeral Directors.

Timothy Vaughan

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Timothy M. Vaughan, 43, of Escondido, Calif., unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 12, 1961, in Oneonta, the son of James T. and Patricia (Lee) Vaughan. His mother predeceased him on Oct. 16, 2004. Tim always had a great love of life.

He is survived by his 17 year-old son, Shawn Patrick Vaughan, of White City, Kan.; father, James T. Vaughan of Oneonta; and sister, Caprice C. Gaisford and her husband, Frank, of Oneonta.

At Tim's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Robert C. White

ONEONTA — A service to celebrate the life of Robert C. White, 82, who died Dec. 10, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the First United Presbyterian Church, Oneonta, corner of Walling Avenue and Main Street, by Friendly's. The family will greet friends from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. A reception will follow the service.

For those unable to attend the service, the family will greet friends for fellowship and a light supper at the Little Red School Community Club House, 516 County Highway 11, between West Oneonta and Laurens, from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening.

Stuart E. McGowan

Stuart E. McGowan, 82, formerly of North Main Street, Broadalbin, died Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.

He was born in Stratford on September 4, 1922 a son of Earl and Gwendolene Pritchard McGowan and was a 1939 graduate of Stratford High School. Mr. McGowan resided in Broadalbin since 1945.

In 1946, he opened an auto repair shop in Broadalbin and was joined in 1955 by his brother, Jake. Together, they operated McGowan Brothers Garage until retiring in 1988.
Mr. McGowan was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 337 in Broadalbin.

Mr. McGowan enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, and spending time at his hunting camp in Stratford.

He was married to the former Mildred Dingman McGowan on September 1, 1946. She died on October 18, 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Canfield and her husband William of Broadalbin, and Deborah Bovee and her husband Wayne of Gloversville, a brother, Harold "Jake" (Arlene) McGowan of Broadalbin; two sisters, Doris (Rudolph) Persico of Johnstown, and June (Clarence) Dilling of Lake City, Fl.; four grandchildren, Sharine Canfield, William Canfield, Erin Baker and Kelsey Bovee; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private service will be held on Tuesday at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility - 2nd Floor, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin.

Anna M. Lallo

Mrs. Anna M. Lallo, 97, formerly of Kingsboro Towers, Gloversville, N.Y., passed away Thursday evening, April 21, 2005 at Wells House Nursing Home, Johnstown, N.Y., where she had resided since March 30. She was born Jan. 13, 1908 in Gloversville, N.Y., the daughter of Salvatore and Josephine Robustelli Topo. On Nov. 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Lallo Sr., who passed away in March of 1997. Mrs. Lallo attended Gloversville schools and for many years, was employed as a glove worker for Vertucci Gloves. She was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and was a very active bingo player.

Mrs. Lallo is survived by a son, Joseph A. Lallo Jr. of Johnstown; a daughter, Delores Sanders of Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Laverdure and two brothers, Victor and Louis Topo.

There will be no calling hours. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospice. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, N.Y. Arrangements are by the John W. Finocan Funeral Home.

Robert A. Brown Sr.
Thursday, April 27, 2006
Mr. Robert A. Brown Sr., 75, of Broadway, Fonda and Sebring, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville with his family by his side.

Born on September 25, 1930 in Montreal, Canada, he was the only son of the late Clarence and Eileen Brown. When Bob was 11, he moved to the United States and has been an area resident for the past 55 years.

In 1949, he graduated from Scotia High School; he then went into the Air National Guard, where he began a 40-year career. Bob served in active duty as well as in the guard, stationed at the Stratton Air National Guard Base, 109th Airlift Wing. He was an aviation technician and served for a time with the air base fire department.
Bob was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Johnstown and was also a member of the Elks Club in Florida. He enjoyed his time in the guard, and loved his time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His loving family includes his wife, the former Madeline Leggiero, whom he married on October 28, 1951; one daughter, Beth Morris and her husband Brian of Saratoga, NY; two sons, Robert Brown Jr. and his wife Gail of St. Louis, MO and Barto Brown and his wife Elizabeth of Johnstown, NY; seven grandchildren, Alyssa. Barto II, Megan, Cody, Robert III, Brian Turner and Mary Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Avery.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Warren Street, Johnstown with Fr. James T. Fitzmaurice, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson with full military honors. Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Michael D. Edwards

Michael D. Edwards, 40 of Fox Hill Road, Edinburg died Monday February 20, 2006 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday April 29, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the St. Ann's Cemetery in Wells, NY with Father Paul Kelly officiating.

Robert A. Estes

Robert A. Estes, 70, of Currytown Road, Sprakers, passed away Sunday evening at home with his loving family by his side.

Born on October 31, 1935, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Crockett Estes. He was a lifelong resident and attended local schools.

On February 13, 1953 at the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean Conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After three years of service, he was honorably discharged on November 2, 1956.
Bob was employed over 35 years for Planters-Lifesavers Company in the maintenance department. He was a member of the 25-Year Club for Lifesavers, where he served on the Planning Committee. He was also a member of the Randall Christian Church and a former member and past president of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

On May 10, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Rosetta Cook; that loving union lasted 47 years.

His loving family includes his wife; two sons, Allen Estes and his wife Barbara Jo of Vail Mills, NY and Tom Estes of Randall, NY; two sisters, Rose Marie Ring and her husband Richard of Rotterdam, NY and Kathy Smith and her husband Douglass of Sprakers, NY; three brothers, Vernon Estes and his wife Joan of Clifton Park, NY, Harold Estes and his wife Shirley of St. Johnsville, NY and Paul Estes and his wife Debbie of Palm Bay, Florida; two grandchildren, Christian Weaver of Washington, D.C. and Michelle Barde of Albany, NY; one great-uncle, Phil Estes and his wife Charlotte of Sloansville, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Randall Christian Church, Rt. 5S, Randall with the Rev. Eric Handel presiding. Interment will take place in the Fordsbush Cemetery with full military honors. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 12 to 1 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 1192 State Hwy. 162, Sprakers, NY 12166.

Richard Little

Mr. Richard Little, 70, of Gloversville, died March 19, 2006. Mr. Little was employed as a sous chef for the Russian Tea Room in New York City. He also served in the Army during 1958. His memberships include the Ida McGinnis Seniors, Shirley Luck Seniors, YMCA, Martial Arts & Me, and the Foster Grandparents of Fulton County. Mr. Little was also a rodeo enthusiast and enjoyed crafts, especially Indian jewelry. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth L. Salierno Little of Gloversville; his children, Nicole Little and Jennifer Little, both of Gloversville, Elizabeth Battista of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Dawn Hurst of Mayfield, Judy Hausler of Ledyard, Ct., Kenneth Hurst of Northville and Edward Hurst of Mayfield. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 29, at 12 noon at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked those who wish to please consider a donation to the trust account established at NBT Bank, Gloversville for Nicole and Jennifer Little. Emma K. Sturm

Emma K. Sturm, 90, of Liverpool, NY and formerly of Schenectady, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006 with her family beside her. Born in Ephratah, NY, Emma lived in Schenectady, NY for most of her life before moving to Liverpool 3 1/2 years ago. She was the Head Payroll Clerk in the Attorney Generals Office in Albany for many years before retiring in 1981. She was a member and past president of the Rotterdam Lioness Club and also a member and past President of the Women's Democratic Club in Rotterdam.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Edith Yeldon; a sister, Margaret Farhart; 4 grandchildren, Connie (Dan) Ager, Thomas (Tammy) Yeldon Jr., Michael (Kathy) Yeldon and Jeffrey Yeldon; a niece, Joni (Calvin) Dennie; a grandniece, Shannie Dennie; seven great-grandchildren, Nicole, Danny, Jeremy, T.J., Jennifer, Brian and Catrina; and one great-great-grandchild, Haley.

Funeral services were held in March in North Syracuse, NY. Burial will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY.
Contributions in her name may be made to the Schenectady Lions Club.
