Lawrence P. Basso

WORCESTER — Lawrence P. Basso Sr., 54, went to heaven on Sunday, July 18, 2004, after a battle with an illness.

He was born March 15, 1950, in Brooklyn, the son of Anthony and Rose (Lacerra) Basso.

Larry married Antoinette Luca on Dec. 17, 1977, in Brooklyn.

He graduated with honors from the State University College at Cobleskill, with a degree in micro computer support systems.

Larry worked at the Oneonta Job Corp. for 14 years and was also employed at Gable Dodge in Cobleskill in the auto sales department.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Antoinette Basso, of Worcester; three sons, Edward and his wife, Kimberly Basso, Lawrence Basso Jr. and Matthew Basso, all of Worcester; a brother, Ralph and his wife, Eileen Basso of Worcester; his father-in-law, Silvio Luca; brother-in-law, Edward and his wife, Mary Luca; two sisters-in-law, Florence and her husband, Edward Angelone and Marie and her husband, Anthony Ricciardi; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Jeffrey L’Arch as celebrant.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Larry to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760 or the Worcester Emergency Squad, PO Box 191, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Isabelle S. Aney

MILFORD — Isabelle S. Aney, 88, formerly of Route 28, Milford, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Exton, Pa.

She was born May 21, 1916, in Oneonta, the daughter of Ralph and Isabelle (Shippie) Strait.

She graduated from Milford Central School in 1935, and thereafter resided in the Milford area.

She was a 30-year employee of the United States Government Conservation Service in Cooperstown.

Isabelle married Kenneth Aney on July 20, 1937, in Westville. Kenneth predeceased her in 1986, she was also predeceased by her two brothers, William Strait and Donald Strait.

Surviving is her daughter, Jackie Dwyer, Jackie’s husband, Bill, and their five children, Rick Green of Westchester, Pa., Shelly Bressler and her husband, Rick, of Bowling Green, Ohio, Scott Green and his wife, Suzanne, of Parksburg, Pa., Shaun Green of Downingtown, Pa., and Brian Dwyer and his wife, Annmarie, of Exton. She is also survived by her seven beloved great-grandchildren, Rick’s three children, Ivy, Kenny and Carl, Shelly’s daughter, Courtney, Scott’s two children, Sarah and Kristin, and Shaun’s son, Shaun Jr.

Isabelle and Kenneth had a camp on Goodyear Lake for many years where they always enjoyed entertaining their family and friends. They were both avid fishermen and spent many, many hours together on the lake. Their love of fishing is a gift they imparted to the members of their family.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 21, at noon at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Pioneer Street, Cooperstown, by the Rev. Robert Kazinski, of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends before the funeral service from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Milford Center Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Helen F. Daniels

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Helen F. (Carr) Daniels passed away on July 16, 2004, at the age of 93.

She was the wife of the late Richmond Daniels.

Helen was the mother of Philip Daniels of Attleboro, Mass., Steven Daniels of Albion, Larry Daniels of New Hartford, Elizabeth "Betty" Daniels of Christiansburg, Va., Joan Hoffman of Ft. Lauderdale, Ruth Daniels of Tucson, Ariz.; and the late Horace Daniels and Mary Carpenter. She was the grandmother of 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Norma Collins of Unadilla; the aunt of two nieces and four nephews.

She resided on Ridgehill Road, Attleboro, Mass., and was formerly of Daytona Beach and the Otego-Oneonta area.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Attleboro.

Private burial will be in the Christ Union Cemetery, Trumbauersville, Pa.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2004, in the "Robinson Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Albert Morse

MARGARETVILLE — Albert Daniels "Dan" Morse, 79, of Margaretville passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla.

He was born on April 22, 1925, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Charles Morse and Grace Carlson.

He married Katherine McAuliffe on Aug. 21, 1948, in Walla Walla, Wash.

He was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, and served in World War II.

He earned his B.A. at Whitman College in Walla Walla, and his M.A. at Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

Before moving to Margaretville, Dan taught for two years in Wytopitlock, Maine. He taught social studies at Margaretville Central School for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed teaching and enjoyed his students.

He served on the Town Board, MARK Board and the Fairview Library Board and he belonged to the Town of Middletown Democratic Club.

He looked forward each year to fishing in the Adirondacks and Maine, with friends and some former students. He enjoyed woodworking and lived the last 45 years in the home he built single-handedly.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Morse, Margaretville; his three children, Roger W. Morse, Binghamton, Deborah E. Morse, Portland, Ore., and Gordon F. Morse, Las Cruces, N.M.; two brothers, Charles A. Morse, Anapolis, Md., and Gerald R. Morse, Warwick, Mass.; and three nephews and one niece.

There will be no formal funeral service at this time. A committal service will be held in Warwick, Mass., at a later date.

Friends and former students of Dan are invited to share their memories with the family at the following times from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fairview Library or the Margaretville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Miriam S. Failla

SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Miriam S. Failla, 87, of South Kortright passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the South Kortright Rest Home.

She was born Miriam Estella Isabelle on Dec. 29, 1916, in the town of Middletown, the daughter of George M. and Esther (Bell) Sturdevant.

She lived in several Delaware County towns during her childhood, including Hobart and Delhi.

As a young woman, Miriam was employed by the Gerry Estate at Little Delaware as a housekeeper and cook. She followed Senator Peter G. Gerry, as an employee, from Rhode Island to Providence and Washington, D.C. Miriam also worked for the Pearlman family of Yonkers in a similar capacity and always spoke fondly of them. It was there that she met and married Angelo S. Failla on March 25, 1950. Miriam and Angelo later moved to Peekskill, where after nine years of marriage they divorced.

Miriam moved back to Delhi in 1968, and returned to work primarily as a cafeteria worker for Delaware Academy and Central School. She retired after 11 years of services and many lunches prepared. She continued to work part-time, first with Delhi Senior Meals as a member of Green Thumb and later as a dispatcher for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative.

Miriam was a longtime member of the Delhi Baptist Church and served as their treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She enjoyed country music, crafts and her many pet cats; most notably "Mr. P" and "Skyler," her last feline friends.

The many quilts she made for her family were sewn with pure love and she will be sadly missed by friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Dyer of Vernal, Utah; and adopted son, Leonard Failla of Delhi; six grandchildren, Toni Lee, Richard, Curtis, Cathy, Utah and David; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Pollard of Marcellus and Helen Utter of Delhi; and a brother, George Sturdevant of Delhi.

She was predeceased by a sister, Elma, in her childhood years.

Memorial services in celebration of Miriam’s life will be held at the Delhi First Baptist Church on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Staples officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory can be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753; the Delhi First Baptist Church or Delhi Senior Meals.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Anna Luise Gloss

ONEONTA — Anna Luise Gloss, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born in Jettenbach, Germany, on March 2, 1911, the fifth child of 11 children born to Frederich and Ida Faul. As a young adult she immigrated to the United States and in 1937, she married Otto Gloss at the First German Methodist Episcopal Church of Philadelphia, Pa. They were together for 62 years, and after his death in 2000, Anna relocated to Oneonta, and became a resident at the Robynwood Adult Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Helene Gabel and her husband, Heinz, of Philadelphia, Honey Young and her husband, Phil, of Oneonta; five grandchildren, Lisa Dickens, John Gabel, Courtney Young, Caitlyn Young, and Benjamin Young; and five great-grandchildren, Tina, Jessie and Scott Dickens, and Johnny and Jimmy Gabel.

Friends are invited to gather for a service celebrating her life at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Clemow officiating.

Burial will be later in the week at the Northwood Cemetery, Philadelphia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s memory may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Clara J. Brechbuhl

MILFORD — Mrs. Clara J. Brechbuhl, 84, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, in Grinnell, Iowa.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1920, in Milford, a daughter of Earl and Ella (Olds) Kilts.

Her first marriage was to Cecil Richard Reynolds, later divorced. She later married Rudolph Brechbuhl, who predeceased her.

She moved from Milford to Brooklyn, Iowa, in 1992 to be closer to family there.

Clara is survived by a daughter, Joan and Robert Wing of Morris; two brothers, Bill and Ceylon Kitts of Milford; two sisters, Dorothy Konchar of Maryland and Ruby Chase of Milford; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; son, Cecil Richard Reynolds; daughter, Sandra; three brothers; and two sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2004, at the Westville Cemetery, with the Rev. John Young officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Neal G. Williams

OTEGO — Neal G. Williams Sr., 76, of Otego passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Carmel, one of 12 children born to John and Bonnie (Whitlock) Williams.

He married Juvenile "Judy" Valmores on July 9, 1947.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines.

For a period of 24 years, Neal was a heavy-equipment operator for the town of New Lisbon, and after his retirement he worked for Webster Paving.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, and before that he was a 16-year member of St. Mary’s Church in Katonah and its Holy Name Society.

Because of their devotion to the Blessed Mother, he and his wife, Judy, promoted the annual rosary rally held in their former home in New Lisbon for a period of 19 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Williams, of Otego; his children and their spouses, Jamie and Shirley Williams of Allentown, Pa., and Neal and Julianne Williams Jr. of Tuscon, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Angelique Grandizio of McLean, Va., Amy Jo Hodley of Nazareth, Pa., Brandon J. Williams of Tuscon, Kathleen Roth and Christine Roth of Allentown; his great-grandchildren, Leah Nicole, Natasia Hodley, Brett and Krystle Roth and Tanner Hilagas. He is also survived by a sister, Hazel Lopez of Spring Hill, Fla.; and two brothers, James Williams of Katonah and Joseph Williams of Danbury, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mother Seton Scholarship Fund, care of Judy Williams.

Helen F. Daniels

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Helen Francelia (Carr) Daniels, 93, of Ridgehill Road, Attleboro, died on Friday, July 16, 2004, at Pleasant Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Attleboro, where she had been a patient since Tuesday, July 13, 2004.

She was the wife of the late Richmond Daniels, to whom she was married in 1928, and who died in 1976.

Born in the town of Butternuts on Oct. 4, 1910, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen North (Converse) Carr.

She resided in Attleboro for 10 years, moving to Massachusetts from Daytona Beach, Fla., after spending most of her life in the Otego-Oneonta area of New York.

Mrs. Daniels worked at The Scintilla in Sidney during World War II. She and her husband then operated the Daniels Pony Farm in Otego and Southside Oneonta in the 1950s and 1960s. The couple gave pony rides at many local fairs, carnivals and other social activities. For several years they gave pony rides on the second floor of Bresee’s Department Store at Christmas time.

She was active in the Vale Hannah Rebekah Lodge of Otego and was a volunteer 4-H leader. She enjoyed traveling, letter-writing and watercolor painting. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Attleboro, and was a member of the Parmenter Circle of the church.

Mrs. Daniels is survived by three sons, Philip Daniels of Attleboro, Steven Daniels of Albion and Larry Daniels of New Hartford; three daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Daniels of Christiansburg, Va., Joan Hoffman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Ruth Daniels of Tucson, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Collins of Unadilla; and two nieces and four nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Carpenter, in 1995; a son, Horace, in 1939; and a great-grandson, Theodore Arnold.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church, corner of North Main Street and Sanford Avenue, Attleboro, with the Rev. Linda Grenfell officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Union Cemetery, Trumbauersville, Pa.

Verna Livingston

BAINBRIDGE — Verna Mae Livingston, 90, of Bainbridge passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Binghamton General Hospital.

She was born Jan. 4, 1914, daughter of the late Edwin and Edna (Morgan) Earl in Unadilla. Verna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bainbridge.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Livingston, Norwich; son and daughter-in-law, James and Joan Macumber, Winter Haven, Fla.; two daughters, Carol Macumber, Binghamton, and Shirley Macpherson, Newbury, Calif.; a stepson, Phillip Livingston, Bainbridge; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is also predeceased by a brother, Everett Earl; and two sisters, Marion Caswell and Evelyn Moore.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at their convenience at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Fausto Panaro

DAVENPORT — Fausto Panaro, 57, formerly of Mamaroneck, died peacefully, Monday, July 19, 2004, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born July 25, 1946, in Malvito, Italy, the son of Francesco and Giovanni (Gallo) Panaro.

Fausto married Domenica Mumoli on Oct. 20, 1968, in Harrison.

He was a lifelong dedicated store manager. His most recent employment was with Quikway in West Davenport.

Moving from Harrison, Fausto was a 14-year area resident. He enjoyed lawn care and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Fausto is survived by his wife, Domenica, of West Davenport; a daughter, Lydia, and her husband, Francis Camarata, of Davenport; a son, Anthony, and his wife, Jennifer Panaro, of Harrison; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Anthony Panaro of Harrison; a brother, Nick, and his wife, Carmela Panaro, of Mamaroneck; a sister, Antoinette, and her husband, Nick Nocito, of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and very special friends.

He was predeceased by both of his parents.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Services will also be held in Mamaroneck.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Fausto to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
