He graduated from Parish High School in 1927 and received a master's degree in education from Syracuse University in 1934. He retired in 1969 as principal and a teacher at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School after 35 years. His wife of 45 years, the former Elizabeth Schramp, died in 1985. Survivors: Two daughters, Judy Stahl of Pittsford and Betsy McLane of Syracuse; a son, James of Parish; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter Funeral Home, 2983 W. Main St., Parish. Burial, West Amboy Cemetery. A reception will be held at DG's Candlelight Restaurant. No calling hours. Mary A. Brunner Matteson, 79, of Camillus died Monday. Born in Canton, Ohio, she lived in Camillus 39 years. She played trumpet in an all-girls orchestra for the United Service Organization during World War II. She was a Girl Scout leader for 20 years, a member of Fairmount Community Church and a former member of Westvale Golf Club. Survivors: Her husband of 55 years, George C.; a daughter, Mary Jo Brothers of Waddell, Ariz.; a son, Scott of Midlothian, Va.; a brother, Herb Brunner of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Friday in Fairmount Community Church. Calling hours, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Paul H. Peach

Paul H. Peach, 82, of North Syracuse died Tuesday. Born in Gary, Ind., he attended Vocational High School and recently received his diploma as part of the state Certificate of Recognition Program for Veterans. He retired in 1987 as a special services technician for Nynex after 42 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero and a former member of Classic Bowling League and Frank Orcutt Memorial Golf League. He was an Army Signal Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. A son, Paul F., died in 1986. Survivors: His wife of 35 years, the former Patricia Smokaluk; three daughters, Nancy McDermott of Cicero, Judith Smith and Susan Rowe, both of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandchildren. Services: 9:15 a.m. Friday at Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. Gary L. Perkins Sr

Gary L. Perkins Sr., 54, of 416 W. Railroad St., Oneida, died Monday. Born in Oneida, he attended Oneida High School. He worked at Madison-Cortland ARC and had worked at the former Lerman's Furniture, Oneida. He was of the Episcopal faith and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors: A son, Gary L. Jr. of Vernon; his mother, Ethel Perkins of Oneida; two sisters, Eleanor Grems and Joan Edick, both of Oneida; three brothers, Mark and Andy, both of Oneida, and George of Cleveland; two grandchildren. Clarence Z. Spady Sr., 59, of 115 DeLong Ave., Syracuse, died Monday. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., he attended public schools in New Jersey and graduated from Central Technical High School. He retired in 1999 as an automobile mechanic after many years. He had worked at Fast Eddie's, S and F Autos, General Electric Co. and Crucible Specialty Metals. He was an Army veteran. Survivors: His wife of 39 years, Lois; three daughters, Shan  Jones of Trenton, Michelle Spady and Charisse Frazier, both of Syracuse; three sons, Clarence Jr., Melvin III and Gregory, all of Syracuse; four sisters, Patricia Thompson, Lila Wingate, Denise Wingate and Sonya Ryans, all of Syracuse; two brothers, Bruce Wingate and Clifford Ryans, both of Syracuse; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Ina J. DeMars Ray, 77, of Orlando, Fla., died April 12 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Born in Oswego, she lived in Pennellville 16 years, moving away in 1987. She retired in 1986 from market research after more than 25 years. Her first husband, John Coyne, died in 1970; her second husband, Roger Ray, died in 1999. She retired in 1974 as police matron of the Syracuse Police Department and Onondaga County Sheriff's Department after 13 years. She had also worked for Easy Washer Co. Her husband, Walter E., died in 1972. Survivors: Four daughters, Suzanne Frega of Fairport, Roxanne Paradis and Frances Sass, both of Florida, and Cynthia Barbuto of Camillus; a son, George of Bridgeport; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandson. Calvin L. Groover, 93, of Liverpool died Wednesday. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., he lived in Elizabethtown, Pa., before moving to Liverpool 25 years ago. He retired in 1981 after 40 years as a barber and beautician with the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown. He was a 32nd degree Mason member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg and Harrisburg Masonic Lodge. His wife, Leah, died in 1995. Survivors: A daughter, Marjory L.
