Bruno A. Zaccaria

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Bruno A. Zaccaria, 75, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004, surrounded by his beloved family.

Mr. Zaccaria was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Oneonta, the son of the belated Mary (Chellino) and Gregorio Zaccaria.

Bruno served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He worked for General Laboratory Assoc. (jet engine systems) and later joined IBM, where he worked for 33 years. He was an avid golfer and ardent fisherman.

Bruno is survived by his wife, Linda, and his beloved daughters, Tara Cran (David) of Boca Raton and Suzanne Zaccaria of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren, Ashley and Michael Cran; brothers, Gregory (Leah) of Spokane, Wash., and Joseph (Florence) of Rockville Centre; his sister, Roseann Rogers (Graydon) of Altamont; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two infant brothers.

Funeral services were held at the Babione Funeral Home in Boca Raton, and entombment followed in the Boca Raton Mausoleum.

The family requests donations in memory of Bruno A. Zaccaria be made to the American Lung Association.

Dorothy Moakler

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Dorothy M. Moakler, 83, of Cooperstown passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2004, following a brief stay at Francis House, a hospice facility in Syracuse.

Born April 1, 1921, in Springfield, Mass., Dorothy was a daughter of the late Paul E. and Anna (Cassin) Johnson.

She married John T. Moakler of Cooperstown on June 8, 1946, at Assumption Church in Ansonia, Conn. John died Dec. 11, 1988.

In her youth, Dorothy and her family moved to Ansonia, Conn., where she attended and graduated from Ansonia schools. She then attended Dr. Stuart’s School in New Haven, Conn., and earned an associate’s degree in physical therapy. After graduation, she accepted a position as a physical therapist at The Pines, a residential home for pediatric orthopedic patients in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and later held the same position at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clarksburg, W.Va.

In 1945, Dorothy moved to Cooperstown and began a long career as a physical therapist at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. During this time, Dorothy and John made their home and raised their family on the Edward Moakler & Son farm property on the Middlefield Center Road. In later years, she was employed at the hospital in the research department as well as in the admitting office, retiring in 1984. In the years following her retirement, she was employed for a period of time at Moon Dreams and the Cooperstown Art Association. Until recently, Dorothy had continued to spend summers in their home on Middlefield Center Road.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Wayne T. Moakler of Cooperstown; her daughter, Deborah A. Joy of Camillus; three grandsons, Matthew Moakler of Morehead City, N.C., and Brian and Kevin Joy of Camillus; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Moakler of Cooperstown and Marion Garrison of Boston, Mass.; two brothers-in-law, Edward Moakler and his wife, Lucille, of California and Ray Burr of Cooperstown; many nieces and nephews; two cousins, Marge Varrone and Helen Bennett of Bridgeport, Conn., and a good friend of the family, Baron Zimmerman.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor of St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church, Cooperstown, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Should friends and family so desire, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208, or to any charity close to your heart.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth, Funeral Directors, Cooperstown.

Duane F. Constable

BLOOMFIELD, Ind. — Duane F. Constable, 65, of Bloomfield, Ind., passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at his residence.

He was born March 18, 1939, in Treadwell, the son of Fredrick and Florence (Pinney) Constable.

Duane grew up in Treadwell, moved to Guilford and graduated from Guilford High School.

He was married to Patricia (Stratton) Constable.

Duane worked in Norwich for a year, then joined the Army in March 1957. He reported to Ft. Dix in November 1957 for active duty and joined the paratroopers in 1958 at Fort Bragg. He was assigned to the Tank Battalion and spent two years in Hawaii.

He then attended school in Ft. Monmouth, N.J. and after graduating returned to the paratroopers rather than take an office job in Washington, D.C. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., when he received his silver wings. He was discharged from service in May of 1965.

Duane was a truck driver for many years and a member of the Teamsters Union.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Constable of Bloomfield; three sons, Michael Constable of Ohio, Jack D. Constable of Newberry, Ind., and Fredrick Constable of Jacksonville, N.C.; one daughter, Shannon Redding of Bloomington; three sisters, Barbara Clapper of Nevada, Lois Rausch of Walton and Lora Brady of Torrington, Conn.; one brother, James Constable of Torrington, Conn.; his mother, Florence Constable of Sidney Center, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Burial was in Goodwin Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Funeral services were at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Eugenia Hrynda

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Eugenia Hrynda, 75, of state Highway No. 28 entered into eternal rest Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2004, in her home after a long illness.

She was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Bailystok, Poland, daughter of the late Ignacy and Stefania Sanczyk Korbut. Eugenia was raised and educated in Poland.

For 15 years she worked as a telegraph operator in Bailystok. She came to this country in 1964.

On Dec. 12, 1974, she married Steve Hrynda in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Herkimer. After a loving union of 24 years, Mr. Hrynda preceded her in death Jan. 21, 1999.

Mrs. Hrynda had worked for Duofold, Tri State Laundry and Utica Machine before retiring in 1974.

She had a strong belief in God and attended Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in East Herkimer.

A sister, Rosalia Sawicki in Poland, and many friends locally, survive her.

Graveside service for Mrs. Hrynda will take place on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery. The Very Rev. James Jadick will officiate.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Emil H. Dibble

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Emil H. "Bud" Dibble, 92, of River Street entered into eternal rest Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born May 22, 1912, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Floyd and Matilda Feldman Dibble.

Another one of the "Greatest Generation" has passed. Emil proudly served in the United States Army Air Force in three wars. His first enlistment was World War II. Shortly after that event, he was discharged and then went back in again for the Korean War and stayed through the Vietnam War. His last tour of duty was in the jungles of Vietnam, building platforms for tents.

During his military career he was stationed from Alaska to Florida. A proud moment for him was to serve as honor guard for President Lyndon B. Johnson’s inauguration.

Locally he was in many parades with his riding horses. He was a great lover of horses and dogs. He accepted retired K-9 dogs, horses and other dogs that military personnel could not ship out with.

In May, he was honored to receive the "Service to America" certificate from the American Legion for World War II veterans and his graduation diploma from the Richfield Springs Central School.

Bud had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. He was also a member of Hugick-Purcell-Shepard Post No. 616, Richfield Springs.

To those who knew Bud they will always remember his warm smile and gentle manner. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

Besides his parents, his sister, Teckla Cooper, preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1999.

Funeral service from the Book of Common Prayer and Holy Eucharist will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. The Rev. John Dixon Bartle, rector, will officiate.

Following the funeral service, Mr. Dibble will be laid to rest with military honors in Lakeview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. Members of Hugick-Purcell-Shepard American Legion Post No. 616 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. for services.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Timothy Reynolds

TROUT CREEK — Timothy J. Reynolds, 47, a lifetime Trout Creek resident, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Deposit, where he had been living for the past year.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert J. and Zana (Beardslee) Reynolds.

He is survived by eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, Gene Reynolds of Trout Creek, Margie and Raymond Cornwell Sr. of Deposit, Joseph and Phyllis Reynolds of Trout Creek, Glenn Reynolds of Sidney Center, Dawn and Taylor Colvard of Pembroke, Texas, Edwin and Susan Reynolds of Trout Creek, Richard Reynolds of East Branch, and Susan Geer and Ron Gransbury of Hancock; and many nieces and nephews.

In 1978, he began working as a partner in the Reynolds Auto Supply Store in Unadilla and later worked as a counter person for NAPA, FORD and Delaware County Highway Department.

Funeral services will be held Friday evening, Sept. 3, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the Zacharias Funeral Home, 78 Second St., Deposit, with the Rev. Nickolas Servetas, rector of Christ Church in Deposit, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., time of service.

Interment will be in the family plot at Trout Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trout Creek Baptist Church.

Noreen E. Wells

UNADILLA — Noreen E. Wells, 61, of Unadilla passed on to the Lord, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, surrounded by her loving family.

She was retired from Amphenol where she had worked for 22 years. She loved crafts, crocheting and chocolates.

Noreen is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Wells; son, Doug Wells and Kate Andrews of Unadilla; stepchildren, Linda and Mike Gargon of St. Augustine, Fla., John Wells of Wappingers Falls and Sue Crissel of Sidney; four stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters, Connie and Stephen Gates of Gilbertsville and Betty White and family of Meridale, and many neighbors and friends, as well as her beloved dog, Tammi.

She was predeceased by her father, Ichabod Cooke, and brother, David Cooke, both of Unadilla.

Memorial services will be private.

Mildred H. Kirches

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Mildred H. Kirches, 100, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at her residence under Hospice care.

Born Jan. 1, 1904, in Peru, she was the daughter of Floyd and Blance (Pickard) Harrington.

Mildred attended grade school in Canastota and graduated from Roxbury High School in 1927.

She continued her education and graduated from Cornell University Hospital School of Nursing in 1931.

Employed by New York Hospital, Mildred worked her way up to head nurse and was placed in charge of the hospital’s new urological unit.

She married Forrest Couch in New York City in 1939. He soon became an Army officer and she left her nursing position to travel with her husband to various military bases during which time Mildred taught health education classes for the American Red Cross.

They were assigned to Pittsburgh, Pa., Gatson, Ala., Baltimore, Md., and St. Louis, Mo.

After the war, they left the military and settled first in Fayetteville. Her husband’s work then moved them to Buffalo and on to Hampton, N.H. While in Hampton, Mildred owned and operated a gift shop.

She was widowed in 1970 after 32 years of marriage. In 1971, she moved to Pinellas Park, Fla., where she married Harry Kirches in 1981. After 13 years of marriage, he died in 1994.

Mildred was an avid golfer and bridge player and was still living in her Pinellas Park home with some assistance.

She was a member of the Cornell University-NYH School of Nursing Alumni Association and was of the Episcopal faith.

Mildred is survived by two nieces, Jeanette Cesarini and Yolanda Hines, both of Canastota.

She was predeceased by her brother, Roger Harrington, and sisters Gladys Teite and Eunice Lutz.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard A. Dykstra officiating.

Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Elsie E. Borden

HOBBS, N.M. — Funeral services for Elsie Elizabeth Borden, 87, of Hobbs, N.M., will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Eli Borden, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Elsie went to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the age of 87 years and 304 days at Hobbs Health Care in Hobbs, N.M.

She was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Portales, N.M. She married E.M. (Buzz) Borden Jr. on April 27, 1933.

Elsie was a born-again Christian and member of the Church of Christ for more than 70 years.

Survivors include a son, Eli Borden and wife, Wilsie, of Hobbs, N.M.; a daughter, Fran Borden of Firestone, Colo.; a son-in-law, James Cox of Smyer, Texas; two sisters, Elva Travis of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lillian Higgs of Clovis, N.M.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, Albert Howey and Oma Richards; her husband in 1984; her daughter, Lou Cox, in 1997; five brothers, Claude Howey in 1916, Clifford Howey in 1919, Albert Howey in 1945, Charles Richards in 2000, and Elbert Howey in 2001.

The family suggests memorials to Hobbs Health Care Wing 100, 5715 Lovington Highway, Hobbs, NM 88240 or to the College of the Southwest Debate Team, 6610 Lovington Highway, Hobbs, NM 88240.

William Ackerson

HANCOCK — A graveside service for William D. Ackerson, who died June 26, 2004, in Lancaster, Pa., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.

Genevieve Spytko

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — A graveside committal service for Genevieve "Jennie" V. Spytko, beloved wife of Steve Spytko who passed away March 6, 2004, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. Sister Patricia Woolheater will officiate.

Arrangements are being handled by J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Charles Martin

COOPERSTOWN — The mortal remains of Charles Martin, 83, of Cooperstown, who died Feb. 15, 2004, were laid to rest in the sea on the afternoon of Aug. 25, 2004.

The ceremony took place at the equator on a clear afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Maritime Vessel Buffalo Soldier, a Merchant Marine ship captained by Jason Stancil currently bound for Africa with corn and cooking oil for hunger relief on that continent.

Attended by Mr. Martin’s son-in-law, Seaman Daniel Anderson, and the entire crew of MV Buffalo Soldier, the ceremony included a brief biography of past chief Marine Engineer Martin’s life and, as his remains were placed in the sea by Chief Marine Engineer Pat Salvatore, the 23rd Psalm was read by Bosun Orlando Bossette.

Lester C. Morrison

FLY CREEK — Mr. Lester C. Morrison, 78, of Fly Creek, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home.

Les was born on Aug. 30, 1926, in Cooperstown, a son of Glenn D. and Geneva (McRorie) Morrison.

Raised in Cooperstown, he graduated with the Class of 1945 from Cooperstown High School. On June 15, 1945, he entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II in the 716th Military Police Battalion.

Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Cooperstown. For many years he owned and operated Les’s Taxi providing local and out-of-town driving services. He was also employed during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s as an assistant at the Ingalls, Connell & Dow Funeral Home in Cooperstown, as well as for the Tillapaugh family at their funeral homes.

A regular at the Cooperstown Diner, he was also known to frequent the lunch counter at the former Newberry’s on Main Street in Cooperstown and, from 1963 until 1968 was a member of the Lions Club of Cooperstown.

Les is survived by his ex-wife, Connie, of Fly Creek; two daughters, Pam Morrison of Keene, N.H., and Celeste ("Kip") Berrick and her husband, Robert, of Ticonderoga; four grandchildren, Janis and Daniel Zirlen and Samuel and Rebecca Berrick; one sister, Mrs. Irene Morrison Harbison of Cherry Valley; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sandra Morrison of West Exeter and Mrs. Virginia Morrison of Cherry Valley and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter G. Morrison, who died July 18, 1981, and Donald W. Morrison who died Aug. 20, 2000, and one brother-in-law, Theodore Harbison, who died June 5, 2002.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Middlefield Center Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Cooperstown Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1122, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Deborah Liddle

SIDNEY — Deborah Murphy Liddle, 42, of Sidney passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1962, daughter of James Murphy and Catherine "Kitty" Miller in Newark, N.J.

Deb graduated from Afton Central School.

She married James Liddle on Feb. 14, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Deb had worked at The Hospital in Sidney for many years, and also Germond Chiropractic in Bainbridge and David A. Picinich Chiropractor of Oneonta as an office administrator.

She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sidney. Deb enjoyed staying home reading, playing with her cat and taking care of her plants. She was a photography buff and liked to take pictures of sunsets. Deb was also a fan of NASCAR and the Washington Redskins.

She is survived by her husband, James Liddle, Sidney; daughter, Amanda Benedict, Sidney; mother, Kitty Murphy, Sidney; stepdaughter, Sydney Ritchie-Liddle, Valley Falls; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Irene Murphy, Unadilla; sister, Diane Wenneis, Hopatcong, N.J.; sister-in-law, Pansy Gray, Sunbury, Pa.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, James Murphy, and brother, Daniel Gray.

A celebration of Deb’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Michael Shank, vicar of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sidney, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Deborah’s name to the National Psoriasis Foundation, 660 SW 92nd Ave., Suite 300, Portland, OR 97223 or The Breast Cancer Fund, 2107 O’Farrell St., San Francisco, CA 94115.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
