Survivors: His wife, the former Lauretta Lacey; a daughter, Shirley Blum of Oswego; a son, Jack of Oswego; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Faith United Church. Burial, Riverside Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.

Howard Francis Schadt, 71, of Swansboro, N.C., died Tuesday. Born in Syracuse, he lived there until moving away in 1989. He retired as sales director from Dorn's Trucking in Syracuse. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served with the Amphibious Unit. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9960. His first wife, the former Patricia A. Engler, died previously. Survivors: His wife, Shirley Aeschbacher; three daughters, Mary P. Phelps, Elizabeth Archino and Nanette Walrath, all of Greenville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Lynda Aeschbacher of Syracuse; two stepsons, Ronald Hegmann of Charlotte, N.C., and Richard Hegmann of Hubert, N.C.; three sisters, Phyllis Mulherin of Syracuse, Jean Beckwith of Ohio and Linda Delvy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Richard of Swansboro and Harold of Syracuse; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Carmella Duca Scheel, 72, of 202 Herbert St., Syracuse, died Thursday. She was a life resident of Syracuse. She retired in 1995 from Syracuse China Co. after 20 years. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. Her husband, Clayton, died in 1976. Survivors: Three daughters, Margaret, Maria and Dolores Scheel, all of Syracuse; two sons, Clayton of Mexico and Nick of Syracuse; three sisters, Isabella Guidetti and Dolores Swedowski, both of Syracuse, and Rose Reda of  Pennsylvania; a brother, Nicholas Duca of Oswego; six grandsons; three great-grandchildren. Services: 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial, Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Helen Cutbush Vanoss, 83, of Liverpool died Monday. Born in Ballston Spa, she attended Ballston Spa High School and Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in Schenectady. She retired as a registered nurse. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered with the United States Coast Guard Power Squadron. Her husband, Ralph H., died in 1997. Survivors: Two daughters, Barbara A. Miller of Conway, S.C., and Beverly V. Yevich of Baldwinsville; a son, William R. of Clarkston, Mich.; a sister, Catherine Fountain of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Lawrence P. Callahan Sr., 73, of Kennewick, Wash., died Tuesday. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in North Syracuse many years until moving away in 1991. He retired this year as a technical writer for Westinghouse and Fluor Handford in Handford, Wash. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a volunteer for St. Patrick's School, both in Kennewick. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and a member of  Washington State Council 3022. He was a former member of Bishop Curley Council 3717 in North Syracuse. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Survivors: His wife of 47 years, the former Arlene Weber; two daughters, Janet Callahan of  White Bear Lake, Minn., and Elizabeth DeMarr of North Syracuse; three sons, Patrick of St. Croix, George of Cicero and Lawrence Jr. of Seattle; a sister, Mary Garde of Brooklyn; two brothers, Charles of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeremiah of San Francisco; seven grandchildren. Services: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fergerson Funeral Home and 1 p.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial, North Syracuse Cemetery. He retired in 1989 from the mail department of Syracuse University and had been postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Chittenango. He was a Hospice volunteer for 10 years and a volunteer for AARP in tax preparation for 10 years. He was a volunteer for Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department and a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 30 years, Cecilia; four daughters, Margaret Ovaginian of Manchester, N.H., Maureen Gough of Chittenango, Mary Fishback of Gaithersburg, Md., and Marilyn O'Donnell of Houston; a son, Gary J. of Chittenango; eight grandchildren. James Thomas "Jim" Emert, 52, of Naples, Fla., died March 23 of leukemia. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Cato-Meridian High School. He worked for Carpenters Local 12, now known as Local 747, in Syracuse for many years before moving to Naples in 1978. He was a project manager at AA Stucco. He was a member of Goldwing Road Riders Association and Southwest Bowlers Association. Survivors: His wife, Joyce; a daughter, Pamela Garrett of Naples; a son, Craig of Naples; three stepsons, Jon Bresee of Gratiot County, Mich., Mark Bresee of Naples and Matt Bresee of Virginia Beach, Va.; his mother, Thelma of Hannibal; two brothers, Bobby of Massachusetts and Buddy of Volney; three sisters, Joanne Lucas of Orlando, Fla., Susan May and Becky Fox, both of Hannibal; seven grandchildren. Charles G. Gleaves, 77, of Lower Macungie Township, Pa., died Wednesday. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., he lived in Fayetteville more than 10 years until moving away in 2001. He graduated from Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. He retired in 1991 as a professional trumpeter for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra after 34 years. He had been a trumpeter for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and was a member of International Trumpeters Guild. He was a former music professor at University of Buffalo and State University of New York at Fredonia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ruth G., died in 1996. Survivors: A daughter, Melanie Gleaves-Hirsch of Lower Macungie Township; two grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Cathedral. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango. She retired in 1993 as appointment secretary at Olan Mills after 15 years. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and bowled at Flamingo Lanes for 25 years in the Sunday Mixed League. Survivors: Her husband of 43 years, Al; three daughters, Barbara Rhea of Baldwinsville, Michele Terino of Clay and Robyn Carinci of Oneida; two sons, Scott of Oneida and Mark of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, LaVerne Grico of Wyoming, Pa.; a brother, Joseph Fedorsha of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren. Services: 9:30 a.m. Monday at Fergerson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial, Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
