Jean R. Ciliberti

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Jean Ralph Ciliberti, 86, of Glen Rock, N.J., died Sept. 7, 2004.

She was the beloved mother of Richard V. of Cherry Hill, N.J., John R. of Sammamish, Wash., David F. (deceased) and Anne C. of Glen Rock; mother-in-law of Karen, Molly, Paula and Lawrence Singer; loving grandmother of nine; and one great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, in 1998.

Jean was a longtime resident of Schenevus, where she lived with her husband and children.

She taught high school mathematics and other subjects at Schenevus Central School for more than 20 years before retiring to Boynton Beach, Fla.

In 1999, she relocated to Glen Rock, where she was an active member of several clubs and organizations.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Glen Rock.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ciliberti Family Scholarship Fund, 159 Main St., Schenevus, NY 12155: Attn.: Rose Shulgate.

Alice M. Morrell

RICHMONDVILLE — Alice M. Morrell, 66, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004.

She was born Oct. 20, 1937, in Jefferson, the daughter of David B. and Laura B. (Effner) Merwin.

Alice married Alonzo D. Morrell on April 29, 1959. He predeceased her on Dec. 16, 1980.

Alice worked on the family farm with her parents.

She is survived by her children, Ada and Richard Murphy of Richmondville, Joan and Kenneth Effner of Richmondville, Mary and Harry Rode of Richmondville, Charles Morrell of Richmondville, Patricia Knapp and Dan Smart of Cobleskill; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Annie Hollenbeck of Sloansville; her brother, David Merwin Jr. of Charlotteville; special friends, Charles Morrell Jr. of Richmondville and Brian Ware of Richmondville; two close nieces and a nephew, Tina Stannard and Jennifer Jones and David Merwin III; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her two daughters, Susie and Marge; four sisters; and a brother.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Alan Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmondville Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adam Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Kristopher Mansfield

DENVER, Colo. — Senior Airman Kristopher George Mansfield, United States Air Force, 23, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in Denver.

He was born Feb. 10, 1981, in Denver. He was a 1999 graduate of Martin High School, Arlington, Texas.

Kristopher loved to snow ski, ride his motorcycle and play inline and ice hockey. Small children loved him.

He served in Iraq from January to May 2004.

Kristopher is the beloved son of Craig (Marilyne) Mansfield and Julie (Don) Legg; brother of Jeff (Gretchen) Legg and Lynn (John) Holsan; grandson of Ann Briguglio; uncle of Brandon and Nicholas Holsan. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Mary Mansfield and Jim Briguglio.

A celebration of Kristopher’s life will be at noon Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3201 South Parker Road, Aurora, CO 80014; (303) 745-4418. Services to conclude at the chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Air Force Aid Society, Inc., Suite 202, 241 18th St., Arlington, VA 22202.

Robert P. Teytand

CARLISLE — Robert P. Teytand Sr., 85, of state Route 20, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.

Mr. Teytand was born April 3, 1919, in Newark, N.J., the son of August P. and Louise (Vedder) Teytand.

Mr. Teytand retired in 1985 from the Schoharie County Highway Department where he was employed as a special laborer. He had also worked at the Bill Churchhill Farm in Jefferson for several years.

Mr. Teytand was a Boy Scout leader for Pack 5 of Cobleskill and Troop 67 of Carlisle.

He was a lifetime member of the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Schoharie County Fire Association and County Fire Police. Mr. Teytand also belonged to the Carlisle Senior Citizens and the Schoharie County Senior Council. He was a member of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Glenda (Mackey) Teytand, who died June 2, 1990.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Joe DeKeada of Bakersfield, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert P. Teytand Jr. and Linda; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Carlisle Presbyterian Church, State Route 20, with the Rev. Bert Mayne and the Rev. Carol Coltrain co-officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in Carlisle Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department, State Route 20, Carlisle, NY 12031.

Nancy Harris

MONTREAL — Nancy (nee) Sharko Harris of Montreal, Quebec, passed away at her home Monday, Sept. 6, 2004.

Her greatest enjoyments in life were her family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Harris, and her parents, Paulina and Joseph Sharko.

She is survived by her sister, Olga; brother, Alex Sharko; and her three sons, Bill (Linda) and their children, Evan, Kelsey, Lauren and Meghan; Wayne; and Ward (Robyn) and their children, Connor and Tylor.

She will be resting at Blythe Bernier Funeral Home, 940 Ogilvy Ave. (corner Stuart). Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004. Funeral service at 10 a.m. at St. Peter & St. Paul Cathedral, 1151 Champlain St., Friday, Sept. 10, 2004. Thence to Hawthorn Dale Cemetery.

Jean F. Andreassen

DAVENPORT — Jean F. Andreassen, 67, of Davenport died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born May 16, 1937, in Callicoon, the daughter of Burton and Lillian (Bischoff) Bogert.

She married John M. Andreassen Sept. 30, 1956, in Jeffersonville. He predeceased her July 2, 2004.

Mrs. Andreassen enjoyed membership in the United Methodist Church and Women’s Organization where she served as treasurer, Senior Citizens Club and the Davenport Historical Society.

She loved living in the country in the home her husband built, where she actively sewed and quilted, made jellies and jams and especially enjoyed tole painting.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Evan and Linda Andreassen, Oneonta; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Randy Mowers, Oneonta; five grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Kristen, Jeffrey and Kayla; and her mother, Lillian Bogert, Youngsville. Also, two brothers, Warren Bogert, Youngsville, and Leslie (Dian) Bogert, Jeffersonville; two sisters, Betty Everett, Neversink, and Rose (Donald) Clark, Bethel; a sister-in-law, Lila Morelli, Scotia; an aunt, Dagmar Colena, Scotia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Davenport United Methodist Church, Davenport, with the Rev. Nola Anderson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Davenport United Methodist Church, Davenport.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Kathleen Andrews

COOPERSTOWN — Kathleen I. Andrews of Cooperstown passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at home from an extended illness with her family at her side.

She was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Conesville, the daughter of Raymond Collins and Pearl Hand.

She is survived by Wilbert Andrews, her husband of 47 years; and her five daughters, Donna and Adam Bloomingdale of Hartwick, Kim and Chuck Worden of Cherry Valley, Patricia Andrews of Johnston, Mary and Mathew Johnson of Milford and Susan Andrews and Anthony Effner of Westford. Katie also is survived by 12 grandchildren, four brothers, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Katie’s husband, Wilbert, and family would like to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Barbara Healy and the entire staff at the Bassett Healthcare Cancer Treatment Center. Special thanks to Amy Browning, our Hospice nurse, for her compassion, heart of gold, and ability to bring a little sunshine through the door each day she was here. And finally, from the family to our granddaughter — niece, Amanda, thank you for your endless work looking after and helping care for both your grandma and grandpa.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Catskill Area Hospice Indigent Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Helena Lazarewicz

WORCESTER — Helena Lazarewicz, 90, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born May 21, 1914, in Rygole, Poland, the daughter of Albin and Wincenta (Chalecka) Lewandowski.

She married Lucian Lazarewicz on March 19, 1949, in Caracas, Venezuela. He predeceased her July 1, 1987.

Helena was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Worcester.

She is survived by her two sons, Andrew Lazarewicz of Melbourne, Fla., and Matt and his wife, Anna Lazarewicz, of Boxford, Mass.; four grandchildren, Adam, Krysia, Mia and Aleksa.

In loving memory of a woman who gave everything to her family, the last of her family generation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

In support of the Equestrian Special Olympics, contributions may be made to the Windrush Farms for Therapeutic Equitation Inc., 30 Brookview Road, Boxford, MA 01921.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Henry W. Holmes

ANDES — Henry Wilson Holmes, 65, of Andes died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.

He was born March 18, 1939, in Walton, the son of Clifford R. and Cathleen (Wilson) Holmes.

He married Faye Rider in May of 1966 in DeLancey.

A lifetime area resident, he attended Delaware Academy, Delhi, served in the National Guard Company F in Walton and belonged to American Legion Post No. 190 of Delhi. He also belonged to Delaware County Fire Police Association; Andes Fire Department; Hamden Hill Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club; Tremperskill Hunting and Fishing Club; Central Catskill Trail Association; and New York State Snowmobile Association.

Henry loved his classic cars, a 1961 Cadillac and a 1969 Mercury.

He was active in the community, and there isn’t a person in Andes who hasn’t benefited from Henry’s help at some time. He will be greatly missed as a friend to everyone.

He loved his granddaughter and was able to see her crawl.

His mother, Cathleen Holmes of DeLancey; a daughter, Nancy Holmes and Jason Young, Gilboa; his girlfriend, Rose VanSteenburg, Andes; and granddaughter, Shawna Young, survive. Also, a sister, Donna Giannoccaro, Middletown; brothers, Stanley (Susan) Holmes, Oneonta, and Clifford (Joann) Holmes Jr., Andes; and many nieces and nephews survive.

He was predeceased by his father, Clifford Holmes Sr.; his wife, Faye; and a brother, John Holmes.

Calling hours will take place Sunday evening, Sept. 12, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Graveside services will take place Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Back Street Cemetery, Andes, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Andes Fire Department, Andes.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Franklin L. Curcio

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Franklin L. "Frank" Curcio, 86, of Elm Street entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, 2004, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.

He was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Rocco and Giovanna DeLeo Curcio.

A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.

On May 20, 1944, he married the former Irene Angier in Saint Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs.

Frank was an entrepreneur in the truest sense of the word. In his early days he had owned and operated the Sunoco Gas Station on West Main Street, where the Fleet Bank now stands.

He, along with his brothers, Jack and Victor, had built two familiar buildings and businesses in Richfield Springs. They constructed and operated the Chef Diner and the Village Motel and Snack Bar. For the past 28 years, he was a licensed real estate broker, operating Frank Curcio Reality in Richfield Springs.

He had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. He was member of Saint Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs. Frank had a strong sense of community. He loved Richfield Springs and its people.

As a young man, Frank enjoyed music. He played the piano and organ. He traveled with a number of local bands at clubs and at outings. In his later years, he played the piano for the Richfield Springs Senior Citizens. His relaxation time was spent operating his ham radio from his home.

He will always be remembered as a humble, honest and caring man. He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 60 years, Irene; a daughter, Sheila, and her husband, Ralph Osterhoudt, of Richfield Springs; a grandson, Cory Osterhoudt of Clifton Park; his business partner and longtime friend, Linda O’Connor of Richfield Springs; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, a daughter, Susan Curcio in 1969; his two brothers, Jack and Victor; and seven sisters, Rose, Grace, Lena, Netti, Mikena, Lucy and Angeline, preceded him in death.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terence Healy as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Elizabeth Eldridge

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Elizabeth (Betty) Munson Eldridge, 79, passed away quietly in her sleep Feb. 25, 2004, at her home in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Following cremation at Fairbanks Funeral Home in Fairbanks, a memorial service with a Mass of Resurrection was held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 2501 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska.

Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oneonta, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at 1 p.m.

Elizabeth was born in Oneonta on May 12, 1924, to Margaret and John Delaney. Following her mother’s death in 1929, Elizabeth was adopted by her maternal grandparents, Mary Elizabeth and Frank Munson.

In May of 1946, she married her beloved husband of 52 years, Arthur Eldridge, in Oneonta.

Following Art’s retirement from Bendix Corporation, Sidney, in 1978, they moved to Alaska to join their daughter and her family.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son, Timothy, in 1974; her husband, Arthur, in 1998; and her brother, Jack Delaney, in 1999.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) and Chuck Elwood of Gakona, Alaska; her granddaughter and husband, Terri and Michael Dukes; and four great-grandchildren, Riley, Maggie, Emily and Timothy Dukes, all of North Pole, Alaska; as well as her former daughter-in-law, Laura Hansel of Maryland.

Betty’s family would love to hear from anyone who has any memories to share and may do so by writing to Peggy Elwood at PO Box 213 Gakona, AK 99586.

Edna A. Gadsby

ONEONTA — Edna Augusta Gadsby, 96, of Oneonta, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at the Ross Adult Home in Maryland.

She was born Feb. 12, 1908, at home on 19 River St., Oneonta, the only child of George and Laura (Evans) Gadsby. At the age of 5 years, she moved with her parents into the family home at 24 Spruce St., Oneonta, where she resided for nearly the next 90 years.

Miss Gadsby graduated from Oneonta High School in 1926, and from the Oneonta State Normal School in 1929. Her master’s degree from the State University College at Oneonta was awarded in 1954. Her teaching career spanned a period of more than 40 years, first at Bloomville and later at South Kortright Central School, until her retirement in 1970. Pursuant to retirement, Edna traveled extensively, both in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and in Europe. She maintained contact with many of her former students and other friends, all of whom will remember her fondly for her great love of animals, particularly cats. Her home on Spruce Street was never without feline guests. She was a lifelong member of the Main Street Baptist Church; in fact, the oldest member of that church.

Several distant cousins survive, including Alicia I. Pagano of Unadilla; her sister, Rita L. Mott of Masonville and their brother, Stanley N. Leonard of Morris.

There will be no public calling hours.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the family plot.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the name of Edna A. Gadsby to the Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery, 144 Bert Washburn Rd., Otego, NY 13825.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
