Jennie C. Bacchi

MERIDALE — Jennie C. Bacchi, 16-day-old daughter of Carl Bacchi and Jeanmarie Dittmar, passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at O’Connor Hospital, Delhi.

She was born Sept. 11, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Jeffrey Staples officiating.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Mark Battin

UNADILLA — Mark Battin of Unadilla, formerly of the Creek-Fred Smith Road, Mount Upton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Covelo, Calif.

He was born Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1928, in Wheelerville, Pa., the son of the late Reginald and Myra Schall Battin.

On Aug. 31, 1950, he married Wanda Shelley. She predeceased him on March 11, 2001.

For several years, Mark was employed by the Agway Corporation, retiring after 22 years.

Over the years, he was an active member of the Lion’s Club, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Kiwanis, the National Rifle Association and the Rockdale Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Above all, he was a survivor who finally succumbed to the cancer he was first diagnosed with more than 28 years ago.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold and Ann Battin of Pinole, Calif., and Alan and Melanie Battin of Unadilla; daughter, Sheri Sutton of Unadilla; six grandchildren, Brittany, Nicholas, Eliza, Michael, Nicole and Josh; two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Griffin; sister-in-law, Charlotte Battin; and son-in-law, Norman Sutton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Dale Battin predeceased him on Aug. 31, 1994.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Robert Conway of Unadilla officiating. Burial will be in the East Guilford Cemetery, East Guilford.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Mount Upton Emergency or Fire Department, Mount Upton, or to the American Cancer Society.

Carroll P. Tyler

WALTON — Carroll P. Tyler of Walton passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in Walton.

He was born May 24, 1929, in Stamford, the son of the late Paul and Leila Goodrich Tyler.

On April 12, 1958, he married Barbara Loudon in Walton.

Mr. Tyler was a graduate of Stamford Central School and attended the State University of New York at Morrisville.

He was a specialist in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning with the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. During his work for GLF and Agway he traveled throughout Delaware County and became acquainted with many farm families. He was well-respected for his work in developing the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Program at the State University of New York at Delhi. He retired after 24 years as an associate professor. During his retirement, he mapped cemeteries for Cemetery Concepts.

Mr. Tyler was very active in his community. At the time of his death he was a fire commissioner for the Walton Fire District and vice president of the Walton Cemetery Association Inc.

He was a former mayor and trustee of the village of Walton. He also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

He was a member and former deacon and elder of the Walton United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Town of Walton Democratic Committee, Walton Fire Department and the Walton Mountain Sportsman’s Club Inc. He was also a former director and vice president of the Chen-Del-O Federal Credit Union.

During the Korean War, Mr. Tyler served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army for 18 months.

Mr. Tyler was a devoted family man and beloved grandfather to his five granddaughters.

He enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, genealogy and working in his wood shop.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, at home; a daughter, Mary and James Tyler-Wall of Temple, N.H.; a son, Joseph and Barbara Tyler of Saratoga Springs; five granddaughters, Kathryn Galley, Melissa and Leah Tyler, Bronwyn and Emeline Tyler-Wall; a sister-in-law, Doris Spearbeck of Oneonta; and an aunt, Berneice Tyler of Hiawassee, Ga. He is also survived by two nieces and their families, Paul and Barbara Iaconis of Chittenango, and Michael and Rebecca Stanton of Walworth; a nephew, Richard L. Spearbeck Jr. of Orleans, Mass.; and several cousins.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the Walton United Presbyterian Church, North and East Streets, Walton, with the Rev. Dr. James Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Walton Cemetery Association, Inc. or the Walton Fire Department.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Home, Walton.

Maxine M. Potts

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Mrs. Maxine M. Potts, 92, of Monroe Township, N.J., and formerly of Fly Creek, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, 2004, at Monroe Village Healthcare Center in Monroe Township.

She was born on May 1, 1912, in Dolgeville, a daughter of Truman B. and Georgianna (Jones) Marsh.

She married Howard W. ("Stub") Potts on Aug. 22, 1936, in Dolgeville. Mr. Potts died Nov. 17, 1986.

Raised in Dolgeville, Maxine graduated from Dolgeville High School before attending Utica School of Commerce. Upon graduation from there, she moved to Cooperstown and became employed by the Clark Estates in their Cooperstown offices.

When her husband became grand lecturer of the Grand Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York in 1953, she served as his secretary for the next 24 years as he traveled to various Masonic Lodges and Districts throughout New York state.

A longtime resident of Fly Creek, Maxine was a charter member of the Fly Creek Area Historical Society, serving at one time as treasurer, and was a former member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

In September of 2001, she moved from her home in Fly Creek to Monroe Township and resided in the Monroe Village Apartments near her sister and niece.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Kathryn M. Feury of Monroe Township, N.J.; her nephew, Theodore P. Feury Jr., and his wife, Dianne, of Cooperstown; her niece, Ellen Levine, and her husband, Harry, of Princeton, N.J.; and her great-nieces and -nephews, Theodore P. Feury III, Margit K. Ragland, Daniel Levine and Carolyn Levine.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, John C. and Margaret W. Marsh, and her brother-in-law, Theodore P. Feury.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown, with Dr. Jim Atwell officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Fly Creek Area Historical Society, PO Box 87, Fly Creek, NY 13337.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Mary Scutt

OTEGO — Mary (Jill Brooks) Scutt, 66, of Otego passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Deposit, the daughter of Leon L. and Bernice M. (Cranston) Flack.

She married Roger H. Brooks in Cannonsville in 1957. Roger passed away in 1993. She subsequently married Norman S. Scutt, who passed away in 1999.

Mary was a graduate of Deposit Central School. She had been employed by the Oneonta Nursing Home, retiring in 2000, after 20 caring years, then becoming a hospice volunteer.

Active in church life and activities all her life, she was a former member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Unadilla, and was serving as an elder and deaconess at the Plymouth Community Church, Walton, at the time of her passing.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen Brooks and Kirk Pratt; their children Carson, 2, Caleb, 1, and Kelsey, newborn, of Kennesaw, Ga.; her brothers and their wives, Curtis and Noreen Flack of Otego and Vern and Chris Flack of Unadilla. Also, survived by seven beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her son, Neil C. Brooks, and her granddaughter, Logan Pratt.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 2, 2004, at the Plymouth Community Church, Walton, with Pastor William Robertson officiating.

The family will be holding a private interment in the Brooks family plot in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plymouth Community Church, 6033 County Highway 21, Walton, NY 13856 or the American Cancer Society in Mary’s name.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Fredrick H. Zimmermann

DELHI — Fredrick H. Zimmermann, 93, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

He was born April 28, 1911, in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., the son of Karl and Paula (Kohler) Zimmermann.

He married Alyce Bolles on Aug. 10, 1935, at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. They celebrated their 69th anniversary.

Mr. Zimmermann moved from Long Island to DeLancey at the age of 10 and attended Delaware Academy.

The family lived for many years on Peakes Brook in Delhi where they operated a dairy farm.

He was a well-known building contractor, working for many years with his father and brother in the business.

Mr. Zimmermann was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast.

His wife, Alyce; children, Karl (Pauline) Zimmermann and Nancy (Robert) Mable; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren survive.

A brother, Karl Zimmermann, and two sisters, Ruth McFarland and Martha Dropp, predeceased him.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Miriam Hathaway officiating.

Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Eileen L. Hastings

Mrs. Eileen L. Hastings, 58, of County Route 148, Johnstown, died Saturday morning in the town of Galway from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born on May 20, 1944 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Robert and Regina Hazzard Johnson. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.

Employed as a home health aid throughout the area for over the past 10 years, she was currently working for H.H.C.P. in Amsterdam.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol L. Myers on April 5, 1996 exactly seven years to the date of her own death.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald L. Hastings, whom she married on April 9, 1961; her parents, Robert and Regina Peeler; two sons, Richard Hastings and his wife Betsy of Gloversville and Eric Hastings of Johnstown; two daughters, Sharon Freeman and her companion Joseph Gravelle of Johnstown and Susan Hastings of Johnstown; five brothers, Robert Johnson of Schenectady, Robert Peeler of Fonda, Ronald Peeler of Alabama, Donald Peeler of Gloversville, and William Peeler of Fonda; four sisters, Barbara Telfer of Fonda, Anna Bedell of Tribes Hill, Kathy Andrews of Pennellville and Dawn Hofmann of Scotia; eight grandchildren, Sabrina, Craig, and Kevin Myers, Heather and Matthew Freeman and Kenneth, Katherine and Kimberly Hastings; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Shakeera Myers; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Neo Natal Unit, Albany Medical Center, P.O. Box 8928, Albany, NY 12208 or the Ronald McDonald House, 139 S. Lake Ave., Albany, NY 12208.

Robert J. Arminio Sr.

Robert J. Arminio Sr., 78, of Northern Terrace, Fort Plain, NY, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.

He was born in Fultonville, New York on April 13, 1925, the son of Michael Arminio and Lottie Contine Arminio. Mr. Arminio attended Fultonville School.

Mr. Arminio was most recently employed by the New York State Department of Transportation at the Canal Section in Fonda, NY, retiring on October 1, 1980. Previously he was employed as a construction worker.
He was a resident of the Fort Plain area for four years and previously resided in the Ephratah area.

He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Navy, enlisted in April 1942 and separated in April 1946 with an honorable discharge. He served on the Destroyer The USS Nicholas while engaging in the Pacific Theatre and he was the recipient of 13 Battle Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Fonda, NY and was a former alter boy. He was an exempt member of the Fultonville Volunteer Fire Department, Etna Engine Co. No. 1, serving actively for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW of Coos Bay, Oregon and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was married March 13, 1948 in Wells, NY to Betty J. Leone (the couple recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary, who survives.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Langlois, Susan Harrington and Rose Marie Galarza.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Arminio of Fort Plain, NY; two daughters, Penny Leonhardt of Roswell, GA and Wendy Vanderbelden of North Bend, OR; two sons, Robert J. Arminio Jr. of Ephratah, NY and currently stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Army and Jeffrey Arminio of Perth, NY; one brother, Antonio Arminio of Fultonville, NY; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, NY. Public burial will be at the St. Cecilia Cemetery in Fonda, NY with full military honors at graveside and will be announced. Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Arminio's memory to Zachary-Elizabeth Fisher House, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.

Theresa Skoda

Mrs. Theresa Skoda, 89, of Tewksbury, Mass. and formerly of Johnstown, N.Y., passed away Monday, April 5, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, Mass. Mrs. Skoda was born July 8, 1914 in Flushing, N.Y., the daughter of Benjamin and Ernestine Navaro Pelosi. She was united in marriage to Frank M. Skoda on July 22, 1935 and he passed away in May of 1981. She attended schools in New Castle, Penn., and moved to Johnstown after her marriage, where she was employed, for many years, by various glove and clothing manufacturers in the area including Denkerts Sporting Goods, Bormans, Gates-Mills, Tryon Sportswear, and the Crescendoe and Grandoe Glove companies. Mrs. Skoda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown Pocahontas and various bowling leagues.

Mrs. Skoda is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Barnes of Tewksbury, Mass.; one brother, Frank Pelosi of Galveston, Texas; and one sister, Mary Parco of New Castle, Penn. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. Mrs. Skoda was predeceased by her son, Frank P. Skoda, who passed away on April 4, 1995.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Ehle Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown Public Library, 38 S. Market St., Johnstown, NY.

Edgar C. Leonhardt

Edgar C. Leonhardt, 78, of Streeter Road, died Friday morning at St. Mary's Hospital.

Born June 15, 1925, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of Jay and Helen Taubman Leonhardt. He was a life-long area resident, was a Fonda High School graduate in 1943, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Union College in 1948. Mr. Leonhardt was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and served at the rank of Master sergeant.

After his service he attended and graduated from Albany Law School. For a time he served as Clerk for the Montgomery County Surrogate's Court in Fonda and later started his private law practice in 1964, which is now known as Leonhardt & Kruger P.C. in Fultonville.
Mr. Leonhardt was a member of: 56 years with the Fultonville Lodge #531 F.& A.M.; District Deputy Grand Master of Fultonville and Montgomery District in 1965 and 1966; he was on the New York State Masonic Grand Lodge Committee of Youth from 1977 to 1989; New York State Bar Association; American Legion in Fonda; Montgomery County Republican Club and served at one time as Montgomery County Republican Chairman; and was a trustee for the Frothingham Free Library in Fonda.

He was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda.

Mr. Leonhardt was married on August 11, 1951, to the former Margaret Dyer. Besides his wife, survivors include: a son, John R. Leonhardt of Roswell, GA; two daughters, Margaret Conger of Chicago, IL, and Mary Leonhardt of Fonda; 3 granddaughters, Sarah, Jennifer and Emily; a great granddaughter, Laura; nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Orth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Fonda, with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Frothingham Free Library, Main Street, Fonda, NY 12068, or to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Richard C. Dutcher

Mr. Richard C. Dutcher, 55, of Johnstown, died suddenly Saturday, May 7. He was born in Gloversville on May 28, 1949, son of Betty Ann Nellis Dutcher and the late Carleton Dutcher Jr. Richard was educated in Gloversville schools and a 1968 graduate of Gloversville High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam from October 1969 to October 1970, receiving the Purple Heart. When discharged from the Army, he returned to Gloversville, and began his career with Nathan Littauer Hospital. Richard had been a mechanic in the engineering department at the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a former member of the Sir William Johnson Volunteer Fire Department. Richard was also a member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge. Survivors include his children, David R. Dutcher of Johnstown and Lisa Palumbo and her husband Michael of Johnstown. He is also survived by three brothers, Carleton Dutcher III of Mayfield, Alan Dutcher and Michael Dutcher, both of Gloversville; a grandson, Sean Palumbo. He is also survived by his mother of Gloversville. A sister, Kathleen Ann Dutcher predeceased him.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 7 p.m. from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-7 p.m. prior to the service. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Burial in Ferndale Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.

John P. Mc Evoy
Tuesday, May 10, 2005
John P. Mc Evoy, 94, of Gloversville, died Sunday afternoon at his home, where he left this earth to be in the arms of the Lord. Born in Gloversville March 19, 1911, the son of Frank and Delia Ellis Mc Evoy. He had worked at Simco Leather in Johnstown for 25 years, retiring in 1985. John was also a sign painter, painting signs for various businesses in the area, local grocery stores and at one time, all the signs at Kingsboro Golf Course. An avid fisherman and golfer, he was also a communicate of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. On June 30, 1940, he married Tillie Lewis, who died July 19, 1991. Survived by 2 nieces and his adopted family of Plattsburgh, Broadalbin, Gloversville and Amsterdam. He was predeceased by his 3 brothers, Francis, Lawrence and Robert Mc Evoy. Friends may call Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main St. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will be at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
