George R Williams

WESTFORD — George R "Bud" Williams, 80, passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, peacefully at home with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Westford, the son of Herbert T. and Georgia W. (Roseboom) Williams.

Bud was a World War II United States Army veteran. He served with General Patton’s Third Army in Europe.

He was a lifelong resident of the town of Westford. He was a member of the Westford United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Otsego County Town Supervisor Association, and a past member of the Mid Statesmen Barber Shop Choirs and the Westford Volunteer Fire Department.

Bud is survived by his wife of 10 years, Nan P. Williams; six children, Janet W. Bloodgood, Susan M. Williams, Robert E. and wife, Alana, Williams, Sandra B. and husband, Lee Hillis, William G. and wife, Kathy, Williams, and Deborah A. and husband, Ronald, Kapushinski; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Van Etten and Lois Brunschmid; a brother, Thomas H. Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 47 years, Geraldine H. Williams, a brother, Gerald B. Williams, and a sister, June I. Ritton.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Westford United Methodist Church, Westford, with the Rev. Rose Bellen, pastor of the Westville United Methodist Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place in the spring at the Westford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westford United Methodist Church, General Fund, care of Milly Meiser, 305 Middlefield Road, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St., Worcester.

Ann Pollack

WALTON — Ann Pollack, 87, of the Countryside Care Center passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 2004, after a short illness.

Mrs. Pollack was born June 8, 1917, in Beacon, the daughter of the late William and Ann Butler.

She was employed for many years at Vasser College, Poughkeepsie, as a switchboard operator.

She married Stephen Pollack in Beacon. He died in 1984. Mrs. Pollack loved collecting dolls, cooking and knitting.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Sramek of Delhi and John Pollack of Walton; six grandchildren, William and Kathy Sramek, Michael Sramek, Derry and Sandy Sramek, Janice and Steven Vitek, Michele and Larry Phoenix and David Hemroth; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Carl and Joan Butler of Beacon; a sister, Roberta Butler of Sidney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two sons, William and Martin Sramek; and three brothers, William, Bobby and Sonny Butler.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Delbert Ripley officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hopewell Rural Cemetery, Hopewell Junction.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Pollack’s memory may be made to the Delaware County Humane Society, Delhi. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available at the funeral home.

George W. Walrath

COOPERSTOWN — Mr. George William Walrath, 83, of Cooperstown, died Friday morning, Dec. 24, 2004, at Otsego Manor.

George was born March 10, 1921, in the city of Oneonta, a son of William M. and Edith May (Johnson) Walrath.

He married Shirley Marie Chandler Busse on March 17, 1984, in Cooperstown.

After attending New Berlin High School, George entered the United States Army on Sept. 27, 1940, and served his country during World War II in the 36th Infantry Division. During his time in the service, he drove military vehicles that transported soldiers and materials throughout Central Europe, Italy, Rhineland and Southern France.

Upon his honorable discharge June 29, 1945, from the United States Army, he returned to the Cooperstown area and was employed for the next 45 years as a truck driver with Mitchell’s Moving and Storage.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his son in Florida.

George is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley of Cooperstown; one daughter, Barbara Gerth of Leesburg, Fla.; one son, George Walrath and his wife, Karen ("Candy,") of Oviedo, Fla.; several grandchildren; two brothers, William Walrath and his wife, Marion, of Maryland, and Earl Walrath of Hartwick Seminary and Supply, N.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Susan Walrath; one son, Douglas Walrath; three sisters, Helen Brigham, Mary House and Kathryn M. Richards; and two brothers, Robert L. Walrath and Lester Walrath.

A memorial service will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in Hartwick Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday morning, when George’s family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, PO Box 322, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Manfred Bernard Weidemann

SCHUYLER LAKE — Mr. Manfred Bernard Weidemann of Schuyler Lake, a photographer and owner of Pioneer Photo in Cooperstown, died unexpectedly late Thursday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the town of Milford. He was 69.

Born Feb. 22, 1935, in Hamburg, Germany, he was a son of the late Bernard and Frida Rebecca (Brand) Weidemann. Raised and educated in Germany, he received his photography master’s and then immigrated in 1958 to Montreal, Canada.

It was here that he met his wife, Marie Andree Trempe, and they moved to New Jersey, where they were married March 21, 1961. The Weidemanns made their home in Newfoundland, N.J., and he was employed in the photography field in Paterson, N.J.

The family moved to Schuyler Lake in October of 1985, and six months later, opened Pioneer Photo, on Pioneer Street in the village of Cooperstown. Throughout the years, he was involved with photography for Glimmerglass Opera and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

While photography was a vital part of Manfred’s life, he was equally devoted to his family, and especially loved teaching his grandchildren chess and soccer. He also enjoyed fishing and reading books on history.

A wonderful husband, father, and friend to many, he will be greatly missed.

Manfred is survived by his wife, Andree, of Schuyler Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Carina Franck and her husband, Patrick, of Cooperstown; one son, Pierre Weidemann of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, Thomas and Katherine Franck; and two sisters, Marion Hagenah and Gitta Rose of Germany.

He was predeceased by one brother, Berndt Weidemann.

A memorial service will be offered at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, Bassett Healthcare, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Patrick C. Myers

HALCOTTSVILLE — Patrick C. Myers, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.

He was born Nov. 7, 1929, in New York City, the son of Edward and Margaret (Brian) Myers.

Patrick married Dorothy Ann Leible on June 7, 1953, in Flushing.

He was in the United States Army. He was a carpenter and belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union.

Patrick was a school bus driver for 23 years, working for Varsity School Bus Company.

He was a member of Local No. 1181 ATU and a past member of VFW in New York City. He was a fire police officer for the Halcottsville Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, camping and trading vehicles.

Patrick owned property in Halcottsville for 30 years, and for the past 15 years it was his permanent home.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Dorothy Myers; son, Charles Myers; daughter, Dorothy Thalassinos; two grandchildren, Michael and Victoria; four sisters; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt officiating.

Burial will be in Halcottsville Cemetery, Halcottsville.

Contributions may be made, in memory of Patrick C. Myers, to the memorial fund of Margaretville Memorial Hospital or the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Jessie S. Beckley

GENEVA — Jessie Slocum Beckley, 95, of Geneva and formerly of Unadilla passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at the Geneva Living Center North.

She was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Penn Yan, the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Castner) Slocum.

Jessie was married to Glenn C. Beckley on Feb. 3, 1945, in Syracuse. Mr. Beckley predeceased her March 28, 1991.

She was a retired elementary school teacher, employed by the Unatego Central School System for many years.

Jessie was a member of and held many positions in the Unadilla United Methodist Church, Unadilla Women’s Club, Unadilla Rebekah Lodge, Unadilla Fire Department Auxiliary and the Unadilla PTO.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Linda Beckley of Geneva; her grandson and his wife, Jayson and Paula Post of Austin, Texas; her granddaughters, Meredith and Katherine Beckley of Geneva; a great-grandson, Zach Post of Austin, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Roger Slocum, and her sister, Mary S. Todd.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Kip Stratton, pastor of the Unadilla United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be held in the spring in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call from 1 until service time at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla United Methodist Church, 170 Main St., Unadilla, NY 13849.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Bessie Vita Sirena

PORT CHESTER — Mrs. Bessie Vita Sirena, 77, of King Street died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Conn.

Mrs. Sirena was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Port Chester, the daughter of Paul and Ida (Tigani) Vita. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Marinello’s Hair Dressing School, 5th Ave., New York City.

For many years she was a beautician, working last at Ernest and Josephine’s Hair Design in Mamaroneck.

She was a communicant of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 93 Ladies Auxiliary and St. Anne Sodality in Port Chester.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Sirena of West Harrison and Judy Sirena of Summit; a son, Frank Sirena Jr. and his wife, Sueli, of Milford, Conn.; and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Paul Sirena.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Port Chester.

Friends called from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Craft Memorial Home, 40 Leicester St., Port Chester.

Spring interment will be in Summit Cemetery, Summit.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Schoharie Valley Animal Shelter, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.

Ralph G. Titch

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ralph G. Titch of Oneonta will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Walton, 55 Townsend St. No flowers, please.

Ralph went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. He was 81.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the A.O. Fox Nursing Home Activities Fund, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Barbara W. Henderson

ONEONTA — Barbara W. Henderson of Southside Drive, Oneonta, died at her home Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, with her family by her side.

Barbara was born July 12, 1933, in Teaneck, N.J., the daughter of John S. and Helen E. (Adair) Weeks.

She graduated from Dumont High School, Dumont, N.J., in 1952, and was employed at Home Life Insurance Company in New York for a few years.

Barbara married Robert L. Henderson Jr. on March 24, 1956, in Harrington Park, N.J.

She also worked at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator for several years. Barbara was a 49-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was an ordained elder.

She was a member of the Martha Chapter Number 116 Order of the Eastern Star, having joined in 1962. She served as matron in 1977 and DDGM of Otsego-Schoharie District in 1983. Barbara was a member of the DAR Oneonta Chapter and Oneonta Garden Club. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines for several years.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert L. Henderson of Oneonta; three children, James S. and his wife, Pamela E., Henderson of Vernon, Deborah E. and her husband, Timothy, Raymond of Sacramento, Calif., and Robin H. and her husband, the Rev. Raymond S., Thomas of Tucson, Ariz.; two beloved grandchildren, Britney S. and Andrew R. Thomas of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Helen and her husband, Stan, DeVoe of Florida, and Virginia and her husband, Dallas, Wassink of Oregon; a brother-in-law, Hugh and his wife, Betty, Henderson of Oneonta; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Steven Weeks.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 5:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Patricia Raube-Wilson officiating.

Burial at the Glenwood Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Edna E. Palmater

ORISKANY — Edna E. Palmater, 97, formerly of Otego and most recently of Oriskany, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, with her family by her side at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany.

She was born Dec. 31, 1906, in Edmeston, the daughter of Irwin and Lena (Sitts) Davis.

She married James Avery Palmater on April 11, 1925, in Hartwick. Mr. Palmater died June 17, 1973.

Edna earned her teacher’s permit from Cortland and then taught school for three years. She was employed by the Knights Nursing Home in Wells Bridge as an assistant cook, as well as VanGorder’s Nursing Home in Otego and the Oneonta Nursing Home until her retirement.

Edna had lived in Otego from 1947 until Mr. Palmater’s death in 1973.

Edna was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in West Oneonta.

She is survived by her children, John A. Palmater of Lyons, Lena Anderson and her husband, David, of Morris and Zephyrhills, Fla., Guila Craig of Largo, Fla., Loralae Caplette of Brooksville, Fla., Susanna Dority and her husband, James, of Cross Plains, Tenn., and Marie Bates and her husband, David, of Rome. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Four children, Russell Palmater, Marian Palmater, Kathleen Palmater and Carol Palmater; and three sisters, Gladys Marr, Irene Osborn and Mildred Brownell, predeceased her.

Funeral services for Edna E. Palmater will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Pastor Rob Mackay of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, West Oneonta, officiating.

Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, and at 1 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the spring in Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
