Lori M. Crandall

SIDNEY — Lori M. Crandall, 48, of Sidney and formerly of Guilford passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was predeceased by her father, Kenneth M. Ackerson, in 1956.

Lori will be missed by her mother, Janice M. Lindsey, Norwich, formerly of Guilford; loving husband, David Crandall, Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Lucas D. Codington and Sarah K. Hackett-Codington, Unadilla; her most precious gifts, her granddaughters, Cambre and Tatum Codington; stepson, Justin D. Crandall, Sidney; sister, Lisa Ackerson, Norwich; parents-in-law, Carl and Kathy Crandall, Sidney; brother-in-law, Mark Crandall and his wife, Lori, New Jersey; aunt and uncle, Judy and Tom Clark, Endwell; as well as her beloved pets and many special relatives and dear friends.

Lori was employed as a nurse for Bassett Health Services in the dialysis unit in Oneonta.

She enjoyed a love of reading, flowers, the seashore and sunshine.

Lori was a loving mother and grandmother that was devoted to and most happy surrounded by family and providing meals.

Lori’s family would like to extend special thanks to the Chenango County Hospice for their support and dedication, to all her very special friends and caregivers: Kathy and Lori Crandall, Pat Barnard, Theresa Tumminia and Diane Savarese. Also, their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to friends and co-workers at Bassett Healthcare Dialysis Unit of Oneonta, and Amphenol Corp., Sidney, for their support and generosity during Lori’s illness.

Her friends and family will greatly miss her outrageous laugh and her caring ways.

To celebrate her life, her family invites friends and family to join them from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Helen B. Hendricks

BUTTS CORNERS — Helen B. Hendricks, 79, formerly of Butts Corners, Davenport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born Jan. 30, 1925, in the Bronx, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Miller) Bauer.

She moved from New York City to Butts Corners, Davenport, in 1952 and lived there until June 2003, when she moved to Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

She married William E. Staiber on Jan. 31, 1943, in the Bronx. She later married Carl Hendricks on June 1, 1985, in Butts Corners. He predeceased her Aug. 7, 1999.

Mrs. Hendricks was a member of St. Theresa’s Church. Helen was an avid Yankee fan. She enjoyed crafts and the shop that she ran from her home at Butts Corners.

She is survived by her children, Barbara (Richard) Burr of Oneonta, Carol (Harold) Brownell, Walton, William Staiber and William Vreeland of Boston, Mass., and Paul (MaDonna) Staiber, Davenport; a stepdaughter, Janye Hendricks of Miami, Fla., and Paul Koota of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Brownell, Freeville, Matthew Brownell, Oneonta, Kristie (Gregory) Hill, Marietta, Ga., Andrew Burr, Orlando, Fla., Lisa Staiber, Davenport, Linda Staiber, Davenport; great-grandson, Jacob Hill of Marietta, Ga.; her brother, Charles Bauer, Oneonta; nephews, Stephen and Kenneth Bauer; and many cousins. Her former husband, William Staiber, Oneonta; and special friends, Rita Cobb and Dave and Evie Dietz, also survive.

Graveside services will take place in the spring at Davenport Center, Davenport.

Helen’s children would like to thank the staff and residents of Robinson Terrace and the Hospice staff in Stamford for the excellent care and kindness shown to Helen.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Davenport Fire Department or Davenport First Responders, Main Street, Davenport, NY 13750.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Marion Mossman

DENNIS, Mass. — Marion DuBois Mossman, 87, died peacefully at home in Dennis, Mass., on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004.

Marion was born Aug. 12, 1917, in the town of Gardiner to the late Frank and Grace Wilklow DuBois. She attended school in Gardiner and New Paltz and received a teaching degree from the New Paltz Normal School in 1937. Marion enjoyed a rewarding teaching career in Walden and Somers schools.

On Dec. 15, 1951, Marion married Donald P. Mossman Jr. in Gardiner. They resided in North Salem until retiring to Cape Cod, Mass., in 1980.

Music was an important part of Marion’s life. She was a member and organist at the Dutch Reformed Church in Gardiner and was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem, where she served as organist and choir director for more than 20 years.

Marion was proud to have grown up on a dairy farm in rural New York. Throughout her life she extolled humility and grace and placed great importance on the simple things in life.

Marion is survived by her husband, Donald; her stepson and his wife, Donald and Libby of Bedford; her stepson, Elliott of Princetown, N.J.; her son and his wife, Dwight and Joan of Brewster; her son, Garrett of North Salem; her daughter, Marion, and her partner, Gerianne Carillo, of Milford; seven grandchildren, Sara and Alexandra Mossman, Bedford, Ellen Mossman, Merion Station, Pa., Lauren, Sean, Ryan and David Mossman, Brewster; and her sister, Evelyn F. DuBois, Katonah.

Family and friends called from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth, Mass.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Clark Funeral Home in Katonah.

Funeral services for Marion Mossman will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Katonah, with interment following in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery, New Paltz.

The family would like to thank all of the staff of Caring Hearts Inc., and the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod for their help and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Caring Hearts Inc., 30 Hawthorn St., South Dennis, MA 02660.

Florence K. Casey

GUILFORD — Florence K. Casey, 88, of Guilford passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

She was born Sept. 24, 1916, daughter of the late Herman and Christina Breezena Rieger in New York City.

Florence married William Leonard Casey in 1935 in New York City. He predeceased her Feb. 5, 1955.

She moved from Valley Stream, Long Island, to Guilford in 1962 and purchased a dairy farm.

Florence is survived by seven children, William L. Casey Jr., New Jersey, Lawrence P. Casey, Los Angeles, Calif., Paul V. Casey, Guilford, John J. Casey, Guilford, Joseph P. Casey, Bainbridge, Mary Holstein, Seattle, Wash., and Peter A. Casey, Florida; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by her son, Michael Casey, and grandson, Aaron M. Casey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Robert Dwyer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Yaleville Cemetery in Guilford.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Jessie S. Beckley

GENEVA — Jessie Slocum Beckley, 95, of Geneva and formerly of Unadilla, who passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Doris Beckley of Unadilla and Evelyn Beckley of Otego.

Junior F. Wilcox

BROOKFIELD — Junior Floyd Wilcox, 75, of the town of Brookfield passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at home.

He was born June 8, 1929, in the town of Columbus, the son of Floyd and Emma (Winton) Wilcox.

Junior married Bernice Yankowski Wilcox on Sept. 5, 1949. She predeceased him May 18, 1999.

He spent his childhood in the town of Columbus, and attended 5 Corners School.

Junior was employed by Kraft Foods of South Edmeston for 25 years and became a livestock farmer after his retirement. He was a member of the Columbus Quarter Church, town of Columbus.

Junior is survived by his children, James and Lynette Wilcox, Brookfield, Dean and Susan Wilcox, Brookfield, Donna and Jack Vunk, Edmeston, and William and Marge Wilcox, Brookfield; grandchildren, Matt, Brad and Chad Wilcox, Kevin and Amanda Neidhart, Scott, Rob and Erick Wilcox, Jeremy and April Vunk, Kari, Joe and Kris Vunk, and Justin, Ryan, Cory and Derick Wilcox; stepgrandchildren, Katie, Megan and Will Ziers; one great-grandson, Jack Vunk; and brother, Fay Wilcox, Morris.

He was predeceased by Ann Park, Ike Wilcox, Melvin Wilcox, Richard Wilcox and Bonnie Yankowski.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Ernest Clemmens officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brookfield Fire Department, Brookfield, NY 13314.

Funeral arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Beven S. Long

MOUNT UPTON — Beven S. Long Jr., 68, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, passed away suddenly Sunday evening, Dec. 26, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Beven S. Long Sr. and Doris (Robinson) Long.

He married the former Diane Schweitzer on June 17, 1982, in North Warren, Pa.

Beven lived in Mount Upton for the past 12 years. Before moving to Mount Upton, he was a corporate comptroller for Ron Enck in Rochester and had also been a corporate comptroller for Interroyal in Warren, Pa., and a financial analyst for Bendix Corporation in Sidney before becoming a pastor.

He taught Dale Carnegie seminars from 1981-82. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Webster, past master of the Masonic Lodge in Masonville, and a member of the Rolling Antique Car Club in Norwich. He was a political activist. He co-sponsored an environmental group in Butternuts, Coalition to Actively Protect the Environment (CAPE). He was on the board of directors for four years for the Citizens Environmental Coalition of New York.

He received an award for being an environmentalist for stopping land septage in Otsego County. Beven was an artist and sometimes a poet.

He clearly loved his family, the environment we live in, his church families and five fur family (cats) and loved his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Long of Mount Upton; three sons, Beven S. Long III of Connecticut, John Long of Massachusetts, and Adam B. Grosch of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Kathleen Long of Hollywood, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Heather Long of Springfield, Mass.; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Fred Merril of Alabama; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Beven IV, Megan and Justin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Beven S. Long.

A service to celebrate the life of Pastor Beven S. Long Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the Otego United Methodist Church, Church Street, Otego, with the Rev. Maryanne Linder of the Mount Upton United Methodist Church officiating.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Gilbert J. Liddle

ANDES — Gilbert J. Liddle, 86, of Andes passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Gib was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Andes, the son of Oliver J. Liddle and Elsie Gregory. He never married.

Gib attended Andes Central School. He was a dairy farmer all of his life. He was a 52-year member of the Andes Fire Department and was a past director of the Bovina Center Creamery. He enjoyed bowling.

Gib is survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Aasta Liddle of Andes and Richard and Ann Liddle of Andes; two sisters, Marjorie Drew of Hamden and Martha Blish of Margaretville; brother-in-law, Stanley Reed of Andes; sister-in-law, Jeanette Liddle of Norfolk, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, George Liddle, and sisters, Mary Liddle Gabriel and Virginia Liddle Reed.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the United Presbyterian Church in Andes with the Rev. Daniel McCollister officiating.

Burial will be in Andes Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be sent to the Andes Cemetery Association, Andes or to the United Presbyterian Church, Andes, NY 13731.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Judith Lamprecht

DELMAR — Judith "Judy" Heltman Lamprecht, 86, of Delmar died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Syracuse on Feb. 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Syracuse University Professor Harry J. Heltman and the late Helen (Caflisch) Heltman of Syracuse.

She was raised in Syracuse and was educated at the Northfield School and Syracuse University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in theater and a Master of Arts in English literature. While studying for her MA, she worked at Syracuse radio station WOLF, where she met her future husband, Joseph Lamprecht Jr. Upon completing her MA, she filled a maternity leave teaching vacancy in Cooperstown for one semester.

After she married, Judy was employed by Syracuse University, first as a secretary and then as a teacher of report writing to Army Air Corps cadets. Her husband was employed by the New York Telephone Company, which required them to move eight times, including to Cooperstown for two years, before settling in Delmar, where she lived for 35 years.

Judy used her voice and dramatic talents, combined with extensive professional training, to direct variety shows for the Delmar Progress Club, the Delmar Reformed Church, several amateur theater companies, Childs Hospital and many social groups. She sang in many church choirs, played piano whenever needed and gave piano lessons for many years.

As a Sigma Kappa, she was a long-standing member of the Albany Pan-Hellenic Association, serving as president several times, and for many years she delivered "Meals on Wheels."

Judy is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Joseph Lamprecht Jr. of Delmar; a sister, Rebecca Heltman Griffiths of Rochester; her son, Jeremy Lamprecht of Jackson Heights; her daughter, Cynthia Lamprecht Wetzell of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren, Jacqueline Lamprecht Farley of Ramsey, N.J., Carly Lamprecht Immen of Farmingdale, N.J., Ethan Wetzell of Minneapolis, Minn., Galen Wetzell of Minneapolis, Minn., Dustin Lamprecht of Jackson Heights, and Travis Lamprecht of Jackson Heights; and four great-granddaughters, Aislinn Farley, Kaelin Farley, Charlotte Immen and Mary Catherine Immen.

She was predeceased by a sister, Doris Heltman Fisk, a sister, Mary Heltman Malefyt, and a brother, George Heltman.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Judith H. Lamprecht to the charity of your choice.

Judy graciously donated her remains to the Anatomical Gift Program of the Albany Medical College.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Edna E. Palmater

ORISKANY — Edna E. Palmater, 97, formerly of Otego and most recently of Oriskany, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, with her family by her side at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany.

She was born Dec. 31, 1906, in Edmeston, the daughter of Irwin and Lena (Sitts) Davis.

She married James Avery Palmater on April 11, 1925, in Hartwick. Mr. Palmater died June 17, 1973.

Edna earned her teacher’s permit from Cortland and then taught school for three years. She was employed by the Knights Nursing Home in Wells Bridge as an assistant cook, as well as VanGorder’s Nursing Home in Otego and the Oneonta Nursing Home, until her retirement.

Edna had lived in Otego from 1932 until Mr. Palmater’s death in 1973. Edna was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in West Oneonta.

She is survived by her children, John A. Palmater and his wife, Rosie, of Lyons, Lena Anderson of Morris and Zephyrhills, Fla., Guila Craig of Largo, Fla., Lorraine Caplette of Brooksville, Fla., Susanna Dority and her husband, James, of Cross Plains, Tenn., and Marie Bates and her husband, David, of Rome. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Four children, Russell Palmater, Marian Palmater, Kathleen Palmater and Carol Palmater; three sisters, Gladys Marr, Irene Osborn and Mildred Brownell, predeceased her.

Funeral services for Edna E. Palmater will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Pastor Rob Mackay of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, West Oneonta, officiating. Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004. Friends may call at 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the spring in Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Rose M. Neice

STAMFORD — Rose Meeghan Neice of Stamford passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Seventh Heaven Adult Home, where she had been a resident since 1994.

She was born Oct. 8, 1906, in South Jefferson, daughter of Peter and Julia (Brady) Meeghan.

Rose worked for the New York Telephone Company for 48 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, which she served as secretary for several years.

She loved to travel and made several trips to Ireland.

Rose is survived by her nieces, Mary (Vincent) Trimbell, Bovina Center, Anna Mae (Frank) Collins, Stamford, Libby (Sam) Miglianti, South Kortright, Marie (Edd) Martin, South Kortright, Lavonne (Edd) Bain, Florida, and Pat (Bob) Vern, North Carolina; nephews, Joseph and Alda Meeghan, Tennessee, Eddie and Barbara Meeghan, Wisconsin, and David Meeghan, Schenectady; 18 great-nieces and -nephews; 20 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and six great-great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her mother and father, and brothers, Roy, Francis, John and Raymond.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Michael Cournoyer.

Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Contributions may be made in Rose Meeghan Neice’s memory to the Stamford Rescue or Fire Department, Stamford, NY 12167 or to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Barbara T. Rose

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Barbara T. Rose of Port Charlotte, Fla., and a former resident of the Tri-Town area passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late John Kenneth and Ethel Marie Thompson.

She was a graduate of the Delaware Academy, Delhi, and continued her education at the Eastman School of Dental Hygiene, Rochester.

On July 16, 1950, she married Clarence "Ozzie" Ostrander. He predeceased her April 5, 1980. Barbara later married Donovan "Bud" Rose on July 23, 1983. He predeceased her Oct. 3, 2002.

Barbara is survived by her children, Linda and David Bornstein of Sidney, Corinne and Bill Alvino of Durham, N.C., and John and Debra Ostrander of Oneonta; and her stepchildren, Delevan Rose of Glastonbury, Conn., and Donna Hoyt of Binghamton. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Hospice of Port Charlotte, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Local arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
