Lillian Newfield Markam, 104, of Lake Worth, Fla., died Wednesday. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Cortland Normal School and lived in Syracuse until about eight years ago. She taught school in Oneida; Des Moines, Iowa; and Solvay. She was a member of Temple Society of Concord and was a member and past president of Hadassah. Her husband of more than 50 years, Wolfe, died in 1980. Survivors: Two daughters, Natalie Waldman of Syracuse and Jeanne Grossman of Lake Worth, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. No calling hours. Birnbaum Funeral Service, Syracuse, has arrangements. Charles F. O'Brien

Charles F. O'Brien, 85, of Central Square died Tuesday. Born in Syracuse, he had lived in Sodus, Cleveland and Constantia several years before moving to Central Square in 2000. He graduated from Sodus High School. He retired in 1981 as an automobile salesman for Ken Robie Chevrolet in Newark. He was a member of Bernhards Bay United Methodist Church. His first wife, Elizabeth, died in 1980. Survivors: His wife of 20 years, the former Mary Rollo Goss; a son, Charles F. Jr. of Rockport, Maine; a daughter, Ruth Bodine of Sodus; three stepdaughters, Joan Dauerty of Chuckey, Tenn., Dixie Chappell of Bernhards Bay and Arlene Rhinehart of Champlain; a sister, Margaret Bradshaw of El Paso,  Texas; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Traub Funeral Home. Burial, Lakewood Cemetery. Calling hours, 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 684 N. Main St., Central Square. Friedrich "Fritz" Roggenthien, 78, of Palm Beach, Fla., died Tuesday. Born in West Falen, Germany, he came to Syracuse in 1958. He had lived 43 years on Kirkville Road in DeWitt before moving to Florida in 2001. He retired in 1985 as a tool-and-die maker at General Motors Corp. in Salina after 27 years. He was past president of Arion Singing Society and was a member of Arion Mens Chorus, Arion Stein Club and German War Veterans. His wife, Thea, died in 2000. Survivors: Two daughters, Gabriele Olivieri of Manlius and Jutta Pietrucha of Pompey; a son, Uwe of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; two sisters, Herta Schaeben and Erika Eick, both of Germany; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anthony J. Tartaro, 79, of Onondaga Hill died Wednesday. He was a life resident of Syracuse and attended Le Moyne College. He owned Tartaro Trucking Co. for 18 years. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Cooney-Nojaim Post. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: Three daughters, Nina Tyler of Onondaga Hill, Christina J. Tartaro of Pulaski and Lori D. Tartaro of Syracuse; four sons, Anthony L. of Onondaga Hill, Joseph N. of Syracuse, Louis F. of Concord,  Calif., and Jeffrey V. of Parker, Ariz.; four sisters, Rose Farnett of Syracuse, Lucy VanDyke of Onondaga Hill, Frances Freeman of Whittier,  Calif., and Mary Speach of Glen Ridge, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services: 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Badman Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours, 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 4504 W. Charles J. Boyle, 76, of Onondaga Hill died Wednesday. Born in New York City, he lived on Onondaga Hill 31 years. He was a salesman for Cooper Industries for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and then a Trappist monk for 12 years. He was a volunteer at Van Duyn Home & Hospital for 22 years and a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Survivors: His wife, the former Eleanor Sternecker; two sons, Joseph W. of Bronx and Charles D. of Pleasant Hill,  Calif.; a sister, Joan Costello of Estes Park,  Colo.; a brother, Father Joseph Boyle of Snowmass,  Colo. Services: 9:30 a.m. Monday at Butler-Badman Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial, Tuesday in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram. Dorothy C. Burdick

Dorothy C. Callahan Burdick, 83, formerly of 4636 State St., Oneida Castle, died Wednesday. Born in Cazenovia, she graduated from Cazenovia High School and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse in private and pediatric duty at the former Oneida City Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Oneida and a member of its Altar Rosary Society and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Survivors: A daughter, Patricia Belcer of Mayville; a son, James R. of Rochester; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Church. Beatrice Bush Carpenter, 80, of 218 Genesee St., Auburn, died Wednesday. Born in Ithaca, she graduated from Holy Family High School. She was a cook and housekeeper for 12 years at Stella Maris Retreat Center in Skaneateles. She was a member and past president of Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Auburn. She was treasurer and a member of the Hall of Fame for Auburn Women's Bowling Association. She retired as a home health aide from Cayuga Health Association. She was a member of Holy Family Church. Her husband, Edwin J., died in 1986. Survivors: Two daughters, Karen Corgnell of Greene and Diane O'Connell of Auburn; three sons, Roger, Alan and Kevin Carpenter, all of Auburn; two sisters, Mary Adams of Auburn and Katherine Mc Master of Elbridge; a brother, Kenneth Bush of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Frank W. Chard, 87, formerly of Bishop's Commons, Oswego, died Thursday at Pontiac Nursing Home in Oswego. Born in Surrey, England, he attended schools in England and came to America in 1949. He became an American citizen in 1955. He retired in 1979 as a project engineer at Black Clawson Co. in Fulton after many years. He was a member of Church of the Resurrection and the Free & Accepted Masons Lake City Lodge 127. He was an English 8th Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Dorothy, died in 1996. Survivor: A sister, Lillian Perowne of England. Services: 10 a.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, 124 W. Fifth St., Oswego. Burial, Riverside Cemetery, Oswego. Helen Poszywak Latynski, 91, of Queen Mary Apartments, North Syracuse, died Tuesday at Birchwood Health Care Center in Liverpool. Born in Pittsburgh, she had also lived in Michigan, Ohio and  West Virginia before moving to North Syracuse. She was a homemaker and had worked at Federal Department Store in Detroit in the 1950s. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse and was a member of the Pots and Pans Band at Birchwood. Her first husband, Zygment Paciorek, died in 1954; her second husband, Julius Latynski, died in 1988. Survivors: A daughter, Constance Riter of North Syracuse; a son, Leonard Paciorek of North Syracuse; a stepdaughter, Rose Langfitt of North Canton, Ohio; two stepsons, Thomas Latynski of  West Virginia and John Latynski of Follensby, W.Va.; a brother, Anthony Poszywak of Weirton, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
