Donald W. Ashmore

LAURENS — Mr. Donald W. Ashmore, 73, of Laurens passed away Friday, April 15, 2005, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Susan Melander, David Ashmore and Christopher Ashmore; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Haberman of Riverhead; and a brother, John Ashmore of Rocky Point.

Interment will take place later.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Doris E. Warner

DEPOSIT — Doris E. Warner, 95, of Deposit died April 18, 2005, at Good Shepherd Fairview Home in Binghamton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herold Warner, a daughter, Carol Saullo, and a son, Lynn Warner.

She is survived by children and their spouses, Lawrence and Hazel Warner of Newark Valley, John and Joanne Warner of Guilford, Jean and Richard Mills of Windsor, Marilyn and Wayne Hess of Deposit and Judith and Charles Miller of Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Warner of Walton; a son-in-law, Anthony Saullo of Hazelton, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Deposit First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member and past matron of Delaware Chapter No. 244 O.E.S.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Zacharias Funeral Home in Deposit with the Rev. James Valentine, pastor of the Newark Valley First United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Deposit First United Methodist Church.

Rosemary B. Shea

ONEONTA — Rosemary Bowers Shea, 68, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 16, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Roscoe, the daughter of Jack and Frederica (Goodrich) Bowers.

Rosemary graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College in 1958 and was a member of Alpha Kappa Phi Sorority. She was a certified elementary school teacher and taught briefly at Charlotte Valley Central School.

Rosemary was very active in Oneonta and Davenport local politics. She was an elected member of the Oneonta City School Board in 1974 and played an instrumental role in preventing the closure of Center Street School.

In 1976, she was a delegate to the Democratic Convention, and later was invited by the president of the United States and Mrs. Carter to the White House. Rosemary was also the vice-chair and chair of the Otsego County Democratic Committee. She was one of the first woman county chairs in New York state.

Rosemary was employed by the New York State Labor Department from 1976 to 1978. She was the owner/broker of Shea-Meadow Realty from 1986 to 2000. Rosemary was also the town of Davenport assessor for eight years.

Rosemary’s interests and hobbies were quilting, traveling, camping, spending time at her cottage in Quebec, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Michael Shea and his wife, Julie, Brian Shea and his companion, Judy Speranzi, Daniel Shea and his wife, Christine, Patrick Shea and his wife, Rebecca, Dennis Shea and his wife, Patty Anne, Mathew Shea and his companion, Kelly MacPherson, and Mary Kate Shea and her husband, Michael Miglianti; her grandchildren, Jimmy, Megan, Leah, Mike, Jessica, Brittany, Breelin, Emily, Natalie, Delaney, Abigail, Sarah, Danny, Lila, Brian Shea, and Michael and Brad Shires; three brothers, Edward, Allen, and Jon Bowers; and also by her former husband, Dennis Shea.

Calling hours were held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta with the Rev. Anthony Chiaramonte and the Rev. Joseph Benintende as celebrants.

Jacob Tyler Swartz

HAVERHILL, Mass. — Jacob Tyler Swartz, 9-month-old son of Christopher and Starlene (Osborne) Swartz of Haverhill, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at the Lawrence (MA) General Hospital.

He was born in Boston on July 19, 2004.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Celina Cintron of Haverhill; paternal grandparents, Robert and Tina (Lewandowski) Swartz of Fort Plain; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Bonnie (Norton) Osborne of Starr, N.C.; great-grandparents, Ralph and Thelma Swartz of Fort Plain, Inge Lewandowski of Fort Plain and George Norton of Oneonta; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, Mass.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill.

Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St. Lawrence, MA, 01843.

Stewart J. Geywits

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Stewart J. Geywits, 90, of Millstone Road entered into eternal rest Sunday night, April 17, 2005, at his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side at the time of his passing.

He was born Dec. 9, 1914, in the town of Warren, son of the late Lynn and Mabel McCrory Geywits. A lifelong Warren resident, he was educated in Richfield Springs and VanHornesville.

On Aug. 3, 1941, he was united in marriage with Rose Lucas in Richfield Springs.

Over the years, Mr. Geywits held various jobs. He was a farmer and sold farm machinery for White’s Farm Supply. He had delivered cars for Skinner-Damulis Ford and most notably served for 14 years as highway superintendent for the town of Warren.

He had a strong belief in God and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of the Warren Grange and the Republican Club of southern Herkimer County.

Stewart was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Surviving, besides his devoted wife of 64 years, Rose, are two sons, Ronald and his wife, Barbara, Geywits of Delhi and Robert Geywits of Burlington Flats; a sister, Dora Wood of Mohawk; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a cousin, Mary Sitterly.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Geywits, in 1953.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, officiating. Interment will be in Springfield Center Cemetery.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Viola M. Wilsey

WALLINGFORD, Pa. — Viola M. Wilsey, 80, most recently of Wallingford, Pa., and formerly of Brewster passed away Friday, April 15, 2005, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Middletown, Pa.

She was born in Oneonta on July 29, 1924, the youngest daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Kearney) Yager.

She married Charles H. Wilsey in 1944, and he died in 1987. Viola and Charles graduated from Oneonta High School before their marriage in 1944.

Throughout their marriage, Viola and Charles often relocated while in the service and during their working life. After retirement, she and her husband spent their time traveling and visited friends and family. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf as well as being a longtime volunteer at the Eagle Eye Thrift Shop in Brewster.

After her husband’s death, she often traveled to the aid of her family members with her devoted companion, Richard Gonseth of Tarrytown.

She is survived by her children, Charles R. Wilsey, Terrance M. Wilsey and Kathy Ann McKenna; her grandchildren, David Wilsey, Chadford Wilsey, Matthew McKenna and Kelly McKenna; six stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her older siblings, Flora, Beatrice, Katherine and Melvin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Steven Moore, associate pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Frank W. Degner

ONEONTA — Frank W. Degner, 75, of Oneonta, who passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown, is survived by one sister, Mary Alcorn and her friend, Nick Stilson, of Otego.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Thelma Dalrymple

SIDNEY — Thelma C. Dalrymple, 85, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Aug. 23, 1919, the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Slawson) Charles.

She was a lifelong resident of Sidney. She graduated from Sidney Central School in 1938 and married Harold "Spic" Dalrymple on May 2, 1941.

Thelma worked for and retired from the First National Bank in Sidney and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Sidney.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, "Spic," of 51 years; and her sisters, Wauneita Lord and Virginia Alger.

She leaves behind two daughters, Lynette and her husband, Anthony "Guff" Cumo, of San Diego, Calif., and Barbara and her husband, Dana Watt, of Mechanicville; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, James and Kris, Gary and Celeste, Todd and Heidi Cumo of San Diego, Jason, Michael, Stephanie, Josiah, Jonathan, Michelle and Stephen Watt of Mechanicville; five great-grandchildren, Candice, Nathan, Jamie, Todd Jr. and Paige Cumo; and 12 nieces and nephews and their families.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Addison A. Noone

AFTON — Addison Ann Noone, daughter of Erin and Ronal (Sherman) Noone of Afton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

She is also survived by her stepbrother, Brody Noone, Canisteo; stepsister, Emily Noone, Canisteo; grandparents, Ronald and Cynthia Sherman, Afton, Charles Noone, Westfield, Pa., and Constance Noone, Tonawanda; great-grandparents, William and Virginia Graham, Kirkwood, Marian Sherman, Afton, and Lois Marion Clifton, Niagara Falls; aunts and uncles, Ashley Sherman, Afton, Ellen Noone, Wilson, Doug and Krista Howland, Lockport, and John Caffarella, Rock Hill, S.C.; cousins, Hunter and Holden Howland, Lockport.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Afton.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Robert H. Barnes

DOWNSVILLE — Robert H. Barnes, 85, of Downsville passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home.

Robert was born April 20, 1919, in Colchester, the son of Orsa J. and Ella J. (O’Connor) Barnes.

He was educated at the Downsville Central School. He was a lifelong resident of Downsville.

Robert was married to Cora Oliver on April 22, 1938, in Arkville. She predeceased him April 12, 1995.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union in his early years, and he was proud of the time he spent and the work he did with the Civilian Conservation Corps. In the late 1940s, he started an LP Gas Business in Downsville and made that his life’s work.

Robert is survived by four sons, Francis R. and wife Sharon of Downsville, John W. of Anchorage, Alaska, Doug F. of Downsville and J. Larry and wife Jayne of Corbett. One son, Ronald C., predeceased him. Three daughters, Carol and husband Donald Watson of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda and husband Denny Bruno of Margaretville and Betsy and husband Arden Stickle of Downsville; three brothers, Warren (Bud) Barnes of Walton, William Barnes of Downsville and Nelson Barnes of Bryson City, N.C.; and a sister, Joan Luscomb of Shinhopple, also survive.

He was also predeceased by three brothers, Leo, George and Jack; and five sisters, Marjorie Cox, Virginia Brown, Jean Homovich, June Aikens and Dorothy Barnes.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, when the family will be in attendance at the Knorr Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Knorr Funeral Home, Tannery Road, Downsville.

Interment will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.

Kenneth W. Cady

HARTWICK — Kenneth W. Cady, 85, of Hartwick died Monday night, April 18, 2005, at Otsego Manor.

Ken was born March 25, 1920, in the town of Burlington, a son of William and Mary (Eaton) Cady.

He married Margaret Schneider on Sept. 9, 1950, at St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

He graduated from Edmeston High School with the class of 1938 and was employed for several years at a local feed store in Edmeston. In the early 1950s Ken began his career as an X-ray technician under Dr. Otto Sahler at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He retired in 1982.

Ken enjoyed cooking, baking and working in his vegetable garden. He will be especially remembered for the raspberries he raised and delivered to his friends and family. He was a member of the Christian faith.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (Peg) Cady of Hartwick; one sister-in-law, Doris Cady of New Berlin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Roger G. Yoder, pastor of the Hartwick United Methodist Church, officiating. A service of committal and burial will follow in the Hartwick Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday, when Ken’s family will be in attendance.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Vincent Heilker

HARPURSVILLE — Vincent Heilker, 80, died Monday evening, April 18, 2005, at home, in the company of loved ones.

A fine musician, skillful composer and arranger, inspiring teacher, devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, he taught his children much about passion, dedication, curiosity, patience, tolerance and forgiveness.

He touched everyone he met with his friendship, his love of life, his sense of humor and his humility.

Robert A. Croft

HARTWICK — Mr. Robert A. Croft, 89, of Hartwick passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home.

He was born May 17, 1915, in Utica, the son of Merle R. and Mabel (Allen) Croft.

He married Geraldine Jennie Baxter on Aug. 28, 1937, in Walton.

Robert grew up in Utica, where he attended school, and in the mid-1930s served for four years in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Then he went to work for Savage Arms in Utica, where he tested machine guns for the war effort.

In 1957, he and his wife and family moved to Hartwick, where they purchased an old schoolhouse on Scotch Hill where they raised a happy family.

For more than 20 years, Robert was employed as a Union Carpenter for the former Utica Local No. 120, now No. 747. Following his retirement, he continued to work locally for various contractors.

He especially enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and golf. He had a special love for his dogs and cat. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include four sons, John A. and his wife, Soni Croft, of Hartwick, Rudolph R. and his wife, Barbara Croft, of Tennessee, James M. Croft of Hartwick, Robert J. and his wife, Tammy, of Hartwick; a special friend, Paul Montanya of Bloomville; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, on April 12, 1990; twin brother, Merle; three sisters, Hilda, Muriel and Margaret; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Croft.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick, with the Rev. Laverne Saxer, pastor of the Hartwick Christian Church, officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

John M. Bridge

SUMMIT — John Michael Bridge, 38, formerly of Willsboro, died of a heart attack at his home in Summit on Tuesday, April 19, 2005.

Mike, as he was known, was born at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla., on July 23, 1966.

For a number of years, he had lived in Summit and worked as a welder for Jett Industries.

He was an Army veteran from the 101st Airborne Division, where he received an Army Service Ribbon, Marksman Badge, M16 Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, a Hand Grenade Badge and an honorable discharge from Ft. Campbell, Ky., in 1987.

He was also an avid motorcyclist, owning and riding his Harley every chance he could.

He is survived by his father, John Bridge, and his companion, June Anderson of Willsboro; his mother, Brenda Monigan of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two brothers and their wives, Jeffrey and Sandi Bridge of Ladson, S.C., and Patrick and Amy Malone of Goose Creek, S.C.; two children, aunts and uncles, Linda and Vaughn Jaquish, Susie and Peter Jollie, Chester and Rawee Bridge and Patricia Bridge; as well as two nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins.

Calling hours for Mike will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening, April 22, 2005, at the Huestis Funeral Home, Willsboro.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at St. Philip’s Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Willsboro Fire Company and Rescue Squad.
