Frances M. Snyder

PLAINFIELD — Frances M. Snyder, 84, of Plainfield died Friday, May 6, 2005, at St. Lukes Hospital.

She was born March 18, 1921, in Herkimer, the daughter of Delmer and Agnes (Kohl) Nutt.

She married George Lewis Snyder on Aug. 22, 1937. He predeceased her Dec. 4, 1981.

Frances was the proud mother of seven children. She loved to be surrounded by her family. Before her eyes failed her she would enjoy knitting and reading. However, she was still able to fulfill her passion in her flower garden with the aid of her family.

Frances is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy and Neale McClintock, Richard and Charlotte Snyder, Robert and Sandra Snyder, George and Carol Snyder, Nadine and Richard Lawson, Doreen and Leon Jakubowski, and Ronald and Irene Snyder; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren, and her self-adopted granddaughter and her son. A special friend and companion, her dog Lucky, will also miss her.

Funeral services will be at noon Monday, May 9, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. Mark Thall officiating.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Unadilla Forks Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in memory of Frances to the Leonardsville Fire Department.

Funeral arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston Funeral Home, Edmeston.

John Earl Casey
COOPERSTOWN — John Earl Casey, 78, of Cooperstown passed away after a long illness Saturday evening, May 7, 2005, at Otsego Manor. Born July 19, 1926, in Albany, John was the son of the late Dr. George Morris Casey and Emily (Merwin) Casey, formerly of Hudson Falls.A graduate of Hudson Falls High School, class of 1944, John enrolled at Yale University but then enlisted in the United States Army. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.Upon his honorable discharge in July 1946, he returned to Yale University and graduated with the class of 1950. He then attended Cornell University Law School and graduated with the class of 1953.John first practiced law in Binghamton, which is where he met and married his wife, Jane Ann Feeck, on April 26, 1958. That same year John and Jane Ann moved to Cooperstown where he practiced law for many years.He was a past member of the Broome County Bar Association, the Otsego County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association, and was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar.John also had served as a president of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and as a village of Cooperstown justice and was a past member of the Otsego County Republican Committee.For 48 years he served as a member of the Cooperstown Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1, and was also a Third Degree Knight in the former Leatherstocking Council No. 1879, Knights of Columbus in Cooperstown, and a life member of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown.John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jane Ann Casey of Cooperstown; a son, George, daughter-in-law, Dorothea, and a grandson, Michael, of Greenwich; a daughter, Ann, partner, Dana Wagemaker, and grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Andrew and Catharine, of Niskayuna; and several cousins.A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Roman Catholic Church, Elm Street, Cooperstown, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, presiding. A Firefighter Memorial Service will be conducted by members of the Cooperstown Fire Department as part of the service at the church.Immediately after services at church, all attending are invited to join with John’s family for a time of refreshment and fellowship at Templeton Hall, located at the corner of Church and Pioneer streets in Cooperstown.John will eventually be laid to rest in the Columbarium Wall in the church yard at Christ Church, Cooperstown. The family will receive friends in their home at 3 Elm St., Cooperstown, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. both Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts be made to a charity of one’s choice.Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Ivan Hugh Pearson
ONEONTA — Ivan Hugh "Ike" Pearson, 78, of Oneonta went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 6, 2005, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford, where he has resided since 2002.He was born on Franklin Mountain in Oneonta at his family’s old farmhouse, the son of Carl Douglas and Mary Alice (Dye) Pearson.He graduated from Oneonta High School with the class of 1945.Ivan served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he married Anna Eleanor Sorensen on March 8, 1947, in Oneonta. Together they shared 58 years of marriage.Ivan worked for Sears of Oneonta, Spaulding’s Bakery in Oneonta and Binghamton as well as Homer Folks Hospital as a maintenance worker. In 1958, Ivan worked as a lathe and punch press operator and also a maintenance worker for Bendix-Scintilla, now Amphenol, of Sidney until his retirement in 1991. He never lost a day of work.Ivan was a lover of the simple life, enjoying hunting, fishing, listening to country music, dancing and playing the mouth organ (harmonica) and guitar.He loved spending time with his family and friends, laughing, chewing tobacco and drinking soda.He was a member of the Unadilla Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta and also a member of the Mountain View Social Club in Oneonta.Ivan is survived by his loving wife, Anna E. Pearson of Oneonta; his three children and their spouses, Sherry and Gary Earl of Unadilla, Ivan and Lillian Pearson of Westmoreland and William and Anna Pearson of Oneonta; his four grandchildren, Robert James Yager and his wife, Rebekah, of Tennessee, Scott C. Pearson of Oneonta and Heather A. Bree Pearson and Nicole K. Pearson, both of New Jersey; his two great-grandchildren, Andrew David Yager and Alexander Scott Yager of Tennessee; his two sisters and their spouses, Betty Jean and Gerald Baker of Oneonta and Rosalie Ann and Winfield James of Oneonta; as well as several nieces and nephews.There will be no calling hours.A service to celebrate the life of Ivan "Ike" Pearson will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Aldens S. Asbornsen officiating. A luncheon will be provided after the service. Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Harold E. Loder
COBLESKILL — Harold E. Loder, 99, formerly of Richmondville, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his residence.He was born Jan. 11, 1906, in Fogo, Newfoundland, Canada, the son of James H. and Fredericka (Layman) Loder.Mr. Loder was an electrician for ConEdison in New York City before moving to Richmondville in 1940.He and his wife operated the Loder Farms for many years before retiring and moving to Jensen Beach, Fla., where they resided for 20 years until last week when they moved to Cobleskill.Mr. Loder was the director for the former Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (now the Farm Service Agency) in Cobleskill.He was a Free and Accepted Mason for more than 50 years, served as director on the board for the Bank of Richmondville, and was a council member for the Beards Hollow Society and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mr. Loder was a justice of the peace for Richmondville. Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Helen J. (Kral) Loder, who he married Dec. 8, 1928; and daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Raymond Knapik of Ballston Spa; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold J. and Marie Loder of Richmondville; grandchildren, Thomas Knapik of San Diego, Calif., Nancy Knapik of Saratoga Springs, Linda Lamson (Ted) of Pleasanton, Calif., James Loder (Tammy) of Richmondville, Amy Sweezy (Chris) of Medford, Andrew Loder (Marci) of Bellingham, Wash., Harold J. Loder Jr. (Tiffany) of Richmondville, Matthew Loder (Julie) of Cobleskill and Alda Chamberlain (Bruce) of Richmondville; great-grandchildren, Eliza and Zachary Lamson of Pleasanton, Calif., Courtney and Brett Loder of Richmondville, Taylor, Connor, Kyle, and Claire Sweezy of Medford, Madeline and Sebastian Loder of Bellingham, Wash., Morgan, Keenan and Brennan Loder of Richmondville and Hannah and Olivia Loder of Cobleskill.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Main Street, Richmondville, with the Rev. Charlotte Lambert
UNADILLA — Charlotte A. Lambert, formerly of Unadilla and most recently of Oxford, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 6, 2005, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.Mrs. Lambert was born May 5, 1927, in Meridale, the daughter of John and Lena (Gransbury) McDonald.She married Leon R. Lambert on Aug. 11, 1948. He predeceased her Jan. 23, 1968.She lived most of her life in the Unadilla area as a housewife, enjoying the outdoors with long walks and doing many craft projects such as knitting and crocheting. She was known for her heart of gold, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.She is survived by her daughters, Diana Ireland of Bainbridge, Elizabeth Palmer and her husband, Arthur, of Oneonta, Patricia Riggs and her husband, Mark, of Wells Bridge, Jeanette Van Steenburg and her husband, Wayne, of Oneonta, and Barbara Yager and her husband, James, of Bainbridge; her sons, Robert Lambert of New Mexico, David Lambert and his wife, Robin, of Stamford, and Peter Lambert and his wife, Chom, of Raleigh, N.C.; her sisters, Istta Foree of Mount Upton, Rhodena Marrow of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Elnora O’Dell of Gloversville; her son-in-law, Henry Whitehill of South New Berlin; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Helen T. Bilinski
UNADILLA — Helen T. Bilinski, 88, of Unadilla passed away Friday afternoon, May 6, 2005, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.She was born June 5, 1916, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Koniarz) Sudul.Helen married Peter A. Bilinski on July 2, 1939, in Brooklyn. He passed away in 1989.Helen moved to Unadilla in 1997 from Ridge to be with her daughter, Dorothy Rudolph, and family.During her working years, she was a quality control supervisor for Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co. in Brooklyn for 26 years.She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, ceramics, cleaning and singing in her church choir at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Ridge as pastimes. When she was able, Helen attended Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, and with her daughter at Sacred Heart Church in Sidney.Helen is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Diane Bilinski of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Richard Rudolph of Unadilla; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Geneviene Sudul of Franklin Square and John and Geraldine Sudul of Staten Island. She is also survived by four grandchildren, John, Kristina and Kathryn Rudolph, all of Unadilla and David Bilinski of Orlando, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla (directly off Exit 10 of I-88), from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 9, 2005, when the family will be present at the funeral home.Prayers will be offered 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the funeral home, before a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Sidney. The Rev. Brown Jr., 81, who died Jan. 18, 2005, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown.

Laura M. Cross

COOPERSTOWN — A graveside service of committal and burial for Laura M. Cross, 89, who died Jan. 17, 2005, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, in the Unadilla Forks Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Tulip, pastor of the Federated Church in West Winfield, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Philip L. Kiefer

SIDNEY — Philip L. Kiefer, 93, a resident at the Countryside Care facility, Delhi, and formerly of Sidney passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 6, 2005, in Delhi.

He was born Nov. 25, 1911, in South Montrose, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Elfrida Everett Kiefer.

On June 17, 1939, he married Christina Merring in Coventry. She predeceased him March 9, 1973.

Philip was a retired employee of the Keith Clark Corporation, Sidney, with more than 19 years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II.

Mr. Kiefer was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Sidney.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Captolia Conpropst of Sidney; his daughter-in-law, Diane Olds of Walton; granddaughter, Tammy McCall of Walton; and a grandson, Sean Kiefer of Walton.

A son, Harold L. Kiefer; a brother, Clarence Kiefer; and a sister, Lila Smith, predeceased Philip.

At the families request, there will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Randy Eliason, pastor of his church, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Sidney Assembly of God Church, Plankenhorn Road, Sidney, NY 13838.

Arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Doris E. Schuman

ROXBURY — Doris E. Schuman, 77, of Roxbury died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.

She was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Roxbury, the daughter of Ernest Schuman and Edith Shuman.

Doris graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1944. She was a lifelong area resident. She was employed at Mountainside Farms as a lab technician in Roxbury from graduation to 1988, when she retired.

In her earlier years, Doris was an active bowler and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Norma Schuman; two nephews, Scott and Sheldon Schuman; two nieces, Sherry Schuman and Susan Schuman Reising; several cousins in Roxbury; and dear friend, Louise Mudge, Roxbury.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Harold and Donald Schuman.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.

Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Raymond S. Brown

COOPERSTOWN — A graveside service of committal and burial with military honors for Raymond S. Brown Jr., 81, who died Jan. 18, 2005, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Sgt. Walter P. Margaret L. Zotto

HOMER — Memorial services for Margaret L. Aylesworth Bolton Zotto, 77, of 1 Stanford Drive, Homer, and formerly of Edmeston and Cooperstown, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at the Edmeston Baptist Church.

Mrs. Zotto passed away at her residence in Homer on Feb. 11, 2005.

Thomas G. Jensen

FREEVILLE — Thomas Gordon Jensen, 72, of Freeville, who died Friday, May 6, 2005, is survived by his sister-in-law, Irmgard Dehning of Northwoods in Cortland.

Patricia A. Wrin

CHERRY VALLEY — Ms. Patricia Wrin, 87, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.

She was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Michael and Helen (McCarthy) Wrin.

A lifelong area resident, she cared for her parents until their passing. Then she was a housekeeper for her uncle Patrick McCarthy until his passing.

She was a member of St. Thomas Church and was the organist there for many years.

She is survived by several cousins and their families.

A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the service at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, in St. Thomas Church, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. John Roos officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Patricia’s memory may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, Cherry Valley.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Walter L. Feltman

OTEGO — Walter Linn Feltman, 62, of Otego passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 7, 1942, son of the late Harry Linn Feltman and Frances Hymers Keeler in Oneonta.

Walt graduated from Franklin Central School in 1960 and was employed by Amphenol Corp. in Sidney for 39 years. He also worked for Pickett Building Supplies in Oneonta for five years before his illness. He was a skilled carpenter and spent two years building his own home.

At home, he loved to be outdoors riding his John Deere tractor, working in the yard and planting flowers. Walt also loved to snowmobile and play golf.

Walter married Karen Hogan in January 1979 in Afton.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen Feltman, Otego; son and daughter-in-law, William and Heidi Feltman, South Kortright; daughter, Karen Sue Feltman, Unadilla; father-in-law, Stanton Hogan, Walton; stepmother, Francine Feltman, Sidney; sisters, Patricia and Fred Snyder, Gloversville, and Janice and Mike Parsons, Sacramento, Calif.; stepbrother, Michael Feltman, Fort Wayne, Ind.; stepchildren, Garry and Stephen Hendrickson, Walton, and Jacquelynn and Gary Brooks, Walton; granddaughter, Emily Ruth Feltman; stepgrandchildren, Mackenzie and Collin Hendrickson and Katelynn Brooks; special aunt, Betty Hymers Douglas, Montclair, Calif.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Osterhout of the West Davenport Baptist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
