Camillus O’Connell

HAVERSTRAW — Camillus (Commander) O’Connell of Haverstraw died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Nyack Hospital.

Camillus was born in New York on March 7, 1923, to Camillus and Mary (Cleary) O’Connell.

He was an Executive Financial Adviser for IBM in White Plains.

Camillus married Mary Grace Keane on Nov. 30, 1944, in Immaculate Conception Church, Ithaca.

He was a New City resident for 22 years, before living in Montrose.

Camillus was a graduate of Cornell University Midshipman School and received a B.A. from Manhattan College in engineering. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Westchester, the Ecurie Racing Club of Rockland in Blauvelt and Harpersfield Historical Society in Harpersfield.

Camillus was a Lt. Commander in the Seabees and a 15-year veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Naval Reserve, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Camillus is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Michael of New Windsor, Thomas and his wife, Mary Ann, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Brian and his wife, Nancy Fremont O’Connell, of Astoria; and daughters, Dr. Frank and Mary Meyers of Amherst, Mass., and Theresa and Chris Reesbeck of Haverstraw. He is also survived by his brother, Robert of Bloomingburg; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his stepmother, Ann Burke O’Connell; his sister, Eileen Drake; daughter, Joanne; son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Linda; and son-in-law, Andre D’Ambroso.

Visiting at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Nyack.

Cremation will be private.

Albert J. Postiglion

CHERRY VALLEY — Funeral and committal services for Mr. Albert J. Postiglion, 83, who passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Edwin J. Nelson

CHERRY VALLEY — Edwin J. Nelson, 90, of Cherry Valley passed away Feb. 19, 2005. A graveside memorial service will be held at noon Thursday, May 19, 2005, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating. Burial will follow.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Frances B. Butler

MILFORD — Graveside and committal services for Frances B. Butler, who died Feb. 5, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Milford Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Glenn A. Couse

MILFORD CENTER — Graveside and committal services for Glenn A. Couse, who died Jan. 6, 2005, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Milford Center Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Marian L. Grimm

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Graveside services for Marian L. (Butler) Grimm, 64, a native of Cooperstown who died March 21, 2005, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery, Fly Creek.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 27 Woodlawn Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

STAMFORD — Graveside services for Sonya Jean Kelley, who passed away Jan. 9, 2005, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

HOBART — Committal services for Michael A. Cole, who passed away March 25, 2005, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

Helen Staiber Hendricks and William C. Staiber

DAVENPORT — Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Immediately following the services, their family invites friends to gather with them to remember and celebrate their lives at the Davenport Fire Station in Davenport.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Beulah B. Sloan

GILBERTSVILLE — Beulah B. Sloan, 82, of Gilbertsville died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Norwich with her family at her side after a long illness.

She was born in the town of Butternuts on Dec. 10, 1922, the daughter of Alice M. and John G. Birdsall. She lived most of her life in Gilbertsville, where she graduated from Gilbertsville Central School in 1940, being the first student to graduate with a music diploma.

She married John B. Sloan in June 1940 in Gilbertsville, where they lived most of their lives and raised their children.

She was known for her unselfish, loving and caring ways, and she showed the utmost devotion to her family and friends. She loved music, books, gardening and family gatherings.

She joined the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville in 1935, where she sang in the choir and was active in the Cradle Roll and the Women’s Circle for a number of years. Beulah was a longtime member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She worked for a period of time at Scintilla in Sidney during the 1950s. She and her family moved to Orlando, Fla., in the mid 1950s, before settling for the past 40 years back in Gilbertsville, among her many friends and family.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John, a son, James Sloan, a grandson, Eric Nesbitt, and brothers, Howard Birdsall and Sumner Birdsall.

Beulah is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Bernt Hansen of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Mary Sloan and Stephen and Myra Sloan, all of Gilbertsville. She was also blessed by 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses, John and Janet Birdsall and Robert and Shirley Birdsall of Gilbertsville, Richard and Katherine Birdsall of Morris, Mildred and Stanley Wilbur of North Syracuse and Doris Manley of Norwich.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville with the Rev. Barbara Schwartz and the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the Gilbertsville Fire Department or Gilbertsville Emergency Squad in Beulah’s memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Ernest C. Westcott

FRANKLIN — Ernest C. Westcott, 79, of Franklin passed away Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the home of his granddaughter, Jennifer McNeilly.

He was born March 18, 1926, in Franklin, the son of Earl and Flora (Westcott) Pomeroy.

He married Helen Latauro on March 18, 1950. She passed away Jan. 12, 1994.

A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the Sidney Elks and a former member of the Franklin Fire Department.

For most of his working career, Ernie was a farmer and worked for several area construction companies through Local 643 of the International Labors Union, from which he retired in 1991.

He was an avid Kentucky Derby fan, card player and bowler. Ernie was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

He is survived by his children, Ernest C. Westcott Jr. and his girlfriend, Jayne Roberts, of Edmeston, Phyllis Weeden and Michael Silver of Franklin, Kathy Keable and her husband, Bill, of Oneonta, and Gary Rogers and his wife, Molly, of Villa Park, Ill.; a brother, Fred Westcott and his wife, Loretta, of Binghamton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Charles Westcott, Alva Westcott, Everett Westcott, Alice Wilber, Bessie Wheeling and Grace Worrell.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. Mr. Michael Donnell officiating.

Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice or the Franklin Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Brandon Gaines

ONEONTA — Brandon Kyle Gaines, 17, of Oneonta passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 7, 2005, in Desloge, Mo.

Brandon was a sophomore at North County High School. He had attended Unatego Junior-Senior High School.

He was an avid fan of soccer, baseball, wrestling, basketball and fishing.

He is survived by his mother, Patty Gaines (Paul) Hahn of Desloge; father, Keith Leggett and Lisa Piazzola of Oneonta; sister, Ashley Gaines of Lugoff, S.C.; grandmothers, Ellen Leggett of Columbus, S.C., and Martha Wigger of Bonne Terre; grandfathers, Larry Wigger of Bonne Terre and Robert Gaines of Lugoff, S.C.; great-grandparents, Chris and Ethel Pedersen of Sidney and Helen Manser of Bonne Terre; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Donald Leggett and Doss Manser; and great-grandfather, Harm Gaines.

A memorial service will be held for all family and friends at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Oneonta Assembly of God, 1667 county Highway 48, Back River Road, Oneonta, and will be presided over by Danny Legault. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Mark D. Hunt

DELHI — Mark D. Hunt, 49, formerly of Delhi, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 11, 2005, at his home in Carmi, Ill., after a brief illness.

The son of Clayton D. and Leona V. (Clark) Hunt, he was born Aug. 25, 1955, in Poitiers, France. He grew up in Delhi, where he was a member of the United Ministry, active in Boy Scouts, graduated from Delaware Academy (1975) and SUNY Delhi (1977), and married Pixie M. Jacquay on Nov. 18, 1995, in Albany.

Mark later lived in the Clifton Park area and worked at G.E. in Schenectady and Robotics in Saratoga. He moved to Carmi, Ill., three years ago where he was a shift leader at Wal-Mart, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend to many.

Surviving are his wife of almost 10 years, Pixie M. Hunt; two sons, Joseph and Joshua Hunt of Carmi, Ill.; his mother, Leona Hunt of Delhi; his twin brother, Clark Hunt of Ballston Lake; a sister, Cheryl Hunt of Delhi; his father-in-law, Charles Jacquay, and sister-in-law, Lisa Gross, both of Carmi, Ill.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Clayton Hunt (1994).

Friends are invited to call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the United Ministry of Delhi, the Rev. Lisa Heckman officiating, with burial at Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Memorial contributions to United Ministry of Delhi or American Cancer Society will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Louise Wilson

ENDICOTT — Louise Wilson, 95, of Endicott passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2005, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

She was predeceased by her husband, George (Ed) Wilson in 1955.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Wilson, Oneonta; her grandchildren, Kim and husband David Perazone, Nels and Deirdre Sloth, the Rev. Eric Sloth, and Kristin Sloth; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and especially her nephew, Charles Adams, Johnson City. She is also survived by her ex-son-in-law and his wife, Sven and Ingrid Sloth, Oneonta.

She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Endicott and organized and managed Project Concern for more than 25 years at the church. She also volunteered with many charities, including R.S.V.P. She was a member of the Carnation Rebekah Lodge No. 345 for 68 years, serving as chaplain for many years.

Funeral and interment services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott, with the Rev. Eric Sloth, grandson of Louise, officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell, at the convenience of the family.
