Patricia E. Decker

OTEGO — Patricia E. Decker, 64, of Otego, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2005, at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1940, in Putney, Vt., the daughter of Clarence and Frances (Moore) Ainsworth.

She married Leon H. Decker on Feb. 23, 1957, in Oneonta.

Before her retirement, she worked eight years in the office for the Prudential Insurance Company in Oneonta. Before that she worked for Minuteman Optical and Brillen Optical. In her younger years, she worked in the Oneonta High School cafeteria.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oneonta. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and puzzle solving.

She is survived by her husband, Leon H. Decker of Otego; her children, Russell (Patti) Decker of Wells Bridge, Debra Chipman of Wexford, Pa., and David Decker of Otego; three grandchildren, Amanda Chipman, Ryley Decker and Lukas Decker; two sisters, Jacqueline (Gary) Scavo of Oneonta and Gloria Brienza of Washington, D.C.; an aunt, Cleona Poole of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and one niece and a nephew.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside committal service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, in the Hillington Cemetery, Morris, with the Rev. Mr. Michael Donnell, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice or the American Lung Association, 587 Main St., Suite 109, New York Mills, NY 13417.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Orson Vandermark

BAINBRIDGE — After a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, Orson Vandermark passed away Sunday, May 15, 2005, at his home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Carolyn Vandermark; his adoring daughters, Michelle Vandermark and her significant other, Douglas Renwick of Treadwell, Paula Vandermark and her fiancé, Roger McNeilly of Franklin, Becky Vandermark and her fiancée, Bobbie Griswold of Bainbridge, Jodi Vandermark and her boyfriend, Neil Brayman of Bainbridge; his foster son Gary Thomas and his wife, Mary Ellen, and his brother, William Vandermark, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Orson had two passions in his life, his family and his horses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Andrew McCall, Dakota Vandermark, Corienne McCall, Shania Vandermark, Austin McCall, Jesse Griswold, Caitlan Vandermark, Jamie Griswold and Brandon Kane, foster grandchildren Brandy, Maria, Dustin and Jerrett Thomas. He enjoyed nothing more than harnessing "Bob and Bill" and taking a little trip around the field or off to the contest. He was always free with his advice: "Put stones in your pockets and drive."

The family thanks good friends Debbie and Fred Eaton for their support.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. The family will be in attendance. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chenango County Hospice 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815 .

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel Sidney.

Cheryl Ann Gopel

SIDNEY CENTER — A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Sacred Heath Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, for Cheryl Ann Gopel of Sidney Center, who passed away Feb. 25, 2005, in Binghamton.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center.

Arrangements are by C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Doris R. Wilbur

SIDNEY — Committal services for Doris Rumsey "Doddie" Wilbur will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in Halsey Valley Cemetery in Lockwood. She died March 14, 2005.

Arrangements are by the C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

William G. Rockefeller

DELHI — William G. "Bill" Rockefeller, 79, of Elk Creek, Delhi (town of Meredith), passed away Monday night, May 16, 2005, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

The son of Guy C. and Delle (McPherson) Rockefeller, he was born Dec. 10, 1925, on Bramley Mountain, Bovina, received his education at Delaware Academy and married Marjorie R. Thomas Jan. 12, 1952, in Davenport.

A lifelong area resident, Bill purchased his present home on Elk Creek in 1957, where he operated a dairy farm until retirement in 1989. For the past 30 years he and "Marj" had been actively engaged in breeding and raising Belgian draft horses and could often be seen showing them at the Delaware County Fair and other parades.

He was an active member and director of Eastern Regional Draft Horse Club and the New York State and Hudson Valley Draft Horse Clubs. He also served as director of Agway and Farmers Home Administration and on the town of Meredith Assessment Review Board.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Rockefeller; his three children, William G. Rockefeller Jr. of Walton, Margaret "Peggy" and her husband, Homi, Modi of Mechanicsville, Va., and Clayton Thomas Rockefeller of Delhi; two grandchildren, Ryan and Elizabeth; two sisters, Louise Kinsey of Roanoke, Va., and Helen Perry of Bloomville; three brothers, Howard (Martha) Rockefeller of Delhi and Guy and Harry (Joyce) Rockefeller of Bloomville; his mother-in-law, Florence Thomas of Delhi; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Louis) Miele of Bovina Center; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Almirion and Glenn Rockefeller.

Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19, when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where funeral services be conducted by the Rev. Bert More at 1 p.m. Friday, with burial following in the Bovina Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Catskill Area Hospice will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Dominica "Mimi" Vagliardo

ONEONTA — Dominica "Mimi" Vagliardo, 83, of Oneonta was surrounded by loving family and friends as she entered eternal rest Monday, May 16, 2005, after a long and courageous fight with cancer.

The daughter of Guiseppe and Catarina (Pedone) Vaccaro, she was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Stamford, where the family owned and operated the Stamford Grill. She was salutatorian of the class of 1940 at Stamford Central School. After her father’s death, she and her mother continued to operate the Stamford Grill

On June 1, 1946, she married James C. Vagliardo and moved to Oneonta. Mimi was employed by J.C. Penney’s in Oneonta for 17 years, retiring in October 1984.

An excellent cook and baker, Mimi was always happy when her family and friends were gathered around her kitchen table. She also enjoyed having tea and good conversation with her "Eighties Club." In addition, Mimi enjoyed sewing, crafting, reading and collecting cookbooks.

Mimi is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Vagliardo; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Debrah Vagliardo of Oneonta; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Sherry Vagliardo of Oneonta; her daughter, Concetta Vagliardo of Albany; her son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Karen Vagliardo of Oneonta; her five grandsons, William, Vincent, Jason, Jared, and Shane Vagliardo, all of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John Vaccaro of Louisville, Ky.; and a niece, Charlene Vagliardo of Oneonta.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Steven Moore, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

The family has requested that donations be made in Mimi’s name to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Donald E. Currie

GOODYEAR LAKE — Donald E. Currie, 68, passed away unexpectedly at home Monday, May 16, 2005.

He was born May 14, 1937, in West Davenport, the son of G. Vernon and Anna E. (Waters) Currie.

Don was a graduate of Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport.

He was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1955 to 1959.

Don married Sandra Briscoe on Feb. 16, 1962, in West Davenport.

He retired from Amphenol in Sidney after working there for 40 years.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. He enjoyed woodworking and was known as Mr. Fix-It Man. His family was very important, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Currie of Goodyear Lake; his children, Roberta and her husband, Thomas, Austin of Walton, Kenneth W. and his wife, Connie, Beames of Afton, and Teresa Currie and her friend, Maggie Finn, of Albany; grandchildren, Erin and Bethany Austin of Walton, Trevor and Chelsea Beames of Afton, and Chloe and Jane VonLinden of Albany; his brother, Robert and his wife, Meta, Currie of Cooperstown Junction; and two nephews, Steven Currie of Oneonta and Jeffrey Currie of Cooperstown Junction.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta. The family will not be in attendance.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego with the Rev. Kenneth Baldwin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, New York State, Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Carl L. Sobers

ONEONTA — Carl L. Sobers, 77, passed away peacefully at home Monday, May 16, 2005.

He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Oneonta, the son of James E. and Fannie M. (Shaffer) Sobers.

Carl married Joanne Chilletti in Davenport.

Carl was a lifelong area resident. He worked at the main branch of Wilber National Bank as a courier for many years. Carl was a past member of the American Legion and the Oneonta Eagles Club.

Carl is survived by four sons, Martin and Phillip of Alaska, Nicholas of Oneonta and Thomas of Florida; two grandchildren, Heather Thompson and Nicholas D. Sobers of Oneonta; a brother, John of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl was predeceased by his loving wife, Joanne, and several brothers and sisters.

At Carl’s request, there will be no local services. Carl’s cremains will be scattered at sea along with his wife and a family pet at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be sent in loving memory of Carl to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive — Dept. FH, Oneonta, NY 13820-1319.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Roberta K. Scoville

MIDDLEBURGH — Roberta K. Scoville, 83, of 125 M.T. Path died Monday, May 16, 2005, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a brief illness.

Mrs. Scoville was born March 29, 1922, in Conesville, a daughter of the late John and Alta Wilber Knox. She worked for many years at the Department of Civil Service, retiring from the health-insurance section as senior clerk. She later worked part-time for the New York State Department of State in Albany. Mrs. Scoville was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Middleburgh, the American Legion Auxiliary, a past matron of the Eastern Star, Onistagrawa Middleburgh chapter, and a member of the Middleburgh Golden Age Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne (Jim) Macklin of Voorheesville; sons, John (Lynn) Scoville of Cobleskill and Paul (Betty) Scoville of Beltsville, Md.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Allien Regular of Delhi; and brother, Ralph Knox of Lakewood, N.J.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Scoville, in 1977.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Main Street, Middleburgh. The Rev. Peter J. DeBartolo will officiate.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 19, at the Palmer & Shaylor Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.

Burial will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery.

Frances T. Polley

MARYLAND — The committal service for Frances Polley, 95, who passed away March 1, 2005, will be at 1 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2005, in the Schenevus Cemetery, with the Rev. William Robert Thompson officiating.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Prudence Scheiner

RICHMONDVILLE — The committal service for Prudence Scheiner, 74, who passed away Dec. 31, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester with the Rev. Kenneth Sisson officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Mary Louise Kehr

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — Mary Louise Kehr of Mallard Point, Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Hendersonville, N.C., died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, of heart failure.

Mary Louise was born in Laquin, Pa., on Sept. 14, 1911, the second daughter of Dr. Charles Melvin Coon and Nellie Brigham Coon. Because her mother was ill with tuberculosis at the time of her birth, Mary Lou was removed from the home when she was 2 weeks old to be raised by another family.

Mary Louise graduated from Elmira College in Elmira in 1935 with a bachelor’s degree and from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., with a master’s degree. She moved to Unadilla, where she taught English, French and Latin from 1934 to 1943.

She married a fellow teacher, Dr. August E. Kehr, in 1943. They lived in Hudson, Ithaca, Baton Rouge, La., Ames, N.C., and Silver Spring, Md., before retiring to Hendersonville in 1979. In 2001, they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to be near family.

Survivors include their daughter, Janet Flick and her husband, Charles, of Cedar Falls; two grandsons, Robert Flick of Shen Zhen, China, and William Flick of Huxley, Iowa; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Flick of Huxley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother; her husband, August, in 2001; and her sister, Genevieve Coon, in 2002.

Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. June 4, 2005, in the Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla, under the direction of the Westcott Funeral Home.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made to the Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, PO Box 421, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
