Ruth G. Kilmer

CLERMONT, FLA. — Ruth Graves Kilmer, 67, of Clermont, Fla., passed away Friday, May 13, 2005.

She was born July 26, 1937, in Brooklyn, daughter of George and Ruth Graves. Ruth grew up in Westford and graduated from Schenevus High School and attended Oneonta State.

Ruth married Matthew Kilmer on Sept. 20, 1958, in Worcester.

She was known for her unselfish, loving and caring ways. She showed the utmost devotion to her family, friends and the church. She cheered loudly and lived life to its fullest. Her friends nicknamed her "Giggles" for the laughter and joy she so often brought to others around her. She enjoyed people, church, chorus, pets, reading and cheering on family and friends through sports and life.

She held various administrative assistant jobs, including working for Dr. D. James Kennedy of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale.

Mrs. Kilmer is survived by her husband, Matthew; her brother, George; her sister, Norma; her five children, daughters, Chris Piner (Dennis), Laurie Rausch (Don), Dorrie; sons, Greg (Sherida Hunter), Gary (Meredith); and nine grandchildren, Jamie, Gary, Kyle, Stealth, IvyStuart, Paige, Joshua, Jacob and Kelly.

Memorial services were Tuesday in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Services are by Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd., Gotha, FL 34734.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ethel Hillis

STAMFORD — Ethel Hillis, 95, formerly of Stamford, died peacefully in her sleep Feb. 5, 2005, at the Ridgefield Healthcare Center in Richfield Minn.

Born March 9, 1909, in Jefferson to Harold and Maude Delong, Ethel graduated from Hobart High School in 1927.

She married Roy Hillis on March 22, 1933, in Hobart. They lived in Stamford where they operated a dairy farm and Ethel worked at the New York Telephone Company for many years. She was member of the Stamford United Methodist Church.

Ethel is survived by her son Lee (Sandra) of Burnsville, Minn. Ethel is also survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Stamford United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow in Stamford Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Stamford United Methodist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William H. Tari.

Hedwig J. Smith

BOVINA — Friends are invited to attend graveside services for Hedwig J. "Heddy" Smith, 93, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Bovina Cemetery. The Rev. Jason Catania will officiate. A reception will follow at the Bovina Fire Department.

A longtime Bovina resident and widow of Earl J. Smith, she passed away Dec. 19, 2004.

Memorial contributions to Bovina Emergency Squad will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Arlene M. Utter

HAMDEN — Friends are invited to attend graveside services for Arlene M. Utter, 79, at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, in the Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. The Rev. Bert More will officiate.

A longtime Hamden resident, retired ward clerk at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, and widow of Richard J. Utter, she passed away Jan. 28, 2005.

Memorial contributions to Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY 13856, will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

George R. Williams

WESTFORD — The committal service for George R. "Bud" Williams, 80, who passed away Dec. 23, 2004, will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2005, in the Westford Cemetery with the Rev. Rose Bellen officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Eunice I. Francis

GRAND GORGE — Graveside services for Eunice I. Francis, who died March 5, 2005, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, by the Rev. Richard Dykstra in Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.

Mary Elizabeth Johnson

DAVENPORT CENTER — Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 64, of Davenport Center passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Oneonta, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Phoebe (McLean) Mattice.

Mary graduated from Oneonta High School and then the State University College of Oneonta. She was an elementary teacher at Charlotte Valley Central School for more than 30 years, retiring in 1996. She enjoyed gardening and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.

Mary is survived by her mother, Phoebe Mattice of Oneonta; her two children, Rodney Johnson and his companion, Rhonda Kelley, of East Worcester and Jodie Heins and her husband, Edward, of Shelton, Conn.; five grandchildren, Rebbecca Johnson of Oneonta, Calynne and Alysia Johnson of East Worcester and Samantha and Scott Heins of Shelton, Conn.; one brother, Kenneth K. Mattice and his wife, Marian, of West Oneonta; one sister, Shirley Moore and her husband, Frank, of Edgewood, Md.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Kenneth W. Mattice; one brother, Frank Mattice; and one sister, Nancy Goulet.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Charlotte Valley Central School, Reading Is Fundamental program, State Highway 23, Davenport, NY 13750, in loving memory of Mary Elizabeth Johnson.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

George A. Weed

WORCESTER — George Aubrey Weed, 76, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born Aug. 7, 1928, at home in Baldwin, the son of the late George W. and Hanrietta (Tilford) Langabeer.

He married Annette M. Moran on June 16, 1963, in the Christ Lutheran Church, Freeport, Long Island.

George lived on Long Island for 59 years in Bellmore and Copiaque. He then moved to his present home in Worcester where he lived for almost 18 years. He worked for Nassau County Public Works for 26˝ years as a heavy-equipment operator. He also owned George’s Taxi in Merrick for a few years, owned a Medallion from Roosevelt Taxi for several years, worked in real estate as an associate for a year, then at a bank. He was a Democratic committee member involved in local politics with his mom for quite some time.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Annette M. Weed; his brothers, Charles A. Weed of North Belmore and Richard J. Weed of Breezy Point; a sister, Midge Boyer of Rantual Ill.; nieces, Chris Hoehn of Greenport, L.I., Kim and Woody Farrell of Morehead City, N.C.; a special niece, Linda J. Pross of Schenevus; a cousin Beverly (Bob) Gernhardt of Westford; and Adela Morse of Maryland.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Harry L. Weed; and a sister, Hetty Hoehn.

At George’s request, cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will be held later.

Contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Worcester Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Hubert S. Hume

EDMESTON — Committal Services for Hubert S. Hume, who died Dec. 19, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. Friday May 20, 2005, at Edmeston Union Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Noll officiating.

Arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Eunice I. Francis

GRAND GORGE — Graveside services for Eunice I. Francis, who died March 5, 2005, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating in Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.

Stephan Kowaluk

MARGARETVILLE — Stephan Kowaluk, 92, of Margaretville died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

He was born Sept. 18, 1912, in the Ukraine, where he became a farmer. When he arrived in the United States, he lived in New York City and worked in security. He moved to Mountainside in 2000.

He is survived by a son.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

There will be a funeral service and burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, in Linden Hill United Methodist Cemetery, Ridgewood.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Ann Vaughn

EAST WORCESTER — A Mass to celebrate the life of Ann Vaughn will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding officiating.

Friends and family are welcome.

She passed away March 31, 2005.

Pauline Lacijan Selan

HERKIMER — A graveside service of committal and burial for Mrs. Pauline ("Polly") Lacijan Selan, 88, who died Feb. 11, 2005, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Katherine Ryan Sullivan

COOPERSTOWN — A graveside service of committal and burial for Mrs. Katherine ("Kay") Ryan Sullivan, 79, who died Jan. 14, 2005, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Richfield Springs.

Arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Donald C. Doig

BOVINA CENTER — Graveside services for Donald Clifford Doig, 59, of Bovina Center, who died Jan. 27, 2005, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the Bovina Cemetery with John Truscott officiating.

Marion Ruparshek

COOPERSTOWN — A graveside service of committal and burial for Mrs. Marion Ruparshek, 90, of Cooperstown, who died Jan. 26, 2005, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery with the Rev. John Young officiating. The Otsego-Hartwick-Arbutus Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star will also conduct a service in memory of its departed sister.

Arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Elsie M. Mills

UNADILLA — Elsie M. Mills, 91, of Unadilla passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Davenport, the daughter of the late William and Bessie (Barnes) Hitchcock.

She was married to Kenneth G. Mills on Sept. 24, 1934, in Burnt Hills. Mr. Mills predeceased her in May 1974.

Mrs. Mills had been a resident of Unadilla since 1945 and was a retired employee of Tieco-Unadilla Corp. in Unadilla. She was a member of the Unadilla United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth J. Hill and Harold Graziano of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Thelma and Douglas Decker of Unadilla and Ruth and Gordon Liddle of Mt. Upton; her sister, Evelyn Rifenbark of Charlotteville; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla. (The funeral home is directly off Exit 10 of 1-88).

The Rev. Kip Stratton Pastor of the Unadilla United Methodist Church will officiate.

Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, when the family will be in attendance.

It is requested that memorial contributions be made to the Unadilla United Methodist Church, 73 Main St., Unadilla, NY 13849 or to the Unadilla Emergency Squad, Unadilla, NY 13849 in memory of Elsie M. Mills.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc. 123 Main St. Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and Jams C. Magee, funeral directors.
