Norma L. Renwick

UNADILLA — Norma L. Renwick, 80, of Unadilla passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at her home.

She was born May 2, 1925, the daughter of the late Raymond and Bertha Hamm Jenks in New Lisbon.

Norma married Charles C. Renwick on Nov. 19, 1948, in West Edmeston. He predeceased her Feb. 18, 2004.

She is survived by Harold and Robyn Renwick, Unadilla, Carl and Sally Renwick, Otego, Olin Renwick and Tammy Barringer, Franklin, Earl and Kim Renwick, Wells Bridge, Douglas Renwick and Michelle Vandermark, Treadwell, Rodney and Kellie Renwick, Unadilla, Kay and Tom Morell, Jefferson, Pat and Gerald Terry, Franklin, Virginia and Chris Robinson, Morris, Jean Renwick, Unadilla and Debra Renwick and Kevin Rutherford, Walton; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was also predeceased by her son, Michael; and brother, Clayton Jenks.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, the family will be in attendance at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, in the funeral chapel with the Rev. George I. Goodwin officiating.

Burial will be in Hartwick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820, Unadilla Emergency Squad and A.O. Fox Daycare in Oneonta.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Robert Eisermann

ARKVILLE — Robert J. Eisermann, 81, of Arkville passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital in Margaretville.

Bob was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Mt. Kisco, the son of Emil Oscar and Myra Rae (Lockwood) Eisermann.

He was single. Bob was in the United States Army serving from Jan. 22, 1943, to Nov. 16, 1945.

He was employed at Finist SuperMarket in North White Plains. Bob lived in Arkville for the past 15 years, moving from White Plains.

He was a special member of the Beland and Steiglehner families for 55 years.

Bob is survived by one brother, Emil Eisermann of Armonk.

He was predeceased by one sister.

Calling hours will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday before the service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.

Burial will be in the Middle Patent Rural Cemetery, Bedford.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Ruth M. Finkle

ANDES — Ruth M. Finkle, 81, of Andes passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 19, 2005, at home.

Ruth was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Pepacton, the daughter of the late Floyd and Vera Thompson Ellett.

She was a graduate of Downsville Central School, class of 1942.

On Sept. 30, 1945, she married Gilbert Finkle in Arena. He died April 3, 2004.

Ruth attended Cabin Hill Presbyterian Church. She loved to knit and crochet. She was a people person who loved her family and often went to Cassie’s Kitchen for coffee to meet her friends.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Darwin and his wife, Roxanne Finkle, Dwayne and his wife, Jennifer, both of Andes, and Darrel Finkle and his friend, Carol Sue, of Owatonna, Minn.; four grandchildren, Darren, Jerrod, Krista and Brianne; four sisters, Frances Finkle, Andes, Karen Rudick, Downsville, Joyce Murphy, Downsville and Elda Parks, South Hampton, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Alvin, Leland, William and Russell Ellett; two sisters, Eva Peck and Elizabeth Young.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Andes Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan McCollister officiating.

Burial will be in Andes Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

Memorial contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to either the Andes Presbyterian Church or the Andes Emergency Squad.

Mildred Patrick

FRANKLIN — Katherine Mildred Patrick, 89, of Sidney Center passed away Friday, May 20, 2005, in Franklin.

She was born Sept. 25, 1915, daughter of the late Walton and Ada Hull Morenus in Trout Creek.

Millie married Orson Jay Patrick at the United Methodist Church in Walton in 1939. He predeceased her in April 2002.

She was employed as a solder machinist at E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when she retired. Millie was a member of the Sidney Center United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Walter St. John, Walton, Jean and Elton Sanford, Sidney Center and Joyce Terry, Sidney Center; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Barbara Morenus, Vestal; brother-in-law, Joseph Patrick, Unadilla; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Ralph Morenus; and two sisters, Ruth Morenus and Beatrice Patterson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, at the United Methodist Church of Sidney Center.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Center United Methodist Church.

Helen R. Barnhart

MESA, Ariz. — Helen R. Barnhart of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Pearl Street, Sidney, passed away Dec. 25, 2004, in Arizona.

She was born on the Sipple Farm in Bainbridge on Feb. 3, 1920, the daughter of the late William E. and Lena Phelps Reed.

Helen moved from Sidney in the fall of 2004 to be near her grandson.

She was a Rebekah and was a Past Noble Grand. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Sidney.

She is survived by her husband, Merton R. Barnhart of Mesa, Ariz.; grandson and his wife, Craig C. Kling and Andrea L. Mays of Placitas, N.M.; great-granddaughter, Madeleine Isabelle Kling. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Cheryl Ann Kling, and a sister, Olive Zoellers, predeceased Helen.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June, 1, 2005, in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, with the Rev. Patricia Robinson, her pastor, officiating.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Sidney NY 13838.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Georgianna L. Corkran

ONEONTA — Georgianna L. Corkran, 97, of Oneonta died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Robynwood Adult Home, Oneonta.

She was born July 8, 1907, in Worcester, the daughter of Levi and Marie (Atkins) Gallup.

Georgianna graduated from Worcester High School and Albany Business College.

In 1926, she moved to Oneonta, where she was employed as a secretary at the Oneonta Grocery Company, Coyle Manufacturing Company and the City of Oneonta Water Department.

She married Nathan V. Corkran on June 20, 1934, in Ypsilanti, Mich. Mr. Corkran predeceased her July 20, 1989.

During World War II she worked for the Federal Housing Authority Agency in Ypsilanti, Mich.

In 1950, she moved to Norwalk, Conn., where she was employed by the Ganung Funeral Home until her retirement in 1972. After her retirement, Georgianna lived in Oneonta and Brooksville, Fla., during the winters until 1985, when she made Oneonta her permanent residence.

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Worcester.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Georgianna was predeceased by three brothers, William Gallup in 1950, Burdette Gallup in 1984 and Dewayne Gallup in 1996.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2005, in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Worcester, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Georgianna’s name may be made to Second Baptist Church, care of the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, PO Box 373, Worcester, NY 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Lavonia B. Miller

PORTLANDVILLE — Lavonia B. Miller, 83, of Portlandville passed away peacefully in her sleep May 18, 2005, at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford.

She was born July 24, 1921, to Les and Della Mae Baker of Ecru, Miss.

Lavonia married Samuel Huffstickler during her young adult life in Mississippi and produced a son, Dan, from that union. She relocated to Rochester, where she married Robert Miller and produced another son, Mark. The young family relocated and settled in Portlandville in 1960.

Lavonia had worked through the years as a homemaker, a telephone operator, a cook at the Upstate Home for Children and a personal care aide. She had also owned and operated a popular bakery in Portlandville in the 1960s.

During her lifetime, Lavonia was a devout Christian, a devoted mother and grandmother, a caring and concerned neighbor, always looking out for her neighbors who needed her help.

She was a dedicated member of the Portlandville Methodist Church and was an active community member. She was an avid gardener and loved to go antiquing with friends and family. She also loved to sew and cook and bake for her family and friends.

Lavonia is survived by her son, Dan Huffstickler and his wife, Dolly, of Milford Center; her son, Mark Miller and his family of Cynthia Hall; and her daughter, Britney, of Portlandville; and her grandchildren, Shannon, Nate, Crystal, Amber and Sean Huffstickler. She is also survived by her sister, Meta Jones and brother-in-law, Roland, of Sarasota, Fla.; nephew, Cary Jones of San Francisco, Calif.; nieces, Jana Jones and Jill Shandley of Sarasota, Fla.; and a grandniece, Britney Shandley.

She was predeceased by an older brother, Clarence Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the Milford Center Community Church with Pastor Steve officiating.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Milford Fire Department or Milford Emergency Squad.

Harry E. Couse

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service for Harry E. Couse, 91, who died March 2, 2005, will be held at noon Friday, May 27, 2005, in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Anna H. Verity

WORCESTER — A Mass of Christian burial for Anna H. "Ann" Verity, who died May 11, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

’Libby’ Wheeler

COOPERSTOWN — "Libby" (Ann Elizabeth) Wheeler, 87, of 55 Elm St., Cooperstown, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Otsego Manor.

Libby, a lifelong resident of Cooperstown, was born Aug. 13, 1917, at what was then known as the Thanksgiving Hospital on Grove Street in Cooperstown. She was the daughter of Michael J. and Caroline (Smith) Clancy.

She graduated from Cooperstown High School as a member of the class of 1936 and subsequently graduated from the Knox School.

On Oct. 24, 1948, she married John V. Wheeler at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

Although trained and originally employed as a secretary, she later became an accountant in the accounting department of the Otsego County Department of Social Services, serving in that capacity for many years.

Libby was an active, civic-minded member of the community she loved. She served as an air-raid warden during World War II, was a member of Cooperstown’s Native Daughters and was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s.

She served as president and held other offices in the VFW Auxiliary and Criterion Club. For many years she was a volunteer with the Bassett Hospital Auxiliary, and she was also an involved member and officer of the Cooperstown Central School Alumni Association.

Despite her love for and involvement in her community, Libby’s greatest joy was derived from her family. Her family "meant the world to her." She was always interested in and took great pride in the accomplishments of her many nieces and nephews, visiting with them often. Her kind and always sincere and caring nature endeared her to her nieces and nephews, and they reveled in and returned their "Aunt G’s" or "Aunt Weggie’s" affection.

Libby is survived by John, her beloved husband of 56 years; as well as by eight nieces and nephews, Michael Clancy of Webster, Caroline Calhoun of Greene, Brian Clancy of Cooperstown, Terry Clancy of Weatherford, Texas, Martin Clancy of Danbury, Conn., Dennis Clancy of Milan, Kathleen McDermott of Burr Ridge, Ill., and Patricia Clancy of Kaneohe, Hawaii. She is also survived by a number of grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as by two sisters-in-law, Bertha Mae Clancy of Cooperstown and Ionela Clancy of Kaneohe, Hawaii.

She was predeceased by her four brothers, Joseph M. Clancy of Cooperstown, Richard F. Clancy of Syracuse, Stephen Clancy of Newark, Del., and Edward "Hawk" Clancy of Atlanta, Ga.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown with Father John Rosson and Father John Roos co-officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Pioneer Street, Cooperstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Libby’s memory to the Cooperstown Fire Department Emergency Squad, PO Box 322, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
