John W. Bennett

GOODYEAR LAKE — John Walter Bennett Jr., 75, of Goodyear Lake died Monday afternoon, May 23, 2005, at his home.

John was born March 11, 1930, at Monmouth Memorial Hospital in the city of Long Branch, N.J., a son of J. Walter Bennett Sr. and Irma Morris Bennett.

He married the former Ann Klein on Sept. 7, 1958, in Mineola, Long Island.

Raised in New Jersey, he graduated from high school and later took a correspondence course from the Chicago Engineering Institute and received an associate’s degree.

Throughout his life, he was employed as an auto mechanic for several dealerships before becoming a partner at Action Auto Care, formerly located on the corner of Oneida and Chestnut streets in Oneonta. He retired in 1991 and since then had been employed part-time in the automotive department at Wal-Mart in Oneonta.

John possessed a lifelong passion for riding and collecting motorcycles, especially Indians, and at one time worked on motorcycles for the Nassau County Police Department.

A 20-year retiree from the Army National Guard, John enlisted in July 1961 and rose through the ranks to become master sergeant E8 with Headquarters Company 3rd Brigade, 42nd Infantry Division based in Jamaica.

A former resident of Hicksville, John and his wife and their three children moved to Goodyear Lake in 1965, where they have since resided.

Raised on June 17, 1969, in Otsego Lodge No. 138, Free and Accepted Masons, Cooperstown, he was a loyal member for more than 35 years. John was also a member of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, the Susquehanna Senior Citizens of Milford and the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. Throughout the years he also served as a Cub Scout Master, a coach for Milford Little League and Pony League, and a past member of the BOCES auto mechanics advisory board and the Milford Recreation Committee.

John is survived by his loving and caring wife and soul mate of 46 years, Ann, of Goodyear Lake; a son, Jeffrey John Bennett and his wife, Patti, of Oneonta; a daughter, Patty Bennett Lina and her husband, Joey A. Lina, of Copiague, Long Island; a son, Gary Bennett of Masonville; a beautiful, loving granddaughter, Danielle Bennett of Oneonta; a grandson, Jaden Bennett Lina of Copiague; a brother, Dr. Howard B. Bennett and his family of Westbrook, Conn.; a niece, Mrs. Chuck (Cindy) Jusenius; a nephew, Daniel of Texas; and a cousin, Richard Roberts and his family of New Jersey.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmom, Doris C. Bennett; one brother, Daniel Bennett, who was killed in the Vietnam War; one nephew, James Bennett; and his mother and father-in-law, Howard and Catherine Klein.

John’s family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home at 82 Chestnut St. in Cooperstown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rodney E. Johnson, pastor of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, officiating.

A Masonic Service will be conducted Saturday as part of the funeral service at the funeral home by John’s Brothers from Otsego Lodge No. 138, F&AM, Cooperstown.

A graveside service with military honors to be accorded by the 10th Mountain Division from Fort Drum will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2005, in the Milford Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Milford Emergency Squad, PO Box 359, Milford, NY 13807-0359.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Barbara W. Henderson

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service for Barbara W. Henderson, 71, who died Dec. 26, 2004, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, with the Rev. Patricia Raube-Wilson officiating.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Dorothy Whitbeck

SCHENEVUS — The graveside memorial service for Dorothy Whitbeck, 95, who passed away Feb. 24, 2005, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the Schenevus Cemetery with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, or the C.H. Hose Company, PO Box 116, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

George T. Schwarz

DELHI — Committal services for George T. Schwarz of Delhi will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, in the Hamden Cemetery. The Rev. Miriam Hathaway, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate, and military honors will be given by Donald W. Gleason Post. No. 190, American Legion.

A World War II veteran, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, and 22-year Delhi area resident, Mr. Schwarz passed away Jan. 20, 2005, at the age of 80.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Sue C. Myers

MENDAM, N.J. — Sue C. Myers (nee O’Donnell), 86, of Mendam, N.J., formerly of Brooklyn and Burlington Flats, died Monday, May 23, 2005.

She was the wife of the late John E. Myers, a first-grade New York City detective.

She was a homemaker and antique dealer.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Gammage, Garden City, and Susan Tullgren, Katonah; a son, John "Jack" Myers, Verona, N.J.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

After a Mass in New Jersey, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, in the Burlington Flats Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of the Lake Endowment, 32 Lakeside Ave., Verona, NJ 07044, are requested.

Marion E. Howland

EAST WORCESTER — A graveside committal service for Marion E. Howland, 96, who passed away Jan. 14, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the East Worcester Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Owens officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., Worcester.

Blanche Michael

HERNANDO, Fla. — Blanche "Happy" Constable Michael of Hernando, Fla., formerly of Walton, passed away at home Dec. 2, 2004, with her son, Roy and daughter-in-law, Gina at her side.

She was born in Walton on Sept. 3, 1919, to the late Andrew and Blanche Constable.

She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Harold Michael, who died Jan. 24, 1999. She was also predeceased by brothers, Abe, Bill, Harry, Jake, Morris, Bruce and Bob; and sisters, Thema, Iris, Nita, Olive, Kate, Marge and Dot. A sister-in-law, Flora Constable, died Dec. 5, 2004.

Surviving are her sons, Jack (Betty) Constable of Walton, Roy (Gina) Michael of Hernando, Fla., and Andy (Debra) Michael of Frankfort; a daughter, Jo (Phil) Childs of Maine; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Blanche was known for her avid gardens and flower beds, her fishing and as being a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

She taught Sunday school at the Beerston Presbyterian Church. She was also known for her work at the dentist office in Walton, for many years working for the late senator Dr. E. Ogden Bush and for doctors Sabbia, Smith and Nowak.

The family had a service in Inverness, Fla., on Dec. 4, after which Happy was cremated.

She will be laid to rest at a graveside service in the Walton Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, with the Rev. Dr. James Martin of the First Presbyterian Church of Walton officiating.

The family gives special thanks to her granddaughter, Dithanne (Deedee) Michael, who was her primary caregiver since January 2004. She, too, is a very special lady.

Donations to a local chapter of Hospice or to the Walton Fire Department, 59 West St., Walton, NY 13856 in her name would be appreciated.

Gerald E. Sutton

JEFFERSON — Gerald E. Sutton, 83, died March 27, 2005, at Robinson Terrace.

He was born March 3, 1922, in Rosedale, Ulster County, the son of Ernest A. Sutton and Cora B. Monroe.

He was married to Eva Merwin Miller on June 22, 1956, at the Stamford Methodist Parsonage.

Gerald was a farmer for most of his life, and worked for the Schoharie County Highway Department for 49 years. In his youth he lived in Blenheim and commuted to a job at the candy factory in Canajoharie. Since he did not own a car, he would walk and hitchhike to work and back home each day.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva Sutton; two stepchildren, David Miller and Cora Borggreen; a son, Gerald B. Sutton; and a daughter, Susan Madison. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Ruth Sutton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service with Pastor Frank Adams officiating will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson.

Friends and family are invited back to the family home after services.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Nina J. Powers

MILFORD — A graveside service of committal and burial for Mrs. Nina J. Powers, 85, of Goey Pond Road West and formerly of Hinman Hollow, who died Jan. 8, 2005, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in the Hartwick Cemetery.

After the service, all who attend are invited for a time of refreshment and fellowship at the home of Mr. J. Frederick Powers, 142 Goey Pond Road West in Milford.

Arrangements are under the direction of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Charles M. Mills

CANTON — Charles M. "Charlie" Mills, 95, of Hermon, formerly of Morley and Poughkeepsie, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005.

He was the loving father of Charles Jr., Raymond, Grace, Barbara, Daniel and Roger. He also had numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mills was a former brakeman for Penn Central Railroad, a part owner of Mills Brothers Trucking, a retired real-estate broker, a farmer, a pilot and a writer.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park St., Canton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, in the Maryland Cemetery, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to a library of one’s choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent online at www.lawrencefuneralhome.org.

Janet L. Hutson

DELANCEY — Graveside services for Janet L. Hutson, 84, formerly of DeLancey and Skywold Manor Adult Home, who passed away Jan. 13, 2005, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Debra L. Budine

WALTON — There will be a committal service for Debra L. Budine at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, in the Franklin Cemetery. All family and friends are invited. The Rev. Bert More will officiate.

Dean Jenison

PITTSFIELD — Dean LeRoy Jenison, 74, of Pittsfield passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Dean was born June 26, 1930, in Salisbury, the son of LeRoy and Esther (Soule) Jenison.

He was married to his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ritrovato, on Aug. 24, 1952, at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin. She survives him.

Dean moved to the town of Pittsfield with his family at 3 years old, where he resided for the rest of his life.

He attended the one-room school house in Ketchum before attending Morris Central School and New Berlin Central School.

Dean was a devoted family man, loving and wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.

He had a passion for animals of all kinds, always trying to make friends and pets of them. He had a unique sense of humor, always making everyone laugh.

Dean is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Katie (Fallon) Jenison, town of Pittsfield, and Henry Jenison, town of Pittsfield; granddaughter, Megan Marie Jenison, town of Pittsfield; his brother, Corliss Jenison and wife Betty of Baldwinsville; his sisters, Louise Miller, North Pitcher, and Cora Hentz and Ronald Burt, Sidney; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Owen Jenison.

Dean was employed by TACO, the town of Pittsfield and as a bus driver and custodian for New Berlin Central School for 20 years until his retirement in 1986. He also ran a dairy farm with the help of his family throughout his life.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, and the Phoebus Lodge No. 82 in New Berlin.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2005, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.
