GREENACRES, Fla. — Graveside committal services for Eugene A. Kludas of Greenacres, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, who died Dec. 7, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Frances Hubbard

GILBOA — Mrs. Frances M. Hubbard, 91, formerly of Gilboa, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at San Dorginio Hospital in Beaumont, Calif.

Mrs. Hubbard was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Middleburgh, the daughter of Clarence and Bessie (Laraway) Barber.

She was a resident of Gilboa all of her married life and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hubbard was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church.

She enjoyed sewing and scrapbooking.

Her husband, Clifton J. Hubbard, predeceased her Jan. 5, 1984.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Vonderheide of Beaumont, Calif., Carol Roberts of Callicoon, and Susan Ciacci of Matthews, N.C.; five sons, C. LaVerne Hubbard of Middleburgh, Gerald Hubbard of Madison, Ohio, Douglas Hubbard of Gilboa, David Hubbard of Altamont, and Wayne Hubbard of Warrenton, Va.; a half sister, Judith Newcomb of Altamont; 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Flat Creek Baptist Church, Flat Creek Road, Gilboa. Officiating will be the Rev. Jason Thompson.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Palmer & Shaylor Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.

Burial will be in Gilboa Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church, Flat Creek Road, Gilboa, NY 12076.

William Stephens Lautenschlager

LOS GASTOS, Calif. — William Stephens Lautenschlager, devoted husband and father, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005, in Los Gatos.

Bill was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Seeleyville, Pa., and graduated from Honesdale High School in June of 1957.

He married the only love of his life, Sally Anne Bellows, on Nov. 18, 1961. Bill and Sally joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1971, and Bill served there faithfully as his health permitted.

A true patriot, Bill served with distinction in the United States Air Force and received a Tiger award in Vietnam and an Oak Leaf Cluster for his acts of valor. He retired after 20 years of service as a Technical Sergeant on April 1, 1978. He immediately went to work for Pacific Bell, where he eventually retired in 1994.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Anne Lautenschlager and by his daughters Esther Cole of Missouri and Arlinda Terry of Oklahoma. He also is survived by three grandchildren; a great-grandson; his brothers, Paul and James; his sister, Nancy; and his aunt, Bertha Orth.

He was preceded in death by his parents Anson and Esther Pepper Lautenschlager.

There was a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Emanuel Convalescent Home in Los Gatos.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lawrence Station Ward in Sunnyvale.

Interment will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery and will take place later this month.

Arrangements are by Darling & Fischer Chapel of The Hills.

Joseph R. Wooley

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Joseph R. Wooley, formerly of Bainbridge, departed this life suddenly Friday, May 27, 2005. He was 40.

Joe was born July 16, 1964, in Flint, Mich.

He is survived by his fiancee, Samantha Lum; three stepchildren, Jessica, Keith and Billy Penix of Auburn Hills; his daughter, Jessica (Jeff) Twilley of Arizona; two stepgrandkids, Jeremiah and Gina Twilley; his mother, Mary Sue Wooley of Auburn Hills; his brother, George (Deborah) Wooley III of Clawson, Mich.; his sisters, April (Son) Nguyen of Sterling Heights, Mich., Stephanie (Harold) Williams of Pontiac, Mich., and Sharon Wooley of Auburn Hills; best friend, Timothy Haggerty, Mio, Mich., and many other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his dad, George F. Wooley Jr., and a sister, Suzanne.

Joe received a heart transplant on Feb. 27, 2003, in Albany.

In his spare time, Joe loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and was a NASCAR fan.

Joe will truly be missed and now is thought of as our angel watching over us forever.

Memorial services were held May 30 in Michigan.

Dorothy Brundage

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Dorothy (Dot) Brundage, 96, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, May 26, 2005.

She was born in Wurtsboro, on March 29, 1909, daughter of Abraham and Effie (Martin) Hubler.

On April 28, 1928, she married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Brundage.

She graduated from business college in Middletown before moving to Oneonta in 1946 to begin her career as vice president and secretary of Oneonta Bus Lines. Dot and Arthur owned and operated Oneonta Bus Lines until their retirement to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1970.

Dot was listed in the Who’s Who of American Women in 1968 in recognition for her accomplishments as a successful business woman. She was active in community projects and was a member of the Oneonta Federated Garden Club and the Woman’s Club, serving as president from 1964-66. Dot and her husband loved traveling, especially when it included a bridge tournament. They were members of the American Contract Bridge League, of which they became Life Masters. At the age of 72, Dot took up golf and amazed herself by getting a hole-in-one when she was still new at the game. She never missed watching a golf game on TV when Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus were playing. A huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, she also enjoyed watching baseball. Dot was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful afghans for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 75 years, Arthur, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Arthur Jr. and Nancy of Oneonta, and Dennis and LouAnn of Scottsdale; grandchildren, Susan Brown, Todd Brundage and Victoria White, all of Salem, Ore., Denise Tomaco of Schenectady, Donna Siciliano of Athens, Debra Butterworth of Hudson, and Scott Brundage of Hudson; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneida Street, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice Family Care Foundation, 1550 S. Alma School Road, Suite 9101, Mesa, AZ 85210.

Arrangements were made by Messinger’s Funeral Home of Scottsdale.

Joan Ulrich

SUMMIT — Mrs. Joan Ulrich, 67, of Eminence Road, Summit, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Ulrich was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Brooklyn, the daughter of William and Rose (Greeley) Hackett.

Mrs. Ulrich moved from Long Island to Summit in 1988. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Summit.

She married George H. Ulrich May 23, 1970. He predeceased her Oct. 16, 2000.

Survivors include her beloved son, Eric Ulrich; his fiancee, Heather Landacre; and their daughter, Taylor Ulrich; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Joseph Ulrich of Clifton Park, Dorothy and Vincent Gafforio of Ridge, L.I., and Evelyn and Philip Shook of Calverton, L.I.; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Grace Hackett of Commack, L.I.; and numerous, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, June 6, at St. Anna’s Catholic Church, Route 10, Summit, with Father Edward Golding as celebrant.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 6, in Gerald B. H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anna’s Catholic Church Route 7, Summit, NY 12175.

’Heshie’ Pollak

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Harry Jacob Pollak, 89, known as Heshie to the many people who loved him, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J.

He was born June 20, 1915, in Middle Village, N.Y., and lived in Plainview, N.Y., Miami Beach, Fla., and Clearbrook in Monroe Township, N.J.

A veteran of World War II, Pollak was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps, serving in Italy and several other posts in the United States and abroad.

A devoted, caring and kind husband, father and grandfather, Heshie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hannah B. (Brodsky) Pollak; his sons, Michael Martin Pollak of Monroe Township, and Sam Pollak of Oneonta; his daughter-in-law, Julie Anne Pollak of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Rachel Jenny Pollak, Deborah Penny Isabel Pollak, Sarah Michelle Pollak and Joseph Chaim Pollak; his brother, Leonard Pollak of Florida; his sister, Yetta Brodie of Florida; his sister-in-law Miriam Weissman; and brother-in-law Jack Weissman of New Jersey; sisters-in-law Lila Pollak and Jean Pollak of Florida; and many nieces and nephews who appreciated his gentle sense of humor and how much he cared for those he loved.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Jennie Pollak, sisters Sadie Geller and Evelyn Trachman, and brother Eli Pollak.

A graveside service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y.

Vera E. Dunshee

UNADILLA — Vera E. Dunshee, 96, of 894 Dunshee Road, Unadilla, passed into the hands of her Lord on Thursday morning, June 2, 2005, at Faxton St. Luke’s Health Care Center, New Hartford, with her family at her bedside.

She was born Aug. 23, 1908, in Binghamton, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Fitch.

She first married John Murphy on Jan. 27, 1925. He predeceased her Sept. 20, 1960. On May 14, 1966, she married Richard Dunshee in North Fenton. He passed away May 18, 1997.

She was a member of the Sidney Center United Methodist Church.

Vera was a loving mother and wonderful lady.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Saddlemire, and her husband, Wayne of Clinton; two sons, Larry Murphy of Verbanks and Roger Dunshee and his wife, Joan of Unadilla; stepdaughter, Florence Riddle of Warrensburg, Mo.; four grandsons, Alfred Saddlemire of Clinton, Robert Saddlemire and his wife, Patti of Waterville, David Murphy of Charlotte, N.C., and Charles Dunshee of Unadilla; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Patrick Murphy; a brother, LeGrand Fitch; and two sisters, Flora Thompson and Christina Foster, predeceased Vera.

Funeral and committal services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Burial will take place in the Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center.

Friends and family are invited to call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the funeral chapel.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams St., Endicott, NY 13760.

Walter L. Wilson

EARLVILLE — Walter L. Wilson, 78, of Earlville, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.

He was born June 20, 1926, in Cobleskill. Mr. Wilson was a United States Marine Corps veteran of W.W.II.

On July 25, 1959, in Cobleskill, he married Iris D. Neander.

For many years he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster of the Maryland Post Office in 1986. He was a former member of the Cobleskill American Legion and the Postmasters Association.

He is survived by his wife, Iris; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kim Wilson of Ballston Spa; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Todd Weisenbarger of Norwich and Kathy Weisenbarger of Morris; three brothers, Leonard of Texas and Burdette and Lewis, both of Cobleskill; two sisters, Elizabeth Weisenbach and Gladys Wright, both of Cobleskill; and five grandchildren, John, Jody, Elizabeth and Eric Wilson and Frederick Weisenbarger.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Charles Stratton
NORWICH — Charles Stratton, beloved father, brother, son, educator, coach and companion, died Friday evening, June 3, 2005. Born Dec. 15, 1953, in Norwich, Charles attended Oxford Academy High School, from which he graduated in 1972. While at Oxford, he was a three-sport varsity letterman and Section IV wrestling champion. He then attended Colgate University, where he was one of the last Division I three-sport varsity lettermen in football, wrestling and track. By the time he left Colgate, he had received his bachelor’s degree in economics and his master’s degree in teaching. He continued his education his entire life, receiving administrative certification at SUNY Cortland in 1986, and was a doctoral candidate at Syracuse University at the time of his death.Charles was the son of William Stratton and Ruth Putman-Stratton. He lived and worked on the family farm on King Settlement Road, Norwich, and then moved to Oxford at 10 years old.He is survived by his father, William Stratton and his wife, Sharon; his mother, Ruth Putman-Stratton; his three sons, Bill, Eric and Zachary Stratton; his companion, Tena Chapin, and her granddaughter, Alexandra (Peanut); Eric and Zachary’s mother, Kathy and her parents, Earl and Myrtle Reed; his brother, Albert Stratton; his sisters, Billie Jean, Stella (Steve Ohl), Sarah, Catherine and Anna (Adam Gardner); his stepbrothers and sisters, Kris, Adam, Dina and John Marinos; and his grandmother, Dorothy Stratton of Norwich.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Minnie Putman and grandfather, Albert Stratton.Charles was first and foremost an educator and worked as a teacher at his alma mater, Oxford Academy. He continued to work for public education as an administrator for several school districts, including as a high school principal at Delhi and New Berlin, and a superintendent at Stockbridge Valley Central School. He finished his career as superintendent of Unadilla Valley Central School.Education was not the only means by which Charles expressed his care and love of youth. Charles coached football and wrestling at Oxford until he became an administrator. He also worked as the director of sailing and boating at Camp Dudley (the oldest camp for boys in the United States) for more than 20 years. Charles was vice-president of Section IV athletics for two years and president at the time of his death. Charles was an advisory board member for the Catskill Area Teachers Center.His family and friends will remember him as a family man, whose cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing, cigars, laughing, joking, singing, card playing, harmonica, sailing, smelting, teaching, golfing, traditions, wrestling, coaching, farming, dancing, and love will be cherished forever.Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 7.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Main Street, Oxford.In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made in his memory for a scholarship fund, which will be established in his honor at the National Bank and Trust Company of Norwich.
