Rosa Small Reed

JEFFERSON — Rosa Small Reed, 78, of the town of Harpersfield, passed away at home June 8, 2005.

She was born Dec. 4, 1926, on Long Island, the daughter of Frederick W. and May (Daniels) Small.

She married the late Joseph Reed in Brooklyn on Jan. 8, 1946. He predeceased her March 25, 2001.

Mrs. Reed was a secretary in medical records at Adelphi Hospital, Brooklyn.

She is survived by a son, Fred Reed of Goldsboro, N.C.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Dorothy Brundage

ONEONTA — A memorial service for Dorothy (Dot) Brundage, 96, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneida Street, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwall officiating.

Dot passed away peacefully Thursday, May 26, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice Family Care Foundation, 1550 S. Alma School Road, Suite 9101, Mesa, AZ 85210.

Everest E. Dibble

GILBERTSVILLE — Everest E. Dibble Sr., 77, of Gilbertsville died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at his home.

He was born April 29, 1928, in Bloomville, the son of James and Rena (Constable) Dibble.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Dorothy Hoag in 1990 in East Guilford.

He retired from Gilbertsville Central School as head bus mechanic. In his younger years,he owned and operated the Esso Garage in Gilbertsville and drove a transport for Oneonta Oil Company. At one time he was employed as a car salesman for Houghtaling’s of Sidney and worked for Van Houtens construction of Gilbertsville. After his retirement, he continued to work part time operating his own lawn-mowing service.

He was a very proud 53-year member of the American Legion Post 1339 of Gilbertsville and a life member of the VFW of Morris. He had served as Scoutmaster of Troop 44 of Gilbertsville for five years and was a life member of the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church.

He was an avid golfer and was very active in several golf leagues at the CJ Golf Course, where he thoroughly enjoyed his many friendships. He also was one of the founders of the Butternut Valley Bowling league and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Gilbertsville; a son, Everest E. Dibble Jr. and wife Patricia of Gilbertsville; a daughter, Joanna Lobdell of Gilbertsville; a son, Jeffrey Pedersen and wife Laurie of Gilbertsville; and a son, Jerry Pedersen of Morris. Everest was blessed by his grandchildren, Everest E. Dibble III, Timothy Dibble and wife Lisa, Kristy, Justin, Jennifer and Jared Pedersen and Jeffrey Stanford; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his brothers,James Dibble of Delhi, Donald Dibble of South New Berlin and Charles Dibble of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and a sister, Viola Hiatt of Orlando, Fla.

He was predeceased by his brothers Marshall, Clarence, Lloyd, William, Leo and John Dibble; and sisters Margaret Carmody and Elva Jurgens.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Funeral services will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, with the Rev. Barbara Schwartz officiating.

Committal services with military honors will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.

Those who want to are asked to make donations to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or the American Legion Post No. 1339 of Gilbertsville (Handicap Equipment Fund) in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Joyce C. McIntyre

WALTON — Joyce C. McIntyre, 87, of Walton passed away Saturday night, June 11, 2005, at Teresian House, Albany.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Peggy Fabrizio officiating.

James Evangelow

EXETER — James Evangelow, 79, of Angel Hill Road,entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 9, 2005, in his home.

He was born Nov. 14, 1925, in New York City, son of the late Soterious and Evanthia Evangelow.

James was raised in New York City and was a graduate of New York City public schools.

An honorably discharged United States Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award.

He was married to Gladys Davies Evangelow, who died in 1991.

For the past 52 years, Mr. Evangelow had resided in Burlington Flats. He was a draftsman for more than 25 years with the Bendix Corporation in Utica, retiring in 1991.

To all who knew James, he was a quiet man who enjoyed his solitude. He will be missed by his friends and family.

Surviving are two sons, David A. Evangelow of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and James W. Evangelow and his wife, Wendie, of Burlington Flats; three daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Steven Davis of Virginia, Madeline and Harry Eckler of Arizona, and Marianne and Charles Demorest of Burlington Flats; one brother, Angelo Evangelow and his wife, Margie, of New York City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and George Evangelow.

A graveside service will be in the Exeter Center Cemetery at a time convenient to the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

John Lloyd Ayer

ITHACA — John Lloyd Ayer, 81, of Ithaca and formerly of Cazenovia died peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Cayuga Medical Center.

John was born April 22, 1924, in Claremont, N.H., the son of Bernice Lloyd Ayer and Harold Easter Ayer. He grew up in Marblehead, Mass., and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1942. He attended the University of New Hampshire for a year before joining the Marine Corps. He finished his college career at Cornell University, where he graduated from the School of Engineering in 1947.

He met his wife, Helen Allmuth, at Cornell, and they were married June 21, 1947.

He worked for many years at Carrier Corporation in Syracuse. After his retirement, he was supervisor for the town of Cazenovia. He enjoyed the job immensely and spoke fondly of his "life in politics."

John and Helen traveled extensively during their retirement, visiting all seven continents as well as riding on the Orient Express.

John was very involved in the Cazenovia community, serving as the chairman of the Town Board of Appeals and on the Vestry and as a church warden at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. In addition, he was appointed to the New York State Solid Waste Commission.

John and Helen received the Cazenovia Winter Festival Community Service Award as well. After John and Helen moved to Kendal at Ithaca, John served St. John’s Episcopal Church as a vestryman and also worked at Kendal in various capacities.

John was a loyal alumnus of Cornell University and worked hard for the school over the years doing everything from fund raising and planning reunions to cheering loyally for the sports teams. John was also a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and was elated at the outcome of the 2004 World Series.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen; as well as his four children and their spouses, Elizabeth Ayer and Ed Macaulay of Oneonta, John A. and Kristen Ayer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carol and Doug Mugglin of Heath, Ohio, and Lori and Glen Dumais of East Aurora. He is also survived by his 10 beloved grandchildren, Catherine and Alec Macaulay, Lynsay, Casey and Lauren Ayer, Erika, Brett and Derek Mugglin, and Andrew and Sarah Dumais. Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Ben Ayer and Rochelle Bartlett of Marblehead, Mass.; sister, Jane Clay of Foster City, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Alison and Larry Voelker of Pittsfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider a gift to Kendal at Ithaca or to the Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (CAVAC), PO Box 56, Cazenovia, NY 13035.

Friends may call 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Kendal at Ithaca.

The memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ithaca.

Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Roy Ludwig

MOUNT VISION — Roy Ludwig, 67, of Mount Vision died June 12, 2005, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born in Berlin, Germany, on Feb. 11, 1938.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Elaine Kalil on July 10, 1989, in Vernon, N.J.

He retired from the New York Telephone Company (AT&T) as an associate director after more than 35 years of service.

He had resided in the area for the past 10 years and was formerly of New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Mount Vision; two daughters, Maureen Eronheim of Germany and Susan Ludwig; as well as several grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, and the funeral service will commence at 8 p.m. with the Rev. John Burns officiating.

Cremation will take place at the Hillington Crematory in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the Garrattsville Emergency Squad in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Jean H. Frink

NEW BERLIN — Jean H. Frink, 80, of New Berlin passed away early Monday morning, June 13, 2005, in the Chase Memorial Nursing Home.

Born in Norwich on July 25, 1924, daughter of Walter and Amy (Follett) Harrington, Jean was a graduate of Norwich High School. Furthering her education, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the Cortland State Teachers College.

In 1944, Jean married Clifton A. Frink, who passed away in January 1967.

Jean’s first teaching assignment was with the Stockbridge Valley School, where she taught for a year. She then taught fourth grade in the New Berlin school system for the next 37 years, retiring in 1987. Jean was a born teacher with the ability to see the best quality in each and every student and to work to bring it out.

She was also very involved over the years in the DAR, being the local Regent at one time.

In her leisure, she enjoyed her flower garden and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she had cared for over the years and in whom she had much pride.

Jean is survived by her sons, Thomas W. Frink and wife Sheila of New Berlin, and Clifton J. Frink and companion Patty James of Pittsfield; by her four grandchildren, Johanna Cleveland and husband Robert of New Berlin, William Frink and wife Tammy of Corning, and Christopher and Connie Jean Frink; and by her great-grandsons, Aaron and Andrew Cleveland. She is also survived by her nephews, Gordon and James Ballantine of Oneonta; cousins, Charles and Richard Hadley of Oneida; and her special friend, Linda Winton of Columbus, whom Tom and Sheila wish to thank for the help and love given to Jean over the years.

In addition to her husband, Clifton, Jean was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Harrington and Minnie Ballantine.

Memorial service for Jean will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Taylor, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of New Berlin, will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.

Margaret McTighe

FRANKLIN — Margaret A. McTighe, 88, of Franklin passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Ridgewood, the daughter of Christian and Margaret C. (Foster) Buchheit.

She married Vincent E. McTighe on May 10, 1941, and he passed away Feb. 21, 1994.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the special times spent with her family.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, the Franklin Senior Citizens, Franklin Craft Club, the Rosary Society of St. Thomas Church in West Hempstead, and the South Shore Power Squadron. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie leader.

Margaret enjoyed horseback riding, the piano, and arts and crafts of all kinds, as well as gardening and cooking.

She is survived by her children, Maureen Ruisi and Joe Newman of Wickenburg, Ariz., Dennis McTighe and his wife, Robin, of Davenport Center, Vincent McTighe and his wife, Janet, of Scotia, Kevin McTighe of Oregon, Midge Bonker and her husband, Gary, of Franklin; her grandchildren, Donna Perkinson, Diane Kirkendall, Joanne Naylor, Theresa Sherman, Kenneth McTighe, Chris McTighe, Jessica Kroll, Brooke Miskell, Erik McTighe, Kyra McTighe, Jacob Bonker and Michelle Bonker; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Aries of Massapequa Park; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Stabb.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. Mr. Michael Donnell officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Department FH, Oneonta, NY 13820, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta, NY 13820, or the Franklin Emergency Squad, Franklin, NY 13775.
