Gladys A. Parker

MILFORD — Gladys Alma Parker, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born June 26, 1920, the daughter of Jeremiah and Maria Parker, and foster daughter of Leslie and Marie Lynch.

Gladys was a graduate of Cooperstown High School, the Knox School for Girls, and American University in Washington, D.C. She also attended Boston College, then graduated from Cambridge School of Business, and New York City and Schwartz School of Business on Long Island.

She served 12 years for the American National Red Cross. Gladys retired at 62 years old from LTV Steel Corporation in Philadelphia, Pa.

Gladys has no surviving relatives. She is survived by her foster relatives, Ani Colone and family; William Fuer and family; and several close friends.

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John P. Rosson and the Rev. John Roos as celebrants.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons at a later date.

At Gladys’ request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 101 Main St., Cooperstown, or St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 31 Elm St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Elizabeth B. Field

CLARENCE — Elizabeth B. Field, 87, of Clarence, formerly of Hamden, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2005, in the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a short illness.

Mrs. Field was born April 14, 1918, in Franklin, the daughter of the late Norman and Cora Gilbert Cole.

She was a practical nurse, employed by Fox Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta.

Her first husband, Stanley VanValkenburg, passed away in 1964. She later married Cecil Field, who died in January 2003.

She was a former member of the Hamden Senior Center and the Clarence Senior Center.

As a young mother and housewife, she helped her husband in the operation of the family farm. She always had time for her children, running them to ballgames and 4-H programs.

She loved to crochet and make quilts, she made fantastic pies, and she always made people comfortable with her friendly smile. She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Williamsville.

She is survived by two sons, Philip VanValkenburg Sr. of Mount Upton and Michael VanValkenburg and his wife, Vicki, of Salem, Va.; a daughter, Anna Cuyler and her friend, Larry Porto, of Clarence; nine grandchildren, Deb Kleiner, Philip VanValkenburg Jr., Victoria Kravetsky, David VanBuren, Shane VanValkenburg, Diane and Michael Cuyler, Ruth Ann Senecal and David VanValkenburg; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Morgan, Tim, Nicole, Tim, Muriah, Tina, Ariel, Brianne, Mikayla, Thomas Michael, Alexandra and Kosei; one brother, Byron Cole of South New Berlin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Stanley VanValkenburg and Cecil Field; one son, Francis VanValkenburg in 2001; one granddaughter, Nicole Lynn VanValkenburg in 1970; four brothers, Willard, Paul, Philip and Arthur Cole; and a sister, Thelma Figary.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-Memorial, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Eva R. Fuller

MYRTLE BEACH, Fla. — Eva Rockwell Fuller, 76, wife of the late James Richard Fuller, died in her Myrtle Beach home March 17, 2005, with her family by her side.

She was born April 21, 1928, in Highmount, a daughter of the late Stephen and Lelia Greene Rockwell. Her family moved to Fleischmanns, where she grew up.

She married James Richard Fuller on Sept. 28, 1946. She worked many years for the New York Bell Telephone Company, as well as with the Fleischmanns Theatre, The Cindy Style Shop, Belleayre Ski Shop and often volunteered to support the cancer and other fund-raising organizations. She was the village of Fleischmanns registrar and the court clerk.

She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed visits with family and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She spent many happy hours quilting with friends in the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church and putting on church suppers. She and her husband were long-standing members of the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church. Eva and Jim enjoyed square dancing with friends in the community and traveling with their travel trailer. They moved to Myrtle Beach after his retirement from the United States Post Office.

She was predeceased by her husband, James, and a sister, Lelia Maxim.

Survivors include one son, Melvin Fuller and wife Deirdre of Central Bridge; two daughters, Merry Lou Wickham and husband James of Oneonta and Cathy Fuller of Myrtle Beach; one brother, Charles Greene of Rifton; four grandchildren, Jay Conklin and wife Stacy, Erica Wickham, and Maggie and Hannah Fuller; and two great-grandchildren, Amber and Josh Conklin.

There will be a memorial service at the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church, Fleischmanns, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, with the Rev. Joon Lee officiating.

Burial will follow in the Clovesville Cemetery, Clovesville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Fuller’s name may be made to the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church. Fleischmanns, NY 12430, or the Regency Hospice, 11943 Grand Haven Drive, Suite A, Garden City, SC 29576.

The E.B. Gormley Funeral Home in Phoenicia is assisting the family.

Eston Lambrecht

MASONVILLE — Eston C. Lambrecht, 78, of Masonville passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.

He was born Nov. 5, 1926, in the town of Sidney, the son of the late George and Sara (Pomeroy) Lambrecht.

Eston was a lifelong resident of the Sidney Center area, for many years was employed by Jess F. Howes Inc. of Sidney Center and at one time was a self-employed well driller.

He served in the United States Army from 1945-46. He was a member of the Sidney Center Rod and Gun Club.

Eston is survived by his companion of many years, Janette K. Hafele of Masonville; his sons, Terry and his wife, Terry Lee Lambrecht, of Trout Creek and Gerry Lambrecht and his companion, Ruth Reynolds, of Loomis Brook; and his daughter and her husband, Elaine and Scott DeVost of Sidney. He also is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren and Avis Lambrecht, Thurston and Pauline Lambrecht and Bruce L. and Beverly Lambrecht, all of Sidney Center; a sister, Patricia Lambrecht of Chatham; also several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Clifford Lambrecht.

Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center, with the Rev. David S. Gatje, pastor of the Trout Creek Community Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Center Fire Department, Sidney Center, NY 13839 in memory of Eston C. Lambrecht.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

André Joussé

HARTWICK — André Fernand Marcel Joussé, 80, of Hartwick died Wednesday afternoon, June 15, 2005, at Otsego Manor.

A native of France, André was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Ville D’Asniéres-surSeine, République Francaise, and was the son of Marcel Fernand Léon Joussé and Jeanne Marie Poulain Saviet.

Raised and educated in France, he proudly served his native land during World War II as a soldier in the French Army. He fought in Indo China and Vietnam and was the recipient of the Croix de Guerre, as well as numerous other military awards and honors.

In 1935, André came to the United States in order to learn more about dairy cows and milk production. He brought his knowledge to Switzerland, but returned to the United States in the early 1940s and attained citizenship in 1956.

On July 16, 1954, André married the former Margherita Belluardo in Paterson, N.J., where they settled and raised their family. For many years, he was employed by Fairlawn (N.J.) Trucking as a diesel mechanic and welder. At one time, he also owned and operated Maria’s Pizzeria in West Orange, N.J.

Upon retiring in 1975, André and Margherita moved to the town of Hartwick, where, for a brief period of time, he was employed by the town as a mechanic.

Most of his time, though, was spent enjoying their property, where he loved to garden and work in his woods cutting trees. An avid hunter, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and as a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club, he and his wife enjoyed touring on their motorcycle.

André is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margherita, a resident of Otsego Manor; two daughters, Mrs. Marcelle (’Marcy’) O’Brien and her husband, Richard Jr., of Hartwick, and Mrs. Joanne DeVries and her husband, Roger, of Wayne, N.J.; one son, Philip Joussé and his wife, Barbara, of Cresco, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Andrea DeVries, Roger DeVries and his wife, Denise, Marcelle Denninger and her husband, Gary, Dawn Emerson and her husband, Bryan, Meagen O’Brien, Robert O’Brien, Katie Allison and her husband, Joe, and Patrick O’Brien; and one great-granddaughter, Makayla Love Denninger, with whom he loved to spend time.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John C. Young officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service Monday morning.

Cremation will follow, and per André’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered on his property near the burial sites of his beloved hunting dogs.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Catskill Area Hospice Hope Foundation, 1 Birchwood Drive — Department FH, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

John C. Mahig

DELHI — John C. Mahig, 91, of Maggie Hoag Road, Delhi, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Vassar Hospital, Poughkeepsie.

He was born June 1, 1914, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles and Mary (Tinger) Mahig.

He married Mary Jane Hirchak on Aug. 18, 1950, in Yonkers. She predeceased him in August 1997.

Formerly employed with Laborers Local No. 60 in Hawthorne, Mr. Mahig retired in 1979 and moved to Delhi, where he resided for the last 28 years. Mr. Mahig was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Delhi, the Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post No. 190, Delhi, and was a life member and former Commander of VFW Post No. 375 in Yonkers.

He served overseas in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant during WWII from 1942 through 1946.

His children and grandchildren survive him: Yvonne and son-in-law Leonard Szpara of Pennsylvania, Nancy E. and son-in law Robert LaMancuso of Walden; a son, Robert J. and daughter-in-law Jo-Ann Mahig of Wappingers Falls; and four grandchildren, Michelle and Moriah Szpara, Kristina Lynn and Stefen Jon LaMancuso.

Funeral services for Mr. Mahig will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with Louise Evans of Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, officiating.

Interment will take place in Andes Cemetery, Andes.

Friends may call at the MacArthur Funeral home at their convenience on Sunday, June 19. The family will be in attendance Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Delhi Fire Department, Delhi, or Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Yorktown Heights, in memory of John C. Mahig.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Alan C. Graham

NEWBURGH — Alan Clark Graham, 84, of Newburgh passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, June 15, 2005.

The son of Sidney and Estella Hall Graham, he was born on Nov. 12, 1920, in Herkimer.

He married Dorothy Buel on Dec. 28, 1942.

A decorated World War II veteran, he flew 20 combat missions in Europe as a B-24 pilot in the 66th Bombardment Squadron, 44th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He received a BA and MBA from Syracuse University and worked in business management for 41 years for the Atlantic Richfield Company, Africa Inland Mission, the Kings College and Senior Citizens Apartments in Bridgeport, Conn. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1420 in Newburgh.

Moving to Newburgh in 1966, Alan and his family worshipped at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church for more than 12 years and previously worshipped at Chapel Hill Community Church, Oak Street Baptist Church and Leptondale Bible Church. He served as a church deacon, church treasurer and sang in the choir. He lived and died a faithful witness to the saving grace of Jesus and in service to man and God. His personal life verse was Philippians 1:21: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

Alan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Alan Clark Graham, Jr. and his wife, Barbara; daughter, Jeanne Estella Graham; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, John and Larry; and two sisters, Virginia and Ina.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, June 20, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home from 12 to 1 p.m. before to the service.

Interment will follow in the Manorkill Cemetery Manorkill.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 25, at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, Old Little Britain Road, Newburgh.

Donations may be made to African Inland Mission, PO Box 178, Pearl River, NY 10965; or the American Air Museum, PO Box 97055, Washington, DC 20090.

Pearl M. Hodges

LAURENS — Memorial services for Pearl M. Hodges, nee Shelley, (Betty Jorgensen), will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the Laurens American Legion. Ashes will be interred in Laurens Village Cemetery after services.

Betty was born in Davenport, and lived in Laurens and Miami, Fla. She retired to Otego and Crystal River, Fla.

Betty was a charter member, past president and director of the American Legion Post 1688 Laurens.
