John W. Gramlich

BLOOMVILLE — John W. Gramlich, 79, of Bloomville died Friday, June 24, 2005.

He was born Oct. 15, 1925, in Mt. Kisco the son of John S. and Clara (Stewart) Gramlich.

He married Mary (Koerner) Gramlich on Oct. 26, 1946. She predeceased him June 21, 1992.

Mr. Gramlich was a veteran of the United States Army. He served during World War II from 1943-46 with the 90th Infantry Division during the D-Day Invasion at Utah Beach and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Raised in Greenwich, Conn., John relocated to Bloomville in 1970, where he was co-owner of G&G Home Improvements. He attended Community Church in Delhi and belonged to the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by one son and his wife, John W. Jr. and Patricia (Brund) Gramlich of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandchildren, John W. Gramlich III of Redondo Beach, Calif., Michael H. and Julie Gramlich of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah E. Gramlich of Chicago, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Britney M. Gramlich of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, Erwin Gramlich, formerly of Bloomville and now of Camp Verde, Ariz., and Allen S. Gramlich of Brookfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Community Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Derek Johnson officiating.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Burial will follow the service in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Community Church, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Edward J. Bramsen

MARYLAND — The family of Edward J. Bramsen would like to invite you to a memorial service to celebrate his life at the Maryland Cemetery, at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, with the Rev. Eric Santamont officiating. Following the service, an informal reception will be held at the home of Joan Bramsen.

Arrangements were by the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Helen W. Rowe

ONEONTA — Helen W. Rowe, 99, of Oneonta died Friday, June 24, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 7, 1906, in Carbondale, Pa., the daughter of James T. and Anna (Rakk) Worthington.

She married Earl H. Rowe on Feb. 18, 1933, in the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. Mr. Rowe died Dec. 20, 1978.

Helen moved to Oneonta from Carbondale, Pa., in 1907. She worked as a bookkeeper at Rowe’s Auto Service in Oneonta until her retirement in 1964.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta and attended the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church.

Her sisters-in-law, Gladys Govern and Evelyn Rowe Jacobs, survive her. Helen is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, as well as many loving and loyal friends.

Funeral services for Helen W. Rowe will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Rodney Johnson, pastor of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, care of Gerald Wood, PO Box 1, Colliersville, NY 13747 or to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in Helen’s memory.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Anna Rockafellow

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A graveside committal service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, in the North Blenheim Cemetery for Anna Decker Rockafellow, 87, who passed away Friday, May 6, 2005. The Rev. Jane Pykus, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church, will be officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St., Worcester.

Alexander Michael-Lee Gaudreau

PITTSFIELD — Alexander Michael-Lee "Alex" Gaudreau, 5, of Pittsfield, died unexpectedly, Sunday, June 26, 2005. at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 28, 1999, in Sidney, the son of Edward Lee and Melissa (Shampagne) Gaudreau.

Alex had just completed kindergarten, where he excelled in many of his subjects and was looking forward to moving into the first grade at Morris Central School.

Alex was his dad’s best friend and little sidekick. When his dad would pick up side jobs, Alex would go with him and lend a helping hand, and in the winter they would ride a snowmobile together. Alex also enjoyed riding his bike, reading, playing with his brothers and sisters and his friends, and he especially enjoyed going and seeing his grandparents.

Alex is survived by his father and stepmother, Edward and Mama Jen Gaudreau, of Pittsfield; his mother, Melissa Gaudreau, of Afton; his brothers and sisters, Joshua Richardson, Kaitlin Hauptmann and Desiree Gaudreau, all of Pittsfield, Destiny Gaudreau, Devyn Gaudreau, Amber Gaudreau, Jade Gaudreau, Shyanne Minshall, all of Afton, and Kayla Miller of Unadilla; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Nancy Gaudreau Jr., of Deposit; his maternal grandparents, Gary and Ruth Jennings, of Bainbridge; his grandparents, Bruce and Becky Palmeter, of Otego; his great-grandpa, Edward Hillier, of Unadilla; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by an uncle, Frank Gaudreau III, in 1998.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Pastor Danny Legault officiating.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Stella M. Jones

GRAND GORGE — Stella M. Jones, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Grand Gorge, went to be with God on June 28, 2005, at Peace River Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, Fla., with her family around her.

She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Stamford, daughter of Mary (Manion) Moore and James Moore.

She graduated from Grand Gorge Central School in 1913 at the age of 16 and graduated from Oneonta Normal School three years later with a teaching certificate. She began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Margaretville and later moved into the new Margaretville Central School after its completion. She retired in 1975 from Grand Gorge Central School. After that, she substituted in many area schools in New York and Florida.

After moving to Florida, she resided with her daughter, Mary, and husband Matt DeBoer for several years. She then became a member of Bon Secours Day Care Family and then the Royal Palm Assisted Living Family.

She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Philip Neri Church in Grand Gorge before moving to Florida. She was also a member of St. Maximilian Colbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to be with her family and friends and will be missed by all.

She married Robert W. Jones of Arkville on Aug. 22, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. He died in November 1980.

She is survived by three daughters, Toni and Don Osborn of Roxbury, Mary and Matt DeBoer of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Kay Keller of Brandon, Fla.; three sons, Robert Jr. and Susan Jones of Lakeland, Fla., James and Linda Jones of Lakeland, Fla., and Thomas Jones and Sandy Baker of Port Charlotte, Fla.; six grandchildren, Deanna Osborn of Roxbury, Dawnn Wagner of Athens, Ga., James Jones of Lakeland, Fla., Kecia Keller of West Palm, Fla., Kara Keller of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tara DeBoer of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Sr. Mary Loretta (Helen Moore) of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Patrick Jones, on Nov. 1, 1991.

Funeral Mass for Stella M. Jones will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Grand Gorge with the Rev. Michael Cournoyer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, Main Street, Roxbury, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Contributions in her memory can be made to your area Hospice, Sacred Heart Church, PO Box 38, Stamford NY 12167 or St. Maximilian Colbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte, FL 33948.

Harry W. Segrist

MILFORD — Harry W. Segrist, 74, of Milford died Monday, June 27, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Harry was born April 21, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., the only child of Wilbur and Anna (Burke) Segrist. He was raised and attended school in Buffalo.

In June 1967, Harry married Leila Bacon, and they resided in Ridgewood, N.J., until his retirement in 1988 from his position as a "set-up mechanic" with the Avon Corporation. After his retirement, Harry and Leila moved to Milford where, for the past 17 years, they have owned and operated the Country Meadow Inn on North Main Street.

Harry was civic-minded and involved in the activities of his community. He was a former mayor of the village of Milford (1993-1995) and served as the town of Milford zoning officer from 1996 to 1997. He was a veteran of the National Guard, a member of the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566 and a former member of the Milford Rotary Club.

In addition, Harry had a number of personal interests. He held a black belt in judo and was a martial arts instructor. He was also an accomplished woodworker, a skilled cook and an avid hunter.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Leila; his daughters, Pamela Deschamps and her husband, Charles, of New Rochelle, and Melissa Sandner and her husband, John, of Totowa, N.J.; and his three sons, Douglas Ferguson and his wife, Susan, of Memphis, Tenn., Glenn Ferguson of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gregory Ferguson and his wife, Helen, of New Bedford, Mass. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Milford American Legion Hall on West Main Street in Milford with the Rev. Stephen D. Fournier, pastor of the Milford Center Community Bible Church, officiating. The family will be in attendance at the American Legion Hall from 10 a.m. until the time of the service to receive friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Harry’s memory to the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566, West Main Street, Milford, NY 13807 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Alex J. Brolewski

ROSEBOOM — Mr. Alex J. (John) Brolewski, 78, passed away after a short illness Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Deborah.

John was born March 29, 1927, in Utica, the son of Alex and Acksianara (Kurowski) Bralewski.

Early in his childhood, the family moved to a farm on Dietsche Road in the town of Cherry Valley. When moving here, he was unable to speak English, being his nationality was Polish, so it was difficult. He attended Cherry Valley Central School.

He enlisted in the Army during World War II. He was Armor Division, then transferring to MP’s as a guard in the Nuremberg Trials in Germany. He was so proud that he had an assignment to guard Gering during those trials. When he came home he met and married Genevieve E. Edwards on Nov. 22, 1951. She predeceased him Dec. 22, 2003.

He worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He built many ponds, driveways and roads and did landscaping throughout the various counties until his retirement.

John had a very "green thumb." He enjoyed growing vegetables, fruits, flowers and working with his fruit trees. John’s delight was to see his plants grow and to share the plants’ fruits with his family, friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ken Mitchell of Cherry Valley; mother-in-law, Marcia Edwards of Cooperstown; granddaughters, Rebecca and her husband, Pete Sprague, of Cooperstown, and Melissa Mabie of Middlefield; great-grandchildren, Jordie Michael Sprague and Joshua, Bethany and Brittany Mabie; a sister-in-law, Emma Fogel; brothers-in-law, Vaughn Edwards and Earl and Karen Edwards; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Mike Stannard and family, Raymond Gage and family, and especially Louie and Maggie VanDerwerker. He had many, many friends throughout the area. He enjoyed visiting and talking about the "good ole days."

He was predeceased by his grandsons, Alton John (AJ) and Douglas Raymond German; father-in-law, Earl Edwards; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frederick and Norma Mabie, Dorothy Edwards and Robert Fogel.

Funeral services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Alan Miller officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hospice nurses and other staff members that helped with his needs during his illness.

Contributions in Alex’s memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Patsy DeFilippo

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Patsy DeFilippo, 69, died Friday, June 24, 2005, while undergoing surgery in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was born in Yonkers, the son of Ciro and Angelina (Viglucci) DeFilippo. He attended Yonkers schools.

He served two years in the United States Army.

He moved to Harpersfield in 1973 and later to Davenport before moving to Florida, where he owned and managed an assisted-living facility.

Patsy is survived by his former wife, Mary (Sywyk) DeFilippo; two sons, Richard and Nicholas, both of Florida; and his longtime companion, Dona Schulz, also of Florida. In addition, he is survived by one sister, Mildred Branca; brothers, Fred, Andrew, Ciro and John; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Richard.

Funeral services are being held in Florida.
