Gerald Bushnell
COOPERSTOWN — A memorial service for Gerald Bushnell, 90, an active and involved member of the Cooperstown community for many years who died Jan. 14, 2005, in Doylestown, Pa., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Robert Hearst, a former pastor of the church, officiating.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Gladys Parker
MILFORD — The committal service for Gladys Alma Parker, 84, who passed away June 14, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons with the Rev. John P. Rossen officiating.
Arrangements are by Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
Janet Near Patrick
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Janet Near Patrick, 95, passed away March 9, 2005, in Florida.
A committal service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2005, in the East Worcester Cemetery, state Highway 7. Following the service, the family will be receiving friends at the East Worcester United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
Herman J. Koenig
DELHI — Herman J. Koenig, 79, of Delhi passed away Tuesday morning, July 12, 2005, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
The son of Fredrick and Elizabeth (Wagenbenner) Koenig, he was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Rimpar (Bavaria), Germany, coming to the United States at 9 years old. He grew up in Treadwell, where he received his education at the A.L. Kellogg School, later moving to New York City.
A Korean-era U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in Europe, after which he married Marianne E. Jacoby in New York City on March 17, 1962. She died Sept. 10, 1993.
Herman was a self-employed carpenter in the metropolitan area until retirement, when he returned to live in Franklin, then Delhi, in 1986.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred J. and Mara Sue Koenig of Rome; a daughter, Cecelia M. Koenig of Eagle Lake, Maine; two sisters, Erika Weber of Delhi and Elizabeth Carmen of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda L. Koenig, in 1997.
Friends are invited to attend graveside services with military honors by Ouleout Valley Post No. 1689 American Legion at 4 p.m. Friday, July 15, in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.
Theodore W. Miller
WHEATFIELD — Theodore W. Miller Sr., 76, of the town of Wheatfield entered into rest July 1, 2005, while in the DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility in North Tonawanda.
Born in New Bethlehem, Pa., on Dec. 6, 1928, he moved to the Western New York area as a teen.
Ted is a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, with one Bronze Service Star, and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was employed at Electric City Paper for 18 years and then at Smurfit-Stone Container for 26 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, the Bergholz Fire Company, of which he served as president for two terms, Niagara County Firemen’s Association, American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451, Western New York Gas & Steam Engine Association, Sanborn Historical Society, and the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. He enjoyed woodworking and snowmobiling.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. July 5, 2005, in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church.
Interment is in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, town of Wheatfield.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J. (Lover) Miller of Wheatfield; his mother, Maxine Miller-Gruver of North Tonawanda; three children, Theodore Miller Jr. of Bergholz, Sheree (Edwin) Beach of Bloomville and David G. (Justa) Miller of Lewiston; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Bushover of North Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris H. DeBevoise
OTEGO — Doris H. DeBevoise, 93, of Otego passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born July 1, 1912, in Franklin, the daughter of Lewis and Elfleda (Merril) Bennett.
Doris graduated from the Delaware Literary Institute in Franklin.
She married Calvin E. Haney on Jan. 30, 1935, in Franklin. Mr. Haney predeceased her Dec. 16, 1970. On April 23, 1977, Doris married Kenneth H. DeBevoise in Otego. Mr. DeBevoise predeceased her Aug. 11, 1982.
Doris enjoyed traveling and helping "the old people" by giving them rides to church and hair and doctor appointments.
She was very active in the church, first in Franklin and then later in Otego. Together with her husband, Calvin, they ran a dairy farm in Otego.
Doris was a wonderful cook and made the best apple pie, popcorn balls and molasses cookies.
From her early years and on, Doris kept a diary. Every year at Christmastime, when the family was together, she would read from it about what events had taken place and what the weather was like on that particular day.
She was a member of the Otego Order of Eastern Star No. 377 and a member of the Otego United Methodist Church.
Doris is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Barbara and Arthur Goble of San Antonio, Texas, Joan and Wayne Packer of Oneonta, Calvin and Sue Haney of Wells Bridge, Donald and Donna Haney of Otego, David and Rebecca Haney of Davenport Center, Kathy and George Siemer of Otego, Kenneth and Wendy Haney of Otego and Ken and Franke DeBevoise of New Jersey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one nephew, James Chase of Binghamton.
She was predeceased by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Barbara Haney in 1966; one sister, Maude Chase; and two brothers, Arthur and Winfred Bennett.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating. Burial will follow in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until service time Friday.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Otego United Methodist Church, Church Street, Otego, NY 13825 in loving memory of Doris H. DeBevoise.

Elizabeth Hellinger
COLUMBUS, OHIO — Mrs. Elizabeth Ann (Bette) Hellinger, 74, of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday night, July 6, 2005, at Ohio State University Hospital.
Born May 20, 1931, in Cooperstown, she was a daughter of Albert and Mary (Viziak) Domion.
She married Alvin W. Hellinger on June 18, 1950, in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Richfield Springs. Mr. Hellinger died Oct. 30, 1969.
After 31 years of service, she retired from Ohio State University, where she was employed as a fiscal officer.
Bette is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lisa Kit Hellinger Matulich and her husband, Josef P. Matulich, of Worthington, Ohio, and Wendy Jane Hellinger of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Matthew Hellinger and his wife, Jackie, Rachel Wilkins Hollar and her husband, Paul, and Aidan Josef Matulich; and one sister, Mary Jane Domion.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one granddaughter, Alyssa Kit Hellinger Matulich, who died March 22, 1995, and one brother, Albert Domion Jr., who died Aug. 13, 1946.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Richfield Springs, with Fr. Terence Healy, sacramental minister, presiding. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Richfield Springs.
There will be no calling hours.

’Peggy’ Margaret Clark
GILBOA — "Peggy" Margaret Clark, 45, of Gilboa died at home Wednesday, July 13, 2005, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 3, 1959, the daughter of Elwood Yanson Clark and Ruth Evelyn Miller.
Peggy lived in Gilboa all of her life and attended Gilboa Central School.
Peggy was a longtime waitress, cook and bartender, working in several places in the area. Some of her favorites were the Ron De Voo, Hitching Post, John’s Tavern, Village Inn, Tastebuds and the Stamford Golf Course. At each place she worked, you were sure to get a good meal and drink and always plenty of smiles.
Peggy also loved going to yard sales and gambling. She was an avid collector of pigs and roosters. She loved children and her pets. Her dogs Daisy, Dukes and Buck were very dear to her, as were her birds, rabbits, roosters and chickens.
She is survived by a son, Travis Ray Kratochvil, "the light of her life," of Gilboa; her longtime companion Jeffrey Clark of Gilboa and his children, Jessica and Joshua Clark of Broadalbin; eight siblings, Linda and Harry Philips of Branchville, N.J., Paulette and Arthur Mattice of Gilboa; Helen and Ed Alexander of Davenport, Jean and Wardell Ballard of Seven Springs, N.C., Lori Young and John Ziemba of Gilboa, Elwood "Sparky" and Penny Clark of Grand Gorge, Valerie Clark and Ted Kilmer of Conesville and David and Ann Clark of Conesville; 26 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and nephews; one very special goddaughter, Destiny Bogdan; and a special niece, Kelly.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elwood and Ruth Clark, and her longtime love, Ray Kratochvil.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge with the Rev. Lawrence Major and Pastor Kristina Hansen co-officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grand Gorge.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad or the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Grand Gorge.

Mary K. Mead
ROXBURY— Mary K. Mead, 65, of Roxbury died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at her home.
She was born in Margaretville on Nov. 22, 1939, the daughter of John and Gladys (Mead) Roberts.
She married Gordon Mead on May 27, 1974, at the United Methodist Church in Roxbury.
A lifelong area resident, she was employed for several years at Kirkside Adult Home in Roxbury.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Mead of Roxbury; daughter, Lori Davie of Roxbury; brother, Edward Roberts of Fleischmanns; stepchildren, Mike Mead and Kathy Tuscaney; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, in the Methodist Cemetery, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Edward Muro
SCHENEVUS — Edward Muro, 90, formerly of Bethpage, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Schenevus on Wednesday, July 13, 2005.
He was born April 4, 1915, in the New York City area, the son of the late Severino and Michelina (Pepe) Muro.
Edward was married to Mary Hoffman in the late 1930s, and they started raising their family together.
He retired from the publications and securities department at the United Nations in New York City.
Ed is survived by five daughters, Carolyn Levenson of Davenport, Eleanor Williams of Mohawk, Patricia Berardino of Lindenhurst, Marilyn Clendaniel of Schenevus and Grace Morales of Old Bethpage; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, on Dec. 12, 1979; two brothers, Richard and Joseph; and a sister, Eleanor Trotter.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 18, at the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus. There will also be calling hours at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, 234 Broadway, Bethpage, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Bethpage Methodist Church, Bethpage.
Burial will follow the service in the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.
Edward will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, NY 12155.
