Shirley A. Risley

DAVENPORT CENTER — Shirley A. Risley, 74, of Davenport Center, formerly of Oneonta, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.

She was born June 30, 1931, in Oneonta, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Daley) Palmer.

Shirley married Gilbert "Ivan" Risley on Oct. 1, 1950, in Oneonta. Mr. Risley predeceased her Nov. 30, 2000.

Shirley was employed with the Oneonta School District as a food server at Valleyview School for 32 years.

She enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV and sitting and watching the wildlife. She had a love for nature. In her younger years she enjoyed playing bingo.

Shirley is survived by her three children and their spouses, Larry and Pamela Risley of Kingwood, Texas, Charles and Patricia Risley of Virginia Beach, Va., and Emily Pidgeon Harrington of Davenport Center; five grandchildren, Gilbert and Donald Pidgeon of Oneonta, Laura Lynn Risley of Kingwood, Texas, and Amanda and Bradley Schwirtlich of Corpus Christy, Texas; two great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Donna and Walt Currie of Oneonta; one brother and his wife, Marshall and Regina Palmer of Otego; one brother-in-law, Melvin Risley of Tannersville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sons-in-law, Paul Pidgeon and Stanley Harrington.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Calling hours will be held from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 in loving memory of Shirley A. Risley.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Thomas W. Bruzee

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Thomas Winston Bruzee, 26, of Philadelphia, Pa., and formerly of Otego, died suddenly July 18, 2005, in Philadelphia.

Born March 28, 1979, in Tucson, Ariz., he was the son of Cindy Kaye (Thomas) Strauss and Thaddeus Winston Bruzee.

Thomas attended Unatego Central School through 11th grade and then graduated from Franklin Central School, playing varsity basketball at both schools. He moved to Philadelphia five years ago, where he was attending Drexel College to study computers.

He managed a restaurant/bar in Philadelphia as well as worked at Ruby Tuesday’s.

He enjoyed building websites and working on computers. His friends would call him the computer whiz.

Tom is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cindy and Dan Strauss of Otego; his father, Thaddeus Bruzee of Arizona; fiancee, Melissa Lewis of Philadelphia; brother, Anthony Wahl of Otego; grandmothers, Jeanne Thomas of Otego and Charmaine Bruzee of Arizona; aunts and uncles, Helen, Joe and Bonnie, Russell, Victor and Lawrence Bruzee and Terry and Bonnie and Tim Thomas; stepgrandmother, Ilse Russell; and several cousins, stepaunts, stepuncles and stepcousins.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Ardo Keith Thomas and Mr. T. Bruzee, and his stepgrandfather, David Russell.

Tom was loved by many and had lots of friends in New York, Pennsylvania and everywhere he went.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.

Clara Murphy

PRATTSVILLE — Clara Murphy, 86, of Prattsville died Sunday, July 17, 2005, in St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.

She was born in Morris on Aug. 9, 1918, to Clyde Francis Southwick and Lula (nee Bixby) Southwick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1978, and a son, Francis (Red) Murphy in 2003. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son, David of Prattsville, and his companion, Molly Clark. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She operated Clara’s Beauty Shop on Main Street in Prattsville beginning in 1973.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Prattsville. She was the secretary/treasurer for the Prattsville Water District. She devoted her time to knitting and crocheting.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Prattsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elliott Oaks officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory to the Prattsville Rescue Squad or the Prattsville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Decker Funeral Home, Windham.

Edward J. Golon

CULPEPER, Va. — Edward James Golon, 73, of Culpeper, Va., died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Delhi to the late Carl Golon and Agnes Bolshehoff Golon.

Mr. Golon is survived by his five children, Lorraine Golon of Culpeper, Va., Camille Youngblood and her husband, Lewis, of Mechanicsville, Va., Sharon Golon of Culpeper, Va., Edward Golon and his wife, Lynn, of Floyd, Va., and Andrew Golon and his wife, Stephanie, of Albemarle, Va.; the mother of his children, Leota Golon; and their five grandchildren, Benjamin Blakey, Connor Doggett, Ava Youngblood, Miles Youngblood and Devon Golon.

Additional survivors include two sisters, Isabelle Ruth of Annandale, Va., and Edith Lachut of Herkimer; a devoted nephew, Anthony Ruth;, one nephew; and four nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Golon, and one sister, Helen Gradski.

A Christian wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, continued by the family receiving friends until 8 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, with Father Orlowski officiating.

Pallbearers named are Lewis Youngblood II, Ronald Doggett, Ben Blakey, Jimmy Butler Sr., Jimmy Butler Jr. and Tommy Lane.

Found and Sons Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Dwight L. Harrison

ONEONTA — Dwight Lyman Harrison, 85, of Mount Vision passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Mount Vision, the son of Lyman D. and Edna (Lane) Harrison.

Dwight attended the first five years of school at Bloods Mills and then Laurens Central School, graduating with the class of 1938.

Dwight was a lifelong resident of Mount Vision, where he operated the family dairy farm until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Dairylea Association, Cooperstown Extension, the Otego Valley Grange for more than 60 years, the Otsego Farm Bureau, where he was the past treasurer for two years, and former Town Assessor.

Dwight was a member of the Mount Vision United Methodist Church, in which he served as the Sunday School superintendent and church treasurer.

He is survived by his two nephews and their spouses, Dean and Kim Marble of Mount Vision and Dale and Jeanne Marble of Michigan; one great-nephew, Bradley Marble; four great-nieces, Karlyn, Caitlin, Amber and Brianna Marble; as well as several cousins.

Dwight was predeceased by his twin sister and her husband, Jennette S. and Sherman Marble.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, July 22, 2005, in the Mount Vision Cemetery, with the Rev. William R. Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Schenevus, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, NY 13796 or to the Mount Vision Fire Department, Mount Vision, NY 13810 in loving memory of Dwight Lyman Harrison.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Joseph A. Kelly

FLEISCHMANNS — Joseph A. Kelly, 57, of Fleischmanns passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his residence.

He was born July 4, 1948, in Margaretville, the son of Arthur Kelly and Desiree Todd.

Joe married MaryLou Helbig on July 10, 1987, in Arkville.

He graduated from Fleischmanns Central School. He was formerly employed at NYSE&Gas and at Margaretville Central School in their maintenance department and as a bus driver. He also worked as a maintenance associate of Roxbury Run Village.

Joe enjoyed trapping and hunting; he was an outdoorsman. He also liked building projects.

Joe is survived by his wife, MaryLou Kelly; his children, Michael Kelly, Patricia Ann Kelly Reed, Stacy Scudder and Tom Lemonedes; his father, Arthur Kelly; his grandchildren, Matthew Benecke, Paul and Darian Scudder, Ashley Eignor, Rachel and Jessica Soules, Brandon and Shane Lane and Jasmine Reed; one brother, Gene, and sister-in-law, Patty Kelly, and their children, Melissa, Emily and Christine Kelly. Also, he is survived by Linda Swafford, his former wife and mother of Patricia and Michael Kelly.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the Bedell Church, Little Red Kill Road, Fleischmanns, with the Rev. Jeffrey Walsh officiating.

Committal services will be at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in memory of Joseph Kelly may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Edna L. Sutton

STAMFORD — Edna "Louise" Sutton, 76, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born May 18, 1929, in Grand Gorge, the daughter of Elwood and Edna (Yanson) Clark.

A longtime resident of Stamford, Louise was employed at Stamford Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She also worked at Speedling Florist in Stamford as a floral designer.

She was active in the Stamford fire department and emergency squad; she took great pleasure in helping others.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, cookouts, animals, watching TV and listening to country music.

Louise is survived by her two sons, Richard L. Sutton and wife Rosanne of Stamford and Mark Sutton and wife Roxanne of West Monroe; and her daughter, Holly Hewitt and husband John of Bloomville. Also, surviving are five grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert, Richie, Becky and Renne; three sisters, Peg Baily, Marion McGrath and Vicky Clark; one brother, Richard Clark; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her daughter, April Marie; a son, David Brian; her mother; father; one sister; and two brothers.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford. Graveside services will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Grand Gorge.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Charles Stefanelli

BOVINA CENTER — Charles P. "Charlie" Stefanelli, 56, of Bovina Center passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, July 20, 2005, in Walton.

The son of Philip C. and Carmela (Conti) Stefanelli, he was born Dec. 7, 1948, in Brooklyn, where he grew up. He was a 1966 graduate of Fort Hamilton High School and a football quarterback with the New York Jets during the 1972 season.

He married Elaine D. McNaughton on Aug. 29, 1982, in Delhi.

Charlie owned his property in Bovina for the past 30 years and eventually built his home and moved here permanently in 1996.

While living in Brooklyn, he was employed in the construction of custom elongated limousines and, for the past eight years, had been an automotive technician at Breakey Motors Inc., Walton.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Elaine; a daughter, Tracey; and a son, Jesse Stefanelli, all at home; his mother, Carmela Stefanelli; and sister, Mary Acquista, both of Old Bridge, N.J.; his mother-in-law, Dolores McNaughton of Staten Island; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 23, when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. Deborah Fleming, CLP, will officiate, and burial will be private.

Memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753 will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
