Wilda Shackelton

OTEGO — Wilda T. Shackelton, 89, of Otego passed away after a short illness July 21, 2005, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Walton to George B. and Elizabeth Forrest Tweedie.

She resided on the Fish Hollow family farm for the first 86 years of her life.

Wilda was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Walton. She was an alumnus of Walton Central School and the State University College at Oneonta. She was a member of the Walton Teachers’ Association and the state/national affiliate, NYSUTA/NEA.

Mrs. Shackelton was a teacher for 31 years. Twenty-one of those years were in the Walton Central School District.

In 1946, she married Walter Shackelton. He predeceased her Dec. 1, 1986.

Wilda Shackelton is survived by three sons and two daughters, all of whom are in the teaching profession: George of Otego, John in West Oneonta, Tim of Cobleskill, and Maxine and Marlene of Covington, Tenn. In addition, there are eight grandchildren who she adored.

Wilda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the matriarch of her family who was totally dedicated to assuring that her sons, daughters and grandchildren would become all they were capable of being. Her leadership, support and guidance were perpetual and unwavering.

Wilda was an avid horseshoe pitcher and a terrific competitor. She will be missed dearly, but we know that the world is a better place because she lived.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets in Walton, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial following in the Walton Cemetery.

Aniela Olechowski

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Aniela Olechowski, 85, of East Rutherford, N.J., passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, at home.

Aniela was born July 28, 1919, in Wola-Zarczycka, Poland, the daughter of Walter and Agnes Banas.

She married Frank Olechowski in June 1941 in Wola-Zarczycka.

She came to the United States in September 1962.

She was a devoted communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wallington, N.J. She worked as a seamstress from 1965 until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Stanley and Margaret Olechowski of Otego, Mary and Joe Kuznicki of East Rutherford, N.J., Sophie and Ed Bogdan of Wallington, N.J., Joe and Stasia Olechowski of Elmwood Park, N.J., and John and Donna Olechowski of Garfield, N.J.; 11 grandchildren, Ted and Rachel Olechowski of Otego, Andy and Mary Olechowski of Rochester, Stacey and Tod Curly of Albany, Joe and Cheryl Bogdan of Wallington, N.J., Margaret and Kevin Robertson of San Diego, Calif., Stanley and Wendy Kuznicki of Wallington, N.J., Ed Kuznicki of Wallington, N.J., Robert and Toni Olechowski of Paramus, N.J., Tracy and Donnie Ingrasselino of Suffern, Dorothy and Jason Cosimano of Oakland, N.J., and Christopher Olechowski of Garfield, N.J.; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Olechowski, who passed away Oct. 2, 1999.

Friends may call at the Kamienski Funeral Home, 106 Locust Ave., Wallington, N.J., at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 23. The family will be in attendance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wallington, N.J., with the Very Rev. Canon Felix R. Marciniak officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Lodi, N.J.

Ethel M. McLear

MARGARETVILLE — Ethel Mildred (Van Houdt) McLear, 90, died at her home in Margaretville on Friday, July 22, 2005.

She was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Mount Vernon, daughter of Albert H. and Anna (Jasper) Van Houdt.

Ethel married William C. McLear on Aug. 23, 1936, in Mount Vernon. He died July 13, 1975. She was a housewife and lived in Yonkers before moving to Margaretville.

She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, June (Tripodi) Angiolelli and husband Gerald; sons, James McLear and wife Sharon and John McLear; daughter-in-law Jean, the wife of her son Robert McLear, who died Aug. 31, 2000; nephews, Bill Hemingway of Colorado and Richard Van Houdt of New Hampshire; and nieces Karen Hickton of Massachusetts and Denise Ashworth of Connecticut. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandnephews and grandnieces.

She was the sister of the late Rheinhardt Van Houdt, Arthur Van Houdt and Lucia (Hemingway) Jodry.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, from the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the funeral home.

Committal will take place in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale.

Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Ethel M. McLear.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Jeanne B. Butts

Johnson CITY — Jeanne B. Butts, 84, formerly of Oneonta, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

She was born June 6, 1921, in Oneonta, the daughter of James K. and Susan (Palmer) Bradt.

She married LaVerne P. (Buddy) Butts Jr. on July 24, 1943, in Oneonta. He predeceased her Feb. 18, 1986.

Mrs. Butts was the vice president of L.P. Butts, Inc. in Oneonta.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Oneonta Country Club and a volunteer for Hospice.

She is survived by her daughter, Toni B. Christensen of Laurens; her son, LaVerne P. (Skip) Butts III and his wife, Brooke, of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren, Christian and Nicole Christensen of New York City, Heath and Susan Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Allison and Paul Nelson of Columbia, S.C., Dr. Ryan and Blythe Butts of Houston, and Travis Butts of Atlanta.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Butts will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Patricia Raube-Wilson, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY or to the American Red Cross, Otsego County Fund, 493 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Richard Thompson

EAST WORCESTER — Richard A. Thompson, 60, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 23, 2005.

He was born Jan. 23, 1945, the son of Walter F. Thompson Sr. and Hazel (Pangburn) Thompson.

Richard was a carpenter with the Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters Local 370.

He spent most of his leisure time hunting, fishing or working on projects around the house.

Richard was very artistic in many ways, including painting, drawing, woodworking and building things with his hands.

Richard is survived by his loving companion of four years, Angeline Cooper, and her son, Derrick; two daughters, Renae and Amanda; three grandchildren, Casey, Cody and Sydney; three brothers, Walter Jr., Donald and Glen; three sisters, Mae Wagnor, Cathaline Ploss and Trudy Bender; several nieces, nephews, cousins and one great-aunt, Sydney Pangburn.

Richard was predeceased by three brothers, Vincent, William and Douglas.

There will be a private service at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Richard to the East Worcester First Responders, PO Box 781, East Worcester, NY 12064.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Oscar K. Teachout

LAKELAND, Fla. — Oscar Karl Teachout, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Fla.

He was born July 13, 1920, in Schenectady and was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II.

Mr. Teachout was a dairy farmer in the town of Maryland from 1947 to 1973, and was a member of the Schenevus United Methodist Church. He moved to Florida when he retired.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Jean Austin Teachout; a sister, Vinetta Domion; and two brothers, George and Arthur Teachout.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Strickland of Lakeland, Fla.; three sons, William Teachout of North Fort Myers, Fla., James Teachout of Lakeland, Fla., and Jeffrey Teachout of El Dorado, Kan.; two brothers, Richard Teachout of Richfield Springs and Orville Teachout of Stony Creek; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place in the Maryland Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Local arrangements are with the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.

Stephanie Herrmann

ROXBURY — Stephanie Herrmann, 91, of Roxbury passed away Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville, where she had resided since November 1999.

Stephanie was born March 18, 1914, in Mahanoy, Pa., the daughter of Casimir Penalis and Teckla Wolkowicz.

She married Frederick Herrmann on April 4, 1959, in Roxbury. He predeceased her June 13, 1994.

Stephanie worked for the Connecticut hospital system as supervisor in the housekeeping department. She made her home in Roxbury before going to Mountainside.

Stephanie is survived by one sister, Genevieve Safara; one nephew, Frank Safara; and one stepson, Frederick Herrmann.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Margaretville, with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt as celebrant.

Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery in Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.

Harold and Agnes (Bond) Whiteman

COVINA, Calif. — Harold and Agnes (Bond) Whiteman, formerly of Westford, passed away peacefully at their California home in 2004.

There will be a committal service for Harold and Agnes at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2005, in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneida Street, Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Antoinette DePolo

WORCESTER — Antoinette DePolo, 87, passed away Monday, July 11, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Dobbs Ferry, the daughter of John and Angelina (Cavallo) Bonadies.

She married Joseph DePolo. He predeceased her Aug. 29, 1975.

Antoinette was a lifelong resident of the state of New York, living in Otsego County for more than 18 years.

The most important thing in her life was her family. One of Antoinette’s favorite things to do was dining out with her family and friends.

She is survived by two brothers, Alphonse and his wife, Trishia Bonadies, of South Carolina, and Pat Bonadies of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two former sisters-in-law, Isabelle Jenson of Charlotteville and Rosemary Ballew of Indiana.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Rocco and Lewis, and three sisters, Florence, Genevieve Bucci and Jane Maxmier.

A graveside service will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Antoinette to the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, PO Box 164, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
